Last night me and my friends were talking about midnight mass (cus one friend is watching it for the first time with her bf whose watched it before and I’m also rewatching it rn) and almost all of us were raised catholic and were talking about how the mass parts of the show are like, comforting or just familiar/nostalgic cus of our childhoods, but the one friend whose watching it for the first time is Greek Orthodox and was just like ‘what the fuck is going on in that service??? Why does your communion look like a necco waffer??”

Speaking as a Catholic kid who asked the cannibalism question because she was a smartass, it's literally God's Body and Blood. When it's blessed a miracle occurs and the waffers and wine become body and blood. The work around i've heard is that it's 1. Freely Given by God and 2. Not technically human in the same way? But yes, in most Christan churches it's symbolic; Catholics are just Extra like that

Thanks for chiming in! Though I was baptized Presbyterian I went to Catholic school for a number of years. I was always banished to the side pews during mass, but half of my family is Catholic and I’ve been to a zillion services during my day, from midnight Christmas masses to Funerals to Confirmations and Baptisms. The ritual and aesthetic of it all has always been pretty enjoyable to me.

Anyway, I only mentioned it really as an example of the kind of rather extreme practise that followers don’t really realise is extreme, and just kind of do without thinking about it. The Gefendur religion does literally have cannibalism in it but no one really thinks about it much. No one uses the C-word. The sacrifices are willing and admired, it’s considered beneficial to the fortunes of Kasslyne and it keeps the gods happy. No one questions it.

As I'm working on a drawing I've realized something that might be seeming as controversial that I'd like to address. I know midnight waffers might never be popular but this is too its current fans. Fe aka the character above is autistic but his voice actor is not. Infact, the only autistic member on our team is crazy clown. His voice actor not the character. The reason this is is because sadly I don't have much funding to make the show so I have to ask friends and family to do the voice acting. Therefore I base the people I choose to voice, through their voice not who they are. If this is to be considered wrong then please let me know and I shall try my best to fix it. But as I've said I really don't have the funding. I'm just to bring creation I've dropped up for a while now alive and the best way I can, which in like a year or so will be animation. But from time to time I might give you some voice acted segments of drawings or comics. (speaking of which one might be incoming soon~) This in my opinion is not so bad but I just wanted to point it out in case it is. If anyone with autism or anyone with friends of people who have autism would like to reach out I am free most of the time besides school. Once again if this is wrong I thoroughly apologize and I would try my best to fix it. By the way another thing sorry if any of the grammars or spelling is wrong I'm using a voice to text.
