[Child left in a car, feat. LQR]
Jiang Cheng | Mo Dao Zu Shi Modern AU + cw: child neglect 13-05-2021
[#jiangcheng modern] (cw: child neglect)
jfm feels 100% like the kind of parents that would either forget jc in the car while he goes shopping /or/ leave him there saying he won't take long (then proceed to take an hour). Like, as if he was forced to take jc with him, but he doesn't want to deal with him inside the store so he just leaves him in the car.
Then one day he does just that, saying he will only grab a couple of things jyl asked for to prepare dinner (spoiler alert, he won't take only 5 minutes). He ends up taking /way/ longer, mostly because he receives a work call and ends up distracted by it.
It is a rather hot day, the keys are not in the car to open the window a bit and jc cannot open the door because of one of those child locks on the back doors.
but young jc trust his dad to come back soon, waving some weak hello to a teen passing by the car.
the teen looks a bit troubled by the encounter, especially when he sees no adults in the car and that said car isn't working either. not to help, the poor kid looks a bit red. "shushu, I think there's a child lock in the car" stop the young man, looking back at his uncle.
lqr turns to look at lxc, only to approach and see for himself, the young boy not looking so great despite his smile. He straightened up, looking around to see if anyone is coming their way, wondering for how long exactly this child had been there.
he quickly asks the jc how long he has been in the car, although his answer isn't really precise (jc doesn't have the time). yet he assumes from his answer it must have been a while now. He would try to look quickly for the guardian, but the parking lot connects to many businesses and it would take too much time. So he decides to contact the authorities, told him someone should be on their way now to help him.
the two boys slowly see their usually composed and calm shushu starting to worry and be a bit restless, looking around to see if anyone is coming their way. It has already been easily 10 minutes since they got to this car and no one came.
The boy state is clearly declining and the heat of the day plus the sun hitting directly on the black car doesn't seem to help. The situation is starting to be dangerous and whoever is on their way to help won't get there in 30 sec.
"A-huan, go get a water bottle please," he says as he passes his wallet to the teen who quickly runs to the grocery store to do as instructed. "A-Zhan, stand back a little please," he asks his nephew, quickly doing the same for the boy inside the car.
He breaks the window of the driver, quickly unlocking the doors so he can pull the poor boy out of the oven that had become the car. Soon the teen is back with water bottles, lqr making sure jc is drinking and slowly cooling down. He waits with his two worried nephews, clearly annoyed at such neglect from a guardian. Who leaves a child in a car without anyone with them? Even more on such hot days without even leaving the window cracked open?
jfm joins them not too much before the authorities, confused and angry to notice his window was smashed, only to hear his son call out to him clearly from /outside/ the car.
He turns around to see what is going on, only to freeze when he sees jc clinging to a water bottle, sitting on the ground with two other boys while an older man starts to stand up.
and he recognises him.
he's one of jyl teachers.
lqr is the more angered by this man who he had already noticed some neglect, trying to stay calm. He doesn't really have the time to say anything before the police arrive and they have to all settle it with them. lqr nearly doesn't want to let that poor child go back with such a neglectful man.
years later, when life happens to make them meet again since lqr is still a teacher, he is angered again to learn from jc that this was /not/ the first time his dad had done such a thing, but it had also not be /the last/.
From there lqr takes it upon himself to try and take care of jc.
====
don't mind me having such an idea, brought to you by Morgan who was confused to see police in the parking lot when I got to work, only to learn it was because a child was stuck in a car (not left there by the guardian, the mom had accidentally locked her kid and her keys inside the car, she immediately contacts the police (who were luckily really close) who broke the window for her. the child was stuck in the car for not even 10 min)
anyway, does it show jfm is not one of my fav characters?

Part of Exploring Tropes: Time Travel
Summary: Post-canon Lan Qiren time travels to before the Cloud Recesses lectures. The Cloud Recesses are quiet and peaceful, something his home hasn't been in years. ...In fact, it is too quiet and peaceful. Kay's comments: This story made me cackle. Just. The thought of Lan Qiren taking off to Lotus Pier randomly and just straight-up kidnapping Wei Wuxian so that he can get his nephew-in-law as soon as possible. The added fanart was also really well-done! Super funny! Excerpt: He decides to do his lonely younger nephew a favor (and himself, but that part he won't admit to) and gift him his future husband early. It does not matter that they have not met yet - he knows how their story goes, and if he can save Wangji over a decade of suffering, then by gods he will do it. If Lan Qiren himself gets a very inventive, engaging and intelligent research partner cum nephew-in-law earlier, all the better. If he gets a grandchild early, or - heavens, what joy it would be! - a few grandchildren, then he will not complain, certainly. So he informs those who need to know that he will be unavailable for a day or two - he does not foresee any complications that would warrant a longer absence - and leaves for Lotus Pier.

