history !
Park Ah-reum was born on September 1st, 1994 in Apgujeong, Seoul, South Korea. The second oldest of three daughters, she was born to two entertainment industry moguls. As the daughter of pop icon Ah-young Kim and renowned director Park Junghoon, and hailing from a family of actors, Ah-reum and her sisters were pretty much expected to go into entertainment one day. Ah-reum would get her start as a child actress and model, often appearing on screen alongside her mother.
In 2005, the family would move from their ritzy apartment in seoul to Palm Beach—one, for a change of scenery, and two, for Ah-reum to get a chance at furthering her career. After a few modeling gigs, Ah-reum scored a contract with Disney, and the family was quick to relocate to California. However, in 2006, Ah-reum and her older sister were persuaded to audition for SM ENTERTAINMENT alongside one of their friends. Ever the “momager,” Ah-young allowed the girls to audition, and they passed. There, they trained alongside the future members of GIRLS’ GENERATION and even met their future bandmate, KIM EUNMI. After only training for a year, however, the girls ended up leaving the company. They returned to california, and Ah-reum continued acting.
Then, in early 2008, Ah-reum and her sister were scouted off the streets again, this time by CSJ ENTERTAINMENT. A medium sized company, they had recognizable 1st generation names under their belt such as CODE RED and THE DREAM. The girls auditioned again, and yet again, they made it through. AS a trainee, Ah-reum modeled frequently, appearing in quite a lot of CFs. She also had bit parts in dramas, and appeared in music videos for Code Red, The Dream, and other groups such as GIRLS’ GENERATION and SHINEE. She, along with her sister and another soon-to-be member of DI-VERSE, JUNG MINA, were also backup dancers for the former.
In late 2009, CSJ began plans for another girl group, teasing the possibility on their website. Slated for debut in the summer of 2010 and meant to have nine members, the agency was quick to choose promising trainees for the new lineup. Ah-reum was known for her visuals and surprising rap skills, and she and her sister were both talented dancers. As a result, they and another trainee, KIM EUNMI, were three of the first members chosen to debut in what would become DI-VERSE.
The lineup went through a couple changes before landing on what would be it’s final one in early 2010. With their debut coming close, the girls were pushed even harder by CSJ. However, in may, Ah-reum went through a particularly severe anxiety attack, and was thus diagnosed with anxiety disorder, bipolar depression, and OCD. As a result, she was forced to temporarily pull from the debut lineup. Not wanting to debut DI-VERSE without Ah-reum, CSJ pushed the group’s debut to the end of 2010, before pushing it into 2011 to allow ample time for Ah-reum to rest. She didn’t train for 5 months, and ended up returning in October. At that point, a debut that year was virtually impossible.
Into 2011, Ah-reum continued training with the rest of DI-VERSE, appearing in more music videos and CFs alongside the members as their debut approached. And finally, after 3 years and a delayed debut, Ah-reum was revealed as the FIRST MEMBER of DI-VERSE, debuting as the group’s leader, main dancer, lead rapper, sub-vocalist, and visual.
trivia !
in 2012, AHRI replaced her sister as the center of DI-VERSE, shortly before the start of the HATE U era
predebut, she was a rhythmic gymnast and a classically trained contemporary dancer
as a child model, she modeled for brands such as chloé, miu miu, and chanel. she walked the runway for chanel with her mother in 2000

Unpopular opinion but I think that both Minzy and CL have better singing voices than Bom (with all due respect), and since CL couldn't be both main vocal and rap, Minzy should have been main and Bom lead
oooh interesting lol 👀 that's not something i've heard before tbh
i personally love bom's voice (it's one of the most unique in kpop imo), but yeh definitely wish minzy had been given more chances to shine in 2ne1 tbh...

Cover Story: CL Redefined
By: Zaneta Cheng
Since going solo, the Korean superstar has doubled down on defining just who she is. From new album ALPHA to the 2NE1 Coachella performance that broke the Internet, she talks to Zaneta Cheng about why, at the end of the day, it’s most important to remain true to herself
Tumblr media
C-H-A-E-L-I-N, that’s me Tell me, what in the world is real, real I’m never sorry ’bout how I feel I don’t really care if you hate me Or love me, you will never change me
This is the only verse in Chae-lin Lee’s (most commonly known as CL) new single “Chuck” that she raps entirely in English. The lyrics are a bold statement of what the Korean pop sensation is all about in ALPHA, her first physical solo album since leaving her previous label YG Entertainment to establish her own company, Very Cherry, as an independent artist. Each track is unchartered territory.
