Hurt You by Marie Myung-Ok Lee
Moving beyond the quasi-fraternal bond of the unforgettable George and Lenny from Of Mice and Men, Hurt You explores the actual sibling bond of Georgia and Leonardo da Vinci Daewoo Kim, who has an unnamed neurological disability that resembles autism. The themes of race, disability, and class spin themselves out in a suburban high school where the Kim family has moved in order to access better services for Leonardo. Suddenly unmoored from the familiar, including the support of her Aunt Clara, Georgia struggles to find her place in an Asian-majority school where whites still dominate culturally, and she finds herself feeling not Korean “enough.” Her one pole star is her commitment to her brother, a loyalty that finds itself at odds with her immigrant parents’ dreams for her, and an ableist, racist society that may bring violence to Leonardo despite her efforts to keep him safe.
Hurt You is a deep exploration of family, society, and the bond between siblings and reflects the reality that people with intellectual disabilities are far more likely to be the victim of a violent crime, not the perpetrator.
Last Canto for the Dead (Outlaw Saints #2) by Daniel José Older
Two gods-turned-teenagers wage simultaneous battles in the Caribbean and Brooklyn in this sequel to Ballad & Dagger.
Healer. Destroyer. Creator. Mateo Matisse and Chela Hidalgo are not just two teenagers in love–they’re powerful gods in human form. But soon they discover that their problems are far from over. On the shores of San Madrigal, two creature armies are battling for survival. And on the streets of Brooklyn, a once tight-knit community is divided, with two sides at each other’s throats. But worst of all, a heartbreaking prophecy rips these two young lovers apart, sending Mateo back to the city, where cops are now patrolling the streets, and keeping Chela tethered to the island, where chaos and death lurk around every corner.
Healer. Destroyer. Creator. As gods, their powers know no limits. But as teenagers–separated, desperate, grieving–what will become of them? And what will become of their people? Join their battle and witness their love in this thrilling conclusion to the epic saga that began with BALLAD & DAGGER.

Rubi Ramos’s Recipe for Success by Jessica Parra Graduation is only a few months away, and so far Rubi Ramos’s recipe for success is on track.
*Step 1: Get into the prestigious Alma University. *Step 2: Become incredibly successful lawyer. But when Alma waitlists Rubi’s application, her plan is in jeopardy. Her parents–especially her mom, AKA the boss–have wanted this for her for years. In order to get off the waitlist without her parents knowing, she needs math tutoring from surfer-hottie math genius Ryan, lead the debate team to a championship–and remember the final step of the recipe.
*Step 3: Never break the ban on baking. Rubi has always been obsessed with baking, daydreaming up new concoctions and taking shifts at her parents’ celebrated bakery. But her mother dismisses baking as a distraction–her parents didn’t leave Cuba so she could bake just like them.
But some recipes are begging to be tampered with… When the First Annual Bake Off comes to town, Rubi’s passion for baking goes from subtle simmer to full boil. She’s not sure if she has what it takes to become OC’s best amateur baker, and there’s only one way to find out–even though it means rejecting the ban on baking, and by extension, her parents. But life is what you bake it, and now Rubi must differentiate between the responsibility of unfulfilled dreams she holds, and finding the path she’s meant for.
As Long As We’re Together by Brianna Peppins A heartstring-tugging, uplifting, modern spin on Party of Five — a love letter to family, hope, and finding strength in unexpected places.
Even though she has six siblings, sixteen-year-old Novah still knows what it’s like to feel lonely. Her friends never remember to invite her anywhere because they assume Novah will be too busy overseeing dinner, baths, and homework — tasks that fall to her when her parents are at work. She wouldn’t mind it so much if her “perfect” older sister, Ariana, wasn’t always excused from helping out. She’s the star of the volleyball team, and their parents don’t want anything to jeopardize the scholarships she’ll need to become the first member of their family to attend college.
Needless to say, Novah feels like she’s been given a raw deal, especially when she’s forced to cancel a maybe-date with her crush, Hailee. Then one terrible night, their parents don’t make it back home. A car accident takes their lives and leaves seven heartbroken kids on their own. The Wilkinson siblings have no grandparents, no aunts or uncles. Since Ariana has just turned eighteen, she manages to convince the judge to give her temporary custody. If she can keep her family running smoothly, they’ll get to stay in their home. If not, they’ll be placed into foster care.
Novah will do whatever it takes to keep her family together but finds herself in a constant power struggle when Ariana refuses to take her advice, even once it becomes clear that they are all in way over their heads. Will Novah find her voice and summon the strength to do the impossible? Or will she be forced to say the hardest goodbyes of all?

