Rough Day
Pairing: Lin-Manuel Miranda x Reader
Words: 2,637
Warnings: NSFW (18+), Smut (what’s new)
Summary: You have a rough day at work- your devastatingly gorgeous husband, Lin-Manuel, helps you feel better.
-
Tumblr media Tumblr media
You get home from a really long, stressful day at work. Pulling your keys out, you unlock the door to your apartment and as you enter, you throw your keys and purse on the counter before struggling to take off your jacket. You close your eyes and sigh, then as you finally look up, you see Lin sitting on the couch, looking at you, his eyes full of worry.
Still looking at you he was the first to speak, “Honey, what’s wrong?” Then you shake your head and feel tears starting to well up in your eyes- Lin notices right away. “Oh, no, [Y/N], don’t cry! C’mere, baby.” He says as he holds his hand out- you walk over to the couch and take it as he pulls you to sit on top of him.
“Rough day at work?” He asks as he gently rubs his hands around your back, causing you to smile at his touch. “Yeah- it’s just, I just feel like I’m the only one who ever gets shit done. All my coworkers have had like a stick up their ass or something and I just can’t handle it anymore, they all just make me so mad and I just don’t know if I wanna work there anymore. God, all of those people fucking suck and I feel like shit for bringing it home and taking it out on you, but I just hate them all so fucking mu-“ You felt yourself be cut off by Lin placing his lips against yours, his tongue running against your bottom lip before you opened your mouth to him. You whimpered quietly as you felt his teeth tug on your bottom lip, then pull, allowing it to bounce back to your mouth.
“Don’t cry, mi amor. You’re the hardest working person I know, and I love you so much, but since you’re feeling so upset about this... I think I can make you feel better.”
Seeing the look in his eyes, you felt your heart skip a beat as you knew exactly what he meant. You gently grabbed his face, then placed your lips back on his, the two of you emerging in a deep, passionate kiss. Still straddling him, you began slowly rolling and grinding your hips down against his, the friction of your jeans and panties rubbing against your clit causing you to throw your head back with a soft gasp as Lin began to kiss and suck at your neck and jawline. You pushed on Lin’s chest to get him to move back a bit as you grabbed the edges of your shirt, and took it off, slowly revealing your body to him, suddenly forgetting about your terrible day as you watched Lin openly stare at and admire your body, taking in the lace of your bra.
“Fuck, baby, you’re so beautiful. You’re so SEXY. God, I could look at you all day...”
He trailed off as his warm hands began roaming your back, quickly moving to the front of your body in order to grab your breasts as you continued to rock against him. You reach down to grab the hem of the blue sweater he had been wearing, then pulled it off, only to be greeted by a button up shirt he had been wearing underneath.
“You had another photo shoot today?”
“Yeah, why?”
“No reason, you just look so fucking hot.”
“Says you.”
He says with a wink as you start working on unbuttoning his shirt, biting your lip as you felt his hands reach up to the clip at the front of your bra and unclip it, allowing it to fall off the back of your shoulders. His eyes were fully blown with lust at this point, and as soon as your bra was completely off, he began alternating between sucking, kissing, and licking at your nipples, which were peaked despite the heat of the situation. You stopped unbuttoning his shirt and softly moaned, throwing your head back as he tugged lightly with his teeth, leaving you breathless. As you somewhat came back to your senses, you finished taking off his shirt, and threw it in the same direction as your own.
“Fuck this, let’s get you out of these jeans, baby.”
“You too, papi.”
You said with a smirk before you both stood up and got out of your jeans, leaving you both in only your underwear. Lin stood there for a second, just staring at you before he grabbed your ass and pulled you into a heavy kiss, his tongue in your mouth, causing you to press your bare chests together and you placed your hands against his firm, strong chest, slowly trailing your soft hands down his body- feeling him shiver as you ran your fingers over his soft stomach before palming him through his underwear. He groaned softly against your lips, then he gently sat you down on the couch as he got on his knees in front of you, his hands slowly trailing up and down your legs as you spread them open for him.
“How wet are you, mi amor? How bad do you need me, mami?”
“Fuck, papi, I need you so bad. You make me so wet- I’m so wet for you, Lin. Please, please eat me out, papi.”
“Anything for my princesa.”
He said as he hooked his fingers along the edges of your panties and slowly pulled them down your legs. When he took them off, Lin began placing kisses along the inside of your thighs, making you grow even wetter as he got closer to where you most desperately needed him. He grabbed your ass, pulling you closer to him as he pressed a kiss to you clit, his meticulous, talented tongue wiggling over it before he sucked it into his mouth, causing your eyes to roll back as you gasped and bit your lip, overcome with pleasure.
He continued this for a few seconds before you felt him begin to fuck his tongue in and out of you, his thumb rubbing circles around your clit, making you arch your back high against the couch. Lin moaned in appreciation as he felt your wetness increasing as he continued eating you out. As your legs began to shake and as your breathing became more and more ragged, you grabbed onto his hair, running your fingers through it and rocking your hips against his lips as he began fucking his tongue in and out of you faster and as his thumb increased its pace- the tip of his nose was rubbing against your clit as well and that sent you into overdrive.
