Wei Wuxian licks his lips and leans forward slightly, walking his fingers across the countertop aimlessly toward Lan Zhan. “You know, Lan Zhan,” he drawls, “A-Yuan says we’re both in the book.”
“Mn,” Lan Zhan responds, tracking the path of his fingers intently, “I am apparently Hanguang-jun, the moral upstanding hero.”
“And I’m the devious Yiling Loazu, who led you astray,” he smirks, peering at Lan Zhan through his lashes.
Lan Zhan meets his stare, head-on, lit from within like molten sunshine. “No,” he corrects, “not astray, Wei Ying.”
Wei Wuxian tilts his head, waiting for him to continue. His fingers stop their dancing, resting just inches away from Lan Zhan.
Lan Zhan shifts his own hand, bringing them even closer, their fingertips almost brushing.
“The Yiling Loazu did not lead Hanguang-jun astray,” he says, eyes piercing as they flicker between Wei Wuxian’s. “They were partners, and…”
“Ah,” Wei Wuxian breathes, “the decent romance?”
Lan Zhan doesn’t answer, watching him closely. The pupils of his eyes have grown so large there’s only the tiniest ring of gold around the edge. He can see himself reflected in the black. He thinks he likes the version of himself that lives in Lan Zhan’s eyes.
They’re standing on the edge of a cliff, waiting for the other to take a step forward, bracing for a fall.
It should be terrifying, this sudden drop into something completely new, something entirely unknown yet so familiar. But Wei Wuxian is filled with conviction that no matter what, Lan Zhan will catch him.
It's as electrifying as it is calming, this certainty that here, with Lan Zhan, he is safe.
Wei Wuxian tilts his head to the side in a way he knows sets the unmarked skin of his neck on display. “I’m sure it was more than just decent, with a handsome hero like Hanguang-jun.”
Lan Zhan quirks an eyebrow, his gaze resting on the curve of Wei Wuxian’s neck, just as he’d hoped. "Handsome?"
“Well,” Wei Wuxian responds, tapping his index finger so it brushes against Lan Zhan’s fingertips. His skin is soft and perfect, just like the rest of him. “He isn’t wrong. You’re very handsome, Lan Zhan.”
“Really, Wei Ying?” Lan Zhan says, voice quiet and deep.
“Yep, definitely worthy of being compared to the beautiful Second Jade of Lan.”
“Is that so?” Lan Zhan shifts closer, the smell of him filling up Wei Wuxian. He smells so familiar, like something he knows intimately. Sandalwood, Wei Wuxian realizes, with sudden clarity.
Lan Zhan continues, “I would love to hear more about your opinion on my beauty and prestige, Wei Ying.”
“You don’t know anything about me, Lan Zhan. Why would you care what I think?”
Lan Zhan tilts his head, only just. “Do I need to? To want to know how your brain works?”
I commissioned this lovely artwork by the wonderful @lotuslate of a scene from my fic, once upon a time, 很久很久以前 where the entire cultivation world is cursed to live in the modern world without their memories and abilities, but of course wangxian find a way to fall in love all over again.

