Sorry to bother - I've been searching your blog all afternoon (and enjoying QUITE a few rereads ☺️) and for the life of me I can't answer this. I could have sworn there was an Indruck companion to the Sternclay mermaid fic where Barclay and Indrid are royal princes and Stern and Duck are their respective bodyguards. Did I make this up or does this actually exist? 😂 If it does do you know where I can find it?
Hi there! That fill did not have an indruck counterpart.
But it does now.
Indrids design is based on a snowflaw moray, Duck's on a grouper.
Duck can’t help but feel this is a punishment.
Every mer of age in the kingdom of Sylvain must perform at least two years of military service. Duck, abhorring the idea of killing anyone, suggested that he perform more desk-based service while beginning his training in kelp forestry. He nearly succeeded, but word got around that he was gifted with uncanny strength and durability and so it was decided he was best suited to combat.
Duck refused that assignment, and when they threatened to jail him if he didn’t comply, he pointed out that it would be a waste of the very thing they thought he was good for. Eventually, they agreed to train him as a personal guard. He likes the job fine, even if following around duchesses and earls and wealthy tradesmen's children is often an exercise in boredom. He liked the ones where he was watching kids best; they got excited when he offered to build them sea plant boxes in their rooms or took them to watch the fish migrations in the spring.
He was removed from just such a position to take on this one, and he’s certain they made him do it because he revealed he was more than willing to take on four more years of service so that his sister, Jane, did not have to take on any and could go straight into her studies. No way in the wide ocean was he letting her life get derailed the way his was.
So here he sits, about to face the consequences of his being a pain in the ass: an assignment as the personal bodyguard to one of the two Princes of Sylvain. Princes with a reputation of running off or otherwise getting fired any guard sent their way.
Joe, his new co-worker, has what’s considered the easier of the two charges; Prince Barclay. Duck will be minding Prince Indrid, the court seer,  the training for which involved an extensive list of what the prince needed and what Duck was to do to make him happy and calm. As Duck swims down the corridor of orange and white coral, he wonders if the prince even cleans his own scales.
He enters the inner chamber with a special key. The room is all obsidian stones, shimmering black sand, and strange, red corals, though he does appreciate that the prince keeps sea blossoms in every shade of red growing on his walls. It almost makes up for the lack of windows.
At the center of the room is a carved, burnt driftwood chair, the prince sprawling on it lengthwise and drawing in an enchanted sketchbook. He’s so focused on his task that Duck’s startled when he acknowledges him.
“Hello, Duck. You are my new guard, correct?”
“Yes, your highness.”
“This is how this is going to go; you are going to follow all the rules laid out for you in that session they made you sit through this morning. I will loathe every minute of your presence. You will dislike me or, if you are more kindhearted, find me “offputting” but you will do as I say because I am the prince. In one to three months, give or take, you will either do something that gets you fired or I will arrange for you to break some minor rule so that you are relieved of the post you can no longer stand without getting thrown in jail for deserting your post.” His tone is detached, as if he means no harm by what he’s saying and is simply imparting information Duck needs.
“Is that somethin you see coming or are you just guessin’?”
“Does it matter?” Indrid still doesn’t look up, and so Duck swims closer.
“Howsabout this? I do my best to make sure you don’t get kidnapped or poisoned or anythin like that, and we try’n get along as best we can?”
Indrid’s fingers still, and he looks up at Duck. Red glasses obscure his eyes, but from here Duck can just see them widening a little behind the lenses. Still, the prince’s face remains implacable as he replies, “Very well.”
—----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Indrid can see the future, but for the life of him he cannot see Duck’s endgame.
Indrid and Barclay generally come by their personal guard one of two ways; an ambitious mer wants to curry favor with a prince, or a mer who truly believes in the importance of the royal family wants the chance to defend one of it’s most precious assets.
In the two weeks they’ve known each other, Duck appears to have no goal beyond keeping Indrid safe. When Indrid demands something of him, he thinks about it, dark hair rippling gently in the water, before acting. He will also only do things if Indrid says please, a habit he broke himself of long ago because all it seemed to do was leave his needs open for debate.
Duck will also just…talk with him. If they’re swimming along the halls or sitting in Indrid’s rooms, even when they’re in the royal procession where Indrid is waving to the kingdom from within his litter. Duck will point things out, or ask questions, and more than once Indrid has found himself laughing at some comment the guard makes about a minister.
It’s easier to be polite when he knows Duck sees him as more than just the adopted princeling with the scary powers and the red eyes or as a ticket to some form of status.
Right now, however, he has zero desire to listen to Duck–or anyone else–talk. He’s been in meetings all day, advising on urchin infestations to the North and the murmurs of conflict to the south, and he has had it up to here with questions no one wants the real answers to.