“Oh shhhhit, Lin- Papi, I’m- I can’t- fuck, I’m gonna cum!”
“Yeah, yeah, that’s it, cum for me, baby. Cum for papi.”
As you looked down at him once more, you saw him wink at you, and that sent you over the edge. Moaning, your back arched as your legs shook and you trapped his head between your thighs, cumming harder than ever. Lin was good and very talented in MANY areas, but his greatest talent was how amazing he was in bed and how amazing he was able to make you feel.
As you came down, you felt light and like your body was almost vibrating from how hard you came and from how good you felt. Still panting, you felt Lin begin to kiss his way back up your body, providing special attention to your neck as he sucked a hickey onto your pulse point. You took a deep breath, and puffed out your cheeks before you were able to find your voice again.
“That was- fuck, that was so good.”
“Yeah? Well, if you enjoyed that, you better brace yourself, cause baby, we’re nowhere near done.”
You felt the beat of your heart begin to quicken as Lin stood up and pulled his underwear down, allowing his erection to bounce out of the restraints. Even now, after 6 wonderful years of marriage and being his girlfriend for 5 years before that, you are still in awe at how big he is. As you eyed his size, you looked up at Lin and saw him biting his lip as he moved his hand down to slowly stroke himself, the look in his eyes giving you goosebumps.
Lin leaned down and firmly kissed you, while slowly pushing to where your back was flat on the couch. Without once breaking the passionate, heated make out you two were in, he nudged your legs open and began rubbing his cock against your pussy, spreading your wetness up to your clit and making you moan in his mouth. You wrapped your legs around his waist, hands running up and down his back as he began kissing and sucking on your neck, running his tongue over the bruised area as he continued to grind his cock against you, not yet entering you. You began growing more and more needy as each second passed, but you knew that he was doing this just to take care of you.
“L-Lin... Papi, please.”
“Please what, baby?”
“Please fuck me. I need you to fuck me hard, papi, please...”
“Look at me, mi amor.”
You moved your head so you could look him straight in his big, beautiful brown eyes. Blushing, you were met with him looking at you with so much love and adoration, it made your heart flutter. Lin was always able to do that- even if you were both worked up in the heat of moment, he was always able to make your heart flutter just by the way he would look at you.
“You’re so beautiful, [Y/N]. I love you so much. I’m always going to be here to take care of you, my love.”
“I love you too- ohhhhh, fuuuuck! Liiiiin!”
You were cut off by Lin burrowing himself deep inside you, the head of his cock hitting that perfect spot. For just a second, you were both completely still, just breathing in each other’s breaths, just taking in how good this feels, and when he started moving, it was like heaven.
His thrusts started off slow, hips slowly rocking against yours as he would barely withdraw from you, keeping a steady pace inside you- the kind of pace that made your heart light up, a more loving pace. As your moans began to grow louder and louder, Lin started to pick up the pace, and god, it’s so good. Your hands clawed at his back, feeling his muscles tense up underneath, as he hit your g-spot, causing you to lose your breath and gasp against him.
“Shhhit, Lin- Papi, I’m- Fuck, you feel so good baby. Papi, I’m gonna cum- Fuck, I’m gonna cum! Please don’t stop, baby, it feels so- oh fuck- so fucking good!”
“Cum for me baby, cum all over my cock.”
Immediately, you clenched around his cock, the power of his thrusts shaking you hard as you reached your peak. Your moans quickly turned into gasps and almost screams of pleasure as Lin continued to fuck you through your orgasm, kissing your neck, breasts, and jawline to keep you somewhat calm despite him feeling his own release coming. At the top of it, you’re more than sure that you screamed, your visioned whitening out, but you didn’t care- not when it felt this good.
As you came down, you felt Lin’s thrust slow down, then stop all together, giving you time to come down from the intense amounts of pleasure you just experienced.
“Why’d you stop?”
“I want you to ride me, baby. Can you do that for me?”
Smirking, you pushed Lin off of you, allowing him to sit up, his back against the back of the couch as you sat up and straddled him again, feeling his hands grip your bare ass. Your heart was beating out of you chest, you’re sure that he could hear it, but you didn’t care. Leaning down to kiss him, you placed your hands on his shoulders, running your hands along his strong muscles. When you pulled away, you gripped his cock- he was hard enough to where you didn’t have to grab him, but it was always nice just to feel him.
Raising yourself up, you slowly sunk down onto his cock, the both of you sighing as he was all the way in. Lin leaned his head down and lightly bit at your nipple, pulling back and peppering kisses along your collarbone. When you began to slowly bounce up and down on him, he threw his head back, overcome with pleasure.
“Fuck, [Y/N], baby, your pussy feels so good around my cock. I love you so much, mi amor- holy shhiiit! You like riding Papi’s cock, baby? You like how I feel inside you?”
“Baby- Lin, I- fuck, papi, you feel so good! Oh, FUCK!”
You gasped as Lin started thrusting his hips up into you, his cock hitting the perfect spot inside of you. You felt the warmth in the bottom of your stomach begin to build up as your third orgasm was quickly approaching, your nails scraping down Lin’s chest as his hands gripped your ass even firmer, him beginning to lose control as well.