With his shrewd eyes and his forks of corn-yellow hair, Julian Sands was a natural choice to play the valiant, romantic George Emerson, who snatches a kiss from Lucy Honeychurch (Helena Bonham Carter) in a Tuscan poppy field in A Room With a View (1985). “I wanted him to be real, not a two-dimensional minor screen god,” he said. “I liked him in his lighter, sexier moments, less so when he was brooding.”
Sands, who has died aged 65 while hiking in mountains in California, was dashing in that film, but he could also project a dandyish, effete or sinister quality. He was blessed with a mellifluous voice and a lean, youthful, fine-boned face, even if, as a child, his brothers insisted he resembled a horse. (He agreed.) In James Ivory’s film of EM Forster’s novel, he was pure heart-throb material. His participation in the notorious nude bathing scene was no impediment to the picture’s success.
Prior to that, he had played the journalist Jon Swain in The Killing Fields (1984), Roland Joffé’s drama about the bloody rise of the Khmer Rouge in Cambodia. The picture marked the beginning of his friendship with his co-star John Malkovich. “I’d been cautioned by Roland to keep my distance from John because he was an unstable character,” Sands recalled. “And John had been told by Roland to stay away from me, because I was a refined, sensible person who didn’t want to be distracted. In fact, we bonded instantly.”
Malkovich directed Sands in a one-man show in which he read Harold Pinter’s poetry. First staged in 2011, the production had its origins in an occasion six years earlier when Pinter, suffering from oesophageal cancer, had asked Sands to read in his stead at a benefit event in St Stephen Walbrook church in the City of London. The writer “sat in the front row with his stone basilisk stare”, Sands recalled.
Not all his work was so highfalutin, and a good deal of it fell into the category of boisterous, campy fun. In Ken Russell’s Gothic (1986), he played the poet Shelley, who indulges in sex, drugs and séances with Lord Byron (Gabriel Byrne) and the future Mary Shelley (Natasha Richardson), and is prone to recite verse naked in thunderstorms.
In a similar vein but far less deranged was Impromptu (1991), which brought together other notable 19th-century figures including George Sand (Judy Davis) and Frederic Chopin (Hugh Grant). Sands, who played Franz Liszt, described it as “Carry On Composer”.
Born in Otley, West Yorkshire, he was raised in Leeds and Gargrave, near Skipton; he later described his childhood as “part conservative and part Huckleberry Finn”. His mother, Brenda, was a Tory councillor and leading light of the local amateur dramatic society, while his father, William, who left when Julian was three, was a soil analyst. Julian made his acting debut in a local pantomime at the age of eight.
At 13, he won a scholarship to Lord Wandsworth college, Hampshire. He moved to London to study at Central School of Speech and Drama, and while there became friends with Derek Jarman. He played the Devil in an extended promotional video that Jarman directed in 1979 for Marianne Faithfull’s album Broken English. The role had been intended for David Bowie, who dropped out at the eleventh hour. “You’re devilish,” Jarman told Sands. “You can play it.”
The actor’s first film appearance came in an adaptation of Peter Nichols’s stage comedy Privates on Parade (1983), starring John Cleese and Denis Quilley, from which his one line of dialogue was cut. There was more rotten luck when he won the lead in a new Tarzan movie, only for the financing to fall through. It was eventually filmed as Greystoke: The Legend of Tarzan, Lord of the Apes (1984), with Christopher Lambert donning the hallowed loin-cloth.
On television, he starred with Anthony Hopkins in the miniseries A Married Man (1983). In Oxford Blues (1984), he was a rower butting heads with a Las Vegas parking attendant (Rob Lowe) who has tricked his way into a place at Oriel College. He was in The Doctor and the Devils (1985), inspired by the Burke and Hare case. “I had a roll in the hay with Twiggy which took about 15 takes,” he said.
Following A Room With a View, he agreed to play the lead in Ivory’s next Forster adaptation, Maurice (1987), before abruptly dropping out and fleeing to the US. In the process, he left behind his wife, the journalist Sarah Sands (nee Harvey), who described him as “restless” and “dramatic”, and their son, Henry. “I’m not the first person to create stability and security and then dismantle it even more effectively than I created it,” the actor said.
Once in America he took on an array of film parts. In Warlock (1989), he played the son of Satan, wreaking havoc in modern-day Los Angeles. Investing this pantomime villain with lip-smacking brio, he was likened by the Washington Post to a “hell-bent Peter Pan” and nominated for best actor in the Fangoria Chainsaw awards. He reprised the role in Warlock: The Armageddon (1993).
As an entomologist in Arachnophobia (1990), he was called upon to have as many as a hundred spiders crawling all over his face. Alternating these mainstream projects with arthouse ones, he played a diplomat in pre-war Poland in Krzysztof Zanussi’s Wherever You Are … (1988) and a monk in Night Sun (1990), the Taviani brothers’ adaptation of Tolstoy’s short story Father Sergius.
