MAG 026-030 // Still Accepting
Cole pursed his lips as he assessed the judgement Kaaras laid before him. Bravest person in the world, that was hardly a fair comparison. Cole didn’t know every person in the world, and appraising every one of their hearts was impossible. What he did know was that not every person in the world could run an Inquisition. Not every person in the world stood up for the small, spoke for the voiceless, and tried to heal the hurt. In fact, he knew of a great many who did none of those things. That took bravery.
“You seem brave to me.”
“Bravery isn’t a lack of fear, it’s acting in spite of it.”
Kaaras looked at the young man. Such words of wisdom, from a boy of what? Early 20′s, if at all? Kaaras didn’t actually know how old Cole was, but he also had to remember that Cole was not... human. Or at least, not entirely, and had lived a life who knew how long before he had taken over the boy’s body.
“I suppose you’re right,” he replied with a soft smile. “Bravery wouldn’t be what it was if we weren’t scared, after all.” He looked at Cole, a curious expression moving over his face.
“Do you still fear, Cole? Not... like the Cole before you, being cold and ill, locked away in a cage. But... now, as you are?” He considered Cole a person, even if he had been a spirit. Kaaras still saw spirits as people, they were just different to what was considered ‘normal’. And what was normal anyway?