“Shit, baby, I’m gonna- fuck me, you feel so good- I’m gonna cum baby. Cum with me, [Y/N], fuck, cum with me.”
You were both moaning together, his cock slamming hard into you as you both chased your orgasms. Lin leaned up and kissed you hard on your lips, his tongue making its way into your mouth as he moaned against your lips. He pulled away, pressing your foreheads together as he slammed his last thrusts home, the two of you cumming together, your back arching which pushed your breasts into his mouth.
You got off of him, exhausted, panting, sweating, but in a much better mood. You laid down on the couch with your arm laid across your forehead, a smile planted across your face as you felt Lin softly running his fingers along your legs, which were laid out across his thighs. He looked over at you and leaned down and over to kiss you sweetly, his mouth moving slowly against yours, massaging your lips as you grabbed his face and smiled against his lips.
“That was- fuck, so good. Definitely made up for today.”
“I’m glad. You deserve everything, mi amor. I love you so much.”
“Do I deserve a shower?”
“As long as I can join you.”
He said with a smile, and you laughed when you got up, your legs still wobbly but luckily, Lin caught you from behind as he laughed too. He picked you up bridal style, then carried you into the bathroom. When you both stepped into the warm flow of the shower, you stood with your back against Lin’s chest, allowing him to wash off your body. Stepping out of the shower and drying off, Lin put on a pair of underwear and handed you an old t-shirt of his for you to sleep in. When you got into bed, Lin wrapped his arms around your waist, pulling you close to him as he kissed the back of your neck, bringing a smile to your face and a blush to your cheeks.
“Goodnight, [Y/N], I love you sooooo much.”
“I love you too, Lin. Thank you for making me feel better. I’m gonna have to pay you back one day.”
You said, facing him, with a smirk as you placed your hands on his chest.
“Haha, I know you will, but just being with you, and you being my wife is enough for me. Get some rest, mami. I love you.”
He said as he placed a kiss on your forehead.
“I love you more.”

Just finished watching NPMD and here are my observations:
Oh starting right away with Richie's death
OHHHH It's the first time we actually hear Lauren and Jon sing together, even for just a lil bit
The Watcher World callback with the hammer and the phone
Every Mariah character: MY PICTURES ON MY PHONE, Me: gurl back it up on Cloud
Awwww Ruth
That one person who cheered louder than anyone else when Pete stood up for himself
Everyone collectively going "awww" when Pete shows up with the black eye
The Chasitys have such a cute color scheme. Would wear. But like. Mark's outfit has such gay vibes tho. Like. Stereotypical gay outfit.
Pfft that one person who cackled the Loudest during the dinner scene
Max, climbing in the tub with his jeans on: *vine voice* He's washing him and his jeans. He's washing him and his jeans.
Oh Mark showing up after Dirty Girl is literally like that scene with Hanschen during My Junk in Spring Awakening.
LISTEN. About two years ago, I was watching SAF and my dad looked over my shoulder AND HE THOUGHT JOEY WAS LIN MANUEL MIRANDA
Max: I'm gonna kick your ass!, Me: *Ted voice* Not his head
Wait. But his reaction to the prank is so wholesome and precious actually.
Gurl. Just let it stay an accident and destroy the footage instead. Don't be stupid.
I remember saying Bryce as Brenda. Glad that it happened.
Hatchet Town is basically just "Your Fault" from Into the Woods huh
Pete and Ruth sound a lot like Scrags and Esther ngl
I love Kyle. Himbo dude.
The shift when Clivesdale is introduced.
The way everyone also awwed when Richie got appreciated. I don't think a show goes by without Jon's character being loved
It's interesting that the hs kids don't want to be mean and aren't inherently mean, they were just pressured into being mean
Ohhh. He got bedazzled. Like Edward Cullen.
I want the cast recording so I can hear Jon and Will sing at each other more clearly
Boy Jerry's a reporter? I mean sure, I assumed they have jobs when it's off-season for camp, but I didn't expect journalism
What does Bryce's character know about Boy Jerry's murder spree tho?
Everyone's talking about Boy Jerry throwing Girl Jeri under the bus, but not Dan agreeing with Boy Jerry in accusing Donna
Hatchet Town is just Your Fault from Into the Woods huh
Steph protecting Ruth parallels Steph looking after Hannah
hc that Joey's character in the bbq monologues is whoever played Joey's roles in the Hatchetfield production of TTO
Jon's delivery ohmygod lmaoooo
Oh and Mariah's character, Caitlyn/Kaitlin, feels like a mini Zoey
Ruth sweetieeee you are so brilliant
Ruth having a mushroom on her shirt like the "I'm a failure" meme
The way they pull off Max's teleportation is so so good
Kim is the queen of horrified screams now
Tumblr media
YESSSS HE SAID THE MIRANDA RIGHTS he ain't got a warrant tho
Considering tgwdlm was 2018, and it's 2023 now, then it HAS been FIVE YEARS since Peter asked for his hot chocolate from Emma
GARY PUPPY PAID ATTENTION WHEN HE HEARD PAUL. Because of he still recognizes Jon.