Tumblr media
From genre to visual direction, the dancing, singing, rapping powerhouse has taken control of the wheel. “I like to take on new challenges and try new things. Rather than committing to a particular genre or style, I like to explore new things in my own way at any given moment and maintain my own style and identity,” she says. “I’ve always worked on and been involved with all the creative. But to be in charge of and responsible for the direction – that wasn’t easy, but it was certainly a fun experience.”
Tumblr media
This newfound independence certainly seems to be a merger of the best of two worlds for the artist. For all the countless documentaries that have been made about training in South Korea’s largest entertainment agencies, there’s no doubt that the talent that makes it out to domestic and international audiences is a cut above the rest. It’s evident in the music video for “Chuck” that CL can dance laps around even the best in the industry. The 31-year-old has, after all, been training since she signed with YG at 15.
With not a single outfit or location change, the “Chuck” music video is a three-minute showcase of CL’s incredible ability to hold an audience rapt to her performing ability. “I started my career with dancing and I wanted to show that original aspect of me in this MV,” she says. It’s not just CL’s prowess that the video demonstrates; the dancers spelling out each individual letter of her name also help to show how she is wresting her identity away from the behemoth corporations that once defined her.
Tumblr media
There are also scenes where CL is smacking down hwatu cards from the archetypal Korean card game Go-Stop in front of an arched doorway so representative of classic Americana. Of this, CL says, “I’ve always had Korean elements in my music videos and I usually like to do that. But this time I wanted to do something different. I chose a special location that’s very American to capture the contrast between the background and me, as an Asian.”
Born in Seoul, CL spent a large part of her early life in Japan and France, which might go some ways to explain her openness to genres and experimentation in her work as an artist now but also when she started out in the industry as a member of girl group 2NE1.
Opting out of the hamster wheel of sugary sweet girly girl groups that were emblematic of the K-pop industry in 2009 when 2NE1 debuted, CL and her fellow group members Bom, Dara and Minzy showed girls there was an option to be who they wanted to be outside of the mainstream. With singles like “Fire”, “I Don’t Care”, “Ugly” and CL’s first solo single “The Baddest Female”, the artist has staked a place in a space where girls can be whoever they want to be.
Move the scrubber to the most replayed section of the “Chuck” music video and it’s where CL twirls, belting out “lie, lie, lie, lie, lie, lie” while casually and proudly holding up a middle finger with her backup dancers that makes one think just how much work it has taken for artists and musicians like her to get to a place where they can stick it to the man and do what truly represents themselves.
“My music always contains the message that we must be ourselves and not think about what others think. I’ve been trying to get messages like these across because it’s hard to be like that,” CL says. “I’ve been making music for a while now and it’s always a challenge to maintain my own musical identity. This song is a reminder for everyone who is in this situation or will be in the future.”
Perhaps the most exemplary instance of this contrast is CL’s debut performance at this year’s Coachella music festival where she reunited with the other members of 2NE1 for a performance of “I Am the Best”, a song which reached number one on Billboard’s World Digital Songs Chart, the first K-pop song to do so, and remained the sixth-best-selling K-pop song in 2013 in the United States. The song was, in a way, both a homecoming and a farewell for the group that disbanded in 2016.
“I’ve always wished to be back on stage with all the other members as a group,” CL explains. “I always had this thought in the back of my mind that we didn’t say a proper goodbye to our fans. I happened to get an invitation to perform at Coachella and I had a strong feeling that this was the stage I’d always been waiting for. I’m grateful that the other members also bravely accepted this.”
Tumblr media
Lately, CL has been tearing up Paris Fashion Week. Never one to fear pushing the envelope, the K-pop star has eyes trained to whichever show she attends. Lest we think she doesn’t do downtime, CL, in her new independence, also relaxes by exploring the outdoors. “These days, I try to take time to see nature, even when I’m abroad for work. Recently I was at the seaside, and I also try different kinds of tea.”
There’s more we learn about CL, beyond the superstar. She alternates between extrovert and introvert each time she takes an MBTI test. She really likes cucumber. Her tattoos aren’t really of anything special but they’re all special because she decided to put them on her body. This is similar to her approach toward the songs on ALPHA – “Every song means a lot to me. That’s why I don’t have a title song on this album.”
