is it weird to just answer the ask meme questions without actual asks? probably, but i want to yell about fandom shit rn so you can't stop me

A - Ships that you currently like a lot. its obvious that im in a grimm fixation rn, so i have to say nick/monroe as a romantic ship (or nick/monroe/rosalee), and the whole gang as a platonic relationship. For SGA, i'm always a mcshep fan but i honestly enjoy any pairing of AR1. Anyone that has followed me for an extended period of time knows that im a mcdanno (H50) and leverage ot3 truther as well.

B - A pairing–platonic, romantic or sexual–that you initially didn’t consider, but someone changed your mind. hmm, not sure? OH some folks doing the sga kinkmeme have mentioned john/cam and im very intrigued

C - A ship you have never liked and probably never will. Rodney/Jennifer :( I love Jennifer, but the writers consistently changed her characterization and that relationship felt forced and weird (SGA)

D - A pairing you wish you liked but just can’t. John/Elizabeth. I'm sorry! maybe its just because im gay af but to me their relationship felt like bffs, not romantic (SGA)

E - Have you added anything cracky/hilarious to your fandom? If so, what? I made that stargate cinnamon roll meme, if that counts

F - What’s the longest you’ve ever been in a fandom? ~10 years

G - Have you ever had an OTP? If so, do you remember your first one? Who was in it? i'm a multishipper for sure, but one of the first ships i remember really clearly was eric/ryan from csi miami (circa age like 12)

I - Has Tumblr caused you to stop liking any fandoms, if so, which and why? I dont know that it was entirely tumblr, but yeah, Voltron. The fandom was truly fucking awful

J - Name a fandom you didn’t think about until you saw it all over Tumblr. (You don’t have to care about it or follow it; it just has to be something that Tumblr made you aware of.) uhhhh, like every show tbh. 99% of the shows i watch came from tumblr or online friends

K - What character has your favorite development arc/the best development arc? Eliot Spencer (Leverage)

L - Say something genuinely nice about a character who isn’t one of your faves. hmm, I guess Adalind counts as a character who isnt one of my faves. She's a complex and interesting character, and its clear that a lot of her decisions come from a place of trauma. After having Diana it really shows that she does want to protect her and keep her safe (grimm)

M - Name a character that you’d like to have for a friend. Ronon (SGA), Hardison (Leverage), Teal'c (SG1), etc

N - Name three things you wish you saw more or in your main fandom 1. men showing emotions!!! (grimm does this well, thankfully) 2. on a similar note: depicting how the shit these characters get up to is traumatizing and how that impacts them long term 3. literally any canon queer rep. can we PLEASE have a show like stargate or grimm where one of the characters (especially a man) is canonically queer? is that so hard???

O - Choose a song at random. Which ship or character does it remind you of? Forfeit by Rise Against always makes me think of ascended Daniel/Jack (SG1). Oh and ever since i saw a gifset with lyrics from it, Timberwolves at New Jersey by Taking Back Sunday makes me think of John (SGA)

P - Invent a random AU for any fandom (we always need more ideas). one of these fuckin days i am going to write a baseball SGA AU

Q - A fandom you’ve abandoned and why. As previously mentioned: Voltron because the fan base was toxic and awful

R - Which friendship/platonic relationship is your favorite in fandom? all my favorite fandoms are themed around found family so this is so hard lmao. Nick & Hank (Grimm), Eliot & Harry (Leverage Redemption), Harry & Breanna (LR), Don & Charlie if brothers count (Numb3rs), etc

S - Show us an example of your personal headcanon anyone who reads my H50 fics knows that i will fuckin die on the hill that Danny has an anxiety disorder

T - Do you have any hard and fast headcanons that you will die defending? besides anxious danny, I'd say John having ADHD (SGA), and Monroe being bi (Grimm) are two right off the top of my head

U - Three favorite characters from three different fandoms, and why they’re your favorites 1. Steve McGarrett (H50) - he's been through so much shit, but he's still so damn loyal and protective and kind. He's such a good dude who is just traumatized beyond belief. 2. Charlie Eppes (Numb3rs) - besides the fact that i am CONVINCED he has ADHD, he's just so fucking loving and passionate about his work and the people he loves. he balances out the hardness of Don and the gang with the sheer size of his heart 3. Eliot Spencer (Leverage) - basically the same reason as steve. I have a type.

V - Which character do you relate to most? this is tough. probably Daniel (SG1) - esp early seasons - because of similar worldviews and interests and personalities, and Danny (H50) because of similar personalities

W - A trope which you are virtually certain to hate in any fandom. MISCOMMUNICATION!! its so frustrating.

X - A trope which you are almost certain to love in any fandom. im a big ol softie so i love stuff like mutual pining, hurt/comfort, etc.

