hi! i was reading your pinned post and it made me think - what color(s) are each of the aa main characters' theme songs! :0
Synesthesia question yippee!!!!! Here are all main character themes from the games I’ve played <3 so far I’ve done AA1 through AA4 as well as both Investigations games~
Phoenix Wright (Objection! 2001): G minor—dark green
Phoenix Wright (Objection! 2002): F minor—gray-blue
Phoenix Wright (Objection! 2004): D minor—sea green
Maya Fey (Turnabout Sisters 2001/2002): A♭ major—purple (roughly the same shade as her haori <3)
Miles Edgeworth (Great Revival): F minor—gray-blue
Franziska von Karma (Great Revival): G minor—dark green (though it’s worth noting that the Great Revival themes despite being in minor use a lot of borrowed harmonies from the major mode that end up brightening the overall color a little)
Dick Gumshoe (It’s Detective Gumshoe/I can do it when it counts, pal!): C minor—sea blue
Ema Skye (Turnabout Sisters 2005): C major—yellow
Ema Skye (Scientific Detective): G major—pink
Pearl Fey (Pearly Questioning): F major—cerulean
Godot (The Fragrance of Black Coffee): D major—green
Larry Butz (When Something Smells, It’s Usually Me): G mixolydian—yellow (but some sections sound blue due to borrowed flat harmonies)
Apollo Justice (Objection! 2007): G# minor—dark magenta
Trucy Wright (Child of Magic): D major—green
Klavier Gavin (Guilty Love): E♭ major—royal blue
Kay Faraday (The Great Truth Burglar): A minor—light gray
Shi-Long Lang (Speak Up, Pup!): E minor—gold
Raymond Shields (Joking Motive): A minor—light gray (with additional analysis available here if you’re interested :3)
Justine Courtney (Goddess of Law): F minor—gray-blue
Gregory Edgeworth (A Defense Attorney’s Knowledge): C major -> C minor—yellow -> sea blue
Sebastian Debeste (First-Class Reasoning): C major -> F major -> G major—yellow -> cerulean -> pink
Sebastian Debeste (A First-Class Farewell): G minor—dark green
You'll notice that not all colors necessarily match the character's color schemes. This is because while sometimes a character design can influence my synesthetic experiences (which is a whole other conversation in and of itself), they are still primarily based on the key of the theme itself—so a character theme in C major, for example, will always sound yellow regardless of which character it's meant to represent. This is both a blessing and a curse as sometimes the synesthetic color/mood will match a character perfectly whereas other times it will be completely off the mark. But it is still a very fun thing regardless—thank you for the ask!

We need more friends who will legit listen to anything because with how varied our system is we collectively have the capacity to enjoy almost *any* music genre and subgenre out there, but we don’t know anyone else like that, even out of our plural friends, so we don’t really have anyone we can talk about music with in a way that doesn’t feel limited.

Love funky time signature shit. Listenin to Good Day by Tally Hall n realized my feet were off step but I was certain I didn't mess up my step off or anything so I started counting n realized that the time signature was changing to 5/4 at the end of each phrase, but more in the feel of 4/4 with an extra beat after rather than full 5/4. So on the following measure I was on the right foot rather than the left on the downbeat. Funky shit

Saint Pepsi, you say 👀
I had a huge future funk phase and Saint Pepsi was one of my faves, it's wild seeing another person who likes/liked them in the wild
Oh yeah the lighting in here sucks right now but like
Tumblr media
I'm not even a record kind of guy (I prefer cassette tapes) but this was the last copy in the warehouse and the man himself said he would be honored to sign it if I brought it to a show/con/whatever someday. I'm gonna make him make good on that promise someday, but people just don't do tours here, OTL
Also for like 3 years or something my username on Flight Rising was SaintPepsi so like. lol. yeah. I only changed it because I felt bad to park myself on someone else's handle like that

Brief pause to the incoming Harlivy spam but I had the Revue Starlight soundtrack on while travelling and forget how much I love Hokori to Ogori. That rise at 4:25-ish that leaps even higher instead of going for a more 'expected' downturn at the end is such musical beauty exemplifying the overwhelming rise that IS Pride and Arrogance just... -chef's kiss- Perfection.

yknow what really gets me? the fact that we all seem to think that robin doesn’t enjoy jock things. while she’s canonically seen enjoying and cheering at the basketball game in s4 and more importantly, SHE PLAYS SOCCER!!!! she literally says so in s3?!!!! don’t come at me with your “robin is a music nerd ONLY” because she’s so much more than that!! and we should explore soccer player robin in fics bc i’m pretty sure whoever you ship her with will have an aneurysm watching her play soccer

