Today I learned that Frollo’s (black) horse is (ironically) named Snowball… LIKE. WhY THAT nAmE???? QhY’S THE nAmE SO……. …. . . .. . CUTEsY????????????? Despite its (presumed) owner being so… awful 🤡 WHAT IS THE PURPOSE??????

Can you imagine. Horsebackriding/Equestrian Club Rollo??? And he just. NamES HiS gHORSR “Snowball” (or some other super cute name)?????? Imagine him casually stroking Snowball’s mane while he’s watching crimson flowers consume the city and listening to people cry out in agony…

I know we don’t even see Rollo interact with a horse in Glorious Masquerade but let me have this—

As Gladys' débutante ball approaches, Mrs Russell seems to be on a spree of cutting off her nose to spite her face, first disinviting Carrie Astor because her mother wouldn't receive her, now wanting to dismiss Monsieur Baudain who's turned out to be a fraudulent Frenchman, a mere ouiabou wannabe from Kansas. How much ball will be left after all these cuts and changes?

Pegasus (Hercules) 6/10 A fun design, lot’s of personality. But kinda gives off Frat Boy energy. 

Baby Pegasus (Hercules) 11/10 I’d die for him. 

Khan (Mulan)  10/10 Look at those absurd proportions-- the tiny legs and the huge barrel chest- amazing. 

Bullseye (Toy Story 2-4)  4/10 Is he cute? yes. But as someone who has owned many toy horses in her life, this is not a toy horse I would be pleased with. 

This Bullseye Toy I found looking for a movie picture of Bullseye -100/10 This thing IS cursed and we will probably all die for having seen it. But I’m taking you all down with me. 

Buck (Home on the Range)  2/10 No matter what picture, no matter what expression, you look at this horse and just KNOW he would be so unpleasant to talk to. 

Blessedly, there is no horse in Chicken Little. 

Destiny (Enchanted)  5/10 This is a Barbie horse and I swear I owned it. 

Maximus (Tangled) 7/10 A good design but too much dogness.

Description: After saving Shang from Shan yu show him your secret to see if he still trusts you

You fought a group of huns with your friend Mulan who had been your friend for years, joining her in the army for honor but to also be who you are even with the risks involved with what the two of you were doing. You happen to turn when you see Shan Yu behind your general and friend Li Shang fighting 3 other huns on his own, not seeing shan behind him ready to take him out but you were going to make sure that wouldn't happen to anyone let alone someone you cared about if you had any say in it. You run jumping and tackling shan yu managing to get good hits even cutting his shoulder, rolling and moving quickly in between the hits with your sword before you got hit and thrown a few feet away from him hitting your back on a rock slowly leaning up seeing Chien Po and ling running to where you were, fearing that you and shang had gotten hurt instead you all see shang and mulan disguised as her alias Ping fighting while the boys ran to you after seeing you across from them leaned on the rock you hit. You groan in pain as chien po lifts you and puts you on his shoulder running to hide from the avalanche with shang and mulan behind you looking at them until you couldn't see them running to find them, getting caught in the avalanche finding mulan's horse Khan not to far getting on him looking for your friends seeing nothing but snow until you looked behind you and see a red cape. You immediately get and grab him looking until you hear a gasp seeing mulan nearby "Mulan! Over here!" she gets on in front of you as you see the edge of the cliff going over until you stopped mid air seeing the rope on khan smiling in relief as you guys are helped until as you and shang step on the ground the rocks below you collapse screaming as you fall grabbing hold of a steep part of the cliff holding on to shang hearing everyone yelling. Soon you see the rope next to you after climbing up on an edge putting shang over your shoulders and grabbing the rope as everyone gets you up and away from the cliff "Step away they need air" you look at each other as you catch your breath "You are two of the craziest men I ever met...and for that I owe you both my life from now on both of you have my trust" you smile as everyone cheers until you heard mulan yell in pain seeing the wound and immediately knowing that the secret you both had kept was gonna be exposed. You grab her and run in the medic tent, carefully treating her wound shaking as you try to sew the wound up until shang grabs your arm doing it as you notice one just above your chest "Do you still trust me?" You take your armor off closing your eyes until you hear a sword and feel something warm under your chin opening your eyes to see his fingers holding your chin with his sword in the corner. He patches you up thanking him as you hold your armor "You're my friend and you saved my life my debt is repaid and I trust you" you smile putting your armor on telling everyone of mulan's condition relieved she recovered going to celebrate victory until the huns came and took the emperor fighting shan yu with shang deciding to give shang an up throwing both your shoes at shan yu "I was the one you threw at the rock". You pull your hair back and with your helmet on as he realizes "Show how much you trust me" you say running as he follows you fighting him giving shang time to get him stuck as the fireworks hit him both of you holding lanterns until you both jumped landing on mulan who was looking for the both of you smiling and hugging each other as you join the boys and end up being rewarded for saving China by the emperor going back home to your family who heard the news being proud of you. You were holding your baby sister when you heard your brother say someone was here for you turning to see shang smiling big hugging and inviting him for dinner and soon after the two of you began dating and joining him on his adventures with your friends and mulan after getting engaged.

