Miraculous Chapter 9/27: Traitors

(In Marriott’s Grande Vista, Adrien’s group lays asleep. Adrien wakes up.)

ADRIEN: (YAWNS) Morning, guys.

(The group gives scattered “Good morning” greetings.)

ADRIEN: Let’s start putting Operation Bring Marinette Back to Paris underway. Markov?

(Markov scans all of Orlando.)

MARKOV: I have found her. She is now leaving a Panera Bread in Waterford Lakes Town Center with a new group of friends. They plan to visit ICON Park tonight.

ADRIEN: ICON Park. That’s right on this road. Heck, we passed that on the way here. That’s where we go tonight.

(Now, during the last rays of sundown, Marinette and her new friends enter ICON Park. Marinette gawks at the Orlando Eye glowing colorfully against the night sky. Around the park, guests notice Marinette and point her out. The group approaches the entrance to the wheel.)

LUNA-TK: Alright. You head on in and enjoy yourself. We’ll be on lookout for anyone crossing you.

MARINETTE: Okay. Thank you.

(She goes inside. Meanwhile, with Adrien’s group in their room…)

MARKOV: She has arrived at the park.

ADRIEN: Let’s go, people.

(Meanwhile, Marinette arrives at one of the wheel’s cars.)

MARINETTE: Thank you.

(She boards the wheel. Meanwhile, Adrien’s group arrives.)

ADRIEN: Okay. Everyone search high and low.

ADRIEN (O.S.): She could be anywhere in this busy park.

(In the wheel, Marinette arrives at the top and overlooks the area around her.)

MARINETTE: Wow.

TIKKI: I mean, Paris had great views during your time as Ladybug, but this is amazing.

MARINETTE: Right? My choice to stay here gets better with every hour.

(Below, Markov sees her.)

MARKOV: She is now preparing to get off of that wheel.

MAX: Affirmative.

(Meanwhile, Marinette gets out of her car and onto the platform.)

MARINETTE: That was so good.

TIKKI: So now what?

MARINETTE: We’re gonna meet back with the group and work it out.

(Now, Adrien and the group find her outside the Museum of Illusions.)

ADRIEN: There they are!

MARINETTE: Huh?

(As the group approaches, all of Marinette’s new friends block them.)

LUNA-TK: Back up! Back away!

@calxiyn (simultaneously): Get out of here!

ADRIEN: What?

@luminara713: Get back!

ADRIEN: What’s going on? Marinette! We’re here to apologize!

MARINETTE: You think I want to hear what you have to say?

(Marinette moves through her friends and approaches Adrien.)

ADRIEN: You need to know how scared and devastated we were when we knew you were gone. We spent the rest of the day looking for you.

MARINETTE: So? Just the fact that it took me running away for you to come to the realization that you mistreated me speaks volumes. How did any of you ever come to the conclusion that a girl who tells the most unbelievable stories that can be fact-checked by a simple internet search is so spectacular? How did, “Marinette, someone we know always puts other people’s needs before her own, is bullying a disabled girl because of pity jealousy, even though she insists that she’s okay with Kagami dating Adrien,” cross your minds at all? Tell me, Adrien.

MARINETTE (CONT’D, O.S.): Why did I have to tell you to vouch for me? I don’t blame Mr. Damocles for shutting you up!

MARINETTE (CONT’D): You looked like you were only doing it because I asked you to and not because you actually believed me! You all did nothing when I got expelled,…

MARINETTE (CONT’D, O.S.): …not even Alya’s “detective work” turned out useful,…

MARINETTE (CONT’D): …and Lila was the one to get me back in with another lie, and I’m just supposed to forgive you?!

ADRIEN: Marinette, please…

MARINETTE: No! You know, if I can’t ever get it through your heads that I want you to leave me alone, my new friends will make you understand! Let’s get these traitors!

(As Marinette and her new friends charge, Adrien and the others turn around and flee past several onlookers.)

MAN 1: This we’ve got to see!

MAN 2: This is gonna be good.

(The group turns onto the street as the typical harsh rain you’d expect to see in Florida starts to fall. Marinette and her new friends follow. Ahead, Adrien and his group frantically pant as they hustle ahead of their pursuers.)

