( unfortunately for them. winter in books or movies is when people start turning on each other , when people go missing or die. winter is the turning point in stories especially when survival is a factor. ) ; his words cause a spike in her heartbeat , teenager immediately tensing up & wanting to move closer to travis. he was big , tough , he could protect her if he had too & she , as little as she was , would try her best in return. ❛ no ! ❜ comes hushed response in case whatever rattles light snow covered branches could hear them. something snaps & shauna jumps, moving to grasp onto travis’s arm. ❛ what the fuck is that ?! ❜ spoken in a panicked tone, brows pulling together. ❛ travis , i don’t like this ! ❜ it could be one of three things: food , something that can kill them , or some monster that’s been watching them.

it’s not true that shauna loves jackie more than callie, but only because she loves them one in the same. in different ways, of course, but the root of the love is the same.
she can’t love callie without loving jackie, without loving all the pieces of her she killed and devoured, and she can’t love jackie without loving callie, her mirror image, the child that should have belonged to her from the life she stole

okay for the 4 people who care about this crossover, here's the yj muses thrown into a tvdu world. this will probably also serve as the generic supernatural verse (well, supernatural beyond whatever woo woo shit is going on in canon).
lottie matthews - french quarter witch whose greatest strength/power lies in the gift of prophecy and visions. these are rarely straightforward or easy to interpret and she's gotten it wrong more than she's gotten it right. however, she thinks they were given to her for a reason and believes in trying to use it to help others, even if she stumbles a bit along the way.
van palmer - untriggered werewolf who was attacked by another pack when she was 17, which left her with facial scars and a deep, yet irrational fear of her own wolf. she knows it's likely only a matter of time before she triggers the curse and is trying to grapple with the reality that she can never escape the thing she fears most.
taissa turner - vampire who was turned in the 60s, at the height of the civil rights era. taissa is old enough to understand the patterns of history repeating itself, but still young enough that she is caught in her own hubris of trying to enjoy all the perks of immortality without any of the consequences.
shauna shipman - werewolf who triggered her curse at 18 and never looked back at the sleepy suburban life she left behind. the wolf brought a lot of clarity to shauna, who never understood where the depths of her temper and rage would stem from, and she finds herself discovering a new way of life by embracing the wolf.
natalie scatorccio - vampire turned in 1996 when a night of partying turned into an overdose with vampire blood in her system. nat is still very young when it comes to being a vampire, and she has a tendency to overindulge in feeding. not to the level of a ripper status, but enough that she can cause a few heads to turn if she's not careful about covering her tracks.

Meant to make this post the other day but shauna meant it when she said she'd never have another friend like jackie, and like everything else regarding jackie, she took this to the extreme. Her only real connection as an adult is to jeff, and even that is tenuous at best.
She surrounded her home and life with jackie, and that is all she's ever done. She doesn't make friends with anyone else. She doesn't speak to the people she would have considered friends anymore. She has no desire to try to connect with anyone because none of them will be jackie and none of them will understand her.
She also resents this life. She's bored. She's miserable. She wants nothing to do with the small town stay at home mom life that she leads. She resents her kid and her husband for forcing her into this role, but she at least still loves them. She hates all the other PTA and HOA moms. She resents them because she isn't like them, and they look at her differently, and she thinks they're boring and annoying and stupid. She'll make polite small talk when needed, but she loathes them. They remind her of everything she hates about her life and herself. She doesn't get together with callies friends moms. She avoids them. She does not want anything to do with them.

💌 AUGUST { a jackieshauna modern au!}
warnings: none (mentions of kissing)
on their anniversary, jackie and shauna both have suprises planned for each other.
Jackie wakes with sunlight painting her and Shauna’s shared bedroom a bright shade of yellow. Her eyes, still half closed, blindly search around the bed for shauna with no avail. Her brows furrow in confusion, Shauna is never up this early. She sits up with a sigh, checking the time, 8:30. She picks up her (Shauna’s) shirt off the floor and pulls it over her head, tousling her hair in the process. She doesn’t care, neither does Shauna. A clanging of pots and pans in the kitchen grabs her attention as she reaches for the doorknob.
“Shauna?” Jackie questions, walking down the hall and turning the corner, leading into the kitchen.
“Shit! Shit!” Shauna spins around, dropping a pan or two in the process.
“Jesus, Jackie. I thought you were still asleep, scared the shit out of me.”
Shauna momentarily walks away from the stove quickly wrapping her arms around Jackie and pressing a kiss to the top of her head. Jackie smiles up at her, giggling at the mess Shauna had made of the kitchen.
“What’s so funny down there?” Shauna questions, tickling Jackie’s sides, causing her to burst out with laughter.
“Oh you know, just your amazing cooking skills at work.” Jackie speaks with a smirk, taking a seat on the island to watch Shauna hard at work.
“Yeah, I bet this is real funny to you, Taylor. I just wanted to do something nice- you know, for our anniversary and everything.” Shauna speaks, turning away, knowing Jackie would already have that smile of hers plastered on her dace.
“Shauna.” Jackie speaks through soft laughter. She jumps down from her spot on the counter to wrap her arms around Shauna’s neck.
“You know you don’t have to keep kissing my ass, right? We’re already dating, Shipman.” Jackie speaks, before pressing a chaste kiss to Shauna’s lips.
“Hey, for your information, I will always be here to kiss your ass. And secondly, you’re not going anywhere.”
Shauna laughs as Jackie tries to pull away, hauling her into her arms. Jackie makes quick work of sliding out of Shauna’s hold and runs toward the couch. Shauna wastes no time chasing after her, tackling her as they both fall against the soft cushions of the couch.
“Oh, now you’ve done it.” Shauna muses, leaning down to pepper kisses all over Jackie’s face.
Jackie laughs, that laugh-god, and Shauna swears her heart skips a beat. It may just be her favorite sound in the world. Shauna’s head spins, and for a moment, she feels like she’s dreaming. She forgets that she’s really here, with the one girl that she’s dreamed about for her entire life. She forgets that she really gets to wake up next to her Jackie every single day.
“You alright, Shipman? Did I lose you?” Jackie questions, pulling away from a kiss as she leans on her elbow.
“I’m good, babe.” Shauna smiles, lost in Jackie’s eyes that stare her down.
“I should probably get back to the food.” Shauna sighs, running a hand through her hair. Jackie hums a response before settling into Shauna’s lap.
“I think it can wait.” Jackie smiles, devious as ever.