The Ballad of Mulan: 木兰诗 mù lán shī

I was curious about what the original story was like, so I looked up (a version of) the original text. It was really interesting and eye-opening because (unsurprisingly?) it's nothing like the Disney movie(s). The only real similarity is the premise: a young woman with no older brother takes her elderly father's place in the war draft. Apart from that, about every other detail is different:

Mulan has siblings: an older sister and a younger brother.

The ruler of this kingdom is referred to as the Khan/Khagan (可汗) and as the Son of Heaven (天子), titles used together for the emperors of the Northern Wei Dynasty (北魏 386–535 CE).

Mulan is never discovered to be a woman during her time in the army, spending 12 years there.

The enemy is never specified explicitly, though historically this may have been the Rouran (柔然) in present-day Inner Mongolia (内蒙古). Places that Mulan passes include the Yellow River (黄河), the Black Mountain (黑山, thought to be southeast of Huhhot 呼和浩特, Inner Mongolia), and the Yan Mountain (燕山, referring to either the 阴山 Yīn mountains of Inner Mongolia or the 燕然山 Yānrán mountains of Mongolia 蒙古).

The description of her journey is much longer and more colorful than anything about the war itself, providing imagery and parallel structure that differs from the rest of the poem.

On the soldiers' return, the emperor offers Mulan a government position (尚书郎), which she turns down, asking only for a 明驼 to return her home across the 万里 that separated her from her family. I wasn't sure if this "camel" was to be taken literally; translations I found differed on whether this was a camel, a horse, or some magical version of these which traveled at incredible speed.

The soldiers only discover that Mulan is a woman when she returns home, changing back into her old clothing (旧时裳), pulling her hair back into a feminine style, and applying makeup. I found it curious just how quickly she readjusted to her old life.

The last lines of the poem were also really beautiful and spoke to me in a queer way. It says that when you see a pair of rabbits, male and female, running together, side by side, how can you tell them apart?

雄兔脚扑朔，雌兔眼迷离，双兔傍地走，安能辨我是雄雌？

These lines include a chengyu, 扑朔迷离, meaning "complicated, confusing," which originally comes from this passage, referring to the difficulty in telling apart the male and female rabbits. "The male's foot is twitching, the female's eyes are squinted, blurry," but these small differences aren't noticeable from afar or when the rabbits are in motion. Though you might eventually be able to pick out some small details regarding the sexes of the rabbits, in the end it doesn't really matter. To the hunter, for instance, these are both simply targets; their sex is inconsequential.

For Mulan, in her role in the army, it didn't matter that she wasn't a man; she completed her tasks regardless. (And not only did she complete them, she earned recognition from the emperor for her work.)

