And we come to the end of Round Two! In Round One, Revolutions earned itself 147 votes. Now, it’s up against A Distortion; lots of questions surrounding identity to think about in this match.

I don’t know if you’ve answered this before, but what are your favorite TMA episodes?
all of them? okay:
MAG 3 Across the Street - this is the only episode that genuinely scared me. fucked up evil imposters who look and act nothing like you but only certain people can tell and everyone else believes is and was always the real you? ugh. awful.
MAG 15 Lost John's Cave - the concept of the episode itself is already pretty frightening, but the ending is CHILLING. 'take her not me'. fuck my entire life.
MAG 31 First Hunt - i just really liked listening about how some posh british guy got chased by a werewolf. also the fact that hunters can shrug off gunshots to the chest... cool, but jesus christ.
MAG 36 Taken Ill - nothing in the podcast fucked me up more than the moment i realized that the funeral director cut off her hand to stop the Corruption from spreading
MAG 67 Burning Desire - agnes and jack's story is just so tragic to me :(
MAG 77 The Kind Mother - more horrifying supernatural imposters! the fact that the fake monster mother was nicer than the real one was so fucked up
MAG 111 Family Business - GERRY EPISODE <3
MAG 119 Stranger and Stranger - i've talked about it in more detail before but i really enjoyed the different format of this one. also tim :(((
MAG 150 Cul-De-Sac - the only episode that made me cry. also the description of the endless empty streets and houses was awful and made me feel sick. fantastic episode.
MAG 153 Love Bombing - the real horror of this one wasn't anything supernatural but the cult and, as the statement giver says, how anyone is vulnerable to them. this episode was so good at portraying that.
MAG 159 The Last - no need to explain this one. i think we all lost our shit when we listened to 159.
MAG 165 Revolutions - best horror poetry about being eternally trapped on an evil merry go round where everyone claws each other's faces off i've ever listened to. also the famous smiting episode. what's not to love.
MAG 169 Fire Escape - i just think the desolation is neat
MAG 196 This Old House - hilltop road was one of the biggest mysteries in the podcast and the payoff did not disappoint

Can we talk about MAG 165 (Revolutions)???
Because I think we need to talk about MAG 165.
The whole statement is a poem?? A frankly excellent poem??? How long did it take Johnny to write that??? And read that??? It's amazing?? Hello?!? The spooky carnival music that kind of gives Ride the Cyclone vibes??? Honestly, the entire sound design of this episode is my favourite my word. And the return of Not!Sasha?? and the DEATH of Not!Sasha???
This is where "Ceaseless Watcher, turn your gaze upon this wretched thing" is from???? AND NO ONE TOLD ME?! And that line was somehow even MORE epic than I imagined?!
Pardon me, I may be a bit obsessed.

Top five TMA episodes? (I've been trying to do mine and it's So hard lol)
OUGH THANK YOU OMG BUT YEAH THIS IS HARD AF omg okokok I’m going to cheat and split this into favorite statements and then favorite plot/otherwise character driven episodes
Top 5 Statements
MAG 22 Hive (absolutely awakens every primal evil bone in my body. i LOVE how this ep portrays being an avatar)
MAG 152 A Gravedigger’s Envy (likewise makes me feral for avatars. a really excellent mix of desire that twists dark at the end. slurping this up like soup)
MAG 42 Grifter’s Bone (forever obsessed with the concept of music so achingly good you have to kill people about it. Jonny was so inspired for this)
MAG 172 Strung Out (scared me deeper and more personally than any other episode, I think. I love how much it fucks with me lmao, I did a whole cosplay for this ep)
MAG 15 Lost John’s Cave (just so rawly fucked up. that found audio???? what the FUCK was happening in s1. unparalleled fear)
Top 5 Episodes for other reasons!
MAG 81 A Guest for Mr. Spider (just the tastiest jon lore reveal episode ever. it’s so good i am kissing him for real)
MAG 187 Checking Out (WELCOME TO THE HOTEL CALIFORNIA MOTHERFUCKER— no fr this was such a delightful catharsis to Helen’s antics and Jon was SO sexy in it. my god. this is so close for the top spot)
MAG 79 Hide and Seek (the first ep that really made me like category 10 Unwell about this podcast. the buildup of the not!sasha and everything finally culminating in a high stakes chase??? MWAH)
MAG 111 Family Business (GERRY AND JON!!!! also just an excellent rundown of all the lore; super cathartic)
165 Revolutions (THE HOT JON MOMENT OF ALL HOT JON MOMENTS 👁👄👁 plus an absolutely awesome poem statement, just a super fun and creative ep all around)
Honorary mention from both categories:
MAG 168 Roots (Oliver Banks being the love of my fucking life for 24 minutes straight. he wrote a report. i love him)