The servants arrive just as he’s trying to get into his private rooms, and in the process of getting through the door one of them overturns sea lemongrass soup onto his tail, stinging the places where he’s been worrying at it.
“OW! For goodness sake, watch what you’re doing. A royal servant should at least be able to tell where the damn door is! Or are you too busy gossiping like sea birds to remember to do your job?”
The alarmed mer shrinks away, “I am sorry your highness-”
“Yes yes everyone is always so very sorry but no one can bother to use their blasted brains-”
“Enough.” Duck floats to his right, arms crossed, “It ain’t more than a little accident.” He smiles at the servants, “thanks for bringin’ lunch.”
The others hurry away as Indrid slams the door and whirls to face his guard, “How dare you contradict me in front of them? Do you have any idea how difficult it is to get them to listen to me in the first place?”
“Nope, but right now I don’t care. Prince or not, you don’t get to fucking talk to folks that way. It ain’t decent. And it ain’t kingly either.”
“What does that matter? I’m not going to be king! Barclay is the heir because he’s their child; I’m just the seer they adopted so they could make sure I only ever worked for them! He’ll be king and I’ll advise him and the meetings will be just as miserable and fruitless as they were today, so pardon me if I do not feel too bad about snapping at someone!” He flicks his tail imperiously and swims past the shorter mer, intending to sit somewhere quiet until he no longer wants to rip any noise apart with his teeth.
“That still ain’t an excuse, y’know?” Duck’s voice is soft. Indrid begins bristling at the scolding tone, then realizes there is none.  The guard swims slowly towards him, eyes on his face, “I don’t know what those meetings are like, since they won’t let guards in. But I know what it’s like to be stressed as fuck and still not be able to get folks to listen to you. You still gotta be decent in those moments because bein’ upset at folks who ain’t done anythin wrong won’t fix things. And it’s a dick move.”
It would be easy to argue if he was ingratiating or reprimanding. In the face of gentleness, all Indrid can say is the truth.
“I know. I, I do not like doing that, not really, but I…I do not know what else to do. There are only so many things that get you listened to here. Or left alone.”
Duck rubs his chin, then says, “What if we made a way for you to decompress after those meetings? Seems to me that counts as lookin’ after you.”
Indrid blinks, certain the hope in his chest means he’s walking into a trap, “Do you truly mean that?”
“Yep. But that still won’t give you the go ahead to be rude to everyone when you’re stressed, okay?”
The firm edge to his drawl makes Indrid shudder to the tip of his tail. He nods and Duck smiles, swimming off to find something to generate a list of ideas; Indrid has more than a few guards where he’s enjoyed watching them go, but Duck is the first one where he can’t wait for him to come back.
Over the next few weeks, Duck helps Indrid stockpile soothing foods and his favorite blankts, the ones of woven seagrass enchanted to stay warm. Duck even finds a well loved, stuffed ray toy and fills it with sand so Indrid can rest it on his chest to help himself calm, and after difficult royal duties he will lay there, glow in the dark sea stars his only light, and Duck will simply let him.
Tonight is the first time he’s felt the urge to tug at the strands of their new arrangement. He asked for permission to swim up the estuaries for a day, drawing what he sees and enjoying the shallow, warm streams. Plus, Duck said the mangrove trees are spectacular and that he’d like to see them again. His request was denied on the basis of it not being worth the risk to a royal mer to go see some trees.
Very well, if he cannot go on a permitted excursion, he’ll go on a secret one. Just to prove he can, prove he’s not some silvery fish doomed to only ever swim as far as the hooks under his skin will allow him.
As he’s swimming for the door, Duck looks up from the model ship he’s building.
“Where we headed?”
“I am going to the Lionfish Den. You may come if you wish.”
“No can do; word’s been gettin around that your previous guards let you frequent there. We go, someone is liable to try and grab you.”
“That’s what you’re here for.”
“I ain’t inclined to get stabbed just because you’re in need of a little rebellion.”
“Fine. Then stay here.” He doesn’t care, maybe getting kidnapped would be a pleasant change of pace. Maybe it would be fun. Maybe someone would finally touch him, tie him up in a sea cave and let him be nothing more than a toy to ransom off.
Duck swims up and blocks the door, muscular arms crossed and expression teetering on annoyed.
“You cannot actually stop me. After all, no one is permitted to touch the royal seer.”
“I ain’t gonna. But if you want out this door, you’re gonna have to move me.” Duck casually rests his arms on each side of the doorframe. Indrid snorts, swims up, and pushes him. He barely wobbles. A firmer push just makes the guard chuckle.
“Extra strong, your highness.”