My fanfics:
Once Upon a Time:
Chosen Soulmates: Belle x Zelena, 467 words,
If you had asked Belle how she imagined meeting her soulmate, she would probably say a ball dance or some exciting adventure, (she would never say another world without magic, while working in an antiques shop).
The Untamed:
The Lonely Prince and the Wandering Bard: Xisang, fairy tale AU, 4,8k words,
It is strange, so very strange, to feel alone when one is surrounded by a loud bustling crowd (especially when said crowd assembled in order to celebrate your birthday).
Or just when the crown prince of Lan Kingdom feels sad and lonely, a cute bard falls into the pond in the royal garden.
Scarlet Heart Ryeo:
And Compassion Wins: Hae Soo, Wang Yo (not a shipping fic), crossover with OUAT (but no knowledge of OUAT needed), 2k words
Hae Soo looks at Wang Yo lying on the floor, now just a broken defeated husk of the man he used to be. She clears her throat to get his attention and starts speaking. "If…If you could get another chance at life, in a place where you wouldn't be dependent on the opinions of others, where you wouldn't have to constantly fight for survival, where you could live - not just survive -, in a place where you could be free, truly free, would you be interested?" There is a silence for a heartbeat. And two. And three. Just when Hae Soo thinks that he didn't understand, a horrible sound rips itself out of his lips and Wang Yo starts laughing.
Princess Agents:
Withering Echo (of the man you used to be: Yan Xun, retelling of Yan Xun’s life + headcannons, 1,5k words
Yan Xun is five years old when his father stands in front of him and his two older brothers and with a grim expression on his face announces that The Great Wei demands a hostage. His brothers exchange horrified looks and choose to stare at the ground. But Yan Xun is a child who loves his family more than anything, and who can't bear to see his father so sad. And so he grins, raises his hand and his eyes reassuringly sparkle at his father.
Scum Villain’s Self-saving system:
Transmigrated into a Stallion Novel!: OC x Sha Hualing, Transmigrated Qin Wanyue, 364 words
Qin Wanyue has been acting…strange to say the least for the past month or so. Not that Sha Hualing can complain; in the past that golden snake was always scheming and plotting against not just Sha Hualing but everyone in the harem. But ever since she got hit in the head and lost her memory (no one in the harem believed her at first, thinking this was another one of her tricks: playing weak and pitiful while planning how to drive a dagger in your back) she has transformed from cold and vicious viper into a warm and cheerful puppy.

once upon a time, 很久很久以前
Once upon a time, there lived a magical boy who was lost far, far away from home… Wei Wuxian is perfectly ready to celebrate another mediocre birthday alone when a ten-year-old shows up on his doorstep claiming to be his son. This kid is convinced everyone in his town has been dragged away from their xianxia world and cursed to live as ordinary citizens in a mundane small town, and he's certain that Wei Wuxian is the key to saving them, his other dad, and their entire world. He sounds insane, but, well, Wei Wuxian likes him. Besides, what else can he do but follow him back home? (A Wangxian AU based on the show Once Upon a Time, no prior knowledge of said show necessary)

Once upon a time, there was a boy who believed he loved the world more than it could ever love him.
He would be proven very wrong.
~
Everyone loves the birthday boy.
They especially love him several shots in on Halloween night, wearing an outfit that’s little more than a couple scraps of fabric hastily sewn together in some approximation of a “Sexy Whatever”. Privately, Wei Wuxian calls it Dealer’s Choice, letting whoever he’s currently flirting with decide what it is.
It doesn’t matter; that’s never been the point of the night. Sure a birthday is meant to be spent celebrating, but that’s a bit harder to do when he doesn’t have anyone to celebrate with. It would be fine, as long as he could have as many free drinks as he could score and at least a passably decent fuck, he’d consider it a good night.
Really, when it comes down to it, it’s just another day. Halloween, yes, which makes it a moderately better one. But beyond that bit of fun that comes with picking up a pretty stranger at a bar, there really isn’t much else to look forward to. This is how Wei Wuxian expects to celebrate his birthday:
He’d saunter into how ever many establishments it takes until he finds a pretty enough stranger he can stand being around. The pretty stranger would look him up and down, dragging their eyes over his toned long legs and resting far too long at the slope between his narrow waist and wide hips. And for that one moment, he’d be the most important boy in the world.
He’d get a few free cheap drinks and eventually, they’d find their way to some back alley with its familiar stench of overripe garbage and piss. He’d let himself be pressed up against the brick wall, rough against his back; the perfect distraction from everything else. Then the pretty stranger would stick their tongue far enough down his throat so that he could pretend this day is just like any other.
In between sloppy kisses and sub-par groping attempts, they’d get his name wrong while he’d have already forgotten theirs. They’d mutter a “Happy Halloween, Birthday Boy” like so many one-night stands before them, and he’d giggle and laugh like it’s the very first time. It’s never difficult to plaster a patented smile and play pretend. Then he’d drop to his knees and let the world fall away.
Finally, after however many drinks and strangers it would take to make him forget, he’d stumble back to his basement studio with just enough awareness to take off his shoes before passing out on his secondhand stained mattress. His dreams would be fast and incomprehensible, a mosaic of imaginary maybes and a dream of a life he’d never had.
This is how he’s celebrated the last several years, and it’s how he expects to celebrate this year as well.
Because it’s not just Halloween and it’s not just his birthday. It’s the anniversary of his parents leaving their son behind in a dingy alley, wedged between a dumpster and a pile of soggy cardboard. Not even the barest hint of an afterthought, like maybe we shouldn’t leave this small defenseless child asleep and at the mercy of sewer rats?
But if the liquor is strong enough and the haze is just right he wouldn’t remember that until the next morning. That’s what the night is really for. Not a celebration or anything like that, but a desperate attempt at some peace away from this life of his.
Tonight will be his twenty-fifth birthday, and it might as well not be at all.
And then it will end, and November 1st will come around, and the world will keep turning like it always does.
But somehow, not one of those things goes according to plan. In fact, the universe has a completely different plan for him this year, it seems.