For the Canadian horror director David Cronenberg, he starred in the warped and witty Naked Lunch (1991), which disproved those who had declared William S Burroughs’s original novel unfilmable. Just as outré but less accomplished was Boxing Helena (1993), directed by Jennifer Lynch, daughter of David. Sands played a surgeon who keeps a woman captive by making her a quadruple amputee.
After starring as a young classics teacher in his friend Mike Figgis’s film of Terence Rattigan’s The Browning Version (1994), Sands worked a further six times with that director, appearing in his movies even when he was an unorthodox choice for the job in hand. One example was the part of a menacing Latvian pimp in Leaving Las Vegas (1996).
Later roles include a mysteriously unblemished Phantom in Dario Argento’s version of The Phantom of the Opera (1998), Louis XIV (whom Sands described as “the first supermodel”) in Joffé’s Vatel (2000), a crime kingpin named Snakehead in the Jackie Chan vehicle The Medallion (2003), a computer security wizard in the comic caper Ocean’s Thirteen (2007), a younger version of the businessman played by Christopher Plummer in David Fincher’s take on The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo (2011) and a sadistic paedophile in the gruelling wartime odyssey The Painted Bird (2019).
On television, he was a Russian entrepreneur in the fifth season of 24 (2006) and the hero’s father, Jor-El, in two episodes of the Superman spin-off Smallville (2009). For the BBC, he played two very different actors in factually based one-off specials: first Laurence Olivier in Kenneth Tynan: In Praise of Hardcore (2005), then John Le Mesurier in We’re Doomed! The Dad’s Army Story (2015).
His recent work includes Benediction, Terence Davies’s haunting study of Siegfried Sassoon, and the thriller The Survivalist (both 2021), which found him back in the company of Malkovich. One of several titles still awaiting release is the drama Double Soul (2023) starring F Murray Abraham and Paz Vega.
Sands never stopped wandering, walking, running and climbing. “I am on a perpetual Grand Tour,” he said in 2000. Asked in 2018 about his eclectic career, he explained: “I was looking for something exotic, things that took me out of myself. I think I found myself a little boring.”
He was reported missing while out in the San Gabriel mountains, north of Los Angeles, in mid-January 2023. His remains were found in June.
In 1990 he married Evgenia Citkowitz. She survives him, along with their two daughters, Imogen and Natalya, and his son.

Meet Mary. She was Free, Educated and A Spy. Her Disguise… Confederate European House Slave!
Mary was the best as she was working right in The Confederate President’s home. She had a photographic mind. Everything Mary saw on the Rebel President’s desk, she could repeat word for word.
"Ellen Bond" was neither dim-witted, illiterate, nor a slave. In reality, she was a free, well-educated African-American woman by the name of Mary Elizabeth Bowser. And she was a Union spy working right under Confederate President Jefferson Davis’s nose.
For months during the most crucial period of the Civil War, as General Ulysses S. Grant maneuvered to capture Richmond, the Confederate capital, Mary supplied critical military intelligence to the Union army. In recognition of her contributions to the Union war effort, she was inducted into the U.S. Army Military Intelligence Hall of Fame in 1995.
Elizabeth was able to arrange for a friend to take Mary with her as a servant to help at social functions held by Varina Davis in the Confederate White House. Mary performed her servant role so well she was eventually taken on full time as, presumably, a slave hired out by her master.
Tumblr media
As a spy, Mary enjoyed a significant advantage: invisibility. It’s not that she was unseeable, like H. G. Wells’ Invisible Man, but rather that as a black slave, she was unseen and unnoticed by the whites she served. Her entrance into the dining room to serve at table in no way affected the conversations Jefferson Davis might be having with visiting generals. When she went to his office to clean, it did not occur to the Confederate president that this seemingly ignorant and dull-witted African woman could have either the capacity or the interest to glean information from the papers he left lying on his desk.
In fact, Mary’s role went far beyond the norm. Whatever she read or heard she was able to remember and pass on word-for-word. That’s the testimony of Thomas McNiven, the official head of the Richmond spy ring. McNiven ran a bakery and made daily deliveries all around the city, including to the Confederate White House. This allowed Mary to regularly meet with him for a few minutes as he delivered his goods to the Davis household. Years later, in 1904, McNiven recalled those days to his daughter and her husband, who eventually recorded his story:
Mary was able to continue her espionage activities until January of 1865. Jefferson Davis had become aware that information was somehow being leaked, and suspicion apparently began to fall on Mary. She made the decision to flee Richmond and seems to have made her way to the North. One unsubstantiated account says that in her last act as a Union agent, she tried to burn down the Confederate White House, but was unsuccessful.
Sometime in the early 1850s, Mary was sent to Philadelphia, as Elizabeth had been, to be educated at a Quaker school for African Americans. In 1855, with Mary’s schooling complete, Elizabeth arranged for her to join a missionary community in Liberia. Mary, however, hated living in the African country, and by the spring of 1860 was back in Richmond with Elizabeth.