Tumblr media
CL’s #legend is her mother and she still – despite having broken chart records and having become a symbol of the Korean pop success story, pioneering the way West for groups following her like Blackpink and BTS – has dreams. Only, “I have dreams, but I was told that dreams are not to be said out loud.”
At the end of the day, CL is now just, happily and freely, herself. “You should never give up but maintain your own pace. Sometimes you feel like you have no motivation to do something, but once you get moving, something new might come up,” she says. “So I suggest you keep going. But it’s just as important to rest well when you want a break.”
Like the lyrics of her song says, “you will never change me”, and change her we do not want to do. Along with her avid fans around the world, we can be sure that CL will bring us much more of herself and we won’t be sorry for it.

is okay to ask why you dont like bp? i mean im not a blink myself but i still like them im just curious-
of course!! even if you were a blink I wouldn't mind explaining lmao, Im always up for explaining myself
so, here's the watch mojo top 10:
1. this isn't really their blame, but I can't help it. I was a blackjack (2NE1 stan) and 2NE1 (former YG group) suffered so much during their careers, from verbal abuse to just straight up neglect, and when they disbanded YG debuted blackpink, this group very carefully made to replace every aspect of 2NE1. We have the badass girlcrush concept, we have the vocal with the unique high pitched voice (Bom/Rosé), we have the rapper with the very distinct nasal tone (CL/Lisa), we have the visual and vocal who comes in the song to sing just a couple of lines (Dara/Jisoo) and we have the one in the group that will sing, dance and rap, whatever is needed (Minzy/Jennie). To me it seems too much of a coincidence, taking in account how different YG boy groups are and how each have their own characteristics it seems like they were very much 'manufactured' to replace 2NE1 and my thoughts were pretty much confirmed by Bom (former 2NE1 vocalist) throwing shade at BlackPink.
Also the fact that they're treated like royalty and given back to back comebacks when there's groups starving in the basement
2. the songs have been the same since debut. The same pink-purple-black themed MVs (I get it, their name is blackpink, but we don't need to take that literally), the same lyric themes, as the badass girls who dont need no man and are better than the boy who left them heartbroken, and the choruses that consist of nothing but the constant repetition of the title of the song + noises in between. Some were good, but it starts to get tiring after the 6th or 7th comeback that's like all others. The only song they had that stands out from their regular works is as if it's your last and guess what, that song was originally for 2NE1 but they never got to release it because they disbanded.
3. I hate being spammed and having shit pushed down my throat and that's what constantly happens to blackpink, every comeback I'm constantly forced to hear their songs because it plays everywhere
4. blinks are horrid. Part of the reason why I stopped stanning BP was because of how toxic the fandom is, they have this sense of superiority that comes from absolutely nowhere. Like, calm down, the group you stan came from one of the big 3, success was given to them from the get go. They are extremely disrespectful, intolerable and an overall pain in the ass.
overall I just don't see much of a reason to stan them?? I dont like their self-plagiarised songs and YG does little to no promotions and from what I've seen I just don't like the way they 'behave' (except jisoo she's a sweetheart and I love her) cause they just seem bland?? Idk I didn't find their show appearances very interesting but that is my opinion
there was another point but I'll keep it for myself (at least for now) because I don't wanna hear anyone bitch about it lmao

Minzy is one of the best dancers in KPOP BY FAR- But she's always forgotten about. Seriously, her prescence is top-tier, always gave 10000000% percent in her peformances, yet she's disregarded. Not only are vocals and rap really amazing too. She's one of the top idols but she's always forgotten.

Roundup: Freshest Releases
NCT 2021 “Beautiful”
youtube
I checked the full album and nothing beats the title track this time, “Beautiful” is the most generic song on the album, but at least it’s not a boring Christmas song.
Billlie “Snowy Night”
youtube
Billlie had a great debut but what am I supposed to say about this? It’s not terrible but really just forgettable. The mv is cute. I was looking forward to Kep1er’s debut but that was postponed to next year.
MINZY “Fantabulous”
youtube
Minzy hasn’t really found her sound yet, here she does some Latin influenced pop and awkward rapping that doesn’t fit the winter season at all. Who is advising her? “Counting Stars” by BE'O is doing well in Korea right now, of course it’s just boring r’n’b.

