really normal discussion/translation notes for the hitoiki song tls ive been working on. just needed a spot to dump them

plus-minus-kakeru-waru

×÷繰り返して心丈夫になる (kakeru waru kurikaeshite kokorojoubu ni naru) is a really, really cute pun. the verb used for multiplication in mathematics is 掛ける– it has several meanings, one of which meaning "to secure" (i.e. locking a padlock, etc). That part combined with 心丈夫 (referring to emotional security or reassurance) can give off the vibe of "securing one's emotional security". this one makes me smile a lot :)

not sure exactly what this line is supposed to mean (what were they cooking?), but the galapagos speed dramatic part of the chorus did lead me to an interesting fact while i was trying to crack it! there's a phrase called the galapagos syndrome, which is a term in the business sector that was coined in japan– one of the early uses of this term is to refer to tech with highly specific features, which was unsuccessful outside of japan. more about that here, it's very interesting and def links back to yusei's role as the akiba rep.

＋−の天秤に人生のスパイスを (purasu mainasu no tenbin ni jinsei no supaisu wo). translated as "the positive-negative balance is what spices up our lives". two things here: jinsei is the typical reading of the unit name hitoiki (which, funnily enough, derives the kanji from the names of its two members!), and spice is a nod to the fact the two of them go out to eat curry. i'm not sure if it's mentioned what their preferred spice level(s) are though.

bungaku complex

月が綺麗ですねってこぼしたそれは (tsuki ga kirei desu ne tte koboshita sore wa). this line contains a literary history reference. natsume soseki (author of texts such as botchan/wagahai wa neko de aru) coined the phrase "tsuki ga kirei desu ne" as an indirect translation of "i love you", and it is still commonly used as a method of confession for characters in anime/manga.

電気街 (denki-gai) literally: "electric town". Often tacked onto the end of akiba as a nickname given the prevalence of tech stores in the area. kinda self explanatory.

過去と未来を通りゃんせっせと (kako to mirai wo tooryanse sse to)– tooryanse is the name of a nursery rhyme from the edo period. the melody from this rhyme is often used in crossing signals in japan, with the rhyme itself essentially being about a family trying to celebrate shichi-go-san (rite of passage ceremony for young kids, more detail here).

冥土の土産はメイドが見上げた (meido no miyage wa meido ga miage ta). this one is difficult as hell to translate in a way that conveys the genius wordplay in it, and that very much gives me a migraine because it's so good. 冥土の土産 is an expression which refers to something which the speaker feels can make them pass away in peace– 冥土 in particular referring to hades and his domain in greek mythology. メイドが見上げ literally just refers to looking up at a maid (as the line is sung by yusei, this tracks given akiba's abundance of maid cafes). unironically peak

ほらもう一丁 (hora mou icchou). icchou can refer to a serving of food in a restaurant, which means it's probably a reference to how yusei and rihito are lunch bros who go out to eat together on a frequent basis. icchou, when given the -me suffix, can refer to a city block. this is probably unrelated, but it may even be a subtle nod to the close proximity of kanda and akiba stations– being located less than 10 minutes away from each other in nichome kajicho and icchome sotokanda respectively.

PART ONE

pairings: charles leclerc x fem!reader

request: hii! i loved your one shot "meeting of families" and as much as it is a one shot it would be interesting to have a part 2 with charles asking her out, him being totally a gentleman and their first kiss 🥺

authors note: prob can have errors cause I didn't review, I got a major headache anyways hope u like it!

After the dinner with Y/N's family, Charles realized that he needed to see her again. It had dawned on him that he hadn't even gotten her phone number.

So, like any reasonable person would do, he decided to track down Arthur.

"I need her number," he stated.

"Why?" Arthur asked, teasing his brother as usual.

"I want to ask her out," Charles admitted.

"Just promise not to mess things up, okay? I don't want things to get awkward between me and Carla."

Before Arthur could give him Y/N's number, their conversation was interrupted by the sound of the doorbell. To their surprise, it was Carla and none other than Y/N herself.

"We came to bring Charles his shirt that Y/N accidentally stained with wine," Carla said, her smile widening as she noticed the exchanged glances between her sister and Charles.

Carla's playful comment sent a slight blush to Y/N's cheeks. She rolled her eyes but couldn't hide the small smile that tugged at her lips.

