🎥 💥 BREAKING IN HOLLYWOOD: Hundreds of LA Jews and allies are shutting down Hollywood Blvd in the rain to demand an end to the Israeli government and military’s genocide of Palestinians. We’re staging an emergency sit-in at the beginning of rush hour and won’t leave until Biden and Congress say CEASEFIRE NOW.

We’re interrupting business as usual. The lives of 2.2 million Palestinians and 240 Israeli hostages in Gaza are in peril. The Israeli and US governments are endangering them in our names, using US-made bombs and billions of our tax dollars.

Gaza is an open-air prison only ¼ the size of the city of Los Angeles with nearly ⅔ the number of people. It is under a 16-year blockade that has only grown worse as the Israeli government has cut off all access to food, water, electricity, and medicine. The Israeli military has dropped the equivalent of 2 nuclear bombs on Gaza, murdering over 11,000 Palestinians — 4,600 of them children — and threatening the lives of its own citizen hostages, for whom all of this violence is supposedly justified. The lives and fates of Palestinians and Jewish Israelis are intertwined, and we’re fighting for the safety that can only come when everyone is free.

We’re here in Hollywood, a site of historic labor organizing and, at its best, storytelling that speaks truth to power. As LA Jews, we seek to build on this legacy — of which Jewish creatives have often been part, and for which many have historically been blacklisted and censored. But today, we refuse to be silenced, and we say, never again for anyone.

We are joined by entertainment industry workers of all stripes — including @alanahadid, @zoelisterjones, @mustafathepoet, @doitlikedua, @jamilawoods, @marawilson, @behjonce, and @sandyhonig. We are joined by activists from local movements who connect their struggles in LA to those of Palestinians, including @LAtenants and @blmlosangeles.

The film and media industries play a role in perpetuating — and could play a role in ending — genocide and war. Today, we invoke our collective imagination to envision a just future of freedom and safety for all, beginning with ceasefire and hostage exchange now.

- El actor Danny DeVito no solo dirigió y protagonizó la película de Matilda (Mara Wilson), sino que la cuidó y prácticamente adoptó durante el rodaje. La madre de la pequeña actriz fue detectada con cáncer de mama y, al no poder cuidarla, Danny y su esposa decidieron ayudarla durante su difícil situación familiar. Hicieron un cine en casa, comían y jugaban con ella, la hicieron parte de su familia. Luego de un largo y doloroso proceso, lamentablemente su madre falleció. A Mara le afectó mucho que su madre no pudiera ver la película que estaba grabando, pues se trataba de una adaptación de un libro que ellas amaban, sin embargo, ella no contaba con el gran corazón de Danny. De Vito le contó que fue personalmente al hospital días antes que falleciera su madre a mostrarle el primer corte sin editar, de hecho fue la primera en ver la película.

Al final del día, Danny fue el peor padre en la pantalla, pero el mejor en la vida real. ✨