(Looking back, Adrien finds fans coming from the streets they pass joining the chase. They run under the bridge connecting the Orange County Convention Center and the Hotel Convention Center.)

ADRIEN: Let’s go this way!

(They turn onto Hawaiian Ct and bump into Terence, who glowers down at them.)

WOMAN: This way! Get them!

(They change direction, toward the bushes behind Walgreens, which they hop over. Manon falls off of her mother’s shoulders, and Alix catches her and passes her back to Nadja.)

MANON: Thank you!

ALIX: Don’t mention it.

(Back on the street, the group hustles toward the overpass. Kagami’s foot slips on a sewer drain and she falls, clutching her ankle in pain.)

ADRIEN: Kagami!

KAGAMI: My ankle!

(Looking beyond her, Adrien sees their pursuers approaching fast.)

ADRIEN: Anansi, you carry Kagami!

NORA: Don’t need to tell me twice, Cellphone Boy!

(Nora runs back and carries Kagami on her back. Ahead, the group rounds the corner at the three-way intersection leading to Marriott’s Grande Vista. Their pursuers start to close in. The group races into the lobby, their hair and clothes sopping wet, and their equally wet shoes squeaking on the floor. They scramble inside the open elevator.)

TRAVEL GROUP: Get in, get in!…Go, go, go!…Hurry up, get in, come on!…They’re coming, let’s go!

ADRIEN: Come on, come on, come on, come on!

MYLÈNE: Get in! Get in!

(Their equally wet pursuers arrive. Adrien frantically presses the button to close the elevator.)

ADRIEN: Close, close, close, come on!

(The doors slide closed just before Marinette and her new friends can reach them.)

MARINETTE: Ah! Come on!

LUNA-TK: Darn! (SIGHS) Well, hey, hope you enjoyed the day with us before they showed up. See you tomorrow?

MARINETTE: Sure.

(Her new friends leave.)

LORI: They better not come near her again, or I will literally turn them into human pretzels.

(On the fourth floor, the group gets off the elevator.)

ALIX: I can’t believe this! We came all this way for nothing!

NATHANIEL: And Marinette has hardcore protectors now!

IVAN: Traitors! She called us traitors!

MYLÈNE: (SOBBING) How could she?

ADRIEN: This doesn’t make any sense.

ALYA: We’re so stupid! We should have seen this coming!

SABINE (O.S.): We really should have been keeping a more watchful eye!

CHLOÉ (O.S.): Yeah, and Lila deserves a pounding once we get back!

ADRIEN: Wait a minute, wait, hold on! Now is not the time to be hysterical!

NATHANIEL: Now is the perfect time to be hysterical!

ROSE: Should we be hysterical?

ALIX: No!

CHLOÉ: Yes!

ADRIEN: Maybe! But not right now! (SIGHS) Let’s call it a day now and figure it out in the morning.

(Later, the group lays asleep throughout the room. Plagg goes up to Adrien.)

PLAGG: (WHISPERING) You are concocting something right now, are you?

ADRIEN: No one concocts plans while they sleep, Plagg. Quiet before someone hears you.

(Fade to black.)

-They‘re just so good for each other. Luka is such a calming presence in Marinette‘s chaotic life and helps her relax when she feels anxious and unsure of herself, always willing to be there for her and offer a helping hand during tough times. Marinette has a deep appreciation not only for Luka‘s ability to play music but also hear heart songs, as if she understood immediately what he meant after listening to him play for the first time. They feed off each other‘s creative energy and are just generally so wholesome together. I could talk about them forever, they make me so happy!!

Luka Couffaine/Zoe Lee

-Listen, I know that Zoe is recognized as a lesbian Queen, but this lady is giving me bisexual Icon vibes, so I'm rolling with it. I honestly think that Luka and Zoe can bond over the heartbreak for Marinette, and how she chooses Adrien over them. Also, Zoe has grown so much and learned to state her ground in front of people (for example, Chole), which is a quality that Luka it’s in desperate need of learning too. She is kind, gentle, and ground-headed, but fun and I think that her personality would match well with our boy with a heart of gold. Sometimes they could be too similar in personality, but I honestly think that would work to their advantage!!!

