there's something very juvenile and shallow about klaroline, in my opinion. part of it is because the narrative has never really focused on them unless its for fanservice. klayley, for example, have had ups and downs. they have worked together and worked against each other. they have made concessions for each other, they have killed for each other, and they have made choices for each other. their dynamic feels a bit more adult despite their immaturity at times, and of course part of that comes from their shared responsibility and their shared desire to put hope above themselves. it is through their circumstances that they regard each other differently and begin to treat each other like equals, which i find interesting. personally, klaroline just feels a bit stuck in the teen drama pit, which is why i do not find it nearly as compelling.
I also think it's because Caroline herself is a teenager. Yes, a vampire, but also a girl who's frozen at seventeen and will never grow up out of it, similar to Rebekah.
I'm not sure if it's been said in canon, but in tvd it's pretty clear that vampires are more or less mentally frozen with their physical age when they die. I don't know if that made sense, so: you die being twenty-two = you'll always be twenty-two mentally and emotionally, no matter how much you live as a vampire.
A clear example of that is Klaus, who died when he was twenty-one/twenty-two and despite having a thousand years, he clearly doesn't act like it. Or Rebekah, who in canon died being seventeen: she was clearly an insecure and neurotic teenager in tvd, until they made her act mature and feminist in The Originals (don't come at me for the last part, trying to steal a girl's boyfriend wasn't very feminist of her).
But back to the point, definitely. There was a lack of power between their relationship which Klaus always took advantage of, and Caroline did act like she couldn't stand his sight yet she didn't hesitate before accepting his attention or his gifts imo. I believe is because they weren't supposed to be romantically interwined at first, so the writers clearly didn't know how to handle them and they tried to make look romantic every time Klaus threatened her and snapped whenever she said something he didn't like.
Which failed, and yet fans bought it with their whole "Klaus is the only one who always put Caroline first." He didn't imo and that's final.
And Joseph and Kat, the actress of Bonnie, wanted their characters to have a romantic relationship yet Pl*c said a big no because she's a racist piece of shit. So with the way the writers jumped at the opportunity to not give us the romance between the black witch and the hybrid and instead had him "fall" for the baby vampire is disgusting. Klaus x Bonnie would have been a thousand of times better than any of his other relationships.
And now, going to klayley, I personally don't ship them anymore even though I did once. I agree about how they were more mature than klaroline, but the whole point of their dynamic is that they wouldn't have spared the other a glance if not for Hope. Hayley hated sleeping with him, as pointed out for their daughter in s5, but didn't regret it considering it brought her her hope (no pun intended lmao, or perhaps yes). Still, seeing the development in their relationship was quite beautiful despite everything: they loved each other as family, and one of the few things they agreed on was that Hope was their number one priority.
The whole conception about how Hope was made is strange though, hybrid and female werewolf = magic and most powerful baby as cliché as Renaissance from Twilight, that is three species without any logical explanation other than "we don't want any black witch (especially Bonnie Bennett) to be the most powerful" and "Klaus is a hybrid so he can procreate, despite the fact that he had been killed before having his werewolf side locked, therefore he couldn't get any woman pregnant".
I honestly love Hope, but her whole character revolves around being the most powerful and being the daughter of Klaus Mikaelson who is traumatized after her daddy and mommy died.
But going back to the point, definitely. Personally, I don't ship anyone with Klaus because I believe that to be seriously in a relationship with him, you must be as screwed up as him. It's the reason I don't believe Camille or Caroline could have been with him for a long time, and honestly he doesn't deserve either of those girls (I do though, give him to me.)
Either way, klamille and klaroline have problems of their own, but the fact that they resemble so much the sister he's always been obssesed with??? And the way Rebekah went for Marcel, the person that the show always said was the most like Klaus???

Do you consider/think that Rebekah betrayed Klaus by getting with Marcel in the first place? I wasn’t much of fan of the auntie/nephew/lovers “relationship” they had it was just weird af but rewatching TO S1 now….
it’s making realize that Rebekah did betray Klaus by going after HIS SON (same if Elijah went after hope after she grew up) and Marcel did by brining Pap Tunda then Mikael and yet somehow they framed it as Klaus being the villain/evil brother in that storyline.
Their so called “relationship” it’s just disgusting & disturbing on so many levels and Klaus was actually right to prevent it, he was selfish & cruel in getting in the way of all of Rebekah’s other relationships but I actually agree with him on this on.
Rebekah should NOT have started anything with Klaus’s son, she cross a boundary, and she basically groomed Marcel to love her, had Marcel been a girl and Elijah got together with he, everyone would acknowledge how creepy that situation was and how Klaus was right to prevent such “relationship”.
Would love to know your thoughts on the manner if you will please
Now the originals is about how dysfunctional the mikaelsons relationships are, they're all deeply traumatized and troubled not very good people so yes, I mean if we're gonna talk about how unhealthy/inappropriate these ships are klayley will get most of the lashings here too
But Klaus wasn't ln the right,in fact he just had a huge victim complex, his reasons for ruining it for Marcel and Rebekah were not out of some sort of fatherly fear for Marcel's well being, if anything he neglected him quite a lot
But it was a mix of feeling entitled to both of them, worry they'll love each other more than they love him and also fear of them being too attached to each other under the threat of Mikael as Klaus himself said in s1 that after settling in new Orleans and him feeling like they found their forever home he did not mind them being together and was quite happy for them
Rebekah suffered a lot of abuse from Klaus, she had every right to do the most to escape him because it was him who drove her to such a point and traumatized her that badly
So yeah I actually think she should've done worse tbh

it's so weird that the better developed ships (klamille and haylijah) weren't endgame, but the other ones (freya and keelin, kolvina and marcel and rebekah) had a happy ending