Transphobes online may waste hours picking apart the details of people's bodies that they deem gender variant, but in the end, in many cases, people simply don't care whether the rabbit has twitchy feet or squinted eyes or whatever else. A rabbit is a rabbit, and our genders are rarely, if ever, consequential enough to the task at hand to merit such scrutiny.

Disney Horses

Disney has never tried doing a franchise focused on their equine characters, and I am disappointed. So here is a partial compilation of Disney horses--namely the ones I think would be the most marketable--just in case Disney should ever change their mind on that point and wants a reference guide to which horses they should include in the line.

Major (Cinderella, 1950)

Major is a gray stallion who is temporarily transformed into a coachman for Cinderella's night at the ball.

Samson (Sleeping Beauty, 1959)

Samson is a gray stallion belonging to Prince Phillip. He is shown to be fast and fearless, and he hates distractions and detours.

Captain (101 Dalmatians, 1961)

Captain is a gray draft stallion who lives in the English countryside. He is instrumental in aiding in the rescue of Pongo and Perdita's puppies, and helps provide them with shelter and protection during their trek back to London.

Frou Frou (Aristocats, 1970)

Frou Frou is a flaxen chestnut light draft mare belonging to Madame Adelaide Bonfamille of Paris, France. She is a close friend of Duchess and her kittens. She is the only mare to be prominently featured in a Disney animated feature film with a specific storyline. Fantasia (1940) features a pegasus mare in one of its sequences (the mother of Peter Pegasus).

Philippe (Beauty and the Beast, 1991)

Philippe is a flaxen chestnut Belgian draft stallion who belongs to Maurice and Belle. He is very cautious and skittish, but bravely returns with Belle to the Beast's castle to find her father.

Achilles (The Hunchback of Notre Dame, 1996)

Achilles is a gray warhorse who belongs to Captain Phoebus. He is trained to respond to commands the same way a dog would, and even knows how to sit and heel. He appears to get along with Frollo's Friesian stallion Snowball, despite their owners being on opposites sides.

Pegasus (Hercules, 1997)

Pegasus is a pegasus stallion belonging to Hercules. He is white with a blue mane and tail. Pegasus isn't the most intelligent horse, but he's very loyal and courageous.

Khan (Mulan, 1998)

Khan is Mulan's faithful black stallion. He carries her into battle against the Huns.

Bullseye (Toy Story 2, 1999)

Bullseye is a chestnut stallion who serves as Woody's loyal steed in the children's show that spawned the toy line Woody is part of. In the Toy Story films, Bullseye is Jessie's closest friend and ally.

Buck (Home on the Range, 2004)

Buck is a bay stallion belonging to Sheriff Brown. He is incredibly egotistical and admires the bounty hunter Rico until he learns Rico is working for the notorious Alameda Slim.

Maximus (Tangled, 2010)

Maximus is a light silver Andalusian stallion who loyally serves the Captain of the Guard, acting as both his mount and his right hand man. He is intelligent, brave and fiercely patriotic. He dedicates his life to protecting Princess Rapunzel on all her adventures.

Angus (Brave, 2012)

Angus is a black Shire stallion who serves as Merida's mount and best friend. He has good judgment and hates having to carry Merida into danger, but will do so if the cause is just.

Sitron (Frozen, 2013)

Sitron is a brunblakk (brown dun) fjord stallion who belongs to Prince Hans of the Southern Isles. Despite his owner's sinister nature, Sitron is a polite, friendly horse with fast reflexes and an instinct to protect.

Fidella (Tangled the Series, 2017)

Fidella is a bay draft mare who belongs to Cassandra. She is fast, strong and brave, and Maximus develops a crush on her. Fidella does not come from a feature film, but this list desperately needed another mare.

The Nokk (Frozen II, 2019)

The Nokk is a Scandinavian water spirit tamed by Elsa. It serves as her mount. While it is Elsa's friend and allows her to ride it, it is still very wild and will drown trespassers on the Dark Sea.

Chapter Fifteen

Dean immediately throws his hands up in the air as if he thinks I’m about to whip out a gun on him. “Woah woah hey, wait a second…”

“What are you doing here?” I demand, shocked by the invasion of my personal space. “You can’t just come to my house.”