mag 165 - revolutions
i wouldn't say that i don't get poetry, but i will say it's one of those things that just don't come naturally to me. i prefer prose - something about those linebreaks just fucks with my flow. still, whilst i might be shit at writing it, i can quite enjoy reading it, and style wise i adore this episode. it's perfectly creepy and circular and just slightly nonsensical and it makes me feel a lot in regards to the idea of identity and the fleeting nature of it but it's so hard to put into coherrent thoughts
season 5 continues to deliver excellent interactions between jon and martin. their dynamic is such a highlight, and all of their conversations manage to add a bit of lightness even when they mostly consist of exposition or don't contain anything that's necessarily comedic. they just mesh really, really well. i easily get really frustrated with shows that are constantly serious and miserable with no hint of levity or even emotion, and jon and martin as a couple and as a duo does a great job of balancing out the more horrific parts
also, here jon finally gets some real, actual power, and a choice of what to do with that power. yeah, he's still a puppet, but he gets to a few things of his own will, and the whole smiting thing gives a really interesting new perspective on his character. because whilst he's always struggled with power and morality, this whole adventure is where he actually really gets an active choice. he struggles between reality and his own moral compass, and what he feels and wants. and him letting in to his desire for revenge just to imediatley freak out when he registers what he's done is the start of what's a fascinating internal struggle for him throughout large swaths of the season

do you have a favorite tma episode? :)
I’m so sorry this took me so long to get too, I just had a hard time trying to pick?!?
I couldn’t choose so now I’m gonna make it everyone else’s problem in this text response.
Like ok, the first that always comes to mind is MAG 65: Binary and MAG 74: Fatigue.
Binary because the thought of an Internet creepypasta being a real actual thing that exists in universe is the funniest thing imaginable.
Also how lovely the story is told! God such a good episode.
But like, there’s also Fatigue which like, keeps popping up in my mind low key only because there was a Uquize that gave you “what statement giver you are” and I got Lydia Halligan for ep 74 and it’s stayed rent free in my head so now it’s one of the few episodes that pop up in my head when someone asks.
Also that and you can feel the fact the jonny wrote this sleep deprived, bless.
I also, unfortunately, live in a constant state of fatigue so much relations to be had 😔.
BUT WAIT!!! THERES MORE???
Yes there’s more I love horror.
MAG 177: Wonderland is my absolute #1 fear and actually concern irl so I tend to actually really like and really relate to it? Like my body is in pain a good percentage of my time alive and more things keep popping up that are Concerning!™️ but going to the doctor about it gives me pause because of past experiences. I’ve also straight up broke down when I came home once because of anxiety and the fact that I Hate Being Touched And Doctor Had to Poke And Prod At Me And I Didn’t Like How I Was Spoken Too And So Much More ;-;. It’s just a good episode that Hits, me, in the face, at Full Speed!!!
Other eps I like for no other reason other then “Vibes Hard” are 24: Strange Music, 81: A Guest For Mr. Spider (huh I Wonder Why), 87: The Uncanny Valley (lmao), and 22: Colony (lmao I wonder why that one as well)
Also another I like for funny reasons is MAG 165: Revolutions because of someone on tumblr put the statement to a lowfi beat and it fucking ruled.
There are probably more that I might like more but it’s been a while since I’ve listened as I have the “can’t really pay attention or enjoy anything I like lately if I’ve already heard it before even if I really really really like said thing” disease. Which I believe comes from the depression side of my ADHD :/
(This has also started to effective my enjoyment of new things as well. :( man :( my brain sucks :(...)
So my rule of thumb is, if I remember it and it’s not the first few eps then it’s up there on my list!!! :D (because the first eps are truly sooooooooosososo good!) I also left out any that just had moments I liked after the statements as I wanted to focus on the statements and horror stories themselves! Not just for my undying admiration and love for Asexual King Jon Jarchivist J Jim’s and Martin Kartin Blackwood. Oh how I love them dearly <3
I can however tell you the ep I absolutely can not listen to again tho!!!
No matter how many time I relisten (or attempt to, stupid brain) I can never listen to MAG 6: Squirm ever again! I just can’t! My sex-repulsed ass was already second-guessing listening when I heard the episodes description for the first time. And then it got worse as I listened because EW GOD NO WHY EW. Like ew god the implications??? 😨 like I already think it’s gross but the worms make it more gross and horrifying. I already remember all the relevant information form the first time around! I don’t need another go! thank you! Have a good day!
Also side note, not anywhere near my favorite or least favorite (tho I can still relisten to it, mag 6 is the only one I can’t) but MAG 172: Strung Out scares me. Not in a “I relate to this” kind of way, I have never done a drug in my life and find it to be a waist of my time, hell I don’t even drink for the same reason. (Plus looking at my ADHD and some of my heritage, I’d be much more prone to addiction anyways.) To me it’s a waist of time and money and not something I care for as, surprise! I don’t like losing or being out of my own control! This ep scares me the same way it would probably scare Mr. GhostHunter Shane Madej.
Anyways! There’s my TMA episode thought! :D

Ough thinking about mag 165 revolutions. So good. So tasty. Poetry as a manifestation of the constant shifting nature of identity. The fear of misunderstanding and no one understanding you. Yes. Yes. It’s about the MEDIUM.