The Aesthetics of Miraculous' Main Cast Pt. 2

Due to popular request, a second instalment based on the series' deuteragonists and tritagonists.

5. Tsurugi Kagami // Indie

Hear me out.

First of all, like with all aesthetics, there's no concrete definition for what constitutes as 'indie', although most people have a pretty definite idea of what shouldn't be. Indie is one of the widest aesthetics out there, bordering on multiple other sub-genres connected to a mish-mash of specific architectural, cultural, and musical styles.

But for Kagami, what I constitute as "indie" for her is simply a strong attraction to independence and individuality.

I don't think there's two better words to describe Kagami, out of all Miraculous characters, even the main deuteragonist cast, Kagami stands out because she has always been a girl who gets what she wants when she wants it, at times breaking the signature Miraculous limits of being reset back to default at the end of each episode. She remembered her disdain of Adrien, and although still cares deeply for him, never forgot the wound she obtained from him either.

Unlike all the other rich kids of Miraculous, Adrien, Chloé, Félix, and even Lila to a debatable degree, Kagami has always been far stricter and more formal in manner. This is does not, however, means that she is content to conform with her situation and blend into her mother's desires for her. No, Kagami has demonstrated capabilities to be far more rebellious than even our resident rogue superhero, surprising him at instances, and her adamant dedication to her drawing hobby, despite her mother's clear verbal disapproval, cements the strength of her indie personality. Moody independent loyalty, above all else.

We've never seen Kagami wear any other outfit apart from her fencing gear, kimono, and blazer-ed school uniform, and the audience certainly isn't aware of what her room or house looks like, but I imagine Kagami would be rather casual and grunge in sartorial terms. Preferring a good pair of comfortable, worn-in sneakers which are prime for running and other physical activities, rather than heeled shoes. Soft denim, fitted t-shirts, and relaxed bomber jackets with patterns of bright orange tigers and candy-red koi fish are also on the menu.

In terms of decorating her room – perhaps something like the image I provided above, granted with a lot more red and a couple prints of Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec's scattered around.

6. Luka Couffaine // Grunge

Grunge is defined by music. Having started off in the hard rock scene of Seattle, Washington, the popular grunge fashion sense – worn denim with holes at the knees, flannel, Converses, and oversized jackets – was once the uniform of preceding alternative rock bands to the likes of Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains, and 7 Year Bitch.

There's a general idea of hopelessness infested within grunge circles. Usually young teens with little faith in their futures or the adults/world around them, left to partake in aimless activities such as attempting to start off their band from their garage-offices, or smoking marijuana in the basement of their parents' house.

But a larger, more significant portion of grunge is about counterculture, rejecting the expensive and the mainstream, the manufactured and the perfected, for what is authentically human. In musical terms, this means hand-played instruments over recorded pieces and studio voices versus autotune.

I don't think there's a better way to describe Luka other than authentic. His grunge-style outfit and characteristic dyed hair aside, his rather angsty backstory as being the secret son of a rock icon, Luka is a genuine and honest person, who has seldom lied on screen (rather difficult to do when the series circles around hiding superhero identities from romantic interests), and never shied away from saying what would be tormenting and embarrassing to another person.

Congratulations to Luka for making the first, full love confession to his love interest in Season 3. It may have been blatantly disregarded since, but Luka did it, clear words right in Marinette's face, he did not conform to his peers' habits of sneaking around and attempting to find shortcuts.

7. Félix Fathom // Preppy

Since I've found out Félix is part-American, this aesthetic suits him far more.

There is an aspect to Félix that is Old Money, much like Adrien, semi-canon or not, apparently both boys have blue blood within them, as Emilie and Amélie are both alluded to being some form of English aristocracy. But what differentiates Preppy from Old Money, and indeed what separates Félix from Adrien, is sociability.

Félix does not suffer the serious curfews and heavily regimented household dynamic Adrien does, he's free to do what he wants, when he wants, and according to this show, that includes committing cross-country felonies with the aid of his loving mother.