Arthur chuckled, clearly enjoying the moment. "Well, perfect timing. Charles was just asking for your number, Y/N."

Y/N's gaze flickered to Charles, surprise dancing in her eyes. "My number?"

Charles nodded, trying to sound casual despite the nervous excitement bubbling within him. "Yeah, I thought maybe we could go out sometime."

Y/N's smile grew, and she exchanged a quick look with her sister before turning her attention back to Charles. "I'd like that," she replied, her voice soft and genuine.

"Great!" Charles exclaimed, feeling a surge of happiness at Y/N's positive response. He couldn't help but grin, his nervousness dissipating with her warm smile.

Arthur winked playfully. "Well, since that's sorted, how about you two head out on your date right now?"

Y/N laughed, and Charles glanced at her with a hopeful look. "What do you say, Y/N? Are you up for a spontaneous adventure?"

Her eyes sparkled with amusement, and she nodded, her voice playful. "Sure, why not? Let's do it."

Charles's heart raced at her enthusiasm. "Awesome. Let's go then."

With a casual goodbye to Arthur and Carla, Charles and Y/N headed out into the night. He led her towards his car, and as they drove through the streets of Monaco, he couldn't help but feel a mix of excitement and anticipation. The city was alive with lights, and the cool breeze tousled their hair.

They drove through the enchanting streets of Monaco, the soft glow of streetlights casting a romantic ambiance over the city. The cool breeze tousled their hair as Charles navigated the winding roads, his fingers tapping lightly on the steering wheel.

Y/N leaned back in her seat, a contented smile playing on her lips. "Monaco is really something else at night, huh?"

Charles stole a glance at her, his heart warming at the sight of her enjoying the view. "Yeah, it's magical. But you make it even more special."

Her cheeks flushed with a blush, and she playfully rolled her eyes. "Smooth talker, aren't you?"

He grinned, his eyes twinkling mischievously. "Hey, I'm just stating the truth."

They continued to chat and laugh as they cruised through the city, Charles occasionally stealing glances at Y/N when he thought she wasn't looking. He marveled at how easy it was to be around her, how their conversation flowed effortlessly, as if they had known each other for much longer than they actually had.

Eventually, they arrived at the quaint restaurant Charles had chosen for their date. The dimly lit interior created an intimate atmosphere, and Y/N's eyes lit up in appreciation.

"This place is lovely," she remarked as they were escorted to their table.

Charles grinned, holding out her chair for her. "I'm glad you like it. I thought we could use some privacy."

Y/N winked playfully. "Privacy, huh? Is that your way of saying you're tired of people recognizing you everywhere?"

He chuckled as he took his seat across from her. "Maybe just a little."

As evening wrapped up, their laughter and conversation flowed seamlessly, painting the canvas of a perfect night. The restaurant's soft lighting danced in Y/N's eyes, making them sparkle even more. Charles found himself captivated by every expression that flitted across her face.

As the night drew to a close, Charles paid the bill, and they both stood up from the table. The air was filled with a mixture of excitement and a hint of reluctance as they realized their time together was coming to an end.

Outside, the city lights still illuminated the streets, casting a romantic glow over the surroundings. Charles took a step closer to Y/N, his heart beating a little faster. He wanted to kiss her, but he also didn't want to rush things. Yet, he couldn't ignore the magnetic pull between them any longer.

"You know," Y/N began with a playful glint in her eyes, "I've heard that goodnight kisses are a must after a date like this."

Charles couldn't help but chuckle, feeling a pleasant warmth spreading through him. "Is that so?"

She nodded, her smile infectious. "Mhmm. It's like a rule or something."

With a mixture of boldness and a hint of nervousness, he took a step closer, their bodies almost brushing against each other. "Well, who am I to break the rules?"

His words were barely a whisper as he leaned in, his lips brushing against hers in the softest of touches. It was a gentle, tentative kiss that held a promise of more to come. Y/N's lips were soft and warm, and he felt a surge of electricity course through him.

When they finally pulled back, the air was charged with a new energy. Y/N's cheeks were flushed, her eyes locked onto his. Charles couldn't help but smile, his heart racing with a mix of excitement and contentment.

"That," Y/N murmured, her voice slightly breathless, "was definitely worth the wait."

