Tbh I feel like a lot of people who believe Lucy and Cooper will have a dad-daughter relationship are just placing the Joel-Ellie filter on them because they're another male-female apocalyptic duo and aren't actually considering the characters and where they are in their lives right now. Cooper didn't lose a daughter like Joel did. He has one, who he's currently looking for. There's no daughter-shaped crater in him that needs to be healed. As for Lucy, unlike Ellie, she isn't in need of a father figure in her life. She has a dad, who she had a great relationship with up until the truth was revealed. She is a well adjusted girlie, no daddy issues present. If anything, it's her mother that's the sore spot. Especially considering the fate she had.
"My name is Lucy MacLean, and I'm an active contributor to the wellbeing of my community. I enjoy participating in the Young Pipefitter's Association, which keeps me active. Obviously, mine are nothing compared to my dad's, but I always relish a challenge. My primary passion is teaching American History, with a focus on ethics. I also participate in Gymnastics Club, Fencing Team C… Intermediate Phys Ed… and I dabble in Riflery. Though I'm not very good. In my personal time, I enjoy taking walks and watching movies with my dad, gardening… also with my dad… and participating in my family book club. We're still trying to get my brother on board. He'll come around when he's ready. My reproductive organs are intact, my hygiene well-maintained, and yet I have been unable to find a suitable marriage partner. So, it is with sound mind and body that I hereby submit my application to the council to participate in the Triennial Trade with Vault 32."
Rewatching the show and Ghoulcy's first meeting is genuinely so funny because my good sis was basically just yapping and Cooper just let her 😭 She's so lucky she had those big bambi eyes to distract him with because otherwise he would've shot her pretty little ass on sight lol.
I love that Lucy is like... compassionate to a fault. She's polite to the weird water filter guy even though he drinks all her water and makes these odd little advances on her. She tries to use Snip Snip as a hostage because she sees him as a living being (which then falls flat because the others don't). She releases the feral and semiferal ghouls because she sees them as human beings too.
I know this show is supposed to harden her to the wasteland but like... as a main character in an apocalypse setting, she's actually a huge breath of fresh air for being genuinely polite and open to the people she encounters
