I'm kind of sad how TMNT will showcase Mikey's low self esteem issues and abandonment issues all for nothing because than they'll just sweep it under the rug like it never happened like what is the point in showing me Mikey's vulnerable side that needs comfort someone to talk to him about his problems and not have anything done with it this happens in every TMNT series too 2003 1987 2012 rise in one way or a form and they just pretend it doesn't exist.

Mikey: The Character Analysis of a Troublemaker

Warning: This may turn into a another rant. But most of this is just an analysis of his character throughout the Dhar Mann series. After this, I will finally talk about something else.

The Initial Analysis of Mikey

Introduction: Michael "Mikey" Miller is a recurring character in the popular web series of Dhar Mann, created by Dhar Mann. He is often used as a representation of those who constantly cheat and use shortcuts to achieve their goals and is the face of the lesson: what happens in the dark always comes to light.

Mikey(summary of character overall)-He is the son of Mrs and Mr. Miller and brother of Jayden Miller. Mikey is often portrayed as a mischievous troublemaker, who is often disinterested in school work and as a result constantly uses cheating to get out of doing it. He's also shown to be lazy, irresponsible and desperate for validation by his peers.(*This is just based on how he's portrayed, not the reality *) At the same time, he is also very fun-loving and goofy, often seen being very close with Jay, who seems to be the only person to enjoy his recklessness, as well as having a more kinder side for those he cares about, including his little brother Jayden.

Character Type: Anti-Hero/Villain Protagonist (*Note: I'm only going based on how Dhar Mann portrays him, this does NOT mean it's true or how I view him.*)

Type of Character: Flat/Static Character (is only shown to be lazy, mischievous and a liar, and only started to change slightly in recent videos.)

Character Development (if he has any): Mikey goes from being lazy, always cheating and using short cuts to get what he wants, to actually trying to do things the right way and not using a shortcut. He even starts to lie (if by a only a little) less. He still is mischievous, but is noticably less.

In-depth Character Analysis:

Edit: I initially was going to give the history in which Mikey has appeared in Dhar Mann's series, but every plot with him is the same and it drove me nuts to write the same thing over and over again. So instead I'll jump right into to the in-depth analysis.

Mikey is the stereotypical "troublemaker" that never learns. He's always shown to be lying to get out of doing work, he's always cheating on exams and tests he feels are too difficult, he always gets caught and suffers the consequences. No one within the Dhar Mann universe can understand why Mikey is always being mischievous and often try to warn him to quit while he's ahead. On the outside, Mikey is just another kid that doesn't listen to authority and is just too lazy to put in the work. Because of this, everyone in his neighborhood is wary of him and never believe anything he says. His teachers are skeptical of him, everyone in school distances themselves from him, even his own friends grow exasperated with him and even wonder why they're still friends with him. Even his mother and younger brother seems to always be disappointed in him. But maybe this is the problem.

Mikey is shown consistently throughout the videos to be struggling in school. When he's supposed to be preparing for a test, he instead opts to play video games and often speeds his time coming up with ways to get out doing it. One could say Mikey is too lazy to do it, but it's implied that Mikey is not interested in the school, not because he thinks it's boring, but because he believes he's incapable of doing well. Throughout his appearances, Mikey consistently gets Fs or Cs and D's, with his teachers, friends and even brother and Mom only expecting him fail. So when he finally does do well in school work or passes a test, he's in complete disbelief. Because he doesn't believe he's capable of doing well according to the school; he feels as though he's not smart enough to reach that achievement. This suggests that he might have some underlying self-doubt hidden beneath his mischievous behavior. And when a person has self-doubt or doesn't think they can do anything useful, they are less likely to actively try to change; they are more likely to give up on themselves. His schemes could be interpreted as a coping mechanism for his perceived lack of skills, since he seems convinced scheming is one of the few things he's good at.