A year later, in April 1861, Mary was married to Wilson Bowser, a free African man. Interestingly, the ceremony, like her baptism, took place at St. John’s Episcopal. The wedding notice listed both Mary and Wilson as “colored servants to Mrs. E. L. Van Lew” (Elizabeth’s mother).

The summer is almost over and I can't leave the season without this classic—Almost Famous (2000), dir. Cameron Crowe. I used to think it was a perfect start-of-summer film, but I'm realizing may be better suited to these late August, early September weeks.
I read a comment the other day from someone who was not the biggest fan of Philip Seymour Hoffman's acting, who said the real test of his skills and legacy would be which of his performances would stand the test of time. They doubted any of them would—he didn't have any "iconic" characters, they argued.
While I obviously disagree with their entire assessment—for just one example, The Master and his other projects with PTA will be/remain classics 50 years from now—it did make me think. Phil was, though it's a touchy term, often described as a character actor. Even when he was a leading man, he wasn't playing himself. An actual quote from him in 2002 I just found: "Even if I was hired into a leading-man part, I'd probably turn it into the non-leading-man part." He doesn't have an Indiana Jones, a James Bond, but I don't think that disqualifies him from having iconic or lasting characters.
That's what came to mind rewatching Almost Famous tonight, and I might argue Lester Bangs is PSH's most iconic character. If you consider the ratio between screen time and cultural influence, there's probably zero competition among his roles—under eight minutes of screen time vs. untold thousands of people who still quote, gif, share, gif, write, post, and otherwise remember and feel inspired by his words, over two decades later. (Dusty Davis might be the second-most influential, considering how many people got into storm-chasing thanks to Twister). He's a voice for generations of music lovers, film lovers, everyone who watched Almost Famous for the first time and fell in love with its magic or sided with Bangs' cynicism.
What does it matter what some stranger on the internet says, anyway. Whether people will be watching dozens of his films in 80 years or just a few or none at all, we're watching them now. Last night I found a tribute from film critic Brian Tallerico, from the days after Phil's death: "In Mary and Max, [PSH's character] Max says... 'We can, however, choose our friends, and I am glad I have chosen you.' Hoffman felt like more of a friend than another actor. And I am glad he chose us."
Patrick Fugit, playing William Miler, was just 16 when he starred in Almost Famous, his first movie ever. Phil was violently sick with the flu while filming, sweating and shaking and throwing up between takes. But he still found time to look out for others. Patrick wrote this remembrance of working with Phil, which is making me cry a lot as I reread it tonight:
They had lit the scene quite bright from the outside and the light was just behind Philip. So every time I would look at Philip, I would start squinting and my eyes would start watering, so I would kind of look down at the paper pad to pretend I was writing. They kept telling me, “Hey, you have to look at Philip when you read your lines.” I didn’t know how to say that I can’t actually physically keep my eyes on Philip but Philip had been watching me. He’s like, “Guys, c’mon! Can’t we move the fucking light? I mean, the kid can barely look across the table!” And he and [cinematographer] John Toll kind of got into it. John was like, “We’ll adjust it a little bit but the light’s there for a reason, buddy. We got to light the scene.” Philip said, “Fuck lighting! Do you want it to look fucking good or do you want the kid to be able to act!” ... Then they’re like, “Okay, we’ll move the light,” and then we shot the scene. But it was the first time where I got in a situation where I didn’t know if I could stand up for myself. And he just stepped up and did it for me. And then he kind of looked at me and smiled and said, “Dude, if something’s bothering you, you have to speak up.” I was like, “Okay, yeah, yeah, totally.”

Joining a company bound for an American tour, she came to the U.S. in her twenties, apparently making a few appearances on Broadway in small roles, but primarily touring in stock companies. Mary arrived in Los Angeles in the mid-1920s with her mother and daughter and began playing variations on the roles she would spend her career on.
As well as starring with Rathbone Mary also had roles in movies with Katharine Hepburn, Cary Grant, Mae West, James Stewart and even Laurel and Hardy in their film Bonnie Scotland.
At the height of her fame, she made a triumphant return to Glasgow in September 1946, it was the only time she came home and was greeted by Irving Berlin and Sir Harry Lauder.
She made personal appearances at Glasgow picture houses, where she sang songs and shared stories from Hollywood with everyone who had turned out to see her.
Mary even returned to her local church, where she had sung in the choir as a youngster, and was mobbed. Similar scenes took place in Rutherglen when she was staying with family and tried to go to the post office.
Although she only returned home once she obviously was proud of her Scottish heritage and was very active in the Daughters of Scotia auxiliary of the Order of Scottish Clans, a fraternal order founded in New Haven Connecticut only open to women who were born in Scotland, are of Scottish descent, or are married to men of Scottish descent.