Y - What are your secondhand fandoms Good Omens is a big one rn lmao. I've read the book but haven't watched the show. Also, Daredevil probably. I watched at least the first season years ago, but haven't seen anything beyond that. I still enjoy seeing people's posts about it and i read fic sometimes

Z - Just ramble about something fan-related, go go go! im so cranky rn about the lack of depiction of trauma/mental illness/neurodivergence/etc in fandoms where its to be expected. like with Grimm rn, you give Nick PTSD and sensory enhancements but then suddenly forget about them?? that's not how that works! Or why is it always just hinted at that characters are ND? why is it so hard to just be like 'yeah no x has ADHD (or whatever)'? i want to be able to actually have complex/tough/interesting/etc protags that are ALSO neurodiverse. if we're all reading John as having ADHD (SGA) or Parker being autistic (leverage) anyways, why can't these things just be intentionally part of the character

10. Cltr+f "blinks" on your WIP & copy paste the first sentence/paragraph that comes up

there are... 28 instances of 'blinks' in the roughly 28k of state of disrepair. a 0.001% prevalence isn't as bad as I thought. Let's see about the incidence (rate of new cases over time).

The one closest to where I was last writing:

“I did it for you. You know that, right?” Danny blinks at him, because he can’t even come up with a coherent question in response to that. Steve flexes his hands, like maybe better words are hidden inside his palms, and tries – unsuccessfully – with, “For my brain. For you.”

18. Do you title your fics before, during, or after the writing process? How do you come up with titles?

A bit of all of those - rarely before, but same sitch as you, sometimes there's either really long descriptive titles ('The Annoying, Infuriating, Irritating, (Effective) Seduction Techniques of One Steven J. McGarrett' comes to mind in the WIP folder) or fics prompted by very specific songs/lyrics that get titled at the start (Finding A Cure In You I think was one of the latter, and... state of disrepair (whose full name is 'you're in a state of disrepair, you're an answer to my prayers') might have been too, actually).

Usually it's either during or after, though, and which one of those usually depends solely on how long it takes me to write it. If it's quick enough that I do have to actively Come Up with a title instead of it being hand-delivered by either goblins or musicians in the intervening time, it's usually either a) going through my relevant ship playlist looking for a relevant lyric (singing yesterday's songs wishing i could be with you tonight, basically all my McDanno codas) or b) a lot of googling of idioms with relevant keyword/s (Calling The Shots, a lot of my original stories including the one I wrote last weekend, which ended up being called Sea Change. or the one I wrote for the same comp in the round before, Running On Empty) or c) staring at the doc trying to think of relevant objects / themes / verbs that seem vaguely title-ish (To Love (Verb, Transitive), Centrefolds / Distal Breaks)

22. Are there certain types of writing you won’t do? (style, pov, genre, tropes, etc)

Tragedy. I think I've told you specifically this story before, but I was doing my favourite writing competition a few years ago, and the prompt in one round was 'write a tragedy where no-one dies', and because I'd already skipped one round I made myself do it against all instincts and I. should not have done that. It was a perfectly good story but it also triggered a genuine three-day depressive episode in me, a person who does not have depression.

Other than that... I think between fanfic and original I have written most styles, povs, and genres without issue, and would be happy, or at least willing, to revisit most of them. Same for tropes - there's probably a fair few there I haven't written, but I can't think of any off the top of my head (other than ones necessitating tragedy) that I'd want to say never about.

59. Does anyone in your personal life know you write fic? if not, would you tell anyone?

Most people! I don't know that all my family know, but that's just because it hasn't come up - most of them do. In terms of telling new people, it's mostly dependent on whether I think they know what it is and whether I want to go through explaining it - the fact that I write comes up semi-regularly in conversation with other med students, but sometimes that's talking one-on-one to someone in reasonably similiar circles to me who also writes as we walk from the hospital to the train station, and sometimes it's in a group of five people, three of whom have serious discussions about buying stocks, and we have a class in five minutes. y'know

74. You’ve posted a fic anonymously. How would someone be able to guess that you’d written it?

hm. i'm rambling in the author's notes? The content tags are randomly interspersed with also rambling tags. There's longsuffering hurt/comfort and it's just one step to the left of total canon compliance and. look, I probably do have a writing style. I'm faintly aware I do, I just don't actually know what makes it up. Feel free to tell me.

1. Lieutenant Edmundo Diaz—known to his family as Eddie or everyone else as Lt Diaz or just Diaz—sat in the copilot’s chair on the bridge listening to Flight Lieutenant Han, aka Chimney, grumble about their newest mission orders. from The First Spectre, 911/Mass Effect AU.

2. They buried Shannon on a Tuesday—she’d died the previous Thursday. from Sleepless in LA, 911/Sleepless in Seattle Valentine 2023 fic.

3. Memory is a funny thing. from Fragments and Fractals, 911 6b speculation/coda one-shot.

4. The cold seeped through Scott’s bones, chilling him through although he acted as if he didn’t notice it as he stood watch. from A Mage-Knight’s Tale, Mass Effect Andromeda MReyder Fantasy AU.

5. The years had made him cautious—but not overly so. from Bound by Blood, Mreyder Mass Effect Vampire/Werewolf AU.

10. October, in general, tended to get busier and weirder as the month went on, was Eddie’s general observation since moving to LA. from Eddie Diaz Ain’t ‘Fraid of No Ghost, Buddie Halloween fic 2022.