Mikey's self-doubt may have stemmed from his mother and the constant pressures she puts on him. Mrs. Miller is portrayed to be strict and sets high expectations for her children when it comes to school work and moral values. For example, she once said that in order for her kids to play on the PS5, they both had to get straight As on their final, no exceptions, meaning that if they got anything lower than that, they wouldn't be able to play on it. Her youngest son, Jayden, is able to meet these expectations and always upholds the moral values that she engrained in him and Mikey. Because of this, Mrs. Miller favors Jayden over Mikey, since he reaches her standards, and because of this, expects even more from Mikey.

Whenever Mikey does something wrong, Mrs. Miller gives him the same lectures about how what happens in the dark always comes to light or there are no shortcuts to success, you have to do things the right way,usually accompanied by harsh punishments. And while Mikey is getting punished, his mother would show affection and love towards Jayden right in front of him (Mikey), giving him all the rewards Mikey wanted and obvious support. His mother's favoritism of his younger brother or over him is shown to infuriated Mikey to no end, hinting at growing resentment towards Jayden and his mother. This resentment towards his brother, including him being full aware that he's everything Mikey is not (a straight A, rule-abiding kid), could cause him to develop insecurities about himself, such as the fact that his mother seems to always be disappointed in him or that he'll always be inferior to his younger brother. This can also cause him to develop a superiority inferiority complex, where his feelings of being the worst kid can make him inflate his ego in order to feel good about himself, which could explain his acting out.

His insecurities also seem to stem from his friendships with Jay and Derek. Whenever his friends are on-screen, Jay (used to) be more supportive and enjoyed Mikey's recklessness, while Derek, who is portrayed as the "goody two-shoes", would constantly discourage his friend and give him the same lectures that his mom would give. Hearing his own friends give his mother's lectures probably makes Mikey want to rebel even more, but the storyline makes it to where these lectures are right and that Mikey is wrong. Eventually, Jay starts to agree with these lectures, which would be fine, if it didn't mean that he also started to look down on Mikey. Any person that Mikey interacts with that has the higher moral ground than him seem to look down on Mikey, as shown with Derek, Jayden and even Jay. Because of this, any advice they give comes off as distant, cold and condescending. And this painfully obvious to Mikey, especially when Jay, his own best friend, who liked him unconditionally and understood his feelings, starts acting the same way towards him. But now that Jay is finally getting character development, it seems as though his relationship with Mikey is less genuine and he's much less fond of his best friend. This new development can leave Mikey, who already is an outcast in school and to his peers due to his lying, feeling very alone. Because Mikey starts to give in to his impulses, since there's no one left to turn to or understand him.

Overall, Mikey is flawed and is portrayed in a way that makes him appear as a flat and static character. But while Mikey is a static character, receiving almost no character development, he also has many deeper layers underneath the reason why he behaves the way he does. His actions, while they are his own, are influencd by the community he grows up in. His family is toxic, since his mother clearly views Jayden as her favorite, leaving Mikey with a large amount of resentment for his mother, and almost a hatred for his brother. Even his friendships with Derek and Jay are toxic, since they seem to be looking down on Mikey in almost every interaction, and are condescending towards him in every way. *Note: Even when Mikey isn't doing anything wrong and his expressing his feelings or dreams with his friends, they just seem to shoot his dreams down and are very unsupportive of him.* These toxic relationships leave Mikey with no genuine, unconditional emotional support system to encourage him to do the right thing and can leave him to view himself as a bad person or a failure. Hence why, Mikey, the "troublemaker" let's himself continuously do the wrong thing, because that all anyone every sees him doing. That's the only way he'll be recognized.

This take on Mikey is actually really sad and it would be interesting if Dhar Mann explored this more. But then again, probably not.

“we're almost always here after school, so you can come by any time.” ron explained as he stepped into his room.

“you go to school?” carl gaped, surprised.

“it's in a garage - little kids go in the morning and then it's us in the afternoon. you'll probably go to school… right?”

“probably.”

