I could probably write a long essay about Lost Johns' Cave, and maybe I will someday. That episode fucks so hard. As a claustrophobe who is both fascinated and horrified by caving I am its #1 target demographic. The way the cave is described is so beautiful. They way squeezing through those tiny tunnels is described makes me nauseous. It's also a fascinating episode because Laura Poham is probably the least reliable narrator in any statement. Pretty much everything she says either isn't true or is twisted somehow. It's still not fully clear to me if she's deliberately lying or if she genuinely beleives her version of what happened. I lean towards the latter because you shouldn't really be able to lie in a statement. Although I don't know if that's ever explicitly stated. Maybe it is possible, especially in written statements where the statement giver is under the influence of the Eye but not being directly compelled. Oliver does also lie about his name in Dreamer. I'm gonna be on the lookout for more instances of statement givers lying as I do my slow re-listen.

For Episode 15: Lost Johns’ Cave

I’ve been thinking about how Jon knows the video from Laura’s camera “is 2 hours and 43 minutes long and the audio is consistent throughout.” How that means Jon had to listen to the whole video, to see if there was anything else in it. Even hearing the 13 second clip chilled me more than anything else in the statement, and Jon had to listen to that for TWO HOURS and FORTY THREE MINUTES. (Yes, if you click the link it will take you to where I used the audio clip to recreate the full length video.) Anyway, I couldn’t stop thinking about that, so I drew a picture of it.

The selection of the Swedish Frida Johansson two posts before and its unbelievable almost...100 000 notes (!!!!) is the opportunity for me to speak about a problem. It deserves to be in YWAMag and that’s why it is here. But, without any offense to Frida, a very good Swedish photographer who has often been in the mag for years, it has nothing revolutionary. I’ll take several brilliant photographers who are on Tumblr and who have big YWAMag galleries :

-Me (sorry ! By the way, you haven’t seen me in the mag since a Tumblr change about 4 years ago for a technical reason) : I have never had more than 200 notes or something like that, during my first Tumblr years (2 015, mainly) when I was not boycotted yet especially by Lensblr, so my rare selections there reached that score. My notes’ amount is usually between 25 and 80. I have exhibited about ten times, in 4 capital cities. This to say that Tumblr/web success has nothing to see with real value, and with the stuff you do for your professional work and recognition.

-Peter Solarz (USA) : his Tumblr has started to have success only about three years ago, with some images reaching thousands of notes, always processed nature images. A specific photographer like me, not aiming what is called the extraordinary, but mainly composition and to transcend the things people don’t see.

-Purple Time Space Swamp (USA) : as Peter and me, based on composition. Unknown here and there, except by the mag. Usually has between 0 notes and 5.

-Peter Pollmanns (Dothob, Germany) : comparable to all of us, especially to me and Peter. Brilliant, kind of same notes’ ratio as me. Counter-example : the young Finnish Mila Mai, spectacular landscapes, huge amount of notes, often thousands. Harassed by a young Finnish looney, finally erased her Tumblr and disappeared about three years ago. It seems that she came back with a pseudonym but I couldn’t swear. @a-mag-a-day From the sound of it, this episode gets to everybody a little bit. As a claustrophobe and diver, this one is kind of my idea of hell. Which isn’t to say it isn’t an excellent episode, it’s just…. Too good, for me. Not one I come back to for fun.

parang stress na stress na naman ako sa buhay ko ngayon shuta. stress sa relationships with friends, workmates and finances. lagi nalang negative energy narerelese ko tuwing tatambay ako dito huehue. asan na yung mga positive energy ko or ni minsan ba meron? haha. ano na dadawen?

alam ko favorite month ko ang December e, pero parang medyo hate ko siya ngayon haha. ang gastos pala nung event na pinaka hihintay ko sa work—yung year end gala namin. parang kulang ang 10k na budget, seriously haha. nagpa tahi pa ako ng gown kasi ayoko nung mga design ng mga gown rentals, ayaw ko rin naman mag order sa shein kasi paano kung may makapareho ako, edi awkward. haha.

tsaka narealize ko, never din pala talaga ako nag rent ng nasuot na ng iba, laging pinapatahi ko like nung nag debut ako, ultimo graduation at kasal ng bestfriend kong si chi lahat yun yung gusto kong design. ang arte diba haha.