Tumblr media
Pfft Paul having more balls than Pete
Okay it's vague enough that it can be interpreted that Paul doesn't die. I didn't think Emma would do the Linda screech tho. It's always enough to startle and disorient tho.
THE COSTUMES THE COSTUMES I LOVE THE COSTUMES
Oh I have a theory behind what Tinky says. But it's going in a separate post
The LiBs going "WE DON'T WANT YOUR PHONE"
In Once Upon a Time, it is customary to give up "the thing you love most" in exchange for extremely powerful magic.
Ahahaha as a Catholic I can confirm that Grace's opinion on Catholicism is mostly correct
I feel like if Pete did die, it would prevent him from turning into a horny bastard like Ted tho. Which may potentially save him from Tinky
And Pete letting himself get shot to save the woman he loves, would parallel Ted's sacrifice in Ape Man
That one person who very audibly goes "WHAT THE FUCK" when Max takes the bullet for Pete
Grace saying her type is dudes who come back from the dead. And I'm like. "AND THEY'RE BOTH RIPPED AS FUCK"
Annnd now the tables have turned on Joey after eating Sally out in the choir room.
Aaaat least she can't get knocked up?
Where'd she get that cigarette tho
The hair flip that accompanied the spin
GARY PUPPY CUDDLED UP TO THE LAPTOP WHEN HE HEARD WIGGLY
Kim's teacher character is so cute
The "awwww" when Pete and Steph came to homecoming together. Also Pete's bow tie will always match whatever Steph's wearing
Are we all in agreement that Jon and Will's homecoming characters are dating?
Grace. YOU ASKED.
Hmm. A soul-sucking spell especially targeting guys? Sounds like what Sheila had.
"Guys who came before"? Who else did she hook up with between the ghost's death and homecoming?
It's the return of Angela's iconic witch laugh
But Grace how long is that gonna work out for you. You gonna eventually use contraception? Have magic contraception? Or eventually get knocked up? Just sayin'

After all this time- I finally have a good ref for my Fallout New Vegas Courier 6: Riley Redmont Haddock. (But friends just call him "Red") AKA the nerdy human embodiment of anxiety.
+ some doodles of him with various companions I plan for him to have in my playthrough.
Riley is my timid, easily annoyed, anxiety-ridden mess of a wasteland wanderer. Dude has an affinity for robots, tinkering, inventing, repairing and general science nerdery. Poor guy is wrapped up in an absolute bullshit chain of events and is quietly losing his shit.
If you wanna know a little more about the dude, I'll leave more info under the cut. (I'd also be more than happy to answer any asks about the dude.)
Name: Riley Redmont Haddock
Age: Mid-30s
Pronouns: He/Him (Transmasc)
Sexuality: Gay/Ace
(Current) Voice Claim: Lin Manuel Miranda. Mainly just because of his voice as Fenton Crackshell Cabrera/Sheriff Marshall Cabrera from Ducktales 2017. That is, unless I find a better voice.
Personality: Timid and overwhelmingly anxious, and a bit easily irritated in the face of his new travels. Due to his affinity with tech, he tends to be more comfortable around robots than people. (At first, at least.) A bit near-sighted and stuck inside his own head, while still fiercely looks after people close to him. Over time in his adventures, he slowly develops into a more confident, collected, yet reckless person.
Bio:
Riley grew up being the child of a Mojave legend known as "The Scarlet Rider", a woman (named Ellie) famed as a masked vigilante who fought to help the people of the Mojave wastes as the stories would tell. But people rarely knew abot "Scarlet's little girl". (Riley had obviously not "cracked the egg" yet for a good while.) Growing up with a traveller and masked hero for a mother, he learned a lot of what formed him into the person he is. Being a decent shot, a skilled mechanic, and more.
But when in a tragic incident his mother disappears, presumed dead, Riley was then sought after and brought in by his estranged father. This man, however, wasn't exactly as noble as his mother. Him being a notorious crime boss of the Vegas area. Having to spend his teenage years as a pawn to a crime lord, certain events would lead to him running off at the age of 16.
Now with his father's men after him, and almost no one to turn to, Riley would travel across the Mojave wastes and other surrounding areas to find safety.
Young Riley ends up finding a group of travelling performers, who he spends his time with for some years. But after a tragic death in the group, the remaining members break apart- leaving Riley on his own again.
Riley starts further developing his skills in robotics where he finds his love for tinkering and repairs. His endless tinkering ends up in the creation of his closest companion, Buddy. A tiny companion robot made completely from scrap, but somehow harboring an endless rabid thirst for violence and wanton destruction. But due to his size, he's effectively harmless. And for a while, he's Riley's one close friend.
So over the years, he's gotten around the wasteland by keeping his head down and taking various jobs and roles. Scavenger, singer, mechanic, and many more.
To Riley, his position as a courier is just a temporary gig "to get me from here to there". He's never really been too attached to it. But with his latest gig, he didn't really have any idea what this seemingly insignificant job would be getting him into.
Because that fateful night with the poker chip and the man in the checkered suit- Well, it just changed everything to say the least.
After the shock from taking a nasty shot to the head wears off, Riley isn't looking for any petty revenge- but answers. Because he can tell something is deeply wrong. And he's just too damn curious to let it go.