“guys, this is carl - carl, this is mikey, enid, and you’ll meet the other girl later.“

“hey.” mikey smiled

“hi.” enid huffed

“you said other girl - who’s the other girl?”

“she’s too complex - gotta meet her on your own... anyways, both of the girls are from outside too - just came eight months ago.”

the brunette stood awkwardly, staring at enid who was reading the comics, “oh, uhm… is this yours?” he asked, pulling a comic out of his back pocket.

“sorry! we didn't know you guys got that house.” ron apologized quickly

“we mostly just hang out there and listen to music. that ones shared.” mikey laughed.

carl lightly handed the comic to enid, who just tossed it to the side.

"welcome to alexandria, loser." a voice smiled from behind carl, causing him to whip around.

the brunette looked up for a second, gaping at the girl who stood before him. she wasn’t tall, nor was she short. she had beautifully long eyelashes, and her hair perfectly fit her face. in one hand she held a few comic books, and in the other, her drink.

she was mesmerizing.

"its carl, isn't it? i've heard of you, you're from the new group right? the ones that tried to kill our people?" she laughed as she took off her headphones.

"we didn't mean to-"

"they always say that... so sad."

"i'm sorry... we just were scared."

"scared?"

"yeah. scared, 'cause your 'people' were following us."

"yeah, and now you're here. so don't complain or we'll kick y'all out."

"oh.. i never got your name- and i'm carl grimes by the way!" the boy announced as he noticed the girl turning around and taking her leave.

she knows your name already damnit carl.

"i know!" was all she replied with.

carl stopped for a moment, before realizing he should catch up to her. his people weren't actually gonna kill hers. they would never. "wait!" he called out, hoping to grasp her attention. in some world, maybe he did get her attention. but in this one? she kept walking.

pausing slightly, carl studied how the teen moved as she walked. her jeans clung tightly to her body, yet hung low as if baggy. and her crop-top seemed to be nearly too cropped as well, riding up against her skin as she walked. oh, she knew what she was doing.

god, she really was mesmerizing.

edgar woe.begone: low empathy, high masking

THESIS: my reading of edgar woe.begone is that he's a low empathy autistic who has no innate intuition for social cues and has had to teach himself everything about social interaction from scratch, which is an interpretation that i think explains a lot about him.

now, i am very critical of edgar as a person. i think he's a less than good person and a bad boyfriend. but let me be VERY clear right off the bat: these symptoms don't make anyone a bad person. these symptoms aren't even bad per se. theyre all disabling symptoms that make social interaction more difficult for the person who has them. like any symptom, they have to be managed and compensated for.

some people under the neurodivergent/mentally ill umbrella, as with any group of people, are bad people. being a bad person flavors one's approach to their mental illness, and mental illness in turn flavors the manner in which they're a bad person. the mental illness isn't what makes you bad, but it does affect how your shittiness manifests.

disclaimers done, a good place to start is the way edgar speaks, especially with jeremy's performance. edgar always sounds very reasonable, approachable, and agreeable, and there is never an ounce of genuine emotion in his voice. he talks like an autistic person with zero innate intuition for social interaction who has taught himself to speak in the way that he's learned will get the best response.

edgar's customer service voice is the only one we hear and likely the only one he uses if he can help it. we know edgar's a tactician, a persuader. why use any other voice than the one he's carefully fine-tuned to make people like him and be receptive to what he's saying? this isn't even necessarily cynical: what do you want him to do, talk in a more uncontrolled, emotional way--that he's not used to managing--that will make people like him less?? what good would that do?

edgar likes control. he's more comfortable when things are in his hands, and only his. propagation definitely factors in here--if [link: my theory] that propagation is what solidified the certainty of edgar's death is true, it's no wonder he wants to control and limit the spread of information. edgar prefers to be in charge of making the plans, ideally alone.

this is part of why mike is perpetually out of the loop, even regarding decisions that concern him--which is pretty damn paternalistic. but there's a more wholesome aspect as well: edgar genuinely thinks he's doing mike a favor.

