The Mario movie thing is so funny to me. Here, look at this:

Sonic movies (1, 2, & w/ 3 on the way) come out, does INCREDIBLE in box office, decimates Marvel films, who previously had a stranglehold

Nintendo sees this, wants a piece of that pie, buckles down to make a Mario movie Incorrect order of events, as pointed out here! Mario movie announced before the public knew about Sonic movie.

(Potentially because the previous Mario movie was so out there, did poorly, & was disliked by fans & then promptly forgotten,) they pair with Illumination, a studio that is largely known for making very sterile films

Btw, is it just me that finds it weird that there is no mention from Nintendo or online of the previous movie, in all this? Maybe I'm the only one who remembers this film idk

They announce casting. Everyone immediately boos because they cast Chris Pratt as Mario.

Immediate outrage, as Charles Martinet, the voice of Mario for DECADES, was not cast in his claim to fame roll

There is a (unsourced) rumor that a test screening for the film was met with disappointment, making Nintendo unhappy

Slightly corroborating this, Nintendo buys Dynamo Pictures, to make Nintendo Pictures, with the intent to make future movies in-house

Anticipation for the movie likens it to other sterile animated movies of the last 10 years, like the Minions movies

People continue to boo Chris Pratt, a bad cast for a beloved character who is putting 0 effort into his voice, in comparison to all other VAs putting in 110%

Chris Pratt goes to bed "depressed," at seeing the response I was incorrect, that is an older article, about when he was thanking his wife for providing a healthy child, to which people drew immediate parallels to his ex-wife's son, who has many health complications & needed many surgeries.

But with your help, we can make him being depressed after media backlash reality!

Of course they hadn’t been kissing! What a strange question. Though to be fair, their faces had been close and it probably could’ve looked like they were kissing from the distance that Jamie had seen them.

One of my favourite moments from Of the Northmost Winds and Skies by @jjackfrost aka how I cried for a Hijack fanfiction in 2022.

I honestly just want to say thank you to the author for bringing us such a wonderful story. I loved how in character everyone was, the slow burn was SO GOOD and the plot was a lot of fun to read! Also I'm still emotionally recovering from the last chapters and I'm blaming you because now I won't be able to watch RotG the same way.

listening to ppl react to brokeback mountain is such a great way to identify who is good at paying attention to subtext and who is not lol

so many podcasters have cited the scene where theyre on their last campring trip together and jack tells ennis he has a girl hes been seeing on the side as proof of jack's bisexuality or whatever and like. look. you can argue whatever sexuality you want for him, but if ur gonna do that, CITE A DIFFERENT SCENE!

the whole reason the scene w david harbour and anna farris was written into the script at all was so that later in the story, when jack's dad tells ennis that he had another guy who was going to come up there and live w him on his parent's ranch, we realize that the "rancher's wife" jack said he'd been sneaking around with back in texas was actually the same ranch neighbor jack's dad was talking about, meaning jack was lying to ennis

and thats also why ennis kind of freezes for a beat when jack's dad says that, bc he's making the same connections the audience already did. or at least was supposed to lol

read camp dama.scus. enjoyed some stuff, really wish i didn't have the experience so often reading a book that's Good and Progressive and about Queer Affirmation etc of feeling like i'm side-eying the author like 'and you know that delineating the people that oppose you as pure evil that therefore deserves torture or death or being eliminated from society entirely is bad, right? you know that, right??'

#it's kind of funny bc the main character is a jack chick tract atheist in a way bc #she rejects her religion (REALLY quickly and easily lol) and immediately starts... conceiving of HERSELF as a prophet/god #as in. starts making up 'bible' verses that are about Her and how awesome she is #and how she's going to bring down her enemies with the righteous flaming sword of vengeance and wrath and truth etc #which i would love as a character Thing if the narrative didn't just treat this as 'super metal' with absolutely no further examination #(seriously she casually drops that she's been making up bible-style verses abt herself and her ideas #in convo with her Token Good Christian friend. by CITING ONE OF THEM #LIKE IT'S A BIBLE VERSE. and then going 'o yeah i've been making those up'#and her friend's reaction is just 'haha that's sick' and moving on)#listen i'm all for god complexes and edgy bullshit but the presentation along w the general #descriptions of the Enemy as 'cartoonishly pure evil' and implicit 'haha nice!' around the idea of THEM getting tortured forever #just leaves me ://///#i might be oversensitive to this after stuff like Sorrowland and Pet but.... just. ech. i wish i didn't have to play the game of #'do you think torture is ok if it's someone you don't like?' and 'do you consider people who do bad things as human?' in the first place #also it was just a HUGELY underwritten book lol it'd make a decent movie but viewed as a book it gets funnier the longer i think about it #was marketed as conversion camp horror. 0 conversion camp content bc IT ALREADY HAPPENED #0 relationship development bc the two people the MC connects with she ALREADY HAD RELATIONSHIPS WITH. The Dean loves kids is such a THING lol, i mean its so cute how he was with kids, its so adorbs but i don't mind how he is with Jack at all when it comes to his characterisation, not even from a 'it makes sense given the setting' thing, hmm like a lot of actual Dean stans seem to be fine with it because they like Dean's individuality more than wanting to like him, if that makes sense, and his parentification is part of it, obvs Dean mistreated Jack severely and that's beyond him having to or being told to parent but like Dean says he doesn't want to mother and that's fine.
