summary of 5.17 'the stakeout'

Seriously?!

Tonight it was the time for the stakeout episode to be aired and holy cow! How could I forget it was that good? (probably because the quality levels of the writing in general, except for some brilliant instances, has been progressively decreasing since s4, with flatter characters, even shallower female figures, and almost haywire choices about mcdanno existence)

Not only for the mcdanno content, but for the sheer ability of just adding depth and nuances to characters with a single brush: Steve subtle critique against his family's inability to talk feelings while he needed to, and his positive envy for Danny's family; his suggested proclivity to panic and anxiety attacks (bc that's what he experienced over there at the talent show) which makes it even more amazing his results as a Navy SEAL, and at the same time explains so much about his ability to deal with Danny's, never belittling them but never letting him drown into them, either; Danny's attempts at finding always the positive side of everything Steve does even when it annoys him; Jerry!! Not being the usual ridiculous comic relief as in the asshole's scripts, but a genuinely caring, sensitive, empathetic human being who recognizes the solitude of the tiny, old lady, gets emotional about it, and actively tries to do something about it like probably he's always wished someone did for him.

No ok listen, this is unhinged but wtf?!? I mean, Danny who lives on a cop's wage and has a daughter to pay for and an expensive rent, and wtf now I understand why he only dates Amberlissa once every six months if he hasn't any money left, and his peak romanticism is a flower bouquet he probably ordered online and didn't even choose! and he listens to Steve, really listens to him and especially to what he isn’t saying, and just the day after he goes to a music shop, and Listen, kid, let's make it clear I know shit about guitars, but my bab—my partner, job partner, loves playing guitar, he's very good at it, "almost went down the professional path" good at it, you know what I mean? So here's the deal: you give me your best guitar, you give me the kind of guitar you'd give The Edge if he came here shopping....no offense kid, you know what I mean, he'd never come here but in case! In case, you give me the guitar you'd give him, you get it?!

Who says that Danny, Danny, Danny even before opening the case because he might not be playing anymore but sure as fuck knows his guitars. And that Danny, Danny, Danny almost chanted, almost singsonged, almost whispered like a man who's this close to breaking down and either cry or kiss Danny.

Because Danny's love language is words and Steve’s is gestures, but exactly because Danny knows his boy and knows him well (apart from proteins), and he knows what gift to him were those words, that confession, so he can go and speak Steve’s own love language

Definitely making progresses on communication.

Also. They should've let DDK and AOL hijack the whole series, write it, direct it, make it theirs. If this is the lesson.

Rewatch Party for Hawaii Five 0!

OK, so I did some research and we have several options for a rewatch party for Hawaii Five-0 on March 10 (Friday) The first step is for me to load the pilot and ten other episodes into google drive, second step is we then decide the second episode we want to watch (along with pilot) and then:

���OPTION 1: somebody streams the video in the discord server, and we can all watch and chat.

Problem 1 - I am a nomad and me trying to stream anything will be problematic in the location I will be camped in March. So somebody else would have to do the streaming.

Problem 2 - Discord can supposedly get very glitchy if you try to watch videos.

🌸OPTION 2: There are some apps that we can all download, so we dan stream google drive videos and still chat.

Problem 1 - you have to plug google drive into these apps and its supposedly kind of tricky.

Problem 2 - google drive is super glitchy on these apps.

🌸Option 3: Everyone just downloads the episodes, and then watches on their own device or screen, while we chat.

Problem 1 - Requires people to have two devices or do a split screen/corner screen, so they can watch and chat.

Problem 2 - We would have to decide where we want to chat. I think? the discord server would be easiest but we could also see if the mods at fan forum would allow us to make a discussion thread on the H50 forum.

I am thinking option 3 is easiest—and we just use discord—but what do y’all think? Any ideas or options I missed???

also, also I am currently aiming to have the pilot, plus the 10 most requested episodes, uploaded to google drive by mid-January so—I am still looking for the episodes everyone wants!

currently it looks like 2x10 (North Korea rescue) 3x6 (bomb episode) and 5x17 (stakeout episode) and 7x18 (school dance hostages) are pretty popular!

of course, if we can figure this out, then we can have other rewatch parties since we would need to watch the other 9 episodes, right?😄

A McDanno Guide to: Working on your relationship

Step 1: Attend therapy together, it’s a perfectly reasonable thing to do with you partner after all

Step 2: Commandeer an old lady’s flat to hang out with her cat together

Step 3: Work on your therapy homework like a good boy, even if your partner isn’t helping much

Step 4: Realise you’re not helping much and decide to open up to your partner. Wait for them to fall asleep first though (because he really is adorable when sleepy - not that you’d admit that out loud. Ever)

Step 5: Who needs therapy anyway? You two know each other better than anyone and will prove it with ridiculously sweet gifts and lingering, heartfelt looks.