Indrid twines his tail around the green and grey splotches of Duck’s and pulls. After ten, unsuccessful seconds, Duck snaps his tail and frees himself with ease. Indrid is contemplating biting the end of it when the other mer says, “If you can look me in the eye and tell me no one will get hurt if we go tonight, we can sneak out.”
He rolls his eyes and searches the futures. As they unfurl, he finds an alarmingly high chance of violence, and zero chance of being carried off by a torn-finned mer for some aggressive fun.
His pride stings, and so he raises his chin as he says, “It seems you are right to be cautious. However, since you have denied me my entertainment for tonight, I order you to provide some in its place.”
Duck shrugs, “Okay. What do you got in mind?”
In most futures, Duck argued. And so, as is often the case with Duck, Indrid feels like he’s in an unfamiliar current and asks for what he actually wants.
“I, I demand you read to me. From that” he points to a collection of stories by deep-sea mers.
“Fine by me. Get comfy.” Duck retrieves the book and Indrid moves to his bedroom. It’s a bit dramatic, but he does enjoy the mammoth clam shell half that forms the frame of his bed. He can really nestle down into it.
Floats through the door, and before he can search for the chair Indrid points at the edge of the shell. The other mer settles in and begins reading, drawl steady and comforting, and without meaning to Indrid finds himself drifting, happily, into a dream of kelp forests and a little driftwood cabin within them.
—----------------------------------------------------------------
They’d been doing so well. Indrid seemed to genuinely like having him as a guard and the longer they’re together the more Indrid’s true personality and manners emerge. The prince reminds him of a mimic octopus that’s stayed disguised so long it’s almost forgotten how to take its true shape. Duck’s already lasted longer than the last three guards combined, and Indrid increasingly turns to him for advice about navigating court matters, in spite of the fact Joe or Barclay would be a better choice.
Whatever advice Duck gave him, it didn’t help today. The meeting this morning left both prince’s rattled, and Indrid is only growing more agitated as the day goes on. Duck doesn’t blame him; the prince spends his time getting ordered around like he’s an unfeeling crystal ball or babied to a point when it sets Duck’s teeth on edge. The longer he’s here, the more he understands that claims the princes are spoiled is like calling prison chains “exquisite silver bracelets.”
This doesn’t excuse the fact Indrid has been snapping at everyone who comes near him, including Barclay. Duck’s never seen the brothers fight before today, and when Barclay swims off he looks like he might cry.
Duck closes the chamber door and turns to where Indrid is pacing, tail propelling him back and forth across the room.
“What the fuck, your highness?”
Indrid whirls on him, “I suggest choosing your next words carefully.”
“That’s your fuckin brother, and I know for a fuckin fact he came in to try and comfort you over whatever shit happened today. Look, Jane and I don’t always get along, but I’d never fuckin talk to her that way.”
“Yes, well, you and your peasant sibling can handle things as you see fit. But I guarantee you that your pitiful little problems are nothing compared to what we are dealing with now.”
Duck flinches, just a little. He’s always been Jane’s protector, even when he was small.
Indrid grins, teeth sharp, “Do you know in most futures, she does not make it to the medical program? All the years of your life you’ll waste protecting me and it will come to nothing, because no one in this kingdom cares what some girl from the farmlands wants, and maybe the shouldn’t, maybe they’re right-”
Duck lunges forward, knocking them both off-balance so that the prince lands on the bed with Duck on top of him.
“Don’t you ever fuckin talk like that about her again. She’s got more goddamn worth than this whole fuckin palace, and I don’t care what your spoiled, self-important ass has to say I’ll make damn sure she sees the future she’s worked for.” He growls, gripping Indrid’s shoulders more firmly, “I thought you were finally learning how to treat people right, but maybe I was wrong.”
Indrid’s chest rises rapidly up and down, and after a moment his tail goes limp. His face can’t settle on an emotion, but all it takes is one flash of fear for Duck to propel himself off the bed as fast as his tail will take him.
“Fuck, I’m sorry prince, that was so fuckin outta line.”
Indrid curls his tail, hands covering the upper part of it “Nono, it was-”
“I shouldn’t have lost my temper like that. I, uh, I think I oughta go. I’ll be out there if you need, uh, protecting.”
He swims off, fully expecting to be fired before the day is through. But no termination comes, and when he tells Joe (about the argument, not the touching) the other mer replies, “It doesn’t surprise me; the prince likes you. He’s not going to get rid of you over one fight.”
Stranger still, for the next few days Indrid goes out of his way to not only apologize for his rudeness, but to ask Duck if there’s any way he can, “make amends for his misbehavior.” When Duck accepts the apology but says that no, all he wants is for Indrid to keep getting better with his manners, Indrid nods but looks disappointed.