Fic Finder
March 5th
~*~
1. I’m pretty sure the fic im looking for is a one shot, but it’s been so long I can’t remember: LXC brings WWX (who he’s been teaching musical cultivation) to LQR and is like “he’s never learned this song, watch” and plays something. Then gestures to WWX who plays it perfectly from memory. LXC gestures to him while looking at LQR like “see?” and LQR is impressed
FOUND! multitude Chapter 13: good teacher lan qiren by bunny093 (bamf/genius wwx, the lans are better are sect-ing here, lightly based on a lilo&stitch scene, not yunmeng jiang friendly)
~*~
2. Hello! Looking for a specific fic, at some point wwx transmigrates or reincarnates into the modern world where he is a ceo (?) and was trained by a teacher his whole life about sword fighting etc, and then he eventually gets his memories back and invents a way (i believe it was a device) to dimension/time travel to get back home. @vulpeculatee
~*~
3. Hi, I'm looking for a Wangxian fanfic, where Wei Wuxian is in the Lan sect and he grows mushrooms. I just know that mushrooms were an important part of the fanfic, there was a scene where the other sects followed the Lan disciples to see where they bought the mushrooms. Thanks.
~*~
4. hello! i just finished rereading "switched" (wwx switched with xz) but its ending was wwx finding out that he's pregnant. i remember that there's a part two of that where he gave birth in modern world, and they even cut their own hair but i cant find it. does anybody know where can i find it? or maybe im talking about two different story? im not really sure. thankyouuuuuu!
~*~
5. good day! for the enxt fic finder, do u guys know tha time travel fic where wwx came back during the lectures then he let himself fall from the cliff where lwj was there and told him to let go? thank u in advance!

6. Making a deep dive into my AO3 history is an Exhausting prospect right now, so I must turn to the hive mind. Three fics I'm looking for rn.
A) Meng Yao is running an errand and finds his car beset by a swarm of bees! 🐝🐝🐝 Cue LXC to the rescue.
B) Wei Ying is out on a first date and it's going poorly. Lan Zhan overhears. Tea facts are relevant. 🍵
C) Post-canon case fic, where the case is a mysterious energy that some people can see/sense and some cannot. Can't remember whether WWX just happened to bump into LWJ+ducklings or if they were already hanging out, but the two of them figure their shit out whilst investigating. I think there was a garden involved. And energy-induced kissing (possibly even sex?). @linderel

7. Hi. Hope you are well.
I'm trying (and failing!) to find a WangXian fix I read years ago on Ao3.
From what I remember, Wei WuXian was a Captive of the Wen and kept in a high tower where is tortured and chained with a small window and Lan Zhan also gets captured and put in the same cell of Wei WuXian.
Lan Zhan is there when the Wen soldiers drag Wei WuXian away for torture and they bond. Later Lan Zhan finds out Wei WuXian is a Phoenix and the Wens want his tears. Wen Qing and Wen Ning are his only friends.
Wei WuXian helps Lan Zhan escape and Lan Zhan has to convince the cultivation world to save Wei WuXian but by the time they reach the Wens, they see that Wei WuXian lost control of the Phoenix and Lan Zhan calms him down amidst the fire.
I also remember the fic mentionimg that a Phoenix meant Goodluck.
Thsnk you in advance!

8. thank u so much for all u do! i actually have two fics i’m searching for! i remember reading both in 2021 so i believe that narrows things down!
A) first one is canon divergence from qiongqi path, i remember that wwx almost dies but puts his consciousness into a paperman and his body is somewhat preserved by wen qing till they can find a way to heal him and then transfer his consciousness back but they pretend he died to the other sects (i remember they even go check his body) i remember the wen remnants go to lotus pier pretending to be related to ppl from yunmeg and jzx survives. the whole mess with mxy and the summoning array happens but it fucks it up a little since wwx isn’t actually dead and he becomes something like a spirit/ghost for a while and ends up meeting lwj by accident when he’s taming mxy back to lotus pier. they manage to heal his body and he transfers himself back in and they all live happily ever after.
B) the second one is a fic in a fic series of wangxian having more children and being very domestic that includes past lwj changing places with present lwj for a day and he basically spends the day with wwx, they go farming he helps with the kids, they see lsz for a time, unfortunately that’s all i can remember from it.

9. Hello! I am looking for some help to find a fic. It's a story where Wei Wuxian becomes the ruler of afterlife essentially. All the characters who died before him are there but he has no memory of his past. The only way to get his memory was to go to earth and retrieve them(?). The last chapter I remember is MXY calling him, allowing him to return to the earthly realm.
Please and thank you 😊 @myblurryreality
Thank you for the suggestion but that is not it, unfortunately. The one I'm looking for starts out with Jiang Yanli and Jin Zixuan being in this after life city. They had to struggle for a bit because there death offerings(?) were delayed. Wen Qing was a doctor in the town and helped heal Jin Zixuan from an injury at one point. The reason everyone's offerings were delayed was because there was a new Ruler, who ended up being Wei Wuxian. He had absolutely no memory of anyone, but allowed Jiang Yanli to visit him. He would hear a song (Wangxian) played as a tribute(?) but didn't know who played it.