“Okay, look, you weren’t texting back, I wanted to check that you were okay.”

I stand across from him with my arms crossed. “Well, here I am, I’m fine. What do you want?”

He gives me this loping smile that I’m sure he thinks is very charming and no doubt has practised in the mirror. He leans back against the iron railings. “I thought your housemate was lying when she said you weren’t home.”

“You rang the bell?”

“Yeah and she told me to go away.”

“I’m telling you to go away too.” I snip. “Don’t come to my house.”

He adopts a very concerned expression, his eyebrows pulled together in a frown. “Evie, am I after doing something wrong? You just stopped talking to me after last weekend.”

“You got thrown out of my birthday party for being so fucked up, I didn’t feel comfortable texting you after seeing you like that.”

He sighs and rubs the heels of his hands into his eye sockets. “I know, I know, I messed up, I’ve just been going through a lot lately. I shouldn’t have gone to the party, I just really wanted to be there for you.”

I arch my eyebrow. “Did you.”

“Yes of course! And I know, I know that the present I got you was shite, in fact, it was an insult of a present and like, I got in trouble for stealing it from work and all, it just really wasn’t good enough for you.”

“Well you can have the whiskey back if you want it. I never drank it.”

“Nah you can keep it. I deserved the trouble I got into.” His eyes get really big and soulful. “I’m so sorry, you shouldn’t have to put up with me, or with anybody, who acts like that around you.”

I shift from one foot to the other and try to keep my chin up, hoping that I have the kind of look in my eye that might turn him into stone.

“I have your real present with me, if it’s any consolation.” He says, and I watch him dig through his backpack to produce something flat and square, wrapped in paper. He holds it out to me. “I should have given you this instead of the whiskey, and also, I should have come to the party sober. I won’t ever be like that around you again.”

“It’s alright.”

“It’s not really, you can tell me I’m a dickhead if you want.”

I don’t want to tell him that. Reluctantly I take the present. It’s heavy. “Will I open it in front of you or should I do it later?”

“Whatever suits you.”

So I flip it over and peel the sellotape at the back. He’s done a very neat job of it, like, it’s as though he actually sat down at a table and spent time cutting the paper straight, folding all of the corners into neat, perfect little points. “I have no idea what this might be” I admit. 

“Well I hope that you like it.”

I fold open the paper to reveal a large, square book. “The Art of Mulan.” I read aloud, and then my eyes flick to his. “This is my favourite movie.”

“I know, you told me before.”

“I did tell you… but it must have been ages ago.”

“Yeah it was but I remembered.” His eyes are steady on my face, watchful, even.

I smooth my hand over the cover, bright red with Mulan and her horse Khan in the centre painted in striking black ink, the letters of the title beautifully embossed with gold. Despite myself, I feel my animosity toward Dean begin to thaw, I’ve never been very good at staying angry with anybody. “Thank you.” I say. “This was really nice of you.” 

He shrugs and looks away bashfully. “Ah, well, you know, it was nothing really. When I saw it in the bookshop I thought of you straight away.” 

His words strike an immediate chord with me. He thought of me… But still, I’m on edge around him. I don’t know what I’m supposed to do in a situation like this. I tuck the book under my arm and start throwing glances at the door. “Well.” I begin. “I suppose I should go-”

“So I don’t suppose you want to talk more.” He interjects. “I feel like I have some serious explaining to do.”

I hesitate. “Well, Claire, my housemate and her boyfriend are upstairs. I don’t think they’d be very pleased if I showed up with you.”

A sigh. “Why? Did I make a fool out of myself in front of them too?”

I shrug and he puts his face in his hands. “Oh Christ. I’m actually such a bloody mess sometimes, that’s so embarrassing.”

“It’s alright, it wasn’t that bad, they’re just… a bit protective of me.” He keeps his face buried and I reach out to touch his arm in a stilted gesture of comfort. “Don’t worry about it Dean, honestly, it wasn’t a big deal.”