She died, after a long illness, in the Motion Picture Home in Los Angeles aged 81.

Okay, having completed my First Ever Designing Women Re-watch, I’m dropping my new femslash pairing rankings:
Chalene/Julia. (No one is surprised; see pinned post).
Mary Jo/Suzanne. How can you beat the cruise ship Bette Davis drag queen stirring the pot by telling Suzanne that Mary Jo said she was in love with her?
BJ/Julia. SURPRISE! @frenchtwistresistance got me on board with BJ in a big way this time and although they’re very different from Charlene/Julia, one reason I enjoy both pairings is that Charlene and BJ are both excellent foils for Julia and apparently I’m a sucker for that in a ship. I’m obsessed with how BJ is really the only one (or at least the best at) drawing Julia out of schoolmarm mode.
tienne/Julia. Ranked as high as it is mainly because of how sexy they would be! Imagine Julia waking up in bed with Étienne in Vegas instead of Anthony? I’m obsessed with Julia perseverating on Étienne’s “skimpy” outfits (like she did with Charlene’s flashy outfits in S1!)--it’s not that she disapproves but that they’re so distracting when she’s trying to work. I think they would also bond over their passion for performance, which Julia mostly sublimates except for the occasions when she trots out “Giselle” or participates in community theatre. I think Étienne would encourage Julia to indulge that side of herself more and that Julia would be really taken with Étienne’s commitment to her craft.
Carlene/Julia. Carlene is even more free-spirited and curious than Charlene which also makes her a fun contrast to Julia. She genuinely looks to Julia for mentorship in a way Charlene doesn’t because they aren’t equals. (Charlene still idolizes Julia but it’s different... probably because I read that as a component of her desire.) For example, Charlene is a partner and founding member of Sugarbaker’s and I don’t think Carlene ever officially buys in.
Charlene/Suzanne. They have a lot in common! They bond over the fact that people dismiss them because of their beauty and assume they’re not intelligent. (Charlene yearns for knowledge, and she is more emotionally intelligent than any of the other women on the show. When she starts to take college classes she picks up the concepts immediately! Also, from what I understand she’s mostly in charge of the financial side of the business which requires competency in math! I think Suzanne is also emotionally intelligent but it’s her social skills which are impressive; she wines and dines the clients and navigates society with ease.) They are also both interested in rituals of femininity and celebrity gossip. Also, it’s usually them who pair off when they travel--whether it’s partying in New Orleans or just sharing a bed.
Julia/Mary Jo. They would be a very hot couple, but I think they’d ultimately be incompatible. They’re both stubborn, which is also something you could say about Julia and BJ, but they were never in competition the way I think Mary Jo saw herself being with Julia. Julia is imperious and uncompromising, so when she falters and does wrong by Mary Jo, it’s an uphill battle for her to set aside her ego and own up to her mistakes, and Mary Jo resents that. I also think Mary Jo is a tiny bit insecure and tends to compare herself to Julia and that would not bode well for their relationship.
Charlene/Mary Jo. They are just best friends to me. I can see a spark existing there, but they've known each other for so long that they wouldn’t risk their friendship.

Some more stuff for the Frost family au!
Mainly character stuff with a bit of lore.
————-
Holly (Marie-Mistle) Davis - Scott’s Cousin
Holly and Scott don’t talk that much anymore but they still do keep in touch every now and again.
Their mothers were not on the best terms and that leads Holly to try bridge the gap between her and Scott whenever their together so they don’t end up like them.
She’s the younger one about 34/5 I think Scott’s like mid 40s idk
Also holly is pansexual
She’s a music teacher, and loves the kids to death and is always happy to help with any problems the teens may have
She’s selfless, really selfless and it means sometimes she forgets to take care of herself
Also a bit of a klutz
Holly is also a part time mechanic at her dads (Victor) garage, Victor taught her everything she knows about cars and machinery
A brunette always has hair hair in a short bob, hates her blue eyes because she had always wanted her mothers greyish ones
She’s about 5’6, Holly gets her height from her dad
Fun fact her parents are divorced but are on good terms with each other.