Chapter Summary
“That still doesn't explain what I have to do with it. Why am I the only one who can help?” “I told you,” A-Yuan presses, “You’re the Yiling Laozu! If anyone knows what to do, it’s you!” Wei Wuxian scoffs, “The evil-looking dude? Yeah, you mentioned, but again, what does it have to do with me?” His face twists indignantly. “And, hey, it’s not nice to tell someone they look like an evil guy, you know.” “He’s not evil!” “He had spooky shadow tentacles and stood on literal human bones." -- Wei Wuxian gets some answers about this strange little town, only to be left with even more riddles and a desire to solve them all.

Wei Wuxian slumps against the door, rattling the silver bell above. The back of his head smacks against the wood. He hardly notices the soreness radiating from his bump from yesterday.
Fingers press against his cheeks. So hot. Burning.
He hopes he didn’t sweat through his sweater, that would have been embarrassing. What would Lan Zhan have thought if he’d seen sweaty pit stains? Lan Zhan is probably the kind of Asian that just never sweats, ever.
Lan Zhan.
Lan Zhan Lan Zhan Lan Zhan.
Lan Zhan.
Wei Wuxian slaps his cheeks. He needs to calm down. He needs to remember how breathing works. Or what legs that aren’t jelly feel like.
A throat clears from the dining room. Popo watches him from where she stands in the doorway leading into the kitchen, hands covered in flour and brows raised so high up they disappear into her silver fringe.
“Everything alright there?” she asks in a tone that says she knows everything is not alright, thank you.
“Popo,” Wei Wuxian replies, breathless despite his chest lifting up and down like he just ran a marathon. “I did it. I fixed it.”
Somehow, her raised brows turn more unimpressed as Popo slow claps three times. Flour sifts through the air around her like falling snow, crystals catching in her hair. Wei Wuxian is starting to wonder if her hair is really grey or if she’s just always covered in a layer of flour.
“Congrats. Come help me in the kitchen when you’re making sense again,” she says. She shakes her head and returns to the kitchen, leaving Wei Wuxian heaving by the entrance.
Which is just dandy because a series of hysterical, sharp giggles burst from his mouth. It sounds a little bit like a hyena dying. Like a lot of hyenas dying.
Sweat sticks to the back of his neck, trickling under his sweater. Did Popo crank up the heat? Why does it feel like a million degrees right now?
Wei Wuxian lets out another high-pitched sound that could be either a laugh or a wail. He bolts from the entryway, up the stairs, and into his room.
Popo is right. He really needs to calm down. He just…doesn’t know if he can, yet.