“You don’t think so?”

“No, like not at all. It’s whatever. I was probably just being too sensitive.” 

He drops his hands and makes a sad face. “I understand if you don’t want to talk to me.”

“I do.”

“Really?”

“Really. We can hang out, I just can’t really let you come in. Why don’t we go to the park instead?”

“Okay.” He says. “As long as you don’t mind the cold too much.”

“I don’t mind.” I promise. “Let’s do that, come on.” As we head down the snowy streets together I steal a quick glance up at the windows of the apartment, just in case somebody might be watching us go.

DCA Info Part 41: Meet Ru Khan 🐴

Ru Khan (ル・カーン, Ru Kān) is a 1st year student affiliated with the Dragonstone dorm.

History

Ru was born and raised in an eastern village, but her family constantly moves from place to place due to business and other circumstances. When she was around 5 to 7 years of age, she moved to the town of Harveston. Ru used to play with the kids in her previous homes, but the only friend she fondly remembers is Epel who she played rough with from time to time. At some point in her life Ru moved again, this time to the Sunset Savannah and was left in the care of her uncle and grandmother at a noodle shop they run while her parents looked for work in the city. Despite the fact that Ru's parents come home late she understands their circumstances. She is homeschooled and often has to help her uncle run the business. They live in a place with open fields and quite far from the city, but it was a walk away from a slum area where Ruggie resides.

Personality

Ru is rather bold and won't hold back in what she thinks of people, but she won't blindly say it when it starts a fight. Ru calculates when she can say her harsh truth. When someone wants to fight, she would always start it with an agreement, asking them if they REALLY want to fight, usually the opponent backs off when she dares them. She has this sense of courage where she will outright fight anyone who dares to mess with her. It was normal in the towns she previously resided in but her mom always tells her to just tell an adult, while her uncle and grandmother ask her if she won.

She hopes to make life better for her family so that her parents don't have to work in a faraway place. Though she finds it difficult to follow etiquette and being feminine.

Appearance

Ru has fair skin, green eyes and black hair with a white streak in it and is commonly kept in a braid. She also has a "tail" of black hair behind her. A pair of horse ears can be seen on her head.

First School Uniform

Ru wears a black tunic with a green outline and red string and gem details. The tunic is worn over a brown top with the sleeves having black cuffs. She also wears green pants, white stockings, and a pair of black flat shoes with gold soles.

Ru accessorizes with a red flower hairpiece with a maroon gem in the center and a green sash with the gold circular buckle having the Japanese Kanji for the word horse "馬".

Second School Uniform

Ru’s ensemble is more flowy and while she looks tough, she has some sense of class because of her braid.

Ru’s ensemble consists of a muted green tunic with the top portion having a black collar outline and three red bow shaped knot buttons while the bottom of the tunic has flowy pants that resemble a skirt. Over the tunic is a dark gray vest with black trim and under the tunic is a brown top with black cuffs. For footwear, Ru wears a pair of black flat shoes with white leggings.

Ru accessorizes with a red flower hairpiece with a maroon gem in the center with a red ribbon shaped knot with a tassel underneath, a red necklace with a gold coin shaped pendant and a black sash.

School Statistics

Ru is classified as Student #12 and is in Class 1-D. She is a member of the Horse Grooming Club and her best subject and favorite subject is Marathon Run due to her constant need for running in the wind. Her least favorite school subject is Basic Etiquette due to having no sense of grace due to her upbringing.

Relationships

Family

Ru appears to have good relationships with her various family members and even assists her uncle with farm work or making noodles.

Pet

Ru has two pets. A Silkie Hen named Bailong and a Ferghana Horse named Cheung. They were gifted to her when her uncle won a horse during a fair and the hen was won by her grandmother from mahjong gambling match with one of the neighbors. Bailong likes to chill on places and is overall quiet while Cheung is rather energetic and is in tune with Ru's emotions, he can always tell what she's feeling.