Charles grinned, his fingers gently brushing a strand of hair behind her ear. "I couldn't agree more."

The city around them seemed to fade away as they stood there, wrapped in the moment they had created together. And as they shared one more lingering look, it was clear that this was just the beginning of a beautiful journey they were embarking on together.

Major Spoilers MWIII (1/5)

Thoughts on Ghostsoap interactions in mwiii. With pictures for extra spice. BEWARE SPOILERS ⚠️⚠️⚠️ PART 1

ON THE IMPORTANCE OF NAMES

So apparently, the Kill or Capture mission wasn't the first time Soap or Ghost have met before.

There's a flashback mission in mwiii set 4 years prior to mwiii. In it, they go through makarov's previous capture in verdansk.

This is set before the events of mwii 22 but most likely after the events of mw 19. If I remember correctly, the verdansk missions were set after mw19 and had the first references to modern soap and ghost.

Shepherd was still considered a good guy in this and he's working with Ghost on overwatch. Soap and Price rush to stop Makarov's terrorist plot and capture him alive. It culminates in Soap and Ghost interacting on coms and in the helicopter with makarov.

I find this all very interesting, cause that must mean they worked together at least 4 years prior to 2022 mwii events. (Though prob even earlier considering that there was no introduction, by shepherd or Price. Just a simple "Ghost will cover you on heli".)

And Ghost's interactions with Soap with comparisons across 4 years ago, mwii and mwiii is so telling in how impactful the Alone mission was for their relationship.

The makarov mission flashback showed how cold Ghost was to Soap. Along with the classic 09 mask, he didn't even register Soap at all aside from calling out kill shots and bluntly informing Soap of enemies. Didn't mention his name, his rank, anything at all. Soap is just another faceless soldier to him for all he cares.

Which makes mwiii more juicy cause Ghost in mwiii pretty much only uses Johnny when referring to Soap. It's a total tonal shift. In mwii he used it sparingly and then in mwiii, it's Johnny this, or Johnny that. Been a long watch of the current playthrough but I could only remember him saying Soap and sergeant very sparingly in comparison.

It also speaks of how much the writers wanted it contrasted when the flashback verdansk mission is set right before the first SoapAndGhost mission. You get to compare and contrast Ghost's warmth from his coldness. Ghost cares. It's obvious in how his jokes ring, his snark and the nickname for Soap. It's so different from old ghost with the 09 get up.

All three of these moments is Ghost and Soap communicating and checking on each other. The game writers knew what they were doing here damn it.

And after the flashback mission where Ghost and Soap are riled (heh) up over the makarov mission 4 years ago, GHOST ASKS SOAP IF HES WITH HIM (to go on a risky mission with no backup) AND SOAPS JUST LIKE YOU DONT EVEN NEED TO ASK.

Lit don't forget that no one outside of Ghost ever refers to Soap as Johnny. Even Price, whose name is John also (and is referred to it by Laswell) uses John when he's speaking to Soap personally.↓

The only one to use Johnny and is allowed to use it is Ghost. 🥹😭😭😭

After applying to Tommy’s LOH a few weeks prior and hearing nearly nothing back from Austin or Tommy, your hopes had been diminished significantly for any chances of getting to know the internet sensation that is TommyInnit. And although you hadn’t been chosen by Austin to attend the show, your discord was chosen to accompany Tommy on a ‘Discord Date’.

Not that you complained though, Tommy had specifically chosen you to go on a date while the LOH contestants had to compete for one. A win-win situation, to say the least. And after you’d went on your phenomenal date with Tommy, the flirty, humor filled interactions hadn’t halted with him in the slightest. He was in your discord DMs all day long, inviting you along on his many adventures. Although your lack of living in Brighton had made going along with him difficult he still put in maximal effort to make your relationship bloom.

As well as pestering you on Twitter.

Your friendship had quickly turned more into playful flirting, which of course coaxed him into developing a major crush on you.

Of course, you were more than obliged. Even if he’s kept you up till 6 am the night prior making you watch him play Stardew Valley, his company was one of your favorites. So, you eagerly made your way to your computer with a blanket wrapped around your body and sat down in your chair to accept his discord call. The little ‘ba-dunk’ noise echoed in your headphones when you joined, as well as Tommy’s charming voice. “Y/nnn helllooo my little pog champ!”