in terms of female idol rappers who would you say is good? after seeing your reasoning for male idols i’m interested in hearing your opinion bc you’re v well spoken!
hey!! ahh i'm glad thank u for being interested in my opinions!
the best female kpop rapper is yoon mirae (aka tasha reid). period. there is no one like her, no one comes close. but again, this is like epik high's situation.... can she even be considered kpop? she's the best but maybe that's because she's a k hiphop star
for actual kpop idol female rapper, CL is at the top. no one has surpassed her. she's really fucking good and she has developed a great technique through the years. i wish she put out more music lol. minzy is also really good, together they made 2ne1's rapline the most iconic female rapline of all time.
then there's g-idle's soyeon, who is hands down the best 4th gen rapper and is on her way to be top 3 of all time. she's so promising i can't wait to see more of her work. she writes and produces all her rap songs and her strong suit is her delivery. her flow is out of this world, she can spit bars super fast but also get into slower songs. it's amazing
other great ones are mamamoo's moonbyul, who is also really great but her problem is she has little versatility. she clearly has a style she's comfortable with but once you hear her delivery you're getting more of the same. she's still the best 3rd gen rapper along with exid's LE. LE has more versatility but her technique is sloppier. she struggles with faster verses too, moonbyul is more agile.
yeeun from clc and dreamcatcher's dami are also really good! wish more people talked about them in best female rapper conversations. they're both way above your average kpop rapper and i wish they had more rap songs because they both have a lot of talent.
jessi just emulates black women when she raps, that's why she's sorta good but the blaccent is too hard to let slide. i don't think she's a good rapper she's just good at faking it
and before someone asks no i don't think anyone in blackpink is a good rapper. lisa does what she can but as i said there's a difference between talking fast and being an actual rapper. jennie has rehearsed a lot and she puts her effort in. still, they are not rappers but they're still better than most female idols so they get a bonus mention

Mia + Woojin & Changbin
woojin talks to changbin about mia.
I think this is really the post you guys have all been waiting for :)) please don’t hesitate to tell me what you guys think, your feedback is always appreciated! requests are still open!
[10th Member of Stray Kids]
Tumblr media
“Hey you got a minute?”
Changbin looked up from his phone as he was laying on his bed. He saw Woojin stand by the door frame of his room. He put his phone down, nodding his head.
“Yeah, what’s up?” He said, getting into a sitting position on his bed.
Woojin slowly walked in, closing the door behind as he did so. He wanted to make sure no one would hear them as he talked to Changbin.
He sat across from Changbin on Mia’s bed, looking at the boy before he decided to say something. Woojin knew he wanted to help Mia out, so he wanted to address to Changbin what was going on.
“Is there something going on between you and Minzi?” He asked.
Changbin choked on his saliva a bit, eyes widening at Woojin’s question. It was the last thing he’d except to be asked. “No.” He said. “Why would you think that?”
“Because you guys have been super close lately.”
“Well, yeah. I mean I’ve been helping her with rapping and we just so happened to get close. We’re just friends.” Changbin replied.
“Mia doesn’t see it like that.”
Changbin stared at Woojin, furrowing his eyebrows upon hearing Mia’s name. “Why does she care anyways.” Changbin scoffed.
“Because she likes you.” Woojin said, crossing his arms. “And she literally cried to me when she saw you guys together.”
Changbin’s eyes widen, his heart beginning to race a little faster. There was no way.
From seeing his reaction, Woojin continued to speak. “She told me everything. I know you like her too.”
Changbin looked down at his lap. “But she’s with Changkyun. It’s not like I can do anything.” He said in a low voice.
“She broke it off with him not too long ago.”
“She did?” Changbin slightly gasped, as he snapped his head up.
Woojin nodded his head. “Yeah, and that day she tried to talk to you but you ended up walking out, yeah, she was trying to confess to you, idiot.”
“You need to start letting her talk instead of constantly shutting her off.” Woojin added.
Changbin didn’t know what to say. He was beginning to feel so many emotions. From knowing Mia liked him back was beginning to make his heart warm to then mentally cursing himself for not letting her confess the other day.
“She probably hates me now.”
“I can tell you she doesn’t.” Woojin replied.
“Well what do I do?”
“You idiot, go get her.” Woojin said, throwing one of Mia’s pillows at him. “She’s in the dance room like always.”
Changbin quickly got up from his bed, hurrying his way to the door until he heard Woojin’s voice again.
“And Changbin?” Woojin called out.
The boy turned around to look at Woojin staring back at him intensely. “Hm?”
“This better be the last time I ever see Mia cry because of you.”
Changbin gave him a nod of approval before quickly dashing out the room then out of the dorms to find Mia. He already knew which dance studio she was in.