edgar knows mike has undergone and is undergoing a lot, and that he's terrible with plans and a major blabbermouth. if edgar can take care of a problem without mike having to worry his pretty head and perfect eyebrows about what to do, without knowing it ever existed, isn't that so much better? that's edgar being a good boyfriend, actually. he's helping!

it probably doesn't even occur to edgar how much this limits mike's agency, how much it hurts mike that edgar refuses to let him in, how this puts them on unequal footing, how fucking patronizing it is to not let your boyfriend make his own decisions about his own life. oh, how the tables have tabled since him originally telling mike that keeping the story of woe.begone from him didn't protect him, it impeded his ability to make informed choices.

here's where the low empathy creates problems--edgar doesn't have that innate intuition for how mike's feeling, and he doesn't (effectively) manage or compensate for it, and he definitely doesn't communicate with mike enough to know how he's affected by this shit (avoiding too much information sharing is good, remember?)

and mike certainly isn't going to tell him! mike is a goddamn simp. he's not going to establish boundaries. he's not going to put his foot down and demand better treatment. as if he fucking deserves that in the first place, pshaw. the only time he pushes back is in season 10 when he doesn't remember their relationship, and edgar is deeply shaken.

edgar is devastated to learn he hurt mikey, because he does genuinely adore that man. he would get lasso lessons from michael and rope him the moon if he could. his low empathy and efforts to manage everything himself keep him from realizing that mikey, a hyperempathetic mess who gets sentimental about pens, seriously suffers from being shut out like this.

edgar's thought process must be equally inscrutable to mikey, who just figures it would be asking too much to be an active and equal participant in his own relationship and life. edgar's perfect and great, so if mikey deserved that, he would already be giving it to him. if mikey's unhappy with any part of their relationship, no he isn't. he's lucky he has edgar at all. he's lucky he has anyone.

recall michael's agonized admission that "everything is about rugby, dammit" 10(++++) years and edgar's literal death later. we can only guess at how bad his rugby was, but we do know michael never talked it through with edgar. he tells mike this was him 'letting it go' actually, when the fact that theyre having this conversation at all is proof that he extremely hasn't. this is what 'letting it go' looks like to michael: burying an issue forever and giving up on ever getting closure.

so yes, edgar does authentically deeply love his mikey-bear. unfortunately, if you never establish the communication to bridge the differences between your own methods of operating and that of your partner, love will only get you so far. and the first time around, where it got them was michael fighting back tears in an apartment in latvia over a wound from edgar that he suffered in silence until the day he died.

Pea Brained Bounce House time. Was thinking about the earlier Mikey bit. Then I started thinking about Warm Coded. And then:

Raph’s got like. This thing, when you’re working out with him. He uses the cover of coaching you to stare.

It’s not until he’s got you doing chairs against the concrete wall, and you look up in pleading askance on how much longer you’ve gotta hold the position, that you finally catch the way his attention is trained on the swell of your stomach. This is a 2012 fic exploring the aftermath of Tokka Vs The Earth at the end of Season 4, the part where Michelangelo gets captured by government scientists and experimented on, which broke the number one rule of never get caught. Splinter cries. Everybody cries. I cried. Mikey will never completely recover. Life has forever changed. The acknowledgement the Mikey Fandom desperately needed. And right before Splinter dies forever!

Also, Mikey and Casey are dating and the shenanigans in the previous chapter are hilarious. It's why this chapter goes extra hard.

I'm gonna me honest when I first got this request I was at such a loss for what to write, but then the idea to have Raph and Splinter have a heart to heart came to mind and I just 🫢

TMNT 2012

Fluff! Comfort

Platonic family stuff (none of that nasty fam shipping)

Warnings: mentions of vomit and throwing up, slight angst

Raph comes down with a stomach bug and his family does everything they can to help him.

It was Mikey's fault.

How? I don't know.