Victor remarried and Holly loves her stepmom Andrea
Toby Sinclair - Holly’s fiancé
He’s a literal golden retriever and is bisexual
So kind and charming, loves Shakespeare and is a huge theatre nerd
Can be serious when he needs to be but other then that he’s a huge goof
Can be a bit stupid sometimes (he was actually tempted to become a maths teacher)
He met Holly when he started to teach a the high school she was working at and they became fast friends and two years after started to date
6’4 blonde and has these beautiful brown eyes (holly does get extremely jealous over this)
Eldest sibling, his sisters Donna and Becky are chaos when they come visit him
Doesn’t know about Scott being Santa but does have his suspicions about it when they come to the Np
Thinks Scott is a bit awkward but they do get along quite well with each other
But Toby is happy if Holly is happy
He’s honestly just happy he gets to spend the rest of his life with this beautiful kind woman and meet her estranged cousin who happenstance be santa
Now for my elf babies
Celeste is the eldest at about 1500 years old, then Babs at 1435 the twins are both 1390 and are the youngest
Celeste is a mother hen she’s very stoic but does care about her little family and her big family of elves
5’7 and has really curly hair she’s a brunette but always has her red streaks in her hair she’s a lesbian
She bakes the best best cinnamon buns and the cookies are always delicious
Babs is always thinking of ways to improve things, although slightly impulsive and quick to jump to conclusions she means well
She’s one of the best makers, Santa said so himself at some point Babs can’t remember when it was
You can always find her with her trusty goggles and a spanner
She’s got short genes (5’3) and her hair is exactly the same it’s always messy and is like a mix between a deep purple and a dark blue
Babs is bisexual
The twins are chaos incarnate
If you lock eyes with one of them you’re their next target for pranks
Both blonde Connie’s hair is curly and Scrapps is maybe bald or just has thin hair (he had a Mohawk phase once and Bernard cried when he saw it)
Connie loves designing outfits for the little dolls
Whilst Scrapp is always tinkering with toys to get them to be more chaotic and fun
Connie is non binary and Scrapp is gay!
Their both about 5’5 and not a day goes by when they piss of babs for making short jokes
——————
Now for some story stuff
These four elves get assigned to watch over Jack, if they manage to make sure he stays on track and show that he has changed by Christmas their little group (Elf Protection Society) becomes an official Squad to help Christmas go smoothly.
They don’t expect Jack to fall in love with Santa’s cousin who they call mom every now and again. ALONG WITH HER FIANCÉ THEY KNEW NOTHING ABOUT.
Holly does frequently visit the np sometimes and has bonded with the elves that reside there so they call her mom every now and again
So now their spending more time with Jack, Holly and Toby the seven of them are now their own tiny family (or that’s what Babs says)
And the four elves are just watching the chaos that is Jack and Holly flirting with Toby (who’s getting more and more flustered with each pick up line)
Then they also have to make sure Jack doesn’t do anything to drastic with this new found love (and power) he has.
Whilst Scott watches the guy who nearly ruined his life flirt with the cousin he wants to protect and does not like it. Yes we are getting protective Scott in this because i said so
Jack spends more time with the four elves who are looking after him, forming a bond with them all
He realises that he has a family now and won’t admit it out loud but he likes it.

The Mosley Review: Creed 3
Tumblr media
I believe the Rocky franchise is the longest running and suceessful film franchise that is purely about the sport of boxing. It wasn't always about the fights but rather the man wearing the gloves and his progression as a human being to greatness. An underdog story that has carried on for generations and now comes the chance for the new face of the franchise to carry that torch in their own personal journey. What I've loved about the Creed franchise is how the foundation of the legacy that came before Adonis has informed and shaped his path. We saw his origins in the first film, we saw him fight to build a career and a family in the second film and now we see him live his own life. What I loved in this film is that we get to dig deeper into the past of Adonis and how his past comes back to remind him of what he has risen above. That to me has always been the heart of the franchise and that has stayed consistent in this new entry. The emotional bond that Adonis had with his family was the best part and I loved the immediate connection and sense of failure he felt once he was reunited with his long lost friend. The story then takes off in a fairly quick and sometimes unrealistic way that might take boxing purists by surprise. There is a connective thread in the film that is severed in a death scene that seems to come out of nowhere. It is explained, but it just didn't sit well with me. It wasn't a perfect step into the first round on the titular character's own, but it still was an entertaining character drama that was fun and filled with wonderful performances.
Tumblr media
Michael B. Jordan returns as Adonis Creed and he still delivers the same charisma and strength the character is known for. This time around he is more of a business and family driven man that has truly grown up. Tessa Thompson returns as his loving wife Bianca and she continues to deliver her best work as the character. The chemistry between them is by far the best I've seen on screen. They are the perfect example of what a loving couple looks like and I loved every second they were together. The one actress that stole the film for me was their daughter Amara played the by the wonderful Mila Davis-Kent. From the moment she is on screen to the very end of the film, she represented the heart of the film and I loved that she was the driving force behind Adonis' decisions. Their scenes together were amazing and adorable. Phylicia Rashad returns as Mary Anne Creed and I loved that she continued to be the connective tissue to the past and how she reveals the many ways she protected Adonis as a child. Wood Harris was even more awesome and the voice of warning as Adonis' couch Tony "Little Duke" Evers. He would always be right about everything and I agreed with all of his rants. Johnathan Majors continues to shine in his meteoric rise to fame and as Damian "Diamond Dame" Anderson, he was spectacular. The emotional connective thread between him and Adonis was really something fun to explore. They both represent a different side of the same coin and it was amazing to watch play out. The emotional story between them truly comes to a head in the final fight of the film and it was brilliantly portrayed by both actors.