You cringed playfully at his nickname for you, replying with; “Tommy, you’re sweet but I hate that name more than anything in the entire world.” His screen was shared, displaying the ‘Stray’ home screen across your monitor. He giggled, sending butterflies fluttering through your belly. “Well, what else do you want me to call you? Darling? Makes me wanna puke just saying that.”

Your face lit up, even if the pet name was sarcastic. “Ha! C'mon now, anything’s better than calling me your little pog champ.” You turned on your camera and showed the fit you’d worm, as well as the blanket that shielded your head and torso. Tommy’s mouse hovered over the start game button before he stated. “You look quite adorable.”

The game continued and your banter subsided for a while. Tommy knew that you were already tired, so he stuck to laying low and letting the chill vibes mellow out. With the occasional comment from you, as well as Tommy comparing your cuteness to the array of different four-legged felines, you found it difficult to keep your eyes open for more than a few seconds.

Now and then he’d regain your consciousness by uttering things like. “HOLY SHIT IS THAT A LION?” (It was not, but how else would he get your attention?) or “Y/n our cat child is missing your presence. I will not be a single dad again!” The last silly statement made you perk up.

“Again?” You could hear the devilish smile through his dialogue. “Gotcha! Now look we gotta-“ You cut him off with a yawn.

He sighed, accepting your sleepy defeat. Even if he could’ve continued playing the game on his own, he didn’t want you to miss any cute moments shared between the two of you. “Alright alright, you wuss. I give in. Go back to sleep.” So, with a final good night from the two of you, you crawled back into bed for a nap. And Tommy was sure to leave something sweet for when you returned.

How might one get into "reading for a living" because that's a dream job

it is not a dream job, its called publishing and i make less than 40k a year LOL.

to be less arch, im an editor, and i work in editorial which is the 'flashy' department (lmao), but it's a pretty stressful job. obviously it's one i enjoy because no one would stay in the industry unless they got some reward for it. but still. i say 'reading books' is my job but thats probably only like 40% of it. a lot of my day to day work involves nagging people for deadlines, having meetings abt whether XYZ feature will cost extra, researching marketing trends, etc. YMMV if you work as a book designer or some other dept, i know they have different rules. this isnt to bitch but i think publishing has REALLY good PR among english majors and these are things i wish someone had told me before i sunk money into a publishing degree. BTW: dont get a publishing degree. experience > MA in publishing

so like, i cant in good conscience recommend the industry -- its sort of like going to grad school except with worse pay (the phd candidate gets a stipend; the unpaid intern does not.) but if you already have prion disease and you want to go into publishing, heres what i got

publishing advice below:

first things first, you need book experience. you can get this through the obvious ways (working on ur college lit mag, unpaid internships, copyediting freelance work) but i feel like that prob goes without saying. so what ill say is: if none of those options work, you could always work at a bookstore. lots of the editors i work with actually got their start by saying in the interview, "i worked at barnes and noble and noticed that [category] sells well. i love noticing which books resonate with people" or what have you

i will say that i work in nonfiction publishing, which has some differences from like, editing queer YA fiction. one of those jobs is more competitive than the other. and the industry standards are pretty toxic (if your author misses his deadline and sends the manuscript at 6pm, tough shit, you have to work late to make sure the book doesn't miss its pub date. if you're not thinking about all your books constantly, you must not really care. etc.)

that said one of the best things i can recommend is looking into publishing jobs in different departments. most people are competing for editorial department jobs (things like acquiring and signing books, and being the main point of contact for an author.) but if your passion mostly lies in editing or making things pristine, managing editorial departments often hire production editors who still read through all the books, but their day to day work is more like proofreading, checking barcodes, and other printing related tasks.

theres also finance. finance publishing jobs are never anyones first choice, but on the plus side, you wont have to tell the author why his advance is late. thats the acquiring editor's job. and also lots of people pivot to editorial after they have some years doing finance, design, production, etc.

i will say there are way more remote publishing jobs now than ever. theyre all super competitive but you should apply anyway. if youre entry level, look for "editorial assistant" type roles. some of these actually pay really well: to give an example, harvard hires copyeditors and editorial assistants at a rate which is more than my yearly salary. i mean, its harvard. you gotta look around. but there are more options besides the big 5 publishers. academic publishing is its own field! work at your favorite journal/database! work at JSTOR or wiley!

i dont think theres anything else i would add, other than just random shit talking abt industry standards and quirks of the industry. i dont want to sound whiny because i realize im lucky to be working in my field -- but, i think people oversell publishing as one of "the only career options for english majors."

to be totally honest, most people could make double or triple my salary from being a project manager or corporate editor. so if you enjoy reading and editing, there are better options to you than trade publishing. if you enjoy the act of connecting with authors and making their vision a reality, you might enjoy publishing. or you might not. idk!

