just finished rereading the first draft of my mountain wip that i wrote last year and hello???? it’s quite good??? like i had a banging time reading it, it’s such a fun romp with actually half decent plot and characters and pretty good pacing - lads i think i may have written a book here !!

#like ofc it needs editing and who knows if i'll get round to editing it #tbh i had so much fun reading the first draft it's actually semi-coherent and there's some solid character arcs and a plot that makes sense #but it's always been my for-fun project so i probably won't edit it #ESPECIALLY because right now i'm planning a real-world murder mystery-type thing with the same cast of characters #which i'm really excited for and i think is actually a more interesting use of the powers + characters + backstory #but yeah i just had a lovely time reading it. a story that i wrote. a BOOK #obvs it's a first draft but it's COHERENT #also 100k+ words because i get very excited about plot. whoops #but yeah i'm really proud of myself for writing it and i can't wait to get cracking on the grittier re-imagining that i'm planning now #also the thing i was most pleased about was actually the pacing haha. like each scene reads pretty well #it doesn't feel rushed #there's decent rising action and time for breathing room after big plot events #it doesn't feel over or under written #idk just...nice job me #lovely pacing #makes it read like an actual book #a very very amateur one but it's a first draft so that makes sense #but yeah...had a lovely time reading the novel i wrote...nice :)#now to reread morai!!

#The boy and the heron #how do you live #studio ghibli #ghibli #in all honesty that movie was legitimately so fantastic and im like changed as a person #Story wise as well! It hits really hard if you know a bit about miyazaki and his legacy. Its a very personal movie i think #And you can feel it in every aspect #The eng dub voice actors were really good as well and the animation was beautiful as always #Also really loved the tone!!! The story really relied a bit on the use of negative space in both sound and pacing and i enjoyed that alot #in conclusion go read a article about miyazaki and his son and then go watch the movie it’s probably going to be one of my favorites #image id in alt

I just noticed when Ozzie appears behind Fizz, the initial explosion shows his sigil for exactly ONE frame (replacing Mammon's sigil we've seen plastered throughout the episode). I just thought it was a neat little detail, Asmodeus essentially summoned himself in that moment.

i still can't believe there are folks who say "well GTN is annoying but you just have to get through it and then the other books aren't like that so you'll be fine."

personally i have been chasing the high of GTN ever since i first closed the book

#yes i love HTN but to me it was a slog! honestly pacing is not strong in any of these books #they're chock-full of reread value but unless you are looking deeper like that tbh not much happens plot-wise in each book #and HTN is the worst culprit because you get basically harrow just being miserable on the mithraeum for four acts #interspersed with chapters that are a different version of something you already read #the way i love each book is very different but GTN was FUN #you know??#i miss it #(i miss her. gideon my dumb baby come back to me)#the locked tomb #gideon the ninth #nonasbirthday

When Shakespeare describes the eventual end of human history as “the last SYLLABLE of recorded time” suggesting that the end of humanity will not be with a bang, a whimper, a gunshot, a sword, or even a breath, but with a syllable - a word….

And the fact that the line ends on the word “time”, which is one stressed syllable past its welcome in the iambic pentameter, suggesting that time itself continues long after human speech (iambic pentameter) has already ended AAAAAAHHHHHHH-

#poorly drawn mdzs #mdzs #lan xichen #jin guangyao #jiang cheng #wei wuxian #qin su #EDIT: Tumblr published an earlier draft with only half the notes I wrote so: late entry on my JGY thoughts.#Unlike the mystic powers of the stockmarket (what the OG meme is referring to) I think this situation calls for more active investigation.#qin su is such a deeply tragic character to me and I really wish we got a bit more from her.#Love everyone who sent me messages about her after the last time she appeared.#I think she needs a spin off of her being a transmigrator SO badly.#MDZS has so many interesting characters - but it sometimes fails to give them the proper room to really develop past a role in the plot.#That's just the consequence of writing a story like MDZS. Not every character in a book *needs* to have a rich inner life and backstory!#To do so would bog down the story and obliterate any notion of pacing. It's just not possible.#Jin Guangyao (nee Meng Yao) is unfortunately not free from this leeway rule. He is the culprit of this murder mystery plot #and thus NEEDS to encapsulate the themes of the book. And personally he's a 7 out of 10 at best on this front (in the AD).#MDZS is about rumours twisting reality and working towards truth. And about how people & situations are rarely ever black & white #JGY has his motivations. He's well written in regards to his actions making sense for his character.#What started as good traits (drive to succeed & improve his image) became twisted over time (do anything to maintain his image)#and it's a good parallel to WWX! He has the same arc (with different traits)! Bonus points for IGY in that regard.#but man....by the time we confront this guy for murder there's not a lot of grey morality. He's just...deep in the hole *he* dug.#There's a beautiful tragedy to it! More on JGY in later comics - this is getting pretty long already!

Generation Loss is a comedic tragedy in every sense of the word. Every character we see exemplifies this fact, but no one other than The Austin Show proves its truth.

We begin at the carousel. Austin, Gay, takes his turn by pleading for himself to live because he has a wife and children back home. The rest of the cast interrogates him about his “wife and kids,” clearly suspicious of his truthfulness without even knowing his dubbed “title.” Everyone in the room treats Austin like a joke.

In turn, so do we.

Next, we reach the closet and shortly after the failed drag show, Austin remarks, “Look, I uh… I didn’t expect to die here.” It’s a moment of pure honesty, whether we like it or not. It happens again when the Puzzler tries to party with them, and Austin has to angrily remind him that they are his captives and are actively trying to kill them.

Austin: “What are you doing? What are you doing? What are you doing? We're trying to get out of here. I have children and wives— wife. One wife! What is this some sort of game? I’ve been stuck in hear for hours it seems. We’re trying to get out. Why is nobody else freaking out? We’ve got C4 strapped to our neck…”

It isn’t until Ethan’s death, his blood pooling out from underneath the door, Austin screaming at the others, begging them to have a reaction, to care about their circumstances, to care about death, that we finally understand Austin’s role in Generation Loss.

After all, in every great comedy, someone always has to play the straight man.