Tumblr media
The score by Joseph Shirley was excellent and drives home the emotional core of the film. I liked that he kept the hip hop infused rhythms and beats that Ludwig Göransson began in the original film and created some new sounds for the characters. Visually the film was stunning and the use of the IMAX cameras during the fights was epic and well shot. I do wish that Adonis and Dame would've taken more damage though. These films consistently showed the amount of bruising, welts and swelling from the very violent hits traded between the fighters and I just felt that they really scaled it back too far in this film. It made the fights seem unrealistic. There was a sense of polish that was missing as some of the charm of the franchise has rubbed off a bit. Overall, Michael B. Jordan has done excellent job for a first time director and I loved the personal story his team crafted for Adonis. This was another great entry in the Creed franchise and if they end it here, I will be satisfied. If they make another one, then keep this same energy. Let me know what you thought of the film or my review in the comments below. Thanks for reading!

"🄻🄴🅃'🅂 🄷🄸🅃 🅃🄷🄴 🅁🄾🄰🄳." | Winchesters x reader| Prologue
Pilot pt 1
There was a tight bond between the Jones and Winchester families. Both family's were supernatural hunters and friends for years. In 1979 the Winchesters had a handsome baby boy and two years later jones had a beautiful baby girl. Both grew up partners in crime. Almost inseparable they had been through thick and thin. In 1983 when the winchesters had their second son the two became closer. They both became protective of the small child and vowed to protect each other.
Crickets chirped and the once lush oak trees were barren a sign of the up coming winter. The night sky smothered with stars and dead leaves of various colors covered the ground like a blanket. The night was calm and pleasant, a little to calm for the hunters liking.
It was a rare sight to find the Jones and Winchesters gathered around the living room with a couple of beers and bottles of wine without a care in the world. Dean and Vivian were asleep on top of each other and And baby Sam was resting in his nursery.
Venus and Davis Jones to drunk to to drive were invited to stay the night. The couple slept in the Guest room and their daughter slept on a bed next to dean. The guest long asleep Mary carried her child to his cradle, dean walking beside her. She carefully places the baby in the crib. "Come on, let's say goodnight to your brother." Mary whispers
" 'Night , Sam" Dean murmurs kissing the top of Sams forehead
"Goodnight, love" Mary brushes a strand of hair off of sams face
"Hey,dean." says a mysterious voice from the doorway. Dean looks back to see his father
"Daddy!" "Hey buddy." Dean runs to his father and John scooped his child laughing. " So what do you think? You think Sammy's ready to toss a football yet?" "No daddy." Dean giggles and shakes his head. John laughs at this "No. Not yet" Mary can't help but feel her heart flutter at the bond of the two boys. She walks pass him with a smile "You got him?" "I've got him." John mumbles holding his son closer to him "Sweet dreams, Sam." John walk out flipping the switch and carry's Dean to the bedroom to find the small Jones child awake. " Goodnight Vivian." "Goodnight Mr.John." "Goodnight Dean." "Goodnight daddy.". John chuckles to himself and turns off the switch.
-A few minutes later-
The small baby grabs his feet gurling staring at his baseball themed moblie
slowly spinning on it's own picking up speed. The car themed clock comes to a stop and the moon shaped night light flickers.
In the master bedroom-
The lights flicker on the baby moniter that sat on the nightstand next to a picture of Mary and John. Strange noises comeing through the moniter make mary stir. She turns on the light and looks around, finding herself alone in her room. She makes her way to Sam's room to see John's silhouette over Sam's crib "John? Is he hungry?" Mary questioned. John turns to face her placeing a finer to his lips "Shhhh""All right."
Mary stmbled back to her room the lights by the stair case flicker. Mary frowns and taps of the bulb till the light fixes."Hmm."
Mary hears faint voices and sees lights flickering coming down stairs. A war movie is playing and John was asleep. 'If John is here...wait, Sam!' Mary realizes what it could be she dashes back up the stairs. "Sammy! Sammy!" Mary enters the nursery and come to a sudden picture of Mary and John. Strange noises comeing through the moniter make mary stir. She turns on the light and looks around, finding herself alone in her room. She makes her way to Sam's room to see John's silhouette over Sam's crib "John? Is he hungry?" Mary questioned. John turns to face her placeing a finer to his lips "Shhhh""All right." Mary stumbled back to her room the lights by the stair case flicker. Mary frowns and taps of the bulb till the light fixes."Hmm." Mary hears faint voices and sees lights flickering coming down stairs. A war movie is playing and John was asleep. 'If John is here...wait, Sam!' Mary realizes what it could be she dashes back up the stairs. "Sammy! Sammy!" Mary enters the nursery and come to a sudden stop.
