Visité la expo Loving The Alien que sencuentra en La Casa Encendida -Madrid- fuí específicamente porque soy fan de la obra de Mari Katayama, a continuación te cuento sobre la obra de esta genial artista y sobre la expo.
Mari Katayama es una artista japonesa nacida en 1987 en Saitama. Su obra se caracteriza por ser delicada y oscura. Realiza todas las piezas a mano. Construye escenografías, obras bordadas, telas con foto transferencia, prótesis intervenidas y demás elementos. Ella toma su existencia como performance.
Su contacto con la fotografía fue simplemente para registrar sus piezas, al trabajar con otres fotografes comprendió la problemática de la autoría y como quería tener absoluto control sobre su producción decidió aprender fotografía.
Al integrar en su vida el lenguaje fotográfico la forma de representar estos objetos cambia, ahora es más consciente del uso de la luz para generar ambientes. Luces, sombras y misterios.
Además para la cámara unifica su trabajo en un todo coherente, donde el registro de sus piezas están unidos con el ambiente que ella crea mediante una escenografía y su presencia e interacción con este espacio y objetos.
Algunos trabajos suelen estar representados con una pequeña narrativa como en el primer tríptico que vemos en el video, donde ella es reemplazada por ese muñeco humanoide.
Suele encontrar mucha inspiración con la playa porque se identifica como cangrejo debido a la forma de su mano izquierda.

Mari Katayama fue presencialmente a la inauguración de la muestras -pero no pude ir 😢-, en realidad fue para su montaje, ya que como dije anteriormente la obra de Katayama no sólo es fotográfica o de creación de objetos sino que hace instalaciones también, entonces debía estar aquí para montar sus secciones en la expo.
La muestra hace una buena combinación entre los trabajos de Sandra Mujinga, Anne Duk Hee Jordan y Ovartaci. La salas se carcaterizan por una luz tenue y luces puntuales en cada obra, eso genera un ambiente íntimo, pacífico per a la vez un poco tenebroso, ya que podemos escuchar de la sala continua que contiene una video instalación de Anne Duk Hee Jordan. Con respecto a esta muestra seguido del trabajo de Katayama, que ya conocía de hacía tiempo, me impactó mucho el de Ovartaci de las cuales sus figuras en papel me parecieron súper magnéticas.

going through my old journals as part of therapy homework and i'm reading a section written in the emotional wreckage of a full-on breakdown when i get hit with this line:

#like you were on the ground biting the carpet and dry sobbing while you wrote that and still. good fucking point#not a shitpost#cptsd#and it's true. there's never a satisfying answer#the truth is i know why i wasn't loved#i analyzed my parent's traumas and abuse to death. i understand why i alienated and was alienated from my siblings#i know why my mom was too overwhelmed to be capable of nurturing#i know why my dad vanished into addiction and avoidance#the details of our cycles of trauma and cptsd and family history i have a phd in all of it#i understood perfectly. i spent years studying and now i knew the answer#and guess what? IT WAS NOT SATISFYING!!!#because they still didn't love me! and i still couldn't change that!#it was still a completely unsatisfying state of affairs!#so like. when the people who are supposed to love you...don't.#when the people who are supposed to take care of you...fail to#you can look for answers and reasons and explanations#but that's not actually going to FIX your situation.#and it's probably not within your ability TO fix the situation. (and definitely not your job)#because you don't need answers--you need a new situation#*inserts Just Walk Out. You Can Leave!!! This might be a hot take but can Mrs.Flood just be Mrs.Flood who knows what a TARDIS is cause she lived in London all her life, where alien shit is happening at least once a year and is always accompanied by the doctor and a strange police box.
Yk the doc aren’t as subtle as they think they are, word gets around as to what the box actually is.