hi im also a raymond shields lover [you know this its no surprise] and i am also SOOO autistic about music so i totally ripped apart his theme to analyze it and i wanna hear YOUR THOUGHTS PLEAAAASEEE I NEED SOMEONE TO BE INSANE WITH
HELL YEAH an excuse to geek out about Joking Motive? You better believe I'm taking it
youtube
Ok so right off the bat—THE FIRST FOUR NOTES. The first SEVEN notes, even—you can hear Miles’ Great Revival motif, plain as day. Close listeners will recognize that this iconic ascending minor third and whole step pattern can be heard all over the Investigations soundtrack, everywhere from the cross-examination and objection themes to the character themes—including but not limited to Kay, Lang, and in this case, Ray (there’s even an inverted version in Gregory’s theme that uses a descending half step and major third instead!). What’s really interesting is the use of this motif sort of contradicts Ray’s attitude toward Miles when we first hear the track—it’s played during his initial introduction when he still has that grudge towards him. It’s not NECESSARILY out of place considering even Quercus Alba’s theme uses the motif, but it’s a pretty strong musical foreshadowing that he could potentially be swayed over to Miles’ side, which is indeed followed through on later.
As for the main body of the track itself, it’s pretty distinctly blues-y, making gratuitous use of standard blues chord progressions (Am7 -> D7 and whatnot) and pentatonic melodies ornamented by that sweet sweet flat 5 that I have now dubbed “the Ray Note” because the man has melted my brain (what else is new). One thing worth noting that’s a bit atypical of the genre, however, is the Fmaj7 chord used a couple of times throughout (in Roman numeral notation it would be the VI chord); the first instance of it is about 44 seconds into the linked video for reference. This, in my opinion, is a really clever way of hiding emotional nuance underneath the otherwise upbeat instrumentation and playful melody—the VI chord sounds a bit more melancholic in comparison to everything surrounding it and hints that despite his jokester persona, Ray might not actually be as cheerful as he seems.
And now my favorite part—the synesthesia of it all. Idk if you’ve read my pinned post or not but basically the key of a song has certain colors, moods, scenery, etc. associated with it in my brain and it’s been a part of my life since even before I had any sort of musical training. Joking Motive is in A minor—which is represented by the color gray and its associated moods are those of emptiness and yearning (it’s a functional opposite to E flat minor which is pitch black and represents the crushing weight of despair). And I mean. Considering Ray’s whole character revolves around the void left in his life after Gregory’s death and how he desperately tries to fill it by doing everything he can to bring Miles back to his side? I’d say the key choice fits pretty well. If Capcom REALLY wanted to steal my heart away and make me even MORE smitten than I already am they could have put it just a half step higher in B flat minor (my favorite key of all time. Beautiful midnight blue queen I love her so much) but their key choice reflects him too perfectly so I’m willing to overlook it.
And that’s about it, really! I hope you enjoyed reading my insights—Joking Motive is one of my favorite tracks so I'm glad we can be autistic about it together <3

Would Sokka, Suki and Zuko form a band? And would they call it boiling rock (but Zuko still gets on stage with like... a grand piano or a violin or smth to make it more emo) ?
zuko plays the tsungi horn, sokka plays …
Tumblr media
this thing . and suki probably plays the pipa.
sokka writes the lyrics (they just flow out of him, he has a gift!), zuko edits the lyrics to be more poetical by employing more allusions and using more symbolic language, and suki sings (she’s the only one who can sing while she plays, but also, i genuinely doubt zuko or sokka would have nice singing voices anyway).
the idea of them calling their band the boiling rock is so funny it’s like the ultimate fuck you.
and most importantly, iroh gets to see his dream of zuko playing the tsungi horn during music night finally realized.

It's amusing to me how much of a joyless hag Avery is. Like she's unable to enjoy anything (movies, games, music etc) except being the best at work and the wealth and power that comes with it. Even when she pursues someone the only thing that she enjoys is the power she has over them to the point where her lust is directly connected to how much she can control them (when she tells PC to strip and does nothing else because just knowing she can debase someone like that is enough to get her going). What a fascinating specimen...

finally set aside the time to thoroughly listen to the new red vox album. god it's kickass and makes Visions even better in retrospect. big fan of the callbacks to previous works like the return of New York Pigeons Doing Pigeon Things and the Blood Bagel reference ("lies aren't fatal unless they're the four letter kind" at the end of "Almost a Stranger").
ik it probably wasn't the intention, but the way vin's voice was processed makes me feel so nostalgic for mid-2000s boy-band vocals on mall pop. I haven't sung at length in a while, and my vocal range isn't a 1:1 match with vinny's – but damn, it's so difficult to resist singing along. "Forgetter" – especially its lyrics – felt kinda "meh" to me at first, but the more I listen to it, the more it grows on me.
fave song's a tie between "Eminence" for that unbelievable guitar (thank you chuck holy shit) and "Almost a Stranger" for its buttery-smooth, downright hypnotic vocals; fave video's gotta be "Playing by the Rules." album good! I get why people are Like That about bands now

Hey sillies !!!
Currently, I've joined the hunt for a lost song called "everyone knows that" or "ulterior motives" (yes, I'm a little bit of a nerd)
For a bit of context: in 2021, a user named Carl92 found an old audio file on his computer dating back to 1999, he had faint memories of this song but didn't fully recognising it, claiming it must have been from when he was learning to sample songs, he remembered it being on a cassette tape he had, but found it on a dvd file (which meant he could've burnt the song into the dvd, which could explain its low quality). He uploaded a 17 second snippet of it to whatszatsong.com. it was soon found unidentifiable and called "lost media"
Ever since 2021 there have been communities following different leads and bebunking them to find the origins of this song as well as the full song !! The video will be below this. If anyone wants to join the search or has any possible leads, dm me or send me an ask !!! The snippet of the song will be in a video below this
thanks sillies !!