Ru was a childhood friend of Epel and fondly remembers the time she spent with him.

Powers and Abilities

• Magic: Like her fellow students, Ru can do magic.

• Speed: Due to having the attribute of a horse, it’s safe to assume that Ru is very fast.

• Cooking: Due to Ru often helping her uncle out either with farm work or with making noodles, she developed a talent for cooking noodles. Though she prefers to make dumplings since they're easier to make.

Unique Magic

Ru's unique magic is called "Bronco Stampede" (名馬の強さ/ブロンコ・スタンピード, Buronko Sutanpīdo; lit. “Strength of the Great Horse”). When in use, she gains a strength boost and speed boost for a short period of time. Whenever she uses it, her arms and legs glow jade green with runes.

Trivia

• Her birthday is on May 17th, making her a Taurus.

• She is 175 cm tall.

• Her favorite foods are ramen and other similar noodle based dishes as well as dumplings while her least favorite food are garlic and onions. She dislikes fancy restaurants and thugs.

• She enjoys running in an open field, eating noodle based dishes and roughousing.

• Her preferred Styling Jewel Outfit Styles are Cultural and Cool.

• For her casual attire, she would wear athletic clothing since it allows for more movement and track shoes.

101 Dalmatians characters

I've been playing this game for a little over a year now, and I have been hooked on it since day 1. I love how far it's come and I love the progress it's made and how the DDLV community has grown during the duration of that time frame. Every time an update comes out, I'm always eager to see what will happen next. I also always wonder what other characters, companions, realms, and other things could be added to the game, it always keeps the excitement going whenever I think that. I only hope that it keeps living up the expectations and does a good job expanding the world of Disney Dreamlight Valley.

Khan from Mulan! I adore black horses, and I love love love how he's stylized in the movie! I can't find any info on if this was intentional or not, but his design & anatomical proportions remind me of Han Gan's drawings of horses, which is such a cool detail!! Plus I loved the movie Mulan, it's been ages since I've seen it but this guy has stuck in my memory since childhood, and imo being memorable is a quality of excellent excellent character design :D

5. Scarlet from Horseland, okay i'm going to be honest. I never watched horseland, I don't know what it's about, I know nothing about this horse, I've never met this horse. But as a wee horsegirl who loved to browse the aisles of my local Books-A-Million, I remember there was a spring when the Horseland books (which I also never read) were displayed everywhere and I specifically remember this horse bc I loooooove black horses and so she makes it onto the list bc again. Memorable <3 Also her red mane highlights look sick and i love them and i love her

OPEN MULAN STARTER

➳જ⁀➴ THE SEASONS HAD CHANGED QUICKLY and Jack Frost had visited. Bringing along with him Winter and all that came with it. A thin layer of snow blanketed the once green grass and beautiful plant life. Everything had either died for the season, or was had fell into a deep sleep. Sleep-- That reminded the warrior of her friend Aurora. Mulan couldn't help but ponder how her friend and the prince were doing. Those thought quickly disappeared, as Mulan gently pulled Khan to a stop. The warrior was dressed in thick fur lined robes and armor to help fight off Jack Frost's winter. Khan had a few extra blankets over his back to help him stay warm as well. "We should rest for a little Khan." She motioned to Khan leading him to the small creek she'd stopped them by, that wasn't frozen over so he could get a drink.

Mulan had been gathering wood on their venture so once they stopped she could easily start a warm fire. That's just what she did; building the wood up in a pile so she could light it. This took a few minutes, but once the fire was going she pulled out the food she had in one of Khan's saddle bags and started making it. The warrior had slipped off her helmet to let her long raven hair down, her helmet had shielded her face from the cold breeze that rested in the air. Her cheeks quickly turning red from the cold and a shiver running through her body. At that moment Khan grabbed one of his blankets off his back with his mouth and drapped it over his mistresses shoulders. "Khan-- thank you." She smiled at the horse how now laid himself down behind his mistress to help keep the two warm while he grazed on the grass around them.