Random Info:
Riley tends to be a bit of a "robot whisperer". He seems to become friendly with bots a lot easier than he does with other people. This is typically due to his repair skills, but he generally seems to socialize easier with robots. (Prior to the NV story at least.) For example, he tends to get along pretty well with Victor early in his journey. And the first real 'companion' he meets is ED-E.
As mentioned- prior to the events of the game, Riley has a connection/history with one of the companion characters. Raul Tejada was a close friend of Riley's mother Ellie. So as a kid, Riley grew with Raul as a sort of uncle-figure. After his mother disappearing and him being turned over to his father, they lost contact. After running away from his father, he would come across Raul again, but it wouldn't last for long before he would have to run again with his father's men searching for him. Sadly, they wouldn't meet again for many years until Riley comes across him imprisoned in Black Mountain.
Riley has no idea just how in high hell this happened, but he manages to form a decent relationship with The Kings. He can't explain why he's friends with them, it just... happened. And he's incredibly confused about the whole thing. The King lets him hang out with his adorable robo-dog, though, so he's not complaining.
He also tends to hang around the Followers of the Apocolypse on occasion after bringing ED-E to them. He just tends to chat around with the members- (Arcade in particular.) But he likes to fix any broken tech around, so nobody really complains.
Riley has a texan accent! He tends to hide it around people, but it tends to slip out when he's emotional. (Extremely angry, extremely happy/excited, you get the idea.) Or when he's around certain people, like close friends. As the story goes along, he tends to hide it less and less.
Riley has an interest in various pre-war topics. Specifically, pre-war fashion, pop culture, and music. He believes that if he was born before the war (or if the war never happened) he would be working in fashion. Namely, working in a bridal parlor.
With his additional background in music/performing, he knows a few instruments! Namely guitar, violin, and a little piano.

Burr: Part 01.
As someone who has been doing research on Aaron Burr for years and years now, something that genuinely frustrates me about "Hamilton: An American Musical" is how Burr's character is treated throughout the entirety of it. It's very strange because to me, it seemed as though they were downplaying/disregarding Burr's own accomplishments in order to bring light to Hamilton's and put him on a pedestal instead. The way they go about this in the musical is very odd. Burr has been dehumanized and villainzed throughout history and his actual life due to his enemies - men like Hamilton himself, Thomas Jefferson, and so on. Vindictive people who made it their life/were dedicated to ruining Burr's life and reputation. Many lyrics stand out to me and I can't help but roll my eyes at some of them. Even in the first song of the musical alone; "His enemies destroyed his rep, America forgot him." That line speaks more to Burr than it does to Hamilton. The damage Burr's enemies, Hamilton included, still lingers around today and he's still known as one of the most hated men in history. Even more so because of how many people refuse to do actual research on him, they watch a musical, or read two pages from a very biased and not very credible book (Chernow, I'm coming for you), then come to a conclusion/form an opinion on someone they truly know nothing about simply due to the fact that they didn't care enough to educate themselves. Lin Manuel Miranda himself admitted that when he was writing this play that Burr was an after thought, didn't see him as human. Though with how much he praised Chernow's book - to the point where he wrote an entire musical based off that nonsense - I would be lying if I said I was surprised, I didn't expect anything more or less. The historical inaccuracies and lack of research always did bother me when it came to this musical in particular. The little "America forgot him" line bothers me as well because as small of a line as it is, it just is not true. Hamilton's family have been fighting for him since the day of his death (for over 100 years), saving his reputation and painting him in the best light in order to secure his legacy. He's the guy on the ten dollar bill, numerous statues of this man posted not only in New York, but in Boston, Chicago, etc. There's one in the U.S Capitol. What about this screams "forgotten"?

Hamlet and Hamilton
I'm currently studying Shakespeare for an exam, and I'm obsessing over Hamlet (in particular). I was thinking about it while listening to some songs from Hamilton, and I realised the similarities there are between the two.
I'll list what I thought about (I had the epiphany while I was talking with my dearest, @thelittlemars)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Imo Horatio and Eliza are the same characters in slightly different fonts (one is written in renaissance English while the other in Lin Manuel Miranda lol jk), let me elaborate: both Horatio and Eliza have, to me, the worst fate because they're the only people who survive the events of the story. They're also the ones with the responsibility of telling the history of the main character after their death
Aaron Burr (sir lol) and Hamlet are drowned in doubt and insecurities. They're so afraid of losing what they love that they end up waiting (for it) too much and eventually lose everything
Both Hamilton and Hamlet are blinded by their legacies and honour, and in this state, they destroy, but at the same time "give life" to something new: the actions of Hamilton lead to the sudden and unfair death of his son but thanks to him "America was born" (with the constitution) while, Hamlet lead to the destruction of the royal family but after that a new kingdom was risen
Hamlet and Hamilton are also persecuted by spirits of time, Hamlet is (LITERALLY) acting based on the words of a ghost of the past (his father), while Hamilton is obsessed by the thought of the future (who will tell his story and HOW and WHAT will they tell)
Hamlet and Hamilton are characters whose existence is surrounded by death: Hamlet is the icon of meloncholy, him and Hamilton grow with death and represent the image of "memento mori", death follows them and the idea of "to kill or to be killed" is embodied in their stories
I think the TO BE or NOT TO BE discourse could be appropriate also in Hamilton. Eliza chooses to erase herself from the narrative (she chooses to NOT BE) but ultimately decides to put herself back in the narrative (TO BE again), like Horatio wanted to end it all after the death of Hamlet but has to keep going for his dear prince
I think both Horatio and Eliza's decision TO BE, to keep living, for their loved ones symbolize an act of great and deep love
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
That's it!

