No emoji on here but sewing needle for the p4s?
🪡 - What activities do they do while being regressed? Are any of them not ‘typical’ for regressors?
Yuu - nothing specifically really !!! He just goes along with whatever his friends want to do with him !! He’s not very energetic though so if his big siblings want to play games with lots of rules to remember or something else better suited for slightly bigger kids they give him a colouring book for parallel playing or let him sit on someone’s [Yosuke’s. Almost always Yosuke’s] lap to “help” his big sibling do whatever they are doing [when it is a sitting down game like cards or even fighting video games] and whenever Yuu is “helping”, the siblings without the baby usually let the sibling with the baby win the game !!! Unfortunately since usually Yosuke has the baby he brags sooooo much about how good he is at games.
Yosuke - hmmmm he !! Likes video games and perhaps sometimes they are kind of big kid video games !!!! Not Inappropriate ones because he likes when his little siblings watch him but. More complicated ones! Even if he is not very good at them oops! One time he googled how to impress little kids and it shaped Everything about him [silly]
Chie - she likes playing outside the most !! She loves to do games like tag and hide and seek !! And also go to fun places like playgrounds or the pool !!! She also likes watching movies and playing fighting video games though and she is Actually very good at them even if Yosuke has won more times [Only because of Yuu]
Kanji - he doesn’t do sewing while he is regressed but ONLY because one time he tried but he pricked his finger on the needle and cried about it. He would LOVE to though so instead he does paper crafts !!!! He makes cute little cards and paper dolls and Naoto has a HUGE collection of these because usually Kanji gives them to him 🥺 he also likes playing with dolls and stuffed animals ๑❛ᴗ❛๑ they are his friends !! When he is big he makes fancy clothes for them to wear !! As well as clothes for his friends’ stuffed toys!!
Naoto - he LOVES puzzles of all kinds. Jigsaw puzzles and paper mazes and word searches and scavenger hunts… wah… if he is feeling fuzzier and it as harder to think through puzzles on his own he likes to watch kids’ detective shows or read stories !! It is like he is helping figure out the mysteries but if he misses something that is okay the characters in the show or book will figure it out!
Teddie - he likes playing outside like Chie except a MILLION times more eventually she will tire herself out but Teddie WON’T. EVER. He is ALWAYS running and jumping around… especially if someone lets him have [too much] sugar… eek! Also he is soso clingy all the time he is begging people to play with him or give him piggy back rides Especially Yosuke his big brother even when they are big ๑>ᴗ❛๑
Ayane - she is pretty similar to Yuu in that she doesn’t do much on her own !! She is kind of a bath time and nap time girlie with snack time if she remembers but when she is with Yuu snack time is a MUST they take turns making bunny apples to share 🤍 and then they do colouring or watch baby shows depending on how active they are feeling before falling asleep snuggling

i'm thinking about yosuke again and it makes me so annoyed because of how hard atlus dropped the ball with him. it's very obvious that they made his character arc with the intention of him being a closeted high schooler in the year 2011 that struggles with internalized homophobia who learns to finally accept himself, but then randomly decided to cut out the payoff to all of the setup so it just makes him extremely homophobic. the whole game is about accepting the part of yourself that you hate, and yosuke coming to terms with his bisexuality throughout the course of the story fits into that theme perfectly.
it's small stuff like this and so many other moments that make much more sense with the context of him originally being planned on having a romance route. he projects his idea of "manliness" and what's "right" onto both others and himself to make up for the social stigma placed onto him by society; he's trying to convince himself that he's "normal" so he can fit in. him feeling ostracized because he's the manager of junes' son is a blatant parallel to this, and the two of them could've easily been intertwined.
"i like you" in japanese is "ore, omae ga suki da" 《俺、 お前 が 好き だ》 -> known as the most common form of a love confession in japan and is almost always used romantically, especially given the context
this is an obviously repressed queer kid who has been struggling to grasp his sexuality and growing feelings for yu; there is so much subtext throughout the game that has all culminated to this moment—or at least, should've culminated to this moment. but it didn't.
funnily enough, i don't think it was atlus projecting their bigotry onto him at first until p4g, but making a genuine attempt at a good character arc that, much like the rest of persona 4, misses the mark in the worst way possible despite being so close to saying something meaningful (cough kanji and naoto). it's like they chickened out at the last second, but "forgot" to take out the parts that just make him a homophobic asshole with the context removed—and then even doubled down on it in p4g lmao. the thing i'm confused about is that hoshino (the former director of the persona series who is extremely disgusting and bigoted) was... already in the company when the lines were recorded??? so i'm baffled as to why they were allowed to come up with it in the first place before deciding against it.
this could've been really great and realistic representation that could've helped other queer people who were going through the same thing yosuke was—especially in the year 2008—and i'm super disappointed that they decided to cut it. persona 4 is about confronting the problematic elements about yourself, and i cannot think of a greater example of this than yosuke and his internalized homophobia.
(bonus: the closet is made out of glass)

This is kinda related to my last Yosuke post but i 99% believe the root of his problems comes from self-esteem issues, yes, he was bored of inaba bc of nothing to do and being badly treated AND his crush was death, but i believe this was mostly an step for his shadow to manifest after everything, and even so, his shadow wasn't that related about Konishi herself
You act happy and carefree to hide the fact that you are afraid of being alone
That's the thing, he believes people may see him the way he sees himself, that's what he's ashamed of, he believes he's not likeable and that acting like the usual happy clown will help to improve his likeableness. He has no one to show how he really is, bc he's afraid people may leave him
There's also his childish desire of wanting to be a hero, that i do believe, it's related to him wanting people around him to be happy and not bothered by his existence.
Something i realized too, is how the other shadows's talk in a way that is more "me, me, me"
Meanwhile Yosuke's shadow is different
"you, you, you" his shadow constanly talks about "he" not "himself", maybe i am being a nitckiper, but i do believe the thing of his shadow is that kinda represents how he's very self-aware of himself to the point of mocking himself for the smallest things, constanly show by his self-hatred humour or his pov thoughts in arena (even tho i am not the biggest fan of that game but let's not get into that)
And let's not count how he always avoid talking about his own shadow and only opens up about it to Yu, like if he felt, like Yu is the only person that would never abandon him no matter what
He even is unable to stand up on his own in his social link when he's badly treated by some girls that only talks to him when he wants something from him in the job. Until you don't stand up, he doesn't stands up neither
Soooo, in conclusion:
Abandonement issues? Self-esteem issues
Attached to some girl that didn't even liked him? Self-esteem issues
Unable to open up to his own friends? Self-esteem issues
Believes he's a pain in the ass? Self-esteem issues
Probably projecting onto kanji? Self-esteem issues
Unable to say something to girls that were treating him badly in his social link until you stand up and didn't even feel good afterwards? Self-esteem issues
His character is about self-esteem issues damnit