Chapter Summary
Lan Wangji spent the last few years honing his morning routine into an efficiently precise art form. Everything had gone exactly according to plan, executed perfectly, as befitting a proper Lan. Except this past weekend was a significant deviation from all of that. This past weekend he’d lost and found his son, and found and lost Wei Ying. Suddenly, Lan Wangji’s carefully cultivated morning routine disappears into smoke and ash. -- Lan Wangji is still reeling from his disastrous encounter with the strangely familiar Wei Ying, but perhaps fate's design will offer him a second chance.

This past weekend he’d lost and found his son, and found and lost Wei Ying.
Suddenly, Lan Wangji’s carefully cultivated morning routine disappears into smoke and ash.
Monday morning, he begins his day by oversleeping and missing his natural wake-up time by twenty minutes. He, for the first time ever, groggily rolls out of bed, searching fruitlessly for his phone which he normally keeps on the dresser on the far side of the room. He finds it buried amongst the sheets in which he’d spent the night before tossing and turning as he'd checked his email and messages again and again.
He commits mistake after mistake as he hastily tries to fix his bed, ruining creases that had been strategically embedded into the sheets by years of habit. He finds himself growing increasingly agitated, breath huffing in almost a growl. At last, Lan Wangji surrenders and stumbles into the bathroom, leaving the red fleece blanket he’d bought yesterday spontaneously in a messy pile at the center of the bed.
His morning meditation is useless and he ends it after five minutes where an endless chorus of Lan Zhan! sings inside his head. He puts his sneakers on left foot first instead of right, nearly tripping over them, and even inputs the wrong code for the security system three times before finally arming it.
He misses a turn on his run and ends up taking a different route around the lake that requires Lan Wangji to double back along the beach. He grits his teeth as his sneakers collect enough coarse sand to construct a sandpit in his backyard.
When Lan Wangji at last arrives back home, he immediately enters the kitchen and downs a glass of water in a single gulp. The glass nearly shatters when he slams it onto the counter, out of breath and feeling even more disconcerted than he did when he woke up.
Then, he stares at the spot where Wei Ying had been sitting just twenty-four hours ago. The stool he’d perched on, limbs akimbo like he’d never sat properly at any point in his life. The countertop Wei Ying had leaned on, inching further into Lan Wangji’s space, brown eyes teasing.
He remembers the way Wei Ying had chewed on his bottom lip when he was thinking, how entranced Lan Wangji had been by the freckle under that lip. How every time Wei Ying would gnaw on its dry skin, Lan Wangji had found himself torn between offering him chapstick or biting those lips himself.
How he wouldn’t have even needed that excuse, how close they’d come to him being able to act on his every desire with Wei Ying’s enthusiastic consent…

Chapter Summary
Wei Wuxian is pursing his lips at the uncomfortable feeling of a thermometer in his ear when Wen Qing finally asks, “So, Wei Wuxian, why did Wanyin bring you here?” He pouts and says in his most affected voice, “Bunnies.” Wen Qing blinks at him, mouth set in a thin line, and clicks her pen viciously until Jiang Cheng rolls his eyes before correcting, “The idiot crashed his car into a ditch because he saw a bunny.” Wei Wuxian sputters with offense. Wei Wuxian meets some strange and interesting townspeople, including a grumpy sheriff, a stern doctor, a struggling artist, a flighty teacher, a reluctant diner owner, a mysterious CEO, and more. At least he won't be bored while stuck here.

a hop, skip, and a jump to you
Something about Wei Ying feeling safe in a place Lan Zhan regards as his own makes him flush, and his bunny ears turn pink again. But strangely, when Wei Ying gasps at the sight and reaches one of his hands over to run a gentle finger across the edge of one, Lan Zhan doesn’t feel embarrassed or ashamed by his ears at all. He feels something else entirely, something he doesn’t know what to call. Something equal parts terrifying as it is extraordinary, like the warmth from his mama’s hugs or praise from his brother. But more, somehow, and all thanks to Wei Ying. Just two soft magical bunny boys being soft together