Went to see the live action little mermaid at the behest of my family. I wasn't planning on seeing it (I'm not a big fan of the Disney Live action remake trend) but I was pleasantly surprised. Here are my thoughts:
Pros:
-The actor playing prince Eric was fantastic. Probably my favorite part of the movie. Great actor, gorgeous singing voice, brought a lot of life to the character that I genuinely enjoyed. I wish him well in his career!
-On that note: prince Eric's song "uncharted waters" was awesome. Great addition. Also very fond of the "for the first time" song Ariel has on the surface.
- The romance between Ariel and Eric felt a lot more organic. The little things that they added to their characters, a couple of extra scenes, made the connection between them feel real and genuine. They laid a foundation for a realistic relationship with shared passion and interests. Also Jonah and Halle had great chemistry.
-It was genuinely beautiful. I know we've seen the trailers and gifsets and gone "Eugh, that looks tacky" but in the theatre it looked so beautiful and vivid and real.
-The HAIR. The underwater HAIR. How did they animate that so well??? It looked amazing!
-Melissa McCarthy as Ursula: great casting. She WENT for it and it was super fun. Daveed Diggs as Sebastian was also delightful.
Cons:
- Halle's acting dramatically improved once she was "on the surface" and not against a green screen. I totally understand why but it was a little off putting for the first half of the movie.
-They commit the same sin as every movie nowadays: dogshit audio mixing. I mentioned that "uncharted waters" song? Had to go listen to it again after I saw the movie because I couldn't understand half the words. We've gotta hear the crashing waves instead of the dialogue I guess. 🙄
-Genuinely disliked the scuttlebutt rap. It felt so out of place. Just like "well Lin Manuel Miranda is writing and Awkwafina and Daveed Diggs are here, so let's shoehorn a rap into this"
-I'm sure there's a way Flounder could have been cuter. Give me a chubby fish dammit.
- When Ariel was touching all the jellyfish stingers, I viscerally cringed 😂
- (insert every single one of the usual critiques of Disney Live action remakes here)
Overall, I enjoyed the movie. I'm still not a fan of the Disney Live action remakes but this is a good addition to the canon.
(also I didn't touch on this because it's been discussed to death but I do think casting a black actor to play Ariel is unambiguously good 👍 Halle did great in the role)

what are some musicals you suggest?
oh boyyyyyyyy okay okay lol, here goes. please excuse any typos.
- in the heights (the broadway version is better, but there's a movie too)!! this is about a latinx community in NY and it shows individual characters' journey. very fun, very boppy. kinda fast paced rappy hip hop sort of music :) i love love love it and there's some good belters, too. also it's lin manuel miranda, so. u can't go wrong.
- 21 chump street: another lin manuel miranda one bc i Love him. it's only five songs, and the entire soundtrack is the musical (so there's no dialogue outside of it). it's about a police woman posing as a student in a highschool to catch drug crime, except one of the guys ends up falling for her. it's sooo fun.
- west side story (the original, but the movie is good too): dramatic deaths?? an overused romeo and juliet trope?? unrealistic but enrapturing relationships?? yes pls. plus it's steven sondheim and if u thought u couldn't go wrong with lin, u RLLY can't go wrong with steven.
- next to normal: so underrated, it's about a mother who struggles with bipolar disorder and is trying to help her family stay together. there was a tragedy within it earlier in the musical, and it's just long and hard and emotional. there's some tws for this one but the voices are beeeyoutofull.
- HADESTOWN. my favorite musical probably. it's a retelling of orpheus and eurydice and it is tragic and heartbreaking and has so many takes on these familiar characters. and the soundtrack is freaking incredible . persephone was my gay awakening <3
- dear evan hansen: personal vendetta aside, ben platt has this wailing whiny thing going on that kinda nails the part. this is like one of The musicals (along with hamilton), so everyone knows it, but it's popular for a reason. it's about a kid who commits suicide and then another kid gets wrapped up in it and starts lying to his family... it's a whole big thing and evan (protag) is kind of a douche, but he's painted in a good light 👍 there's a movie soundtrack, but i don't like it much except for the newer songs they added.
bonus: the lightning thief musical. i stuck it at the bottom bc it's percy jackson, so it's not it's own thing but like. IT MAKES ME EMOTIONAL. u have to listen to the bonus track version tho. i cannot listen to try without wanting to burst into tears actually. and george salazar plays grover, which is the only information u should need. (see: be more chill)
okay i actually have sooo many more, so if u need any other pls feel free to ask :))

ENOUGH!!! ((Encanto Version))
((Enough is a song from In The Heights. Which is written by Lin Manuel Miranda who also wrote the lyrics for the song in Encanto. So I made the song in Encanto Version))
*Alma and Pepa began arguing about Félix while Pedro growing tired and annoyed by all the screaming and fighting between them*
Pedro:
Oh my god, enough!