No, I don't think so! I think my parents just went through the list of baby names for girls and settled on Joanna lol.

2. When was the last time you cried?

Uhh... I teared up watching one of the episodes of Blue Eye Samurai a couple days ago but the last time I Cried was on my flight back to Boston last Friday rewatching episode three of The Last of Us lmaoo. (I was like SURELY I won't cry on my nth rewatch... #rip to me)

3. Do you have kids?

4. What sports do you play/have you played?

Swimming and soccer growing up. I did ballet for like a year or two also when I was like 5. Since graduating college I haven't really done any sports, just working out at the gym pre-pandemic and then at home since the pandemic, although one of my friends is trying to start a pickup soccer group which I'll probs join if it takes off. Do want to get back into swimming again also. That's on my 2024 todo list. I've tried running as a hobby enough times to know that I suck at it and that I hate it lmao.

6. What is the first thing you notice about people?

Hmm, probably their outfit; I enjoy seeing people's different styles!

Ugh, no?? I can't think of anything lol. Being a procrastinator and the ultimate lazy bum (only half joking). idk man, I used to be proud of my writing and amv skills but I haven't seriously tried to write anything in probably a decade and I don't think I'm ever getting back into making amvs lol. Letting things go/being resilient maybe? I'm at the point in my life where everything is just 'it is what it is', but I think I've always been good at moving on from things tbh. Life's too short to dwell.

11. What are your hobbies?

Nothing creative anymore, that's for sure (#rip). Uh, I love going out and doing things. I'm the furthest thing from a homebody so being trapped at home during the pandemic drove me nuts. Things I do on the regular include visiting independent bookstores, art museums, and seeing shows. I try to travel/see someplace new on the regular, whether that's going out of state/country or walking through a new neighborhood in the Boston area. I love eating, definitely a foodie. I read a lot (more fanfic than actual lit these days whoops) and watch a lot of tv. I also enjoy just walking around and people watching (will frequently walk around the neighborhood/city without any real purpose in mind as I go crazy if I'm cooped up in my apt for too long). I also love sending snail mail and exchange postcards monthly with a friend in London, and send holiday cards/postcards to family/friends when I travel. I guess documenting my interests on Tumblr can also be considered a hobby considering how much time I spend on here lmao.

12. Do you have any pets?

No, but I plan to adopt a cat when I (hopefully) get my own place!

13. How tall are you?

5'4" :')

14. Favorite subject in school?

Growing up, probably math. I was good at it, and I loved how logical it was. I also really enjoyed chem, probably because it was the most math adjacent science (hilariously though, I hated physics). In college obviously computer science, my major. Though I've always loved my literature classes also.

15. Dream job?

Man I'd love to open and own an independent bookstore/cafe. Dream job for real.

honestly this is a great statement about who stray kids is and how far they’ve come. now hear me out.

they kind of show a little bit of everything that makes up their genre so to speak. noise music, hard bass, charming little quirky parts, not even mentioning the fun choreo and footwork that they’re known for.

it showed that they’re here and that they aren’t changing their brand any time soon.

honestly i’m not always for big flashy mvs but i know that’s kind the era of kpop mvs rn but skz never really bothers me with their mvs even if there’s a lot going on LOL (like the soldiers, the octo monster, the horse, the fire, just for examples) oh and i won with all the chris shots LOL anyways

i really like the choreo it’s really playful and like they said it’s like a “playful annoying” HAHA it really comes off as these annoying kids having fun without a care. my favorite part of the choreo is the hook and the start of verse 2 i love the switch up so much it’s not even funny.

also the part where minho and chris get to be center with the footwork that’s such a nice moment!