The back hills behind Cloud Recesses are a place for tranquility and rest. When cool mountain air kisses the soft blades of bright green grass and the sound of leaves rustling like wind chimes, one can feel at total and absolute peace. With only woodland animals for company, friendly white rabbits hopping around and squirrels darting from one tree to the next with their hauls, it’s Lan Zhan’s favorite place in the world and his most prized secret. A space away from the pressures of being a Gusu Lan heir. Away from all the near-constant staring and placing of expectations on his still small shoulders.
It’s a place for Lan Zhan to let himself rest and think, to be free to fail in the one thing he shouldn’t be failing in. But at least, here, no one will judge him for those failures.
All witches are born with a hybrid form that they must learn to control by age ten. At that time, they’re given their formal witch's name and may join the coven officially as a fully-fledged witch. It’s the goal of every young witch and the Gusu Lan pride themselves in teaching exemplary witches year after year.
But this year, Lan Zhan is afraid he will become the black spot on the otherwise perfectly pristine record.
Because Lan Zhan is nine and a half, his naming ceremony is only a few short months away, and he still can't control his large white bunny ears in his hybrid form. The rest of his bunny traits had been easy to control. He’d learned to suppress his hopping instincts and figured out how to tuck his fluffy cottontail away on the first try. Even his stubborn whiskers had receded after a few hours of diligent practice.
But for some reason, Lan Zhan hasn’t been able to manage his ears, and they continue to torment him with their perpetual floppy nature.
And if he can’t control his ears, then he will disappoint his family and his entire clan. He’ll never be the witch he’s spent his entire life working towards.
Today, his usually outgoing and curious critter friends give him a wide berth, as if they know Lan Zhan is not in the mood for pets and cuddles. Instead, he kneels in the soft grass with only the gentle wind for company, along with his unkind thoughts and his vexing bunny ears that are the root of all this mess.
They're big and unseeming, and Lan Zhan has always been embarrassed by the way his ears give away his feelings no matter how hard he works to keep his emotions regulated and controlled. It doesn’t help that as the only rabbit hybrid in all of Cloud Recesses, he is constantly the victim of teasing by the elders and older witches. Even Ge enjoys tugging on his ears, cooing at how “fluffy and adorable” they are, and taking obvious delight when their tips turn red.
It makes Lan Zhan puff up with anger and pout. He’s almost ten years old! He’s not a little baby bunny anymore, why won’t the others see that?
He knows it’s in part because of the rarity of his species. Rabbits aren't common hybrids, and he's the only one in the family since his mother passed away. It also means that he has to learn the complexities of shapeshifting and form control on his own, spending hours studying ancient text after ancient text in the library while his peers attend more practical classes.
Even his brother, an elegant snow-white crane, learned how to control his form at only seven years old! The elders were sure that with Lan Zhan’s talent in all other magicks, he would follow in his older brother’s footsteps as a child prodigy worthy of the title of Second Jade of Lan.
Except, clearly their hopes were misplaced, and Lan Zhan is going to be the first Lan heir in over a century to never learn how to control his hybrid form.
But he cannot let himself fail, so every day after his midday meal, he heads to the back hills to practice in quiet seclusion. He goes through a series of meditations designed to allow one to focus on their internal structures and self-regulation. He follows every step perfectly, exactly as the manual states, including envisioning his long fluffy white ears changing form into something more human-like.
He casts the spell, following the instructions he’s gathered exactly and precisely...but for the fifth time that day, nothing happens. He lifts his head and sees his bunny ears flopping mercilessly in his periphery, the same as they ever were and seem to always be.
Water wells up in his eyes and it takes every ounce of self-control he has left to hold them back from falling. Tears not filled with sadness but with immense frustration and anger towards himself. Lan Zhan is at the top of everything! The best in his class, an accomplished musician, and a talented student. He can perform spells older students still struggle with. He’s even been scouted to teach the younger fledgling students once he becomes a proper witch.
But, how can he, when this one spell keeps holding him back? Why is this one spell so impossible for him?
His ears droop down and Lan Zhan uses them along with the curtain of his long hair to block out the rest of the world, focusing on the ground he's sitting on. He wishes desperately that he wasn’t so alone, that he had anyone else to talk to. He takes his emotions out on the grass, heedless of the Gusu Lan precepts to Be kind to all that is living, and starts ripping up the grass in front of him. He’ll punish himself later, but for now, this is all he can do to keep from letting his tears fall.
But then, another child’s voice calls, "Hey! Don't do that, you're hurting it!"

