Medvezhonok by lanyon & fanart by feanorinleatherpants

A6, selfended with the fanart placed on the “endpapers”. Bookcloth is silver & red, with winter soldier arm lines and the title printed on -the silver didn’t take the printing well but I think it looks ok! And I like the faded-looking title, it fits with the fic. the star on the cover is a cutout.

this is one of my all-time favourite winter soldier fics, wherein Bucky finds himself liberating and looking after a child created as an experiment with his DNA. the child is brainwashed (and beloved Bucky to be his dad) but through well-meaning but perhaps inadequate caretaking & affection they become a family unit. highly recommended!

Step One: ignore Jekyll’s comments that his actions as Hyde started growing “towards the monstrous” and that not only he had to distance himself from them but also actively work to undo the damage done.

Step Two: thusly pretend that, bar the child trampling, the murder, and him randomly assaulting a woman on the street, the latter always glossed over, all the “evil” Hyde has ever done was just bad by Victorian standards such as being gay and doing drag.

Step Three: notice that Lanyon, who is relatively underdeveloped compared to other characters and is only characterized as being overly friendly, and judgemental, calls Jekyll/Hyde a morally fucked monster after Jekyll confessed to him everything Hyde had done, which, let me remind you, includes things Jekyll had to actively work to repair, but that the fandom assumes to be generally harmless.

Step Four: assume Lanyon is queerphobic, somehow, since he’s antagonistic towards a queer-coded character, nevermind he is antagonistic towards him because he’s a criminal and a literal monster, make fanon based on that assumption.

Step Five: congratulations, everyone hates him for no reason now!