I know you’re not really a fan of the Mikaelsons but I always find it really funny when people complain about Rebekah and Marcel getting together because he’s Klaus’ adoptive son as if this doesn’t follow rather naturally out of the incestuous Klaus/Rebekah vibes.
And more recently I was thinking that there’s something going on there that Elijah is only interested in Hayley after she’s tied to Klaus by Hope and also that Hayley ends up becoming a hybrid aka what Klaus is and shares a lot of traits with him and is romantically involved with Elijah. (I find people act like it’s so gross that Hayley would get together with Elijah after having a kid with Klaus as if that’s never happened ever? Granted, most of the time the first guy would be dead but still. To me, the interesting parts are Hayley’s similarities to Klaus.)
Anyway I don’t exactly know where I’m going with this but you’ve talked about Klaus/Rebekah before so.
Oh the pseudo-incestuous nature of both of those ships make perfect sense for this family and especially for those two lmao. They were so obsessed with Klausie xDD (hell, even some of the other siblings' romances can be connected, if not in as straightforward a way). And like Hayley, Marcel had more than one thing in common with Klaus, for all their differences. Rebekah herself noticed pointed this out often.
I definitely LOLed at Elijah getting interested in Hayley so quickly when he finds out about the pregnancy cause... yeah it's very transparent it's about his Klaus-issues lmao. But yeah, although I'm not a fan of Haylijah this aspect of it, imo, caused more performative anger in fandom than anything else. People have certainly loooooooooved ships involving guy #2 getting with his brother's love interest before. I mean. This is TVD c'mon.
As you said I'm not the biggest fan of the Mikaelson as a "uwu family always and forever us against the world thing" the fandom loved or the show sometimes tried to push (although the truth came out every time lol), but this kind of dysfunctional shit? My jam, anon xD

Rebekah/Marcel vs Hayley/Elijah
Ok, I’m willing to get past Rebekah/Marcel, because:
They aren't blood. They aren't really blood.
(If I understand this correctly) Marcel had a brush on Rebekah (his first crush), Rebekah was daggered, Marcel become a vampire, and after decades they were reunited and those feelings became very real.
edit: just realised that was kind of off. He did know her even through is growing period, which I admit, does make me like them a little less, but I can still look past that.
He never really saw her as his aunt
They had multiple periods when they weren’t together. Yet despite that, whenever they did meet again, they still continued to love each other. Even after those 50 years, they still loved each other, and even after centuries without each other again, you can still clearly see that they like each other. So those time-skips really help. Because it shows that they had a chance to grow away from each other, but in the end, they still love each other (and I really liked that about this ship)
Again, mostly, because they aren't blood
But I can not get past Hayley/Elijah:
She was frickin pregnant with his brother’s kid when they met
Hope. Do you have ANY idea how F-ed up that would make the kid. Like imagine being a child, and having no idea what to call this man. You uncle, or your step-father. And I really hate this idea of Hope calling Elijah even her step-father, because Elijah ALWAYS had a problem staying in his lane when it came to Hope. Like you ARE NOT her father, Klaus is. Remember him, the brother whose throat you were literally trying to shove the baby down.
I just don’t like Hayley, period. I don’t think she’d make a good mikaelson. She’s too “anti-mikaelson” and to “anti-vampire”. Katherine, now she’d be an AMAZING Mikaelson.
Even if you look past the Mikaelson thing, they just weren’t a good fit, personality wise. I mean personality wise, Katherine and Elijah would get along great, they actually have that whole opposites-yet-similar thing going for them. Well Gia, she was a good fit in the sense she was fresh, and strong, she was actually that perfect sense of “opposites-attract” (she was a successful “tomish-boy” Hayley, just with some class, and a lot more likeable). Well Antoinette was classy, nice, strong - they were a perfect match).
So despite Marcel/Rebekah falling more into the actual incest category, I can actually ship them 100x more than Hayley/Elijah.

OC - Faith Henrietta Mikaelson portrayed by Vanessa Morgan
In the series Mikaelson Trio, a witch did a spell and things for the Mikaelsons got complicated. The vampires in the compound were suddenly able to have children. Faith is the daughter of Marcel and Rebekah. She is an empath witch that was born with vampire blood running through her veins. Rebekah's dream for a thousand years was to find love and be able to have children. When Faith is born, she gets her name from the blonde's continued Faith that something would change.