Then he switches to being a pain in the ass; he doesn’t insult Duck or his family, and he doesn’t insult or snap at anyone else, but for the last three days he takes every chance to make Duck’s job harder in small ways. Duck will tell him to knock it off or try to work out what’s wrong, but after that Indrid will stop and return to normal until a new chance to be difficult presents itself.
They did at least have a nice dinner in his room tonight; Indrid has to mind his manners in court, and so the wiggles of his tail or flaps of his hands that indicate he’s excited or happy are reserved for the eyes of a trusted few. Including Duck.
Duck’s about to set the extra alarms and turn in for the night when sharp, muffled sounds come through the wood of Indrid’s bedroom door. There’s a buzz accompanying them, and Duck swims back to his own corner of the private chambers; it’s not the first time the muted sounds of the prince fucking himself have reached him, and it won’t be the last. He just wishes he could get the images of what he’d do if he slipped through those doors out of his head. Indrid’s speckled tail must be gorgeous when it writhes in pleasure, and he must make adorable sounds when bitten. Duck could cover his chest in hickeys and then tell everyone the prince is sick and can’t come out that day to give them time to heal.
He gets ready for bed and then swims up to the door for a final check. This time, the sound on the other side makes him instantly open the door.
In the dark bedroom not even the sea stars are glowing, and so he can barely make out the shape of Indrid huddled on the bed, shoulders shaking as little sobs bubble through the water.
“Your highness?”
A louder, shaking sob, but Indrid won’t turn around and is now trying to hide under his blanket.
“Prince?”
The blanket is almost over his head.
“Indrid?”
The prince turns his head and Duck gasps; his eyes are bright, glowing red, and as he tries to wipe them Duck remembers rubies in the sunken hull of  a ship.
“What’s wrong?”
“I…” Indrid looks helplessly up at him, “if I say it you will mock me.”
“You see that in the future? Or are you just guessin?”
Red gems go black for a moment, and then Indrid re-opens his eyes, “It seems it was a guess. I, ah, I was pleasuring myself but afterwards…afterwards I realized the thing I wanted most was to be held.”
“No shame in any of that.” Duck sits beside him, careful not to touch so much as a scale.
“There is more. I, I owe you yet another apology, Duck. I” his tail ripples, “I liked it when you pinned me. I did not like that you did so because I had been cruel. But I desperately wanted you to do it again. I thought tempting you might work, and when it didn’t I thought I might be able to earn discipline by being difficult. You are too sensible and kind to give into that either. And so I indulged in my fantasies tonight” he sniffles, “and afterwards I realized you, you will never want such things with me. I have been rude and I am offputting and you are in my service and I am nothing but a blemish on the life you wish for yourself. All, all I want is for you to hold me and even that will never come to pass.”
Duck wants to reach for him, tucks his hands under his tail instead, “I ain’t allowed, remember? Messes with your powers if you’re touched too much.”
The prince laughs bitterly, “I made that up. When I was younger everyone always wanted to kiss my hand or take my arm or clean my tail so they could sneak a scale from a prince and I hated it but no one, no one would listen to me. So I said it was damaging my powers and voila; no more touches for Indrid.”
Carefully, Duck opens his arms in invitation. Indrid hesitates and so he adds, “Only if youOOF”
The prince burrows against him, arms tucked so they’re pinned between their bodies. Duck embraces him, nearly laughs when Indrid asks, “Can I wrap my tail around yours?”
“Dunno, that’s a pretty explicit request.” He chuckles, toying with Indrid’s hair, “I’m teasin’. Go for it.”
A lithe tail coils around him, Indrid humming happily as he does it.
“Good as your dream was?”
“Better.” Indrid’s glowing eyes look up at him, “you may say no if you need but…may I kiss you?”
Duck runs his hands down to the top of Indrid’s tail, rubbing the tension beneath the scales, “You don’t gotta offer me that. You need affection, I can give that without you needing to give me anythin special in return.”
“And if I want to?”
Duck guides the prince's face up and kisses him once on the lips. It’s enough for the tail around his to tighten and cool fingers to trace up his face and cup his cheeks. Then Indrid’s mouth is on his once mouth, teeth nipping his lips as he wriggles closer.
“Something you want, darlin?”
“I want…I want to say thank you” Indrid kisses along his jaw, “thank you for seeing me. For thinking I could be more than I am.”
“Ain’t all that hard.”
Indrid bites his own lip, eyes taking on a bashful glow, “And do you like what you see?”
“Hell yeah.” Duck kisses his forehead, “guessin we don’t tell the ministers and such about you wanting to fuck your bodyguard.”
“Agreed. Although, I may insist that my guard be allowed to sleep in my room. After all, they’d hate to lose their seer.”
“Yep” Duck pulls the blankets over them as Indrid rests his head on his chest, “but I’d hate to lose my Indrid even more.”