i loved all the scenes on the boat fr fr that’s so cool! i also loved the camera work yet again their mvs always have such nice camerawork and editing <3333333 i love how they yet again did everything that tends to “bother” people. adding a lot of things to their videos and making them wild just like making their music noisy HAHA

Second of all—lmfao I was wondering when I’d get this ask or comment 😭😭😭😭😭 I just knew there’d be some poor phd student or some professor reading this fic who’d be like “hang on… what’s that?” and the answer I’ve got for you is let’s have a healthy dose of suspension of complete disbelief because it was the only way I could make this work 🤓

I wanted it to be an age gap because I wanted to write an age gap but I didn’t want there to be too horrible of a power imbalance that would definitely come with it being a student/professor relationship. That was just too far for me to personally go, even though with the ages I have them at, it would be the most realistic thing. Idk making them student/professor made me feel icky. I suppose I could’ve made her work some admin job within the university but I really liked the idea of them both teaching, and I originally planned on having him sort of rediscover his own love of teaching thanks to her enthusiasm. For some background (this didn’t make it into the fic, but I did hint at it); Anthony specializes in teaching a lot of western lit canon/comp lit things and Kates specializes in post-colonial lit/Asian American lit, and I liked the idea of her challenging his perspectives and changing up some of the ways he approaches his work and the things he assigns, and that all helping him rediscover his love of teaching as well. There’s a repeated theme in this oneshot of rebirth; how love can find us at unexpected times and make the world feel brand new again. I kinda heavy-handedly drove the theme home when he says I love you and I write that it washes over Kate like rainwater in spring—a sort of nod to baptism/rebirth imagery, a nod to rain being necessary for renewal even though she’s afraid of storms but the storm scene is a huge turning point for them, and rain and springtime and rebirth etc lol. ANYWAYS—all this to say, I really do try and make things as realistic as possible, because that matters to me and I like world building and tbh I do get paranoid that someone might read my fic and go “oh well that’s wrong, a mechanic would never say that” or something lol, but it is fanfiction land and I do have to make some concessions to make the story work in the way I want it to work, and I sort of ended up here lol! Trust me, though, I totally hear you; I was an English major myself (if you couldn’t tell) with a concentration in post-colonial lit and a minor in poli-sci and for a while I thought I’d get my masters or a PhD in the humanities and then teach, before a professor discouraged me from it bc ya know this is the US and that usually means a lot of debt and no teaching positions lol. But all that to say—I totally hear you! It’s not realistic and it’s icky if you work/study in it and know exactly what the dark and ugly side of academia looks like! But most folks probably didn’t catch that bc no one really knows what it’s like until you’re in it tbh. I tried to sort of make it work by having her have these two masters degrees (again, insane) and be some sort of wunderkind and exciting new voice in the post-colonial lit field that Agatha just had to bring on lmao. Basically it’s not perfect and it doesn’t totally work irl, but it’s not too big of a plot point besides getting them in the same place, and it’s not a huge focus, just in the background as they’re grading things or walking around campus, and I hope it doesn’t totally impede your ability to read it, but I totally understand if it does 😭

I audiobook'd Agatha Christie's Murder on the Orient Express and while I prob wouldn't recommend it to anyone unless they were truly interested in murder mysteries bc it was a little dry and slow to me in the middle, the ending was wildddd. In my opinion, the ending was worth the dryness. A well-crafted story, truly.

While some of the effect may be lost, I think listening to audiobooks of classic literature is a major hack and well worth anything that might be missed when not read in the traditional fashion. As much as I enjoy traditional reading, I'm super pro-audiobook (and actually get a little peeved when people say it's a lesser form of reading). A good voice can add so much meaning and theatrics and color and texture to the words in a way that I sometimes can't in my own head. I've found this especially useful for drier, meandering classic lit that's well-recognized to be excellent. I think Tolkein's Lord of the Rings has to be something I read via audio sometime this coming year.

I've been binging Scholastic Babe's PhD vlogs at Brown and Providence, RI seems so lovely. Her vlogs are just so comforting ahhhh. They're not particularly useful for me, I guess, since she's in the humanities, but I feel like she's just genuine and relatable.