Chapter Summary
Wei Wuxian licks his lips and leans forward slightly, walking his fingers across the countertop aimlessly toward Lan Zhan. “You know, Lan Zhan,” he drawls, “A-Yuan says we’re both in the book.” “Mn,” Lan Zhan responds, tracking the path of his fingers intently, “I am apparently Hanguang-jun, the moral upstanding hero.” “And I’m the devious Yiling Loazu, who led you astray,” he smirks, peering at Lan Zhan through his lashes. Lan Zhan meets his stare, head-on, lit from within like molten sunshine. “No,” he corrects, “not astray, Wei Ying.” Wei Wuxian tilts his head, waiting for him to continue. “They were partners, and…” “Ah,” Wei Wuxian breathes, “the decent romance?” Wei Wuxian finally meets A-Yuan's dad, and gosh, how strange, he feels so connected to this man he's definitely never met before...

Excerpt of chapter 3 my fic for WIP Wednesday!
“Oh,” Wei Wuxian starts, the fry he swallows feeling like lead. “Uh, just um, me, Jiang Cheng, and then A-Yuan and Lan Zhan—” Mianmian and Mo Xuanyu let out synchronized, surprised gasps, gawking at Wei Wuxian. He fidgets with a plastic straw under their unwanted attention, already regretting bringing this up. “Lan Zhan? Do you mean Lan Wangji? You met Lan Wangji?” Mianmian asks incredulously. “And he let you call him Lan Zhan???” Mo Xuanyu pipes up, practically vibrating out of his chair as he leans toward Wei Wuxian. Wei Wuxian coughs, clearing his throat and leaning away as if he could lean far enough to escape this. “Yeah,” he says, wishing they were talking about literally anything else. He’s not even sure if he can bring up the whole “his-child-ran-away-to-find-me-and-thinks-I'm-his-dad-but-I'm-not-so-I-had-to-bring-him-back” thing. Are there rules for this? “I, uh, was visiting. We had breakfast this morning and chatted. It just came up, I guess.” It takes every ounce of energy left in him to not think about anything else involving their little “chat” this morning and he hurriedly stuffs another fry in his mouth. Unfortunately, his companions are even more interested now. “You chatted? Over breakfast??” Mianmian prods, looking at Wei Wuxian as if he’s primetime entertainment. Mo Xuanyu has forgotten completely about personal space as he kneels up on his stool to get a better view of Wei Wuxian trying to burrow into himself. “What was it like? What did you eat? What was he wearing? The soft blue sweater? Or that shirt with the ribbon? Did you spend the night? Did he invite you over? Can you bring me next time? How sexy was his morning voice?” Wei Wuxian chokes on his fry and coughs violently, reaching for a glass of water and time to think of something to say that doesn’t involve thinking about any of…all of that.