Indrid trills softly, kissing his chest once before closing his eyes. Duck knows the future won’t be easy, that they’ll have to hide things and that Indrid will still need help navigating court and his own frustrations. As the prince falls asleep in his arms, he decides that’s a future worth guarding.

How about 6, 28, and 30 for the ao3 ask game?
AO3 wrapped ask game
6. Favorite title you used
Continuing the tradition of you always picking the most annoying question whenever I participate in an ask game, I don't really know. My absolute favorite titles I came up with this year were for a fic I haven't posted yet (it's first chapter has been a wip since early August) and for a fic I haven't even started yet (because it's based on an event not yet in the English version). So just looking at the fics I actually posted this year, I guess I'll just go through process of elimination to pick a fave.
First of all, fuck all the one word titles. Every single one of them was created on the spot because, I didn't come up with a name before it was time to post (the one exception being that unfinished fic). Next up, the sexual titles (aka NRC Masturbate Chef and Monster Fucking). Though I do love shitty puns, these have one major flaw. I die of embarrassment every time I have to say them out loud. I prefer fic titles where I can talk about them in public without anyone within earshot immediately realizing that when I say "creative writing", I mean porn.
Out of the remaining options, I guess I'd pick While Floyd Was Off at Camp? I don't have any reason for choosing beyond the fact that I like how it sounds when I say it out loud. (I don't hate the ones I eliminated, I just needed to narrow down the options somehow)
28. Favorite work you wrote this year?
This is another hard one, but for the opposite reason. For the first time like ever, I adore basically everything I've written this year. Even fics I felt meh about when intially posting, I've since reread and gone "Oh wait, this isn't bad at all, I'd just been staring at it too long."
So I suppose I'll go with Our Little Secret, because for something written in such a short time I'm awfully happy with how it turned out. But basically all of my Twisted Wonderland fics are my precious babies, and I could have just as easily picked any other one.
30. Biggest surprise while writing this year?
Just the fact that I've written (and posted) all these fics. If you told me back in January that I'd post 11 one shots in less than a year, all of them extremely self indulgently horny, I'd have laughed in your face.
Like, I had written some yugioh smut fics a couple years ago, but they were explicitly (lol) created with the intent of never posting them ever. NRC Masturbate Chef was supposed to be yet another of these forbidden fics, created for my enjoyment and no one else's. It was freeing, because at the time I fucking hated my writing, so not having to worry about what others might think meant I could just have fun with it.
But after finishing the fic (and starting on the next one, Sleeping Moray) I realized "Hey wait I'm actually proud of this, when did that happen?". I wanted to share my writing, but didn't want to post it on my ao3 account, as I wasn't visibly proship on main at the time (I'm still not, but now it's because I never post anything there and not out of any deliberate choice). So I created Twisted Thorn, with the intent of it being an alternate account for my "problematic" works.
Turns out I have a lot more fun writing incest smut then the stuff I used to write, so instead of being a side thing for hosting the occasional bit of porn and/or incest, Twisted Thorn became my main focus and I basically abandoned my previous wips in favor of solely writing Twisted Wonderland stuff.

For the fanfic questions! numbers 1, 4, 8, 9, 25, and 28!
fanfic end of the year asks | Accepting
1. favorite fic you wrote this year
Depends on the standards I use! I’m really proud of I Alone Will Carry On (Redwall, Grath Longfletch-centric). It’s emotional and intense and I loved writing it.
On the other hand, Memento Moray (Transformers Bayverse, Barricade-centric) is the best pun-centric thing I have EVER done in any context ever and I still reread it sometimes because I crack myself up.
4.total number of words you wrote this year
Well, combining unposted things, AO3 stats, and a handful of Tumblr/Dreamwidth drabbles, probably about...150,000? I don’t actually track my wordcount very closely.
8.shortest completed fic you wrote this year
Sacrifice (Bayverse, Prowl-centric), at 442 words, is the shortest thing I have on AO3 (AKA “done enough to archive forever”).
9. longest wip of the year
My longest posted WIP is If I Had A Heart (TFA, Blackarachnia/Glyph), which has 25,100 words according to AO3.
For not-posted things, Shatterpoint is currently sitting at 43,037 words and will probably top out at 80,000 or thereabouts.
25.a fic you read this year you would recommend everyone read
101 Ways to ACTUALLY Die While Working on Your PhD by MlleMusketeer, which is ABSOLUTELY the funniest Bayverse self-insert fic I’ve ever read (and probably the funniest thing I’ve read in any fandom ever). Great characters, lines that still make me laugh just thinking about them, and every now and then some serious emotions sneak in the back and punch you in the feels. It’s a good read.