Cannot believe in how lucky Danny is to be able to see this face everyday.

5.17/7.01 Kono Saying The Quiet Part Out Loud

These are two completely real lines that somehow made their way past CBS censors into the show. Except the second one doesn't show up in any of the subtitles/captions provided by CBS. But you can hear it clear as day so they actually recorded it in the ADR.

In both episodes Danny and Steve say 'I love you' to each other and the detractors could argue it's a platonic confession but then these lines spoken by Kono reframe it into romantic, but only if you paid attention in the first place. Schrödinger's romance. Mcdanno isn't romantic except when it is. Mcdanno is platonic except when it's not. They can say 'i love you' but that doesn't mean they are 'in love' unless they are. But we'll only say it in a blink and you'll miss off-camera line. Gay love fighting through the wall of homophobic censors to spill through the screen.

S: You know what, this whole passive-aggressive thing? I'm done.I'm tired. It's tired. D: All right, let's do aggressive-aggressive.

Wow I just found out Steve is an ESTJ. That’s fun because I am an ISTJ. Though I’m like 50% J and 50% P. Super fun. Also that explains a lot. 

Though I gotta side with Danny. I’m definitely a dog person. (Because I’m like really allergic to cats mainly.) But Steve becomes a dog person, so it’s okay.

10: favorite episode This is SUCH a hard question. I don’t think I could pick just one. Maybe I can narrow it down... 1x21- The “first date” Hiking episode. Steve taking Danny to the petroglyphs, like his father had taken him. Sharing something so deeply personal. Something cherished from his past. Then the playfulness and heart-eyes between them throughout the rest of the episode.

5x17- The Apartment stakeout episode. So many borderline domestic McDanno feels. Steve was so goofy. The heartfelt moment on the couch where Steve talked about the talent show. 6x13- The Surfing followed by Race back to HQ between The Core!Four. Steve and Danny’s back and forth once they get back to HQ. Steve and Danny’s Smile. The whole “peed in a bottle” bit. Just so fun.

7x19 - The Valentines Day Couple get away. There was SOOO much McDanno bonding and playing around. Poor Lynn and Amber lol. Did they spend any time with them alone?

8x10- Quarantine episode where Danny gets shot. Aside from the emotional roller-coaster of Danny getting shot an then finding the shooter we have Danny’s Dream, which I hold on to, and Steve’s Buzz cut.

9x07- The 1940′s AU. I loved this entire episode. Everything about it. It was funny, fun, and creative.

 I am sure that there are other but these are the ones the immediately come to mind.

18: do you remember your first impression about the show? Yes I do. I will fully admit that I started watching it for Alex and Scott. I felt the eye-candy would be worth it. However after the first episode I was hooked.I felt like it was going to fast paced and interesting. Intriguing and fun.

 26: favorite McDanno moment Oh this is impossible....Ok gun to my head probably a 50/50 between the first on-screen Mutual I love You after they get out of the building collapse in 4x19 and the hug after Danny is freed from the bomb in 3x06. Steve’s face...the tears, fear, and relief on his face as he looks at Danny.

37: favorite female character I don’t think I can pick just one. I love so many of them. Kono’s boldness, fierceness and gentle heart. Grace simply because I love her. Alicia because she was so badass. Mary was so funny and sweet. Fierce in her own way. Tani was funny, sarcastic and bold.  With the women of H50, for me, it was largely either love or hate with very little middle ground. Really the only ones I’m totally ambivalent toward were Rachel, Lynn, and Amber.

I basically love everything about this episode - but here I particularly love that Steve didn’t actually clear away the cat figurines.

He was totally happy to set up all the monitoring equipment around them and just leave them there to look at.

Such a cat dad.

He is even holding one (he was glueing it back together - but unless he has glued himself to it I’m not sure why he hasn’t let go!)

Headcanon: As evidenced by their trip to couple’s therapy in 6x11, when Steve McGarrett gets really drunk…he turns into a slutty flirt. His pansexual ass would flirt with a broom when he is in that state.