Lastly, I went into Old Navy several weeks ago for practically no reason at all, and I discovered this beautifully soft cardigan which cost way more than I wanted to spend on a sweater, so I didn't get it. I have experienced an entire saga over this sweater which I do not care to recount (because it is ridiculous tbh). I will say that I was quite literally planning to buy it outright at full price a few days ago, but they didn't have the color I wanted in store, so I was even going to suck it up and have it shipped. Then, in a final moment of near defeat, I go online to find to my surprise that everything is 40% off. Including the sweater which has literally been excluded from every sale for the past several weeks (trust me, I know, because I checked nearly every day like an obsessed psycho). Patience truly is a virtue.

Today I am thankful that my officemate is really cool and nice :D I was curious about some aspects of what it was like to move up there and we had a conversation over Zoom and I'm glad that we're getting along so early.

meeee mmmh ive applied to 10 schools/majors because that's the most we can do here and i mainly applied for LEA which is like applicated languages w/ english & a 2nd language and i chose Korean. so 4 schools for that major (5 if u count the school that offers a double major LEA korean + management 🤕) & then also a few schools for info communication & a few others for science of languages + media communications so BASICALLY ! something centered about languages but mainly english + korean ..

they are all over the country though so i hope i get accepted near where i live but i don't have much faith because the school near (LEA english korean one) had an admission rate of 2-8% 😹 BUT ITS OK that's how uni works alala

moodboard for when you spent all semester looking forward to one class a week bc of a girl who by some stroke of fate was designated as your silly little right hand man for your first ever in person class and laughed at every stupid thing you said and offered to be your muse and teased u for not knowing what a level was and introduced herself to you to which you replied ‘yeah i know your name’ and she nervously parted but then continued to choose to sit next to you and talk to you until she didn’t bc someone pointed out you were ‘the two that sit together’ all the time but she still responded and was all smiley and dopey and cute whenever you talked and always kept up with your stories and shit but then didn’t answer one message so u thought she hated u and u went back and forth on this a million times bc she has rlly pretty eyes and can look super intimidating and sometimes sat away from u but she’s so so sweet any time u talk she lights up and opens up and literally stares at you one class to the point that you’re like ‘uh hey what’s up’ and she just looks away and then during your last class u can see her gazing at u and laughing at everything you say and engaging more in conversation and wishing she was able to hang out with ‘the crew’ more and also opening up and saying stupid shit and then u all go out for ice cream and she jokingly shows u around campus for her lame major and tells u more abt it and u guys talk the whole night like it’s a first date and then end the night and she reasons that you guys missed out on what the whole class was talking abt bc you guys were ‘having our own little moment’ but this is the same night you find out she has a bf and then you see her the next day and she chooses to sit with you instead of meeting her mutual friends and tells you exactly where she’s living ‘in case you ever want to stop by or whatever’ and then u see her the following day too and meet bf except he’s sleeping at first so you go up to her after she looks back at u like three times bc well it’s the end of semester and all dignity is gone and you guys have a surprisingly flirty conversation about chalk and those weird ‘S’s kids love to draw and she steps in between u and bf to show you a bruised knuckle and gets remarkably excited that you guys have another class together and u get invited to third wheel and luckily have enough self respect to avoid that but then you don’t get to talk to her again for the whole semester other than for a class once bc you had to approach her and bf on a little date and he glared daggers at u the whole time but u were just like existing and then u never ever got to see her again bc he made her bail on the group hang out you were hosting and then u stupidly messaged her to go to this student film thing and then said ‘acc dw abt it’ and she ofc never responded and then they saw u the last day of the semester and lit stared at u prob bc you were slaying that day but u walked away once they stopped looking and now u don’t know where u stand so u don’t talk but several ppl have asked if you’ve known each other for a long time and you talk to her best friend sometimes on instagram so she must not hate u but you’re just like 🧍‍♀️

modern au where sokka and zuko meet bc they're both on the premed track and share a lot of the same classes - except they're really just classmates who can at most tell you where the other sits, their name, and.....that's about it

so when sokka gradually stops showing up to their labs, zuko notices but doesn't think much of it other than a fleeting thought that he must have changed his lab days. and when zuko doesn't show up for one of their finals, sokka just assumes he got accommodations to take it elsewhere

but then they don't see each other for another two semesters, when they end up in the same late-night pottery class (sokka signed up for fun, and zuko did bc ty lee made him). turns out, they both dropped premed that same semester, which......actually, is a great way to bond and get to know each other lol