28.longest fic you read this year
The Allspark Changed My Life by Rowena_Bensel (Bayverse rewrite w/original female character), which clocks in at around 144,000 words currently. It’s tropey fun and exactly the kind of thing I like in my Bayverse rewrites. I’m probably about due for a reread because I’m starting to forget things that happened in earlier chapters, so it might also be the longest fic I read next year.

I was tagged by the wonderful @woollenpharaohs to list my 10 favorite ships. I still can't belive people actually know I exist on this site. Seriously. Thanks so much for tagging me!
Now this is gonna be quite hard because I just have way too many ships to function, but I'm gonna try anyway. The order won't actually mean anything really since I'm the kind of person to jump from ship to ship.
(this is actually my second try doing this since my computer crashed in the middle of doing this. Thanks a bunch computer)
1.Dean Winchester/Castiel-Supernatural
Tumblr media
Do you wanna have your heart broken and ripped to shreds? Then buckle up because I have the right ship for you!
These two have ruined me. Just like the show this ship is of great emotional value to me and I love it dearly. At this point the show is basically the most painful slow burn fic in the disguise of a TV show and I honestly can't complain. Each hug is fuel for my soul and gets me through another day.
2. Hannibal Lecter/Will Graham-Hannibal
Tumblr media
Tbh this ship actually shares the first place with Destiel because I discovered them both at the same time where I didn't feel great at all and they both helped me through really tough times.
When it comes to Hannigram I'll always remember that one post that said that Hannibal lives in his own wonderland amongst pigs, who'll never be able to understand him and his wonderland, until he stumbles upon Will who sees and understands.
And in the end we are all just searching for someone who understands us, aren't we?
Beautifully dark relationship that tugs on your heartstrings more than it should.
3. Alana Bloom/Margot Verger-Hannibal
Tumblr media
What would the murder husbands be without their counterpart murder wives?
Two beautiful women that kill their abuser via drowning and leave him to be eaten by his giant pet moray eel. Who then get married and have a beautiful son together. Bryan Fuller I truly thank you for this gift, for those beautiful ladies brighten my shadowy days.
4. Sam Winchester/Eileen Leahy-Supernatural
Tumblr media
Even though I've always been a huge sucker for Sam/Gabriel, these two took me over by storm. They've had such great chemistry and I instantly fell in love with the idea of them being together since she's been first introduced. Such a shame the writers don't like their own characters to have an ounce of happiness. Hello denial thanks for showing me all those fix it fics.
5.Trevor Philips/Michael De Santa-GTA V
Tumblr media
(not really a lot of gifs to use for that one)
Oh boy... Complete dumpster fire of a ship and guilty pleasure. I've actually shipshamed myself so long for this. But after playing the game multiple times, you just can't help but realize, that this ship sails itself.
Sometimes I wonder how I went from shipping girly anime looking guys to ship whatever these men are.
But this ship has some real emotional baggage and when you look behind the kinda disgusting surface, you see a relationship more flawed and real than most fanfiction offers. And oh man has this ship some really great fics!
6.Geralt of Rivia/Emiel Regis Rohellec Terzieff-Godefroy- The Witcher 3
Tumblr media
I present to you: my current obsession
Even though my only knowledge of their relationship comes from the Blood and Wine DLC (because I've bought the books just now so I haven't read them) I still fell hard for this. Very hard.
A higher vampire killing his own blood brother, a bond much stronger than a human could ever imagine, to save his dudebro and thus becoming hated and hunted amongst his own kind for all eternity. This ship might be the definition of : there is no hetero explanation for this. You can't fool me CD Projekt Red. These two were clearly in love.
7. Mac/Dennis-iasip
Tumblr media
What do I love more.
The meme that evolved from this scene or the ship?
Another one of those rough gems and my former obsession . With people so deeply flawed that it's more realistic than the most stuff you see on television these days. There is something about their dynamic that is so interesting to witness. Another one of those ships with some seriously great fanfics just like the one from the lovely person that tagged me.
8.Joseph Oda/Sebastian Castellanos-The Evil Within
Tumblr media
Just by looking at this one can imagine that this is anything but a happy ship. Just take all the angst you can imagine and put it in a ship. There we go. Now you've got Joseb.
Another one of those games where you can't help but notice the chemistry and ask yourself if there was something more. I always revisit this one when I feel the urge to get some angst into my system.
9.Johnny Rayflo/Charles J. Chrishunds-Vassalord
Tumblr media
My whole life was dedicated to this manga during my teenage years. Just looking at this gif still makes my heart swell in my chest. It's propably the reason why I have such a soft spot for vampires and I still have a special place for these two in my heart. Looks like I've got to reread this soon.