Jackie had decidedly set her mind on having a sunset picnic with Shauna for their anniversary. She had went out and bought everything they needed one morning while Shauna slept in a few days before. Jackie was putting together the basket, along with gathering a few blankets as Shauna was getting ready. She had thrown on a crewneck that had been stolen by Jackie time and time again. Shauna leaned against my the doorframe as she watched Jackie work.
“You ready, baby?” Shauna speaks as her frame stands over Jackie’s.
“Yeah, you got everything?” Jackie asks, throwing a blanket over her shoulder and picking up the basket.
“Of course.” Shauna speaks, holding up the old polaroid camera Van had gifted her for her birthday the year before.
Shauna had picked up the habit of taking pictures of Jackie around the house whenever she could. It quickly filled up the walls of their bedroom, and even though she’d deny it, Jackie loved it. The drive over the lake consisted of Jackie playing all the old cd’s Shauna kept stored in the car.
As they arrived, the scene in front of them looked like it came straight from a Jane Austen book. The sunset glittered across the clear blue waters of the lake. Orange and pink skies reflected in front of them, as they both lay on the plush fabric of one of the many blankets Jackie brought with them.
“It’s perfect.” Jackie spoke, breaking the comfortable silence that hung in the air around them.
“I um, I have something for you.” Shauna speaks, reaching into the bottom of the bag she had brought with them.
“What? I thought we said no gifts! I would’ve got you something.” Jackie speaks, nudging Shauna’s shoulder.
“No, no, you know I don’t need anything except you being here with me.” Shauna spoke, back turned away from Jackie to hide the gift.
“Close your eyes.” Shauna spoke, amusement lacing her tone.
“Seriously? Are you proposing to me, Shipman? Because if you are, I would’ve worn something a lot cuter.” Jackie spoke, covering her eyes as Shauna laughed at her response.
“Okay, you can open your eyes now.” Shauna spoke, holding a long black box in her hands.
“Shauna.” Jackie spoke, her eyes boring into Shauna’s as she smiled so hard her cheeks began to hurt.
She carefully opened the box, revealing a gold locket, much like the heart necklace she had given Shauna many years ago. She opened the locket, and her heart skipped a beat. A picture of the both of them at the beach during one of their many weekend trips on one side, and a quote on the other. “To live for the hope of it all.” Jackie surged forward and quickly wrapped her arms around Shauna.
“I love it, so much.” She spoke into the fabric of Shauna’s sweater.
“Yeah, well I figured you deserve a new one since I stole yours.” Shauna responded, wrapping her arms around Jackie’s waist.
Shauna wrapped the blanket around both of them, tightening her hold on Jackie. The sky had began to darken, turning the soft pink into a darker shade of purple. Shauna smiled down at Jackie, who began to cuddle impossibly closer to her.
“I love you.” Shauna spoke, brushing strands of hair away from Jackie’s face, looking into her eyes.
“I love you too, Shipman.” Jackie responded, closing her eyes for a moment.
It would be enough for them. To live for the hope of it all.

That test had been a lot harder than she thought. But one B on her report card couldn't hurt right? Letting out a sigh of anguish, Shauna slammed the door shut on her locker and zipped up her backpack. Jackie had left school early with Jeff, and without anyone to talk to, she decided that a milkshake was in order for at least trying her best.
Slipping out with the rest of the crowd that was headed home for the weekend, Shauna made her way down the street and up a few blocks to the local Dairy Queen. She made it inside, just before the afternoon crowd and got in line with her eyes focused on the menu trying to decide what flavor Blizzard she was going to treat herself to today.
