have you ever gotten, like, irrationally angry at a thought experiment
specifically at Maxwell's Demon
so, the idea goes as follows: imagine you have two boxes already at their lowest energy state, with maximum entropy. they're full of a lukewarm gas, and there's a door that allows individual molecules to pass through if it's opened.
now, imagine that there's a demon controlling the door, who only allows warm, high-velocity molecules to pass into one box, and only lets cold, low-velocity molecules pass into the other. after enough time, the demon would seperate the lukewarm gas into a box full of hot gas, and a box full of cold gas, reversing the entropy without work, violating the second law of thermodynamics
this
is bullshit
the demon is the source of work in this scenario, it's functionally a heat pump
so how the fuck does this violate the second dynamics? dunno! apparently it was originally conceived with the demon being outside the system? which doesn't make sense since the demon ACTS ON THE SYSTEM
bullshit thought experiment >:{

Nobunaga: Would you be there for me if I was going through something?
Okita: Nope.
Hijikata: Absolutely not.
Kagetora: I hope it sucks, whatever you're going through.
Akechi: I hope it emotionally scars you for the rest of your life.
Maxwell's Demon: I hope you reach out to me so I can ignore you.
Nobukatsu: YES!?!?

Side A, Round 1 (Match 11) *Clash of Casters*
Tumblr media Tumblr media
On the left: The God of Good Fortune, one of the Seven Lucky Gods in Japan. However, it isn’t the proper god that has been summoned into the world as a Servant, but the mice who serve him. Each individual has its own will and personality, but memories can be shared between them. Daikokuten
On the right: Able to negate the second law of thermodynamics, producing a near infinite amount of energy. A fictional demon created by James Clerk Maxwell as a thought experiment, distorted by the desires of people. Maxwell's Demon

Oh no, I did it again.
"The Infernal Combustion Engine is widely regarded as one of the most impactful thaumaturgical devices ever conceived in the history of the world. The underlying principle behind it is a fairly simple one – using the appropriate arcane equations, a small speed demon is summoned, bound, and made to sort pressurised gas particles in a bifurcated chamber by the speed of their movement. Faster-moving, higher-energy particles are collected by the demon into one chamber, where they gather and thus heat the chamber up, whereas slower-moving, lower-energy particles are not permitted to leave the other chamber, thus cooling it down.¹ The temperature-differences between the two chambers can then be harnessed to perform work – and such engines were promptly utilised in powering assorted devices, eventually sparking a small revolution in the field of transportation.
Naturally, concerns have been raised on whether or not the entrapment of demons in such manner was ethical or sustainable. Proponents suggested that being exploited for their labour without reward was fitting punishment for the demons in question, and the good inherent to punishing the wicked thus offsets the decidedly evil act of summoning them to begin with. Those opposed, however, suggested that – beyond two wrongs not making a right – the runoff of inert particles vented into the environment as a waste product may lead to the buildup of a miasma of low-grade evil, which could have dire consequences in the future if kept unchecked. The prevalence of Infernal Combustion Engines in this day and age suggest, above else, that the proponents have much better public relations.
Meanwhile, the man who initially conceived of the device – the famed arch-warlock Maxwell – has refused to weigh in on the discourse as, in his own words, he is not qualified to opine on the ethics of the situation when his sole purpose in creating the damned thing in the first place was to see whether or not he could break the second law of thaumodynamics and actually get away with it.²"
¹ As slower-moving, lower-temperature particles may rapidly decay into an inert state and are generally not desired, and vice versa for the faster-moving, higher-temperature particles, these chambers have come to be referred to as "Malice" and "Bonfire".
² He did, as the Infernal Combustion Engine made it possible for his getaway car to be fast enough.

What is your url a reference to?
So in the days of ye olde internet the name I most often chose for my accounts was maxwellsdemon, a reference to Maxwell's Demon, a thought experiment by the physicist Maxwell about how a magic being could theoretically negate the second law of thermodynamics.
When I joined tumblr the name maxwellsdemon was not available. I choose my name because I identify with the himbo: I too thrive to be kind, stupid and (at least somewhat) strong. And I can magically sort particles by their temperature.

I have a possibly extremely stupid fic prompt. Stick Fate's Maxwell's Demon into Madoka Magica and have Kyubey go into an aneurysm trying to get the potential and nearly complete permanent solution to entropy to work with him and fail every time simply because Maxwell's Femon really doesn't want to go through his Guda Guda event again. Obviously this is an au, but any reality where the little rat bastard gets to suffer is a great one.

can you explain more about the master oc you use? who are they, what's thier deal and do they have wings?

(For a more serious/straightforward explanation, it might be helpful to take a look at MoreThanOne, but we'd rather not get too in-depth with irl matters on this blog. Just consider me your average fan of the game dropped into a funny sandbox, as trying to come up with a more canon-friendly substitution for something so strange and ordinary is too much effort to worry about.)

"..... hm, this shouldn't be possible." @ omi (maxwell is like ??? how the fuck did you summon me)
Summoning servants really wasn't the most pleasant feeling in the world. One would think that she'd gotten used to it by now due to how many servants she's contracted with thus far, but it always leaves a trail in her veins which made it feel as if her insides were being doused with lead.
Still, Kiomi has to look at the man standing before her carefully. For some reason, this servant looked awfully familiar. Where did she know him from, and why does it feel like they've met before? Folding her arms over her chest, the magus thought hard-- remembering past rayshifts and singularities before it finally came to her.
"Ah." And then it hits her. During one of those strange singularities connected with Nobu, she remembers him and Ryouma's sketchy dealings.

"Aren't you that shady Caster that was working with that disgusting priest, Makuzu?" She asked, trying to confirm her memory. "Maxwell's Demon, wasn't it?"

That’s actually a good point. It’s about the journey towards that. By having infinite energy as a goal, humanity has something to strive for. And if it really is impossible, then there will always be a goal to reach for.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
That’s nice. Maybe one day humanity will prove his existence and we can summon him properly.