A scream wakes the whole house.John startles awake. "Mary?" He  scrambles out of his chair and runs up the stairs and hears another pair of screams making him run faster.
John burst through the nursery door. "Mary?" The room dead silent except for the quiet gurgles of Sam. John looks over the side of the crib looking at Sam. "Hey Sammy. You ok?" John murmurs. A dark substance drips next to Sam gaining John's attion. He touches the substance with the tips of his fingers. Some more falls to his hand and he looks up. Mary is sparwled acrooss the the ceiling, the stomach of the nightgown bloodied. John's breathing stops and crumbles to the floor.
"No!Mary!"Mary's body burst into flames coveringthe cieling and spreading to the walls. The small crys of Sam alerting John from his trance. John scoops sam up and runs down stairs and bump into"Daddy!". John shoves Sam into Dean's arms. "Where is Vivian?" "I don't know! When I woke up she was gone." "Okay take your brother outside as fast as you can and don't look back! Now,Dean, go!" "What about Vivian?" "I'll get her! Now go!" Dean scurrys out the house, Sam wailing. "It's okay Sammy."
"Vivian! Where are you?!" John ran through out the house until he stopped in front of the guest bedroom. y/n stood petrified, in front of the bed of her parents. Both the adults dead their stomachs bleed and both on fire. "Vivian! We have to go!" John picked up the child and ran out as she sobbed on his sholder.John  ran out side and picked up Dean and Sam."I gotcha."
-Later that night- The county fire department puts out the harsh fire. Firemen puts out the fire comeing from sam's nursery window. People ather around the burning house while a man tries to wave the neibors away. Across the street, John,Dean, and Vivian sit on the hood of the Impala. John jolds Sam close to him and watches the house slowly burn to the ground.

She glances through the peephole and freezes. "What in?"
The newcomer knocks on the door again, somehow even more urgently.
She opens the door to reveal Gawain standing red faced and puffing at the door. Bran wonders if the man ran from the station. It's pretty clear he has.
"Gawain?" Molly asks awkwardly but there's no time to question how the two know each other.  The knight's eyes have already found Bran.

Ann-Marie Calilhanna: Capturing Mardi Gras for 20 Years
New Post has been published on https://qnews.com.au/ann-marie-calilhanna-capturing-mardi-gras-for-20-years/
Ann-Marie Calilhanna: Capturing Mardi Gras for 20 Years
Much-loved photographer, Ann-Marie Calilhanna has dedicated over 22 years to documenting the vibrant Sydney LGBTQIA+ community.
The Woman Behind the Camera
Ann-Marie Calilhanna is one of our community’s most accomplished photographers. As a gay woman herself, she has served as an official accredited photographer for the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras Festival for more than a decade. Her compelling work is prominently featured in magazines, newspapers, and online, offering a visual narrative of the Sydney community.  Ann-Marie has witnessed and photographed some of the biggest milestones our community has seen in the last two decades.
See the exclusive interview with QNews below.
What drew you to photographing queer people and events in the first place?
I love the sense of family. A bond of unspoken connection and the importance of documenting the progression of our fight for equal rights. And the privilege to document our vital history so it’s never lost.
How long have you been taking photos professionally?
I started documenting our community’s history from 2002. I have always been fortunate to be at the forefront photographing many firsts and lasts that will never be forgotten:
a couples first kiss on the dance floor
a rainbow baby’s first drag story time
the first and last marriage equality rally
Not to mention 20 Mardi Gras Parades, Fair Days and parties and still counting! There isn’t much I haven’t seen and some things I can’t unsee!
What is something priceless that you take from your community photography career?
Witnessing our younger generations make the most of those hard-won opportunities by our trail blazers, so they can openly live as their true authentic selves.
Over the years I’ve met incredible friends who have become my family and I feel so fortunate that many of them are the backbone of this community and such a strong foundation in my life.
Who would be your all-time favourite celebrity that you’ve met through your work?
I don’t have just one. But I have met and photographed many celebrities, including Kylie and Danni Minogue, Cyndi Lauper, Boy George, Cher, Tina Arena, Dawn French, Keanu Reeves, and Kirstin Davis to name a few.
There are heaps more, but I remember a special moment with Kelly Rowland where she actually asked if she could have a photo with me. Wow! I was really taken aback by that! Kelly was so sweet and down to earth towards me.
A lot has changed for the queer community over the last couple of decades. What difference has that made to the photographs you’ve taken?
When I first started out, events were more segregated and more underground. I have seen the progression of equality unfold, now many of our events are held in mainstream spaces and are less binary.
Gay events now will often house people whose gender is less defined in traditional terms and people who maybe don’t identify as queer but as allies, making the events more diverse and larger in scale.