Much like Old Money, Preppy is characterised by wealth, and a penchant for materialistic objects. Félix lives in a London penthouse, BTW, if anyone doubts his ability to showcase his upper-class background. Plus: his outfit. Apart from Kagami, and that appears to be a school uniform that she pairs off with sneakers, Félix shows up to nearly each scene he's in with a waist-coat, black tie, and dress shoes. Not even Papillon/Papillombre/Monarch can beat that level of suave.

What also defines Preppy, a rather negative aspect which shines it out from other luxury aesthetics, is that partakers in this particular kind of sub-culture are known for elitism, looking down on those who are financially not on their level, or destitute in etiquette.

From the moment he arrived on-screen, Félix had been plentiful with his disdain, letting it be very well know who he despises or think little of.

8. Zoé Lee // Art Hoe

Zoé wants to be an actress. You can't get more artistic than that, and considering family dynamics, having a career goal alone places Zoé as far from the Chloé alignment as possible.

Art Hoe is an aesthetic based around nature, a love for art, and (usually) women. While the specific art form in particular is usually paintings related to the pop-art, graphic, and modern and post-modern genre, there are plenty of indie and alternative films such as the works of Andy Warhol, David Lynch, and Wong Kar-wai's, surreal, dream-like pieces which fits into the spacey, high culture requirements.

Not to mention, Zoé's outfit. From her bright turquoise beanie to sunshine-yellow jeans. Zoé's dabbles between tough masculinity with her leather jacket and quirky femininity with her blocky flower shirt. Her shoes are perhaps the most vibrant aspect of her ensemble, with quite a sombre backstory – "Yeah, I've written every nice thing that anyone's ever said to me, to keep them with me all the time." "But there's only one message!" "I only had one friend." – speaking of both her colourful personal style, but subdued persona.

I can see Zoé wearing mom jeans and painted overalls, slugging Kånken backpacks over her shoulder and donning striped Van Gogh socks.

To cap-off her Art Hoe requirements, the aesthetic focuses heavily on DIY, which Zoé proves by painting her own daily shoes.

Something Bad is going (or Has) happened to Luka Couffaine

a theory!

Listen. Few love Luka Couffaine as much as I do. And there’s been a Good Deal of foreshadowing that something Bad is going to happen to him. Or, since we already have episodes 16 and 18, something already has. It begins in season four, and I think, most accurately, his downfall begins after Wishmaker.

My theory here is that something bad happens to him in season five, and I’m predicting it’s going down Episode 15, which is ‘Intuition’, named after Sass’s powers, iconically, the only miraculous he ever used (he should’ve gotten one in the kwami swap i will die on this hill, regardless of their reasoning). As of right now, all we have of this episode is the name and the rest is mere speculation. Could happen later, could happen not at all (doubtful), but this is what I’m predicting, and if I am wrong, well, I’ve been wrong before lol.

This ended up a Bit longer than I anticipated, with the pictures (there are pictures for evidence under the cut lol i’m not one to do a CHUNK of text) and ngl overwhelming number of ominous signs pointing towards him, so it’s under the cut. I do also acknowledge my biases- I think he’s a much more main character than the creators are allowing him to be. In my defense, I love him?

Now, when I say something bad, I’m preparing myself for them just killing him (they wouldn’t, right?) but it could be a vague injury or sending him away, just something that keeps him off my screen, which is, arguably as bad as death? The thing is, everything points to something ‘vague bad’, and from that I can’t predict more, so I’ll keep it vague.

Season 4, Episode 22- Ephemeral

Ephemeral is the First Time we get to see him after discovering their identities in Wishmaker (a moment I have written separate essays on before). As far as I interpret the episode, his initial plan is to tell Marinette he knows she’s Ladybug (eventually) and accepts he’s instead going to ‘know’ Chat Noir’s for everyone’s benefit.

I’ve written other posts on the Importance and Luka’s positioning in Ephemeral (and how the whole thing could’ve been solved with a simple conversation or. believe it or not. the Truth), so I’m not going to say much here, but the One point to be considered is:

It’s not safe for one person to know both Ladybug and Chat Noir’s identities.

