do you think van deliberately chose to train as a goalie because it's the one position on the team that can't easily be replaced? the one that has to be steady under pressure moreso than the rest of the team? the reliable one? do you think van internalized the feelings she had as a kid of trying to be the one to take care of everyone else while no one took care of her, and she adapted it to her intensity on the field? do you think she beat herself up unnecessarily when she let goals in or missed a penalty kick? do you think she dreamed about being on the field at nationals, and being the one to make the game winning save? do you think about van palmer??!?

Part of opening a space like the community meant that those they welcomed often came with their own baggage. Lottie is the last person to judge others based on their past, but some days were harder than others. They already had to contend with accusations from (mostly) well-meaning friends and family who worried at their community was something more malicious than it was. But it was the ones who sought to control the people who come to her for help, that truly sparks something fierce in Lottie. Like a kindred spirit calling out for all the times she was never protected as a child.
Leading the community also meant that everyone's safety was one of her top priorities. And while she had noticed Elle disappearing in the wake of the event, Lottie was too focused on making sure the rest of the compound was settled enough for the evening. Even the comment she had made while entering the office had been directed towards what had transpired outside, not the little box in her wife's hand. But when she saw it, and heard Elle's excuses, Lottie pulled herself back into leader mode, but with the sort of gentleness that only few had the privilege to witness.
"I didn't mean you, darling," Lottie murmured as she crossed the office to stand before Elle. "You said you weren't going to, and I believe you." Cupping the woman's face in both palms, she searched her face for the subtle signs of distress she'd come to familiarize herself with over the years. "Talk to me?"

"Not a new concept for me," Elle murmured under her breath, still a little shaken.
One of the newer members had mentioned an abusive boyfriend, but having him track her down all the way here, somehow getting into the compound and making a scene was unexpected.
It wasn't so much that this was unfamiliar to her.
Perhaps that was the problem. The yelling, the manipulation, the gaslighting. She had been frozen in place as it happened, as though it was directed at her. Elle only snapped out of it when she saw red. The attempt to remove the man from the premises had ended up in a scuffle, resulting in a split lip and a bloody nose.
When everything was over, and the injured acolytes had been taken care of, Eleanor disappeared into her office, looking through her drawers. She held the little brass pill box in her hand, but almost dropped it when she heard Charlotte's voice behind her.
"I...wasn't going to... I mean..." She took a deep breath and placed the box back into the drawer and closed it. "I'm just a little... jittery."

simone abara - still very much a human who gets pulled into the supernatural world when her wife of 15 years turns out to be, well, supernatural, and her son starts showing his own supernatural traits. (note: the wife can be tai or a random npc depending on verse).
yumi higa - a forest kitsune. will likely borrow slightly from tw lore because i'm a walking cliche but will expand further on this as it gets developed. as far as powers go, she has the mild ability to communicate with plants, but it's less controlling vines and more being tapped into the network of the forest. she's able to sense movements and disturbances within a physical space using plants, which helps keep her guard up. much more of a defensive/strategic powerset than an offensive one
khalida - a former witch who has largely turned her back on her natural powers after she loses her sister. It's less that she's afraid or turns against magic altogether, but rather that she thinks it tends to cause more trouble than it's worth. she will have some awkward questions to answer when her son is old enough though
okay for the 4 people who care about this crossover, here's the yj muses thrown into a tvdu world. this will probably also serve as the generic supernatural verse (well, supernatural beyond whatever woo woo shit is going on in canon).
lottie matthews - french quarter witch whose greatest strength/power lies in the gift of prophecy and visions. these are rarely straightforward or easy to interpret and she's gotten it wrong more than she's gotten it right. however, she thinks they were given to her for a reason and believes in trying to use it to help others, even if she stumbles a bit along the way.
van palmer - untriggered werewolf who was attacked by another pack when she was 17, which left her with facial scars and a deep, yet irrational fear of her own wolf. she knows it's likely only a matter of time before she triggers the curse and is trying to grapple with the reality that she can never escape the thing she fears most.
taissa turner - vampire who was turned in the 60s, at the height of the civil rights era. taissa is old enough to understand the patterns of history repeating itself, but still young enough that she is caught in her own hubris of trying to enjoy all the perks of immortality without any of the consequences.
shauna shipman - werewolf who triggered her curse at 18 and never looked back at the sleepy suburban life she left behind. the wolf brought a lot of clarity to shauna, who never understood where the depths of her temper and rage would stem from, and she finds herself discovering a new way of life by embracing the wolf.
natalie scatorccio - vampire turned in 1996 when a night of partying turned into an overdose with vampire blood in her system. nat is still very young when it comes to being a vampire, and she has a tendency to overindulge in feeding. not to the level of a ripper status, but enough that she can cause a few heads to turn if she's not careful about covering her tracks.