hirap din pala mag hanap ng make up artist, inisip ko narin na kaya ko naman mag ayos sa sarili ko, pero wala akong materials. e hindi naman ako laging nag heheavy make up kahit aalis lang ng bahay o nasa work, sunscreen at kilay tsaka konting lipstick lang naman ginagamit ko lagi kaya ayoko bumili, ganun din naman magagastos kung kukuha nalang ako ng HMUA so I decided to book one. buti nalang may nakita akong maganda ang gawa na reasonable ang price. hehe.

problema ko pa kung mag checheck in kami sa hotel. kasi hindi accessible yung event place namin [The Oriental Hotels - Legazpi] pataas pa siya, ang hirap pa naman dito kasi walang taxi, may grab naman na pero di ko sure kung madali makapag book. ang layo pa naman namin dun. so baka need talaga namin mag check in since gagabihin din kami for sure.

uuwi pa akong Manila sa Christmas break namin, syempre another gastos sa pamasahe. at syempre sa mga inaanak na naman at for sure ano pa bang gagawin ko dun kundi mag gala at i-meet yung mga friends ko.

so for conclusion [taray, may pa conclusion haha] next year pag iipunan ko na talaga ng bongga ang month of December. para kahit hindi ako mag abang ng 13th month pay, may mahuhugutan ako agad.

di pa naman namin pinag uusapan pero baka kasi bigla namin maisipan na mag rent nalang sa Legazpi kasi nahihirapan nako maka uwi minsan, tsaka para mas matuto pa kami pano mag budget talaga, hirap din kasi talaga ng nakiki sabit. hehe.

After one year of pause, Yes We Are Magazine has now been back but only on Tumblr for more than three months, daily as usual. The Fb version is unfortunately still on pause as it’s my disappeared wife and collaborator Anne Pangolin Guéno who has the keys and refuses to give them when it’d be very nice for all of us to have the Fb version of the mag functioning.

For the newcomers, just watch a few pages to get the stuff, what it’s about, the level, the style, the spirit. And/or go to the “about”.

It’s mainly a photo magazine without a lot of blah blah, and mainly compositional analyses when they have to be made - yet all the main directions have been explained in this field over the years, so I don’t have much to say about it now.

For the visual artists (mainly painters) : you are welcome, as usual. The feature which had existed in 2 018/19 (The Tri-Weekly Most Successful YWAMag selection) has been back for several weeks. From 2 015 to 2 018 or 19 I have had 4 collaborators with their Weekly Selection. This feature is gonna be back soon with a newcomer. The files still have to be sent here between 1Mb and 4. All secure, no one has ever complained about that.

The interviews, of which you can see some on ISSUU, are waiting for Anne’s come back. I don’t have the graphic design skills to make the visual part.

For Episode 15: Lost Johns’ Cave

There are so many scary moments in this statement (when Laura is stuck momentarily in the squeeze, when she tries to surface from the dive and keeps hitting stone, and at the end when she finds herself blocked off on all sides and unable to move), but the part that gets to me the most is the audio clip from her in the cave that gets played at the end of the episode.

The fact that it apparently goes on for 2 hours and 43 minutes exactly like that, and that Jon had to watch and listen to all of it (to check whether there really was anything else in the video) is chilling.

So of course I decided to take that clip and make it into the full video Jon describes!

The story of this image by the Serbian Jupiter Ovpstren in YWAMag is unbelievable. I’m gonna explain... Right after my text of the 20 June 2 023 with the reblog of a 2 019 Peter Solarz’ text about me and YWAMag, my text explaining the Tumblr boycott on me, my wife and partner Anne Pangolin Guéno and the mag in spite of our high artistic level and all I have been doing for art here and elsewhere since 2 008, Peter was on the Tumblr radar again, as it happened three or four times in the last years. Being on this radar or in its variation, “Tumblr Today”, brings a lot of likes, reblogs and follows. These things are not just “web glory”, for professional artists like me, web glory can bring money. Thus, obviously, political boycott “unbrings” money. A few days after (27 June 2 023), it’s Jupiter’s image which was on Tumblr Today, which brought the image one of the main amounts of likes and reblogs EVER in the mag, that’s to say since 2 015 on Tumblr - I’ll remind that the mag is a daily publication and has had more than 50 000 selections on Tumblr for hundreds of artists. It’s the FIRST IMAGE OR IMAGE OF VISUAL ARTWORK EVER among my thousands of pictures posted on my two personal Tumblrs  since 2 012, the few hundreds of posts of Anne (painter and designer) and the selections of YWAMag on Radar or Tumblr Today which is not a mosque image.