Now you listen to me!!
Pepa:
Papa
Pedro:
Mija, I said enough!!
I'm sick of all this fighting
Alma:
Pedro
Pedro:
Yapapapapa!
I think you've said enough
Now listen to what I say
What I say goes!
Mami, you've pushed us all away
Alma:
I'm trying to
Pedro:
I don't wanna hear it! We make decisions as a family
And throwing Félix out like that?
You sound just like your mother!
We both know what a son of a bitch she was!
You think it all comes down to you
Alma:
Papi, let's talk about it
Pedro:
No no no no no!
No no no no no! No, you don't!
When you have a problem you come home
You don't go off and make matters worse on your own
One day you're gonna come back home
And you're not gonna find me waiting any more
Alma:
I'm sorry
Pedro:
Ha....damn right, you're sorry
So you stayed out all night
Pepa:
Papa
Pedro:
I'm talking now!
You scared us half to death, you know that right?
Pepa:
I'm sorry
Pedro:
Don't apologize to me, you save it for your mother
Pepa:
What?
Pedro:
Look at your mother
She doesn't sleep when you're gone
She's worked her whole life to help you go farther
And she can't admit when she's wrong
Now who does that remind you of?
You two deserve each other!
For months you lied to us
What did we do
To make you think we wouldn't do anything and everything for you?
When you have a problem, you come home
You don't run off and hide from your family all alone!
You hear me?
When you have a problem, you come home
As long as we're alive, you're never on your own
Leave Félix!
Take Félix!
It doesn't make any difference, as long as you come home!
Alma:
Pedro
Pedro:
No no no no no!
Enough lying!
Enough screaming!
I'm done trying
And I'm leaving it up to you!
It's up to you!
I'll see you both back home!
Enough!

~Superlatives And Thoughts~
Fiction books read: 48 Non-fiction books read: 20
Favorite book: This is so hard! I almost want to three-way tie it between Under The Volcano, The Quick & The Dead, and The Man With The Golden Arm, but I’m not going to. I think my favorite is Under The Volcano by Malcolm Lowry. It’s an absolutely beautiful book with such intense descriptions. The way that it illustrates the vastly different emotional and mental states of its three main characters reminded me of another favorite, Sometimes A Great Notion by Ken Kesey. Lowry is amazing at leaving narrative breadcrumbs, letting the reader find their way through the emotional tangle he’s recording. The way he writes the erratic, confused, crumbling inner monologue of the main character as he grows more and more ill was my favorite part.
Least favorite book: I’d say Withdrawn Traces, but it’s a reread, so I think I’ll have to go with Detransition, Baby by Torrey Peters. I dedicated a whole long post to it already, so I’ll just say that the concept of the book is great. I loved the whole idea of it. But the execution was awful. It’s like the exact opposite of Under The Volcano. The characters didn’t feel like real people, which would have been fine if the book was one written in that kind of surreal or artistic style where characters aren’t expected to speak like everyday people. But the narrative style as well as much of the dialogue was attempting realism, so the lack of realistic humanity of the characters was a big problem. The book didn’t ever give the reader the benefit of the doubt regarding their ability to infer or empathize or figure things out for themselves. Every character’s emotion and reaction was fully explained as it happened, rather than leaving the reader some breathing space to watch characters act or talk and slowly understand what’s going on between them. Points for unique idea and queer literature about actual adults, but massive deduction for the poor execution.
Unexpected/surprising book: The Riddle of the Labyrinth: The Quest to Crack an Ancient Code by Margalit Fox. This is the first book about archaeology I’ve ever read. I picked it up as I was shelving at work, read the inner flap to make sure it was going to the right spot, and then ended up reading the whole thing. It was a fascinating look at the decades-long attempt to crack the ancient Linear B script, the challenges faced by people who tried and the various theories about its origin and what kind of a language/script it was. The book was really engaging, the author was clearly very passionate and emotional about her subjects and it made the whole thing both fascinating and fun to read. And I learned a bunch of new things about history and linguistics and archaeology!
Most fun book: How Lucky by Will Leitch. It was literally just a Fun Book. The main character is a quadriplegic man who witnesses what he thinks is a kidnapping. Because he a wheelchair user and also can’t talk except through typing with one hand, his attempts to figure out and relay to police what he’s seen are hindered, even with the help of his aid and his best friend. But he’s determined to find out what happened and save the victim of the kidnapping. It’s just a fun book, an adventure, the narrative voice is energetic and good-natured and it doesn’t go deeply into symbolism or philosophy or anything.
Book that taught me the most: Destruction Was My Beatrice by Jed Rasula. This book probably isn’t for everyone, but I love Dadaism, so this book was absolutely for me. I had a basic knowledge of the Dadaist art movement before, but I learned so much, and gained a few new favorite artists as well as a lot of general knowledge about the Dada movement and its offshoots and members and context and all sorts of cool stuff.
