I feel like (in my opinion) a lot of people misinterpret why Lucas was sad after seeing his friends celebrate winning the DnD campaign.

I don't think he was sad because his friends ditched his game to play DnD, because he already knew they weren't at the game. He saw that there was an empty spot for them.

And, yes, that could've him being hurt by it, but the way he reacts was more a sense of realisation.

I think this is the moment he realises that he isn't happy being popular. That night he finally got what he wanted. He wanted to have his moment, to be part of the team, to feel like a winner. He finally reached "popularity" and yet he isn't happy. Or – he isn't as happy as he would've been winning the campaign with his friends.

Like we see him try to put on a smile when Patrick comes to get him for the party, but it doesn't stick. He isn't happy. This isn't what he wants.

And this is literally confirmed in his monologue to Jason. It's the moment Lucas accepts that he's okay with being a "freak." He's okay with who he is and he doesn't have to change.

This show is an anthem for being different. For accepting who you are. And that's what Lucas's story is.

20. What-ifs/Alternate Timelines

Ohoho, I see you've chosen THE question for him.

Timeline Class A - Pol doesn't die. There are a few options to make that true--he could have been captured alongside Brook and Casca, or escaped with Lifa and Ari, or Weylon's betrayal could have never happened at all.

If he was added to the captured squad, they all probably would have been able to escape much sooner. Neither Brook nor Casca could ever have been trusted by the Flame Legion enough to gain an easier opportunity to escape, even if they'd been inclined to try (Casca they see as dangerous but maybe useful in a...not-so-great way; Brook they see as brainwashed and foolish, so they could try to play that role, but they have enough pride that playing that role would have been hard). Pol would have been able to gain their trust more easily and without (as many, because to be sure there are still plenty) personal reasons to have trouble with it. All three of them make it out in much sooner than the three-ish years Brook and Casca remain imprisoned in the main canon, and B&C aren't separated for long. There's the potential that Weylon dies in this canon, if he gets in the way of their escape. They're left with a warband of either four (Ari, Brook, Casca, Pol) or five (add Lifa), depending on several conversations after everything goes down.

If he escaped with Lifa and Ari, the three of them would have stuck together, and they would have been way more persistent about rescuing Brook and Casca, as three charr against the Flame Legion is still terrible odds but three charr against the High Legion brass is slightly better. They might have been able to argue for backup, and if they couldn't, they would have gone alone. The five of them might have left the Legions after that and done their own thing, or joined an order, or stayed and been promoted--lots of options here.

If Weylon didn't betray them at all, I think the whole warband would eventually have left the Legions, which would have been a Big Deal. They would have joined the Vigil (no Whispers for Ari here), and they'd all follow the main storyline a lot more closely. Still a warband, and a lot stronger for it.

Timeline Class B - Pol dies and chooses, when Minei offers it, not to come back--or chooses to move on before he even meets her.Instead of necessarily shifting huge events around (as of right now, at least, since I'm not setting anything super hard in stone years after EoD yet), it's mostly defined by a lack. Minei doesn't meet someone who turns out to be one of the best friends she's ever had, and Pol doesn't either. He doesn't meet and fall for Korain (which is a name I've never mentioned on here before, they're new :3); he doesn't meet Chieko and eventually find a place in her triage squad of misfit friends... It's peace, but it's a lost future.

16. Dark secrets/’skeletons in the closet’

A lot of the details around him being alive again. Not necessarily dark as in "he did something wrong" (though there's probably people who follow the code of necromancy closely who'd disagree and say he's doing something wrong by existing), but more as in "the details here could get me and my friend hurt and/or killed so no way in hell am I sharing, and also it's none of your business".

13. What gets them flustered

Pol has trouble believing people are sincerely flirting with him. It's not so much a self-esteem thing (though it's a little of that as well) but more that he heard so much, often very bad flirting between his 'bandmates growing up. He believes it's either in jest or directed at someone else. Being specifically persistent with him to the point that he believes it's sincere will definitely fluster him :)