The closer he got, the closer his heart was ready to come out of his chest. He was both anxious and nervous, and didn’t know what he was going to do when he got to her.
But when Changbin saw Mia from the window of the door of the dance studio, he instantly had an idea.
Mia was in the middle of dancing, more of freestyling dancing since she was bored at the dorms and had nothing else to do. Plus she wanted to clear her mind off things and the dance studio was her comfort zone.
Changbin swung the door open, catching Mia off gaurd as she stopped her dancing to look at him.
“Galindo.” He said, marching right towards the girl.
Mia has no time to say anything as Changbin came up to her way too fast, cupping her face and pressing his lips to her.
She got a little shocked at was happening but ended up kissing back as she grabbed the back of his hair.
The kiss lasted for about 10 seconds, the both of them breaking apart to catch their breaths. Changbin rested his forehead on hers, having his eyes closed still.
“What was that for?” Mia asked, breathless.
“My way of saying I want you.” Changbin replied. “And also a sorry for about the other day when you tried to confess to me.”
“Woojin told me everything.” He added. “I’m sorry I keep shutting you out and you don’t have to worry about Minzi, there’s nothing going on between us.”
Having the question that’s been bothering her for the past few days answered, Mia began to brightly smile at him.
“So what happens now?” Mia asked softly.
“You become my girlfriend, that’s what happens now.” Changbin smirked at her.
Mia jokingly scoffed at him. “I don’t remember you asking me to be your girlfriend, Seo.”
“I don’t need to ask, because you’re already mine.”
Mia bit her lip, looking down as a blush crept up at her face. Her heart was racing and all she wanted to do was scream, but she held herself together.
For once she was thinking about herself and her happiness. And it was Changbin who she wanted, so she was putting her group to the side and letting her guard down.
“Alright then, boyfriend.”
Changbin smiled widely, liking the sound of her calling him her boyfriend. He went back down, giving her another kiss.
Mia had gone through a rollercoaster of emotions for the last few days, but this was definitely the moment she had been hoping for.

as a fellow blackjack in need your opinion on this. let's discuss:
okay so yesterday someone tweeted:"cl & bom made 2ne1" and obviously bjs drag them. I was having fun reading the replies but then I thought about it. ofc 2ne1 wouldn't be 2ne1 without ALL 4 members but the group's image/concept was made around cl. when you think about it minus their top tier discography, 2ne1 were mostly known/praised for performances, charisma, fashion, rapping skills. and that's literally all cl. no shade but when you look at them post disbandment cl still ates everyone performance wise, her fashion is on another level, she's the only one who can really rap and is one of the best in the industry. Bom really made me cringe on queedom, minzy is really disappointing and dara is just there sitting pretty.
your thoughts?
Idk if its really fair to compare their post 2ne1 solo careers, bc their styles are so different. CL has the same fierce image that she had in 2NE1 and that for sure worked to her advantage in her solo performances and discography. Bom and Minzy however not only both left the group/company after big scandals on their plates but they had to reinvent themselves from scratch after that, and looking at their most recent releases the styles they had found for themselves post 2NE1 are VERY different than what they did in the group. I loved their post releases especially considering how much they had to go through just to get to where they’re at right now but I can understand it not being other’s styles.
I don’t want to necessarily say that 2ne1 was made around CL, it was rather her energy matched their concepts the best, plus the fact that she’s the leader so she’d be put more in the center with her girls around her. I haven’t seen queendom if I’m honest so I can’t comment on that but idk why you think Minzy is disappointing? To this day she is extremely underrated but she is one of THE most well rounded idols out there - she is one of the best dancers in the industry period (I will stand by this until the day I die), she has AMAZING vocals, and I think her stage presence is quite good as well. Her personality is still more on the shy side so that may be hard for people to latch onto I suppose?
Musically and performance wise yes Dara isn’t on par with the others. I think she adds a nice change though with 3 power vocals in the group but thats my personal bias lol but she has always been doing a LOT of variety and pushing her group in other ways. Imo she adds to the well roundedness of the group as a whole - while the others may be more skilled at singing/dancing/rapping, they were idols and still needed to be promoted like idols - and thats where Dara comes in. To this day she is still hyping up 2ne1 as often as she possibly can, she’s like their spokesperson. She did a solid 70% of 2ne1tv when they were doing that lol, she made the other members comfortable, etc, so I disagree on her just being a pretty face, she’s been working her ass off as well for the group to get them the recognition they deserve