10. Erik Lehnsherr/Charles Xavier-X-Men
Tumblr media
I think we all have a special love for that one ship that introduced us to shipping and just fandoms in general. This one is mine.
I still have folders of crappy fanart of them, when I first tried drawing. And one of my first fics was also dedicated to them. I don't know if they either destroyed me or showed me the way into my safe space. And even if my obsession has slowly faded, I still consider this one of my most favorite ships.
That was a ride. My god
Even though I have a lot more I think I'm quite satisfied with how this turned out.
Like always I'm gonna tag (and bother) two of my favorite ladies @kira-hayashi and @natari-55

Sunday reading recap (22-Mar-2020)
still watching a lot more stuff than in the before times as well...
Tumblr media
excited that a new part to a fav series came out this week. reread the first three parts to prep!
A Collar For His Brat #1-3: Crash; Overrride; Reboot (Santa Rita Doms story) (RJ Moray) - I love Ewan and Nate so much! I also love that this gives us another view of Jack & Channon too.
“It was like sharing space with a half wild animal, barely domesticated and people-shy. Ewan McKinney did a good impersonation of something tame and safe, but he wasn’t. He was feral and willing to bite.”
A Collar For His Brat #4: Debug  (Santa Rita Doms story) (RJ Moray) - fantastic entry in a fantastic series, love these characters so much. I was so sad when it ended because I just want more, NOW.
Whose Body? (Dorothy L Sayers) - listening to the BBC radio presentation version of this, from the ‘70s, with Ian Carmichael as Lord Peter. Love checking out audiobooks from the library!
Things Floating Like the First Hundred Flakes of Snow (BeaArthurPendragon) - 51K, canon-divergent AU: "In the summer of 1968, the Winter Soldier manages to break free of his HYDRA programming enough to get a message to SHIELD Deputy Director Peggy Carter that Captain America is still alive." - really enjoyed this, great read on all the characters and I liked that it was told from multiple POVs.
in this story, you have claws (voxofthevoid) - 62K series, canon-divergent AU: "Steve was turned into a werewolf before Erskine ever met him, Peggy Carter became Captain America, and Bucky Barnes comes in from the cold because of a significantly more furry version of his best friend." No A/B/O, just a LOT of really excellent & filthy werewolf fucking
plus 235K in shorter fic
shorter fic shout out
Going Once, Going Twice, Sold… (Brenda) - 39K series, shrunkyclunks, it all starts with a bachelor auction…
Save a Horse, Ride a Captain - 2K, shrunkyclunks -  drunken dares & piggy back rides - the group chats are HILARIOUS
Pre-Existing Condition - 13K, Die Hard 4 - this showed up on the @serpentcast Patreon rec email, which for this month was 'Marriage of Convenience', a trope I love. I know what you are thinking because it's the same thing I was thinking & here's what Macey (who recced it) had to say:
Okay okay so I hear what you might be saying. “Macey. That fandom. The fuck?” to which I simply say: shhh. Shhhhh. It’s perfect."
And you know what? She was absolutely correct. I'm almost angry at how good this was. Can’t believe I read a Die Hard fic.

Sunday reading recap (21-Jul-2019)
shout out to past me for being smart enough to plan a 4-day weekend. excellent job. I’ve been reading and I re-watched The Losers.
Go, Petunias!
Tumblr media
(There was a kink short fiction giveaway a week or so ago, and while I was picking up the RJ Moray novella I also got these 3 others that looked interesting. The RJ Moray and the Carly Marie were my favs.)
Pretty Boy (Misha Horne) - novella
Cuffed (Andi James & Lila Wilde) - short story
Skin Deep (Carly Marie) - novella
Million Dollar Daddy (A Santa Rita Doms novella) - RJ Moray
Kneading You (C.S. Poe) novella, one of the “Lancaster, New Hampshire” stories - loved this cute story about the town handyman & the librarian saving the town’s library. Also, putting marshmallow vodka into hot chocolate is a frickin’ GENIUS idea and it made me make some adult hot chocolate. But I had dark rum in mine.
Fly Me to the Moon: Volume One (Fly Me To the Moon #1-3, Emma Barry & Genevieve Turner) - I read another of this series, set during the [fictionalized] US space race, several months ago and liked it well enough that when this collection went on sale I scooped it up. I quite enjoyed the it although the final novella had the ‘hero knows she’s the one for him & won’t take no for an answer’ trope which I don’t love but it didn’t sink the overall enjoyment of the other stories.
Star Dust - divorced (scandalous!) single mom moves next door to handsome single astronaut.