But after waking up in the middle of the night to hurl his guts out in the toilet, Raph figured that one way or another, it was Mikey's fault.

That morning he wasn't feeling any better but he'd rather go to morning training with a broken leg then miss something important. How else was he supposed to stay better than Leo?

And that mindset, is what leads us to the current moment. Leo standing in front of Raph, ready to fight, while he pukes onto the floor. Splinter immediately stopped the lesson to check on him, while Donnie froze, Mikey gagged, and Leo asked Raph if he was okay.

"My son! Raphael, what happened?" Splinter asked. Raph however could not answer. Even though he was no longer vomiting he couldn't stop gagging. Eventually, he was able to stop but it took a second.

"I-I'm fine sensei. I can continue."

"No."

"Sensei, I swear I'm okay!"

"You may be okay, but the mats are not. Go rest. Donatello, Michelangelo, go get cleaning supplies to help me with this mess. Leonardo, make sure Raphael gets to bed."

"Aw sensei, do we really have to clean that up?" Complained Donnie.

"Yeah that straight up nasty dude." Mikey agreed.

"Would you rather take your brother to sleep?"

The pair looked over to Leo and Raph as they fought. Raph getting violent trying to keep Leo off him even to the point of using his sais. While Leo was trying to push him out of the dojo and convince him that a little rest wouldn't kill him. At that moment a chill ran up Raph's spine and he chucked up a little bit more of his breakfast onto Leo's foot.

"I'll go get the disinfectant." Donnie stated and Mikey followed after him.

After everyone finished with their respective chores Donnie talked to Raph to get a synopsis on his symptoms. Though he couldn't call them symptoms because that would imply Raph was sick.

And Raph never gets sick. (🙄)

Afterward Donnie shuffled to his lab while doing some research on his computer to start on some medicine for Raph.

Splinter was in the kitchen making Raph some rice porridge. It was light on the stomach with a mild taste so Splinter hoped he would be able to keep it down.

Mean while Leo was trying to keep Mikey out of Raph's room so he could sleep. Mikey insisted the best way to get better was for a bro to read you comics till the awesomeness of the characters scared the sickness away.

"No."

"Awwwwwww come onnnn Leo! It's what he needs dude!"

"What he needs is sleep, if you really want to help go help Splinter make him food or Donnie with the medicine."

Was it a good idea? Maybe not, but at least it would stall Mikey for a little bit.

"I can't sleep if you all are YELLING OUTSIDE MY ROOM!" Raph shouted. And with that Leo was dragging Mikey away from Raph's door in the direction of the Living room. At that moment Splinter was walking towards them with a bowl in hand.

"My sons, how is he feeling?"

"He being moody, so that's good at least." Answered Mikey. This earned him a light smack on the head from Leo.

"I got him to bed but I don't think he's asleep yet." Leo finally spoke, giving an actual answer.

"I see." Was all Splinter said before continuing in the direction of his sick son. Upon entering his room he found Raph not resting but rather sitting on the side of his bed, lights on, fiddling with his sais. Raph looked towards the door with an unhappy expression as Splinter entered.

"You should be resting."

"I told you I'm fine."

"Someone who is 'Fine' would not vomit for no reason." as Splinter said this, he sat the porridge on his desk table while he took a seat on the rolly chair across from Raph.

"It was probably Mikey's breakfast or something." Raph stated a tad agitated.

"Oh? None of you brothers seemed to suffer from the same issue. Did Michelangelo not make them the same breakfast?"

"I DON'T KNOW MAYBE HE USED ROTTEN CRAP IN MINE!"

"Why would your brother do that?"

Raph didn't respond to this. He looked away mearly shrugged. Deep down he knew it was ridiculous, to blame Mikey, but this whole situation just felt so dumb. He hated being treated like he was weak. He hated all this attention. Did he want Splinter's attention? DUH! But not like this. He wanted the attention he gave to Leo. To be treated like he was understood. Like he was enough. Like his flaws didn't matter in the face of all his strengths. But no. No matter how hard he worked the only time Splinter treated him like he mattered is when he's a problem. Is when is need to be fixed.