I am not at all surprised that my Teen Wolf stories top the list, because that fandom is ridiculously loyal—but check it out, #1 is a RAREPAIR, Danny/Stiles!

I will say technically #2, a Sterek fantasy oneshot, has had more kudos because it was taken down in 2015 for including quotes of too many Beatles lyrics. The podfic also has its own following!

I am very proud of #3, set during the Civil War; that was a big stretch, but a fun one to write.

#4 is our first Glee story, and that's a collab with someone who's even more prolific than I am (and a much better writer).

#5 is the sequel to #1 but was only recently completed.

#6, another Glee story, is the first in a trilogy I'm very proud of, with lots of theater references and canon compliance for most of the story.

#7 is my first McDanno fic, but really hit a chord in the H50 fandom. I worked very hard to get Danny's character voice right, and it was satisfying to know I was able to achieve that.

#8 is another Teen Wolf rarepair, this time with a real horror backdrop, and that was also a good challenge for me, as I love horror fiction but had never written it.

#9 is a collab with one of my dearest friends and cowriters, @knittycat99. We always meant to continue writing the next part of the story, but life does intervene!

#10 is the first in a very adorable Puckurt fluff series.

10 of my fics I wish people would read:

The French Drop is based on the heist film Sneakers from 1992. It stars Robert Redford and Ben Kingsley. God, I love this movie, and I absolutely had to write this story, because they needed a happy ending, or as close to a happy ending as I could give them.

Auld Acquaintance is a collaborative D/s Puckurt written by myself and @beshrew-my-very-heart. It was a challenge to ourselves to see if we could write something short and complete, and we did! (Of course, we are now writing the much, much longer sequels.)

Dancing Through the Same Noise is a Glee Puckurt-to-Fuckurt patterned after an episode of How I Met Your Mother. It started light and funny and quickly got very serious. It has the advantage of having beautiful art (it was so beautiful that I purchased the original watercolored pen-and-ink sketch from the artist and had it shipped across the world to me).

So Tyrannous and Rough in Proof and A Trivial Comedy for Serious People are parts #2 and #3 of the These Magic Changes Puckurt series. I finished the series fairly recently, but I hope more Glee readers will go back and reread the whole thing, because I think it really hangs together very well.

Blue Rubber Band is a Puck-focused Puckurt AU one-shot based on a Regina Spektor song. It's about drug addiction and homelessnes, but is ultimately a hopeful story. There is also a podfic.

Gold Mine is a Glee Dave/Puck what-if story that is unbelievably sweet, sexy, and romantic—and monogamous and vanilla! I am really fond of it, mostly because canon totally supports this pairing and I think they would have been great together.

While We Got the Chance to Say is part of the enormous Glee Donutverse, but I think can be read as a stand-alone pretty well. It's a BDSM-flavored polyam love story focusing on Kurt and Adam Lambert (no, not Elliott Gilbert!). If you've ever wondered about the Donutverse and you would like to give it a try, this is a very glittery introduction.

Family First is a Glee Kurtofsky futurefic one-shot which I wrote during the two days of the 2020 election. It does deal with cancer and contains minor character death, but Dave's character arc centers around his friendship with Finn and the whole Hudson-Hummel family.

the soul slakes its thirst in fearless draught is a Finn/Dave/Kurt futurefic patterned after Cyrano DeBergerac. It is very romantic, with a smutty followup chapter.

Lucky Connection is a Dave/Finn story based on a Hallmark movie, so you can imagine just how sweet and romantic it is. There is zero smut, but a happy ending.

BONUS: the only fanvid I have ever made was completed a few weeks before Cory Monteith's untimely passing, so it is somewhat bittersweet, but I am still very proud of it.

A musical episode would have been amazing, hilarious, and on par with PL using it for views and thinking up stereotypical places to put his stars in and then continue to use or forget as needed.

Steve's whole's stage fright about the talent show made his main Rambostyle head character too weak in his eyes, and never mind that the fandom considered Danny getting him a guitar a proposal. RIP ever seeing Danny in the same room as Steve while he has his or anyone else's guitar in his hands.

If they did have a musical episode, it would have been the one time Scott Caan wasn't there(insult to injury given his actual experience in the music industry), but he would have given Tani and Junior a huge romantic duet that has songs or lyrics that fit 100000000% times better to McDanno

because he's that predictable.

Also yeah, I remember hearing about Scott’s rapping days. XD His baby face in music videos (plus the rapping of course) was great to see. I gotta look up the videos again cause it’s been a minute since I’ve seen them.

And PL would 100% give (I forgot their ship name) tani and Junior a love song fit for mcdanno. Mcdanno was the first ‘family oriented hothead + daddy issues navy guy.’ (I apologize for that description 😭 which might be inaccurate)

There’s soooo many similarities between mcdanno and tani/Junior but that’s a whole other post.