Background Info about OUAT for my MDZS fic
So I recognize not everyone has seen Once Upon a Time so this fic and premise might be a bit confusing. I wanted to make a short notes/guide in case people might be curious about the premise of the show and how it will fit into my fic specifically.
You can read the fic itself here on Ao3
Once Upon a Time is a show where characters from various western fairytales get cursed to live in modern day Maine. The hero is Emma, who is the daughter of Snow White and Prince Charming but was separated from them as a baby when the curse hit. She grew up in the real world and suffered the perils of foster care and other not fun realities, so by the time we meet her she's almost 30 and pretty jaded. Then, the son she gave up for adoption ten years ago finds her on her birthday. He says he's her son, Henry, and that she needs to follow him back to his hometown, to lift the curse set by the evil queen and help bring these fairytale characters back where they belong.
The fun part is, this evil queen, Regina is actually Henry's adoptive mom and the primary antagonist of season 1. And although Emma is skeptical of Henry's claims, she realizes she wants to be his mom after all and get to the bottoms of all the mystery surrounding the town and its odd inhabitants.
There's like so much more involved, like Emma's best friend actually ends up being her mom Snow White, and in one season they go to both Camelot and Hell, and also they play fast and loose with what a fairytale character is because the doctor is Victor Frankenstein. and pretty much everything gets fixed with True Love's Kiss it practically becomes an in-universe meme. The plot gets absolutely unhinged (I mean this with all the love in my heart, I adore this show), but I'm mostly drawing from the first season.
Mostly the bits I took from the show are the whole curse, except here the cultivation world is dragged into some American small town with no memories of where they're from. There are some hints that not everything is as it seems, like all the signs being in Chinese and no one being able to leave/contact the outside world. However, just like in the show, because of the curse the people in the town have no idea anything is wrong, they just believe this is all normal.
The show goes a bit further in that the town has basically been frozen in time while Emma aged 30 years, only unfreezing when she arrives. I decided to do away with that, so in my fic it's been about 5 years since they arrived and everyone aged normally.
Another important thing to remember is all the fairytale characters are basically growing up miserable and cursed with the exception of Regina, the evil queen who set the curse and acts as the mayor of the town. For instance, Snow White and Prince Charming are cursed to be separate as Prince Charming is both under a sleeping curse and engaged to someone else. Basically everything sucks then Emma comes and fixes it. That is something that will also be happening in my fic, and the first few chapters are about establishing the level of suck before we get to mystery involved.
The formatting of the show is also important. Similar to the MDZS novel, each episode features flashbacks to the fairytale land in the past that tells a bit more about the story happening in the present modern day. That's not something I can easily achieve in fic form, so instead at the end of each chapter (hopefully) I am including a once upon a time excerpt meant to tell clues about what happened to lead our characters to where they are. It's canon divergence from the burial mounds, as evidenced by the fact that in the first chapter Lan Wangji and Wei Wuxian are already together in the burial mounds with A-Yuan and the Wens. I'm hoping to give more info at a steady pace, but the intention is to leave the readers as confused as Wei Wuxian and everyone else is.
Otherwise, besides the basic premise and a few easter eggs, the plot and characters in my fic are more true to MDZS and not at all to OUAT. For instance, Regina's role is taken by Lan Wangji but he is absolutely not the one who set the curse and is under it just like the others. There's more, but I won't spoil it.
Some of the bits of fun easter eggs I added were Wei Wuxian's Lilttle Apple Bug, based on Emma's yellow bug that basically becomes a character of its own in the show. Also his red leather jacket is based on hers too. The book A-Yuan shows Wei Wuxian is also based on the fairytale book Henry shows Emma, except I'm picturing it looking more like a more extravagent version of the books in the Cloud Recesses
Tumblr media
I want to add more Easter eggs as we go but my main focus here is on MDZS than the show, but if you catch anything else you get a gold star!!!
Thanks for reading this mess if you did sdjkghd. I think I covered the main bits I wanted to clarify, but if you have any questions dont be afraid to reply or send an ask, or leave a comment on the fic! I'm having so much fun with this AU featuring two of my favorite fandoms, so yay!

Also HELP one of my struggles is starting a chapter so which of these would you most likely want to keep reading?
1. Once upon a time, there was a boy who believed he loved the world more than it could ever love him.
He would be proven very wrong.
OR
2. Once upon a time, there lived a magical boy who was lost far, far away from home…
The one once upon a time, as cliche as it is, is actually an important thematic story element (given its an ouat au after all) im just unsure which I prefer. The other ill probably use in the summary SO
(The fic in question if you are curious)