"Raphael, why are you so reluctant to admit you are sick?"

"..."

"My son, everyone gets sick. It is nothing to be ashamed of."

"Easy for you to say." Raph said, not meaning to speak that out loud.

"And why would you say that?"

"Uuuuuuh..."

"Raphael, I cannot understand how you are feeling if you never tell me."

Raph scoffed, "I have told you. I've told you over and over. But it's always the same. Control you anger Raph, it's self destructive, it hurts you and everyone around you. GREAT! Who new that the best way to CONTROL YOUR ANGER WAS TO JUST CONTROL IT! WHY DIDN'T I THINK OF THAT! But ohhhhhhhh because I don't know how to control my self like Mr. Perfect fearless leader Leo I'm just a mess. I'M 'TEMPERAMENTAL' AND 'MOODY' AND 'IMMATURE'. SORRY?! YOU ALWAYS TELL ME TO CONTROL MY ANGER, BUT HOW!?! DO YOU EVEN KNOW WHAT IT FEELS LIKE TO FEEL LIKE EVERYTHING IN YOU IS JUST BUBBLING BELOW THE SURFACE?! ITS LIKE WRAPPING A WATER BALLOON IN TISSUE PAPER! DOES THE TISSUE PAPER COVER IT? YEAH! BUT ALL IT TAKES IS ONE NEEDLE AND IT DOESN'T MATTER HOW MANY LAYERS OF PAPER YOU HAVE IT WONT MATTER CUZ THE BALLOON WILL STILL BURST AND EVERYONE WILL GET WET AND IT'LL BE ALL YOUR FAULT EVEN THOUGH YOU TRIED TO COVER THE BALLOON BUT ALL YOU WERE GIVEN WAS FRICKIN TISSUE PAPER! AND IT'S NOT LIKE YOU MEANT TO POP THE BALLOON BUT SOMEONE SHOVED A NEEDLE ON YOUR HAND AND KEPT YELLING AT YOU TO POP IT EVEN THOUGH YOU DON'T WANT TO BUT THEY KEEP YELLING AT YOU TILL YOU JUST DO IT JIST SO THEY'LL SHUT IT BUT NOW EVERYONE HATES YOU AND YOU HAVE TO KEEP DOING IT ALL OVER AGAIN OVER AND OVER BECAUSE FOR SOME REASON EVERYONE HATES WATER!

Raph huffed to catch his breath but he wasn't done.

"I know I'm not your favorite. but being sick just makes it more apparent that the only time I am a priority is when I do something wrong."

"My son..." Splinter was at a loss. He hasn't realized just how much weight Raph was carrying hand how his treatment of his brothers in comparison him had effected him.

"I am sorry."

"W-what?"

"I have always done what I believe would be best in order to raise you and your brothers. However I had not realized how greatly you were struggling and how my response to your struggle had effected you emotionally. You are not a burden Raphael. You are my son, my family, and I love you. I am sorry that I made you feel less important that you brothers and I'm sorry if my actions made it seem as though I favor Leonardo over you. I have always been proud of your skill and impressed by the speed of your progression. That is why I pushed you so hard in regards to your anger, as I could see how it was holding you back from tapping the true potential I see in you. From now on a will make a better effort to understand your needs so we can work on your struggles together."

Raph was speechless. He genuinely believed that Splinter didn't care about him as much as he did Leo or the others. He had waited for so long for someone or something to prove him wrong, and he was so happy it finally happened. As Splinter embraced his son Raph began to cry. He cried hard and afterwards he felt refreshed. He felt lighter now that his mind was clear and he had finally said all that he's always wanted to.

"I think I'm ready to rest now sensei."

"Good. Sleep well my son."

I'm not gonna lie, getting an idea for this one was hard and I avoided it for so long😭 but once I got it rolling I'm actually kinda happy with how it turned out.😍