Most interesting/thought provoking book: Moby Dick by Herman Melville. I annotated my copy like crazy. I never had to read it in school, but I had a blast finally reading it now. There’s just so much going on in it, symbolically and narratively. I think I almost consider it the first Modernist novel, because it felt more Modernist than Romantic to me. I had to do so much googling while reading it because there are so many obscure biblical references that are clear symbolism, and my bible knowledge is severely lacking. This book gave me a lot of thoughts about narrative and the construction of the story, the mechanic of a narrator that’s not supposed to be omniscient but still kind of is, and so many other things. I really love Moby Dick, and I kind of already want to reread it.
Other thoughts/Books I want to mention but don’t have superlatives for: Funeral Rites was the best book by Jean Genet, which I was not expecting compared to how much I loved his other works. It would be hard for me to describe exactly why I liked this one so much to people who don’t know his style and his weird literary tics, because it really is a compounding of all those weird passions and ideals and personal symbols he had, but I really loved it. Reading The Grip Of It by Jac Jemc taught me that House Of Leaves has ruined me for any other horror novel that is specifically environmental. It wasn’t a bad book, just nothing can surpass House Of Leaves for horror novels about buildings. The Man With The Golden Arm by Nelson Algren was absolutely beautiful. I went in expecting a Maltese Falcon-type noir and instead I got a novel that was basically poetry about characters who were flawed and fucked up and sad but totally lovable. Plus it takes place only a few blocks from my workplace! The Rainbow Stories by William T Vollmann was amazing and I totally love his style. I think out of all the stories in that book my favorite was probably The Blue Yonder, the piece about the murderer with a sort of split personality. Scintillant Orange with all its biblical references and weird modernization of bible stories was a blast too. The Quick & The Dead by Joy Williams was amazing and one of my favorites this year. It’s sort of surreal, a deliberately weird novel about three weird girls without mothers. I loved the way Williams plays with her characters like a cat with a mouse, introducing them just to mess with them and then tossing them away -- but always with some sort of odd symbolic intent. All the adult characters talk and act more like teens and all the teenage characters talk and act like adults. It’s a really interesting exploration of the ways to process grief and change and growing up, all with the weirdest characters. Joe Gould’s Teeth was an amazing book, totally fascinating. One of our regulars at work suggested it to me, and he was totally right in saying it was a really cool book. It’s a biography of Joe Gould, a New York author who was acquaintances with EE Cummings and Ezra Pound, among others, who said he was writing an “oral history of our time.” Lepore investigates his life, the (non)existence of said oral history, and Gould’s obsession with a Harlem artist that affected his views of race, culture, and what he said he wanted to write. McGlue by Ottessa Moshfegh was so good, although I only read it because 3 out of my other 5 coworkers had read it and they convinced me to. I had read a bunch of negative reviews of Moshfegh’s other book, so I went in a bit skeptical, but I ended up really enjoying McGlue. The whole time I read it, it did feel a bit like I was reading Les Miserables fanfiction, partly from the literary style and partly just from the traits of the main character. But I did really enjoy it, and the ending was really lovely. In terms of literature that’s extremely unique in style, The Hour Of The Star by Clarice Lispector is probably top of the list this year. Her writing is amazing and so bizarre. It’s almost childlike but also so observant and philosophical, and the intellectual and metaphorical leaps she makes are so fascinating. I read her short piece The Egg And The Chicken a few months ago at the urging of my coworker, and thought it was so cool, and this little novel continues in that same vein of bizarre, charming, half-philosophical and half-mundane (but also totally not mundane at all) musings.
I'm still in the middle of reading The Commitments by Roddy Doyle (my lunch break book) and The Hero With A Thousand Faces by Joseph Campbell, but I'm not going to finish either by the end of the year, so I'm leaving them off the official list.

⚠️TW: MENTIONS OF DEATH/BLOOD⚠️

“I never meant to go down this far on the path. I only wanted salvation for the people I once led, to find peace in these… these angering situations.
“This, however…” I say, as I gesture out into a dusty, barren wasteland, crumbling ruins dotting the horizon. “This… was too far.
“This was something that started off as a simple, fairly easy thing. Nothing TOO violent, like killing, or maiming, no. Something like building up peaceful forces, not having it evolve into military against military.
“I went too far. And I’ll never be able to take it back. Not that I’d never try.”
I suddenly cough violently, strange, unnatural sounds echo from my lungs. Pain wracks my body, causing me to double over, and kneel on the ground, a warm, metallic liquid spilling out of my mouth, and onto the dirt below.
“Well that’s new.” I mutter to myself.
I stand up, brushing the accumulated dirt and debris off of me, holding back another coughing fit.
As I look around, I see all the people I’ve killed, all staring at me with pitying eyes. It’s quite angering, yet also humbling.
I hear tiny whispers of them begging me to join them on the other side, that it’s safer, and they’re happier.
Maybe.
My vision starts to blur. Doubles of the people I once called friends rush towards me as I stumble, legs weakening. The whispers slowly get louder, begging me to let go. Louder still, my heart slows its beating. Louder, my vision starts to fade…
And then the voices stop.
My beating heart stops.
My breathing stops.
And my consciousness fades into nothingness.