Earth Bound - the engineer in charge of everything & the brilliant computer programmer - both devoted to their work + the mission, also can’t steer clear of one another
A Midnight Clear - a sorta prequel story to a supporting character couple we meet in the 1st book - ultimately it did OK but like I said, not fond of the trope.
turn back into stars (crinklefries) - 56K, Stucky, ice skating AU - rivals-to-partners/fake-boyfriends-to-friends-to-lovers - fuffy, the right kind of cheesy, delightful
Three-Man Advantage (Tripping #2, Ariel Bishop) - EXCITINGLY I won a giveaway this author was running and had to pick a player shirsey and so I had to reread this to decide which player I wanted. (It was Sasha). This is my fav entry although I love the entire series.
Holding (Tripping #3, Ariel Bishop) - yep, I’m doing a series reread. I love this bff/roomates-to-lovers because it uses the ‘you broke your wrist & can’t jack off, want me to help with that?’ trope 😍😍😍
Plus I read over 194K in shorter fanfic! (I love that now I can easily track EVERY SINGLE THING I read on AO3, oh my god, my data nerd heart is so full of joy!) The two I want to shout out are
Come On-A My House (odetteandodile) - which is an entry in a lovely shrunkyclunks series - in this one, Bucky & Steve move in together. Bonus points for the title referencing such a great song.
My Boyfriend Calls Me Daddy, Too (cydonic) - a hot, sexy coda to a great fic where houseflipper Bucky falls in love with single-dad-next-door Steve

Sunday reading recap (23-Aug-20)
great week for new releases! that was about all it was a good week for!
Tumblr media
👂 The Black Mountain (Nero Wolfe #24) (Rex Stout)
💜 Sugar Baby Love (roe87) - 117K, shrunkyclunks, a/b/o, kidfic - if that’s your jam, you know it; it’s definitely mine (well, i don’t always love the kidfic but this one was tolerable and the other elements made up for what i didn’t love unreservedly)
Better Than People (Roan Parrish) - "grouchy children's book illustrator with a broken leg & a pack of adorable rescue dogs & cats, super anxious animal lover, cozy cabincore AF”
💜 The Sugared Game (Will Darling Adventures #2) (KJ Charles) - jesus fuck, this series just keeps getting better & better. I cannot WAIT for the final book in this trilogy. Kim’s practice of being a squirrelly af bin fox brings his life crashing about his ears - so far, he’s still got Will & Will’s Emotional Support Knife in his corner but what now? But I love knowing & trusting that this will end with a HEA (however that looks for them). [As usual, the easter eggs to other books are screamworthy.] Some absolute fave quotes/moments:
They didn’t belong together— Will was a plain man with a knack for violence, while Kim was a twisty upper-class bundle of nerves— but they’d fit.
“No, you look,” Maisie said, sounding extremely Welsh.
“When people are obliged to keep an eye out for threats, their eyes tend to be sharp. That’s what women’s intuition means, if you ask me: being unconsciously alert for dangerous men.”
Phoebe, clad in a frothy dressing-gown, was running down the stairs. [REDACTED] cursed and started up towards her; Phoebe swung onto the banister, slid down it in a flurry of sea-green material and bare calves, and leapt lightly off the end, as if she’d done it a hundred times. {THIS IS MY FAVE ACTION MOMENT IN THE ENTIRE BOOK TBH}
Trouble & Strife (Chances Limited #2) (Lara Kinsey)
Guide To Troubled Birds (Matt Adrian)
💜 A Collar For His Brat series -  I love this series - Ewan's so prickly, like a porcupine & Nate just wants to be his supportive, affectionate, sadistic sugar daddy and wrap him up, while being *very* careful not to break any of Ewan's thorns. I love how this series takes its time to develop their relationship and their getting to know each other and how they fit together, but each ‘episode’ gives the reader a couple of good scenes. (Her other series does that too, but with a couple with a very different dynamic, equally good) [#1-4 were rereads in prep for the release of #5]
Override: A Collar For His Brat #1 (RJ Moray)
Crash: A Collar For His Brat #2 (RJ Moray)
Reboot : A Collar For His Brat #3 (RJ Moray)
Debug: A Collar For His Brat #4 (RJ Moray)
Interrupt (A Collar for His Brat #5) (RJ Moray)
Brute Force (A Collar for His Brat #5.5) (RJ Moray)
A Sub For Christmas (A Santa Rita Doms story) (RJ Moray) - because I didn’t want to completely leave the Santa Rita Doms universe so I started on the short standalones!
plus 124K of shorter fic - shorter fic shout out to
Sergeant Barnes and Colonel Rogers: Lessons in Lust, Longing and Inappropriate Erections. (darter_blue) - 31K, shrunkyclunks D/s AU - really liked the set up that this is one of the multiverses and due to wibbly wobbly timey wimey stuff visitors from the canonverse are popping up. totally satisfactory as a standalone stucky d/s story but am definitely looking forward to more in this universe