Which is why she can’t know his, and he can’t know hers. And Luka finds himself knowing both. From this very moment I knew something bad was doomed to happen to my favorite blueberry. He got put in a bad situation after, honestly, a very bad season for him.

Season 5, Episode - Determination

This one is. A Reach but someone rb and tagged one of my posts so I cannot just move on from this. We know there’s a Viperion wax figure, we see it covered and also lined up to fight (BUT THEY DOn”T aCTUALLy FIGHT HIM), and he’s just straight up not included on the poster. Seeing the wax figure it’s clear that they Know of his existence, but he’s just...not there.

Some attempt at foreshadowing? I personally, do not know, but have been, without my consent, told it might be. (don’t write bible spoilers in the tags of my posts i read them okay???????) I am simply acknowledging this.

Season 5, Episode 12- Perfection

Luka has been in two (2) episodes so far in season five (LESS THAN WAYHEM MAY I ADD), and Perfection he’s bARELY there. (in his defense if I was in his exact situation, I would Also keep my distance), but he Is playing when Adrien’s singing, and they focus on him....at an interesting point.

(first. funny bc he was silencer lol) First for real. Lukanette fans are always allowed to mourn the ridiculously short dating time on my posts- the emphasis on him and Adrien using the melody talk that’s taken verbatim from Wishmaker is also another essay for another time.

Second, he knows. Which, in general, makes most of his appearances in the show post Wishmaker (only twice in season five so far) hilarious, but in this situation, why they chose to emphasize him on the heart beating line. The silence one I get, but why would they linger so long on such a line? Foreshadowing. that’s my answer. They’re going to kill him. /j

I could also point out how far apart he stands from everyone but I’m also aware his animation budget is like $5 and half a pbj so I’m not looking too much into that, but here:

Season 5, Episode 16- Protection

This episode is the first After when I think things are going to happen, immediately following Intuition, and Luka is...very oddly not there.

It’s clear they had Every Intention of Luka being there when they planned this date, even including him in the comic, but he was replaced by Nino at last minute (Luka and Nino are the same person truthers really got a +1 on that line lol), which is...a choice but more on that never.

Luka was obviously abruptly replaced, which continues to lend to the idea that something in the immediate past (previous episode- oh! That’s Intuition!) and based on the leaked ideas I’ve stumbled across for episode 14, I really don’t think he’s in that one.

What gets to me in this scene is that, yes, they’re uncomfortable (with every right to be), put on display by their friends, but they look at each other right when they say his name. Like they know something happened. This scene adds more fuel to my ‘vague bad’ idea than straight up killing him (they wouldn’t), where likely, Ladybug and Chat Noir know More as to what happened (as well as Juleka, but she has no reason nor desire to speak up regarding her brother).

Oh, he’s never gonna use the power of second chance again, that’s for certain, but I do have reason to believe it’s not because they don’t get the miraculouses back (haven’t read the bible spoilers on that I’m just assuming that’s how it all ends), it’s rather that he doesn’t get to use them.

Luka has a lot of potential built up as being so important to the plot, with the ideas of the four being foils to each other (Kagami is getting plenty of screentime for this (in a good way)), but because he knows. I can’t fathom when this is going to play out, or why they would make him know unless something important comes from it. Then again, between seasons they could’ve just changed their mind about his role in the show (*cough* the Couffaine’s always *cough*).

Then again, they also could have them find out each others identities before Luka gets/wants to tell them and then it’s just a waste but. I’ll write another essay on that if it happens.

I keep saying ‘I can’t believe they’re going to kill Luka Couffaine’ to prepare myself that something Very Terrible is going/has happened to him, but I honestly don’t believe that Fully. The people I have discussed this with have all, for the most part, agreed they’re likely going to send him away at least until the end of the season, and with this idea there’s so many different reasons they could use. Go on tour with Jagged? Sure. Let him learn more about being a luthier? I could see that. Study abroad? I’m still confused as to what type of school he actually goes to but why not. Something involving Monarch based on that last idea? God I hope not, but it’s a reason.
