Another thing I'm really tired of hearing from so-called "Leftists" who say China is the biggest polluter on Earth, completely absurd. The world's biggest polluter by a mile is the United States, and no country on the planet is doing more to develop clean, green energy production and green manufacturing than China.
Historically, the United States has produced the most CO2 emissions globally.
China on the other hand has invested in more than 80% of all clean energy manufacturing on the planet.
China also produces more Solar power than the next ten countries COMBINED.
Further, China is on track to produce more solar panels this year than the total installed by the United States in the history of photovoltaic solar panels.
There's just no comparison, China takes Climate Change and green production FAR more seriously than the United States or its allies in the Western bloc.

An ID card that appears to belong to a Chinese prisoner was found inside the lining of a coat from the British brand Regatta, raising concerns that the clothing was manufactured using prison labour.
The waterproof women’s coat was bought online by a woman in Derbyshire in the Black Friday sale. When it arrived on 22 November, she could feel a hard rectangular item in the right sleeve, which restricted the movement of her elbow.
After cutting into the coat to remove the item, she discovered what looked like a prison identification card, with a mugshot of a man apparently in a prisoner’s uniform in front of a height chart, and the name of the prison in China.
“You don’t expect it from [Regatta]. It’s a UK brand that’s up there with Next, with M&S, that you put your children in their clothes … and this happens, and it just makes you feel really uneasy and uncomfortable,” said the woman, who does not wish to be named.
The card was found inside a plastic holder embossed with the words: “Produced by the Ministry of Justice prisons bureau.”

According to Regatta’s 2023 modern slavery statement, “forced or imprisoned labour is prohibited” in its supply chain and it is a member of the Ethical Trading Initiative, a membership organisation that requires adherence with certain guidelines, including a ban on “forced, bonded or involuntary prison labour”. The statement also says 70 factories were audited in 2022-2023, although it is unclear how many were in China.

Rewatching the 90s live action Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie, a nice little touch is that they go out of their way to establish that the evil ninjas are not Japanese (except the Shredder) and that the Japanese-American community has actually been warning the authorities about the evil Foot Clan.
I don't know how many people remember this, but in the 80s/90s in America there was a lot of anxiety / prejudice towards Japan, which was perceived as this mysterious place full of workers who were "too" efficient compared to lazy Americans and thus were going to crush the American car industry or something.
Specifically, I remember an American car dealer (as in he sold American car brands like Fords or Chevys) who ran a local ad urging people to "buy American" instead of supporting "communist Japan."
Shoutout to the journalist back then who covered the story / called him out on his prejudice + pointed out that Japan was not a communist country. No matter the era, there were / are people pushing back against stupidity and bigotry. And you can be one of them. :)
Anyway, TMNT is a great movie.

To combat this, Rubio wants to both subject existing tariffs on all Chinese companies, regardless of whether they build the vehicles elsewhere (the Closing Auto Tariffs Loopholes Act) and add a new flat $20,000 tariff on all Chinese vehicles (Strengthening Tariffs on Chinese Autos Act). Finally, the American Subsidies for American Autos Act would require compliance with USMCA for any Mexican-made vehicle to be eligible for tax credits(..)
P.S. Tariffs will not save US and European legacy car manufacturers, because outdated companies don't make a competitive product - electric cars...

#okay its bc we were at this store and my father was buying a long sleeve polo and we went to some designer store#i already dont trust these stores and i dont know the general price of long sleeve polo shirts off the top of my head#but the guys that were trying to sell it to us was like theyre expensive bc theyre imported in dubai!#but they were manufactured in dubai by saying that youre admitting youre just paying for plane fuel 💀 not quality#and i said “yh its probably made in china whats the point whats new” but they never said anything#by designer store i mean its just a bunch of designer stuff in those glass jewelry displays and stacked in bookshelves#but idk if it's even genuine#also my father doesn't care about designer or brand name he just wants long sleeve polo shirts 😭

seeing as december's a day away and that means ~holiday season~- i have a bunch of old binders of various makes & sizes (some idk origin, a few gc2b, anywhere from XS to L?, diff colours/types) that i wld love to give to ppl who need them. i can update this l8r with more details but ig i was wondering if anyone wld be interested or knows anyone in need? id be willing to ship within canada, maybe to the USA for small enough pckg. otherwise i'll just donate to a local binder exchange but i figured this way if anyone is in particular need it's nice to know im directly helping ig!

One would not know it from the Democratic obsession with a “just transition” away from fossil fuels, but America’s contribution to global greenhouse gases is relatively small and has fallen rapidly over the past two decades. In other words, even if the US achieved Biden’s unrealistic decarbonisation goals, most global greenhouse gas emissions would be unaffected.
Politicians are always vulnerable to the tendency to try to promote multiple unrelated goals with a single piece of legislation. Franklin Roosevelt’s National Recovery Act (1933) had good elements, but collapsed because it tried to stimulate the depressed economy and restructure American industry at the same time. With the IRA, Biden and congressional Democrats indulged in a similar temptation. Here, just one piece of legislation was supposed to accelerate the “green transition” away from fossil fuels to Net Zero, onshore manufacturing supply chains that have been lost to China and other countries, create great numbers of well-paying new jobs, revitalise “left-behind” local communities, and promote racial and gender “justice”.