10. Help!
I lost a Twitter threadfic! I could have sworn I saved it, but either I accidentally deleted it or the author did. And they were about to update it too!
It was about WWX who, during the first Burial Mounds siege, was transformed into a rabbit, and now lives as an immortal bunny. Now it's modern times and he's been rescued by a reincarnated LWJ, who is about to leave for college (veterinary) and doesn't remember anything about his past life. WWX is wary of him at first (he thinks that LWJ was amongst those who led the siege), but he eventually warms up to him and manages to tell him the truth using a computer.
Please help me find this! @blueghost13
FOUND? Here's the link for the Twitter Thread And I just discovered that it got updated 2 days ago when I had expected no more, so thanks for making me check 🤗

11. Hi! I've been searching this fic for so long and couldn't find it. As far as I can remember in this fic Wei Ying survives the siege and he goes away with Ayuan. He invents a silver core type of thing. some kind of mechanical/physical core. And later I think the jins capture him or something. Do you have any idea about this fic?

12. Hi. I love your Fic Finder and Recs and your suggestions have kept me busy reading for almost 2 years now 😍
I was hoping you could help me find a fic I've recently read the summary off. Something about WY accidentally domming LZ Z somehow and turning him into a sub without realizing? And I think WQ pointed it out to him? I believe it was a modern setting, and the summary sounded very light-hearted and entertaining.
I'm not sure if that's enough info to go on, but thanks for your help in advance 🥰 @papperlapapp1

13. I was reading a great fic and then Tumblr updated and ripped out from me when I was only in chapter two! Devastated. Its world building at its finest, you are not folks directly what's happened or happening. WWX is the proprietor of Yiling Garden, a cafe that offers sanctuary. Mo Xuanyu arrives in the first chapter seeking sanctuary from the Inquisition. Lan Wangji arrives, saying he's sanctuary and there for Mo Xuanyu, but WWX assumed he was inquisition at first. They have not seen each other for years. Clearly something happened to separate WWX from everyone he loves except Wen Ning, who works for the shop too, and had been raised from the dead. For unknown reasons, Wen Qing is elsewhere and happy. Wen Yuan is mentioned, but WWX doesn't know what happened to him. There are phones so it's a modern au. And... That's it. Tumblr died right after Lan Wangji asks WWX out for dinner. Help! Thank you VERY much! @lurkdot

15. Hi! Hope you are well. I am desperately searching for a fic I read once but cannot find it anywhere. In this fic WWX survives the siege and leaves with A yuan. He and a yuan live in hiding. wwx also builds a golden core-more like a silver core as he invents a physical core that works the same as a golden core. I can't remember how it finishes but I think Jins capture him and A yuan seeks help of LWJ. Hopefully you can find this!!! Thank You!

I have a fic finder request - I remember it was a harry potter au where wwx has been gone from lwj's life for 13 years. he came back (as an animagus?) as a black rabbit and lwj was a professor at hogwarts. lwj takes care of rabbit wwx and then jgy comes with aurors at the end of the fic to attack hogwarts and lwj fights him. 18. I seem to have read a summary or a review of a wangxian fic and can't recall if it's from this blog so i am putting in a request for help in finding it so in that summary it was mentioned that wangxian had travelled to a village and met a lady on bank of the sea but she was actually a sea monster/creature don't exactly remember what and she consumes hearts of her victim and LWJ becomes her target but he distracts her by tell her his and WWX's story while WWX tries to save LWJ as the body of the victim comes to shore after a week or so don't remember much or more so I hope this suffices also it was most likely to be a multi chapter fic with less than 10 but more than 3 chapters and that it was probably on ao3 . For the next fic finder can you help me with this ao3 fic, Modern Au where wwx gets kicked out of the Jiang family house so he has to stay (I think) in a shed close to his school, and also he has to take extra food from the school cafeteria and that’s how (I think) LQR finds him stealing after class
There was missing food so they also checked the cameras but wwx dodged them also NMJ in this AU is a cop and close to LXC
When they find out about wwx situation he’s taken to the lan house, eventual wangxian
And I don’t remember more
Thank you a lot for the help!🙇‍♀️❤️

mdzs midnight thoughts
lan wangji does not know that his forehead ribbon truly was askew the second time wei wuxian pointed it out, now does he
as i’ve mentioned before, lan wangji also does not know that wei wuxian had alike scars in his back as a punishment for having saved him
lan sizhui and the rest of the juniors have no idea about the story hanguang-jun and senior wei had together. if they saw the dire situation where they screamed at each other and fought, they’d be really shocked, because: seriously, these two men are so goddamn shamelessly affectionate in a daily basis, how could they ever had conflicts?
jiang yanli, jin zixuan, wei wuxian and the wens’ deaths were basically in the same couple of days. none of them actually know that besides wei wuxian. jiang yanli and the wens think they’ve died to save wei wuxian, but in the end it just spared him some more time. he died not long after anyway.
no one despite lan xichen has any idea why lan wangji was so interested in bunnies out of a sudden, right? he just one day appeared with a ton and they just thought, ‘oh yea, it’s hanguang-jun, we’ve got him covered’
if wei wuxian’s mother saw how much her boy tormented lan qiren and the lan clan in general, from what her reputation precedes, she’d possibly smile proudly
everyone still thinks wei wuxian was the preferred ‘son’ instead of jiang cheng. they think he’s got a privileged childhood for living with the jiangs being treated not as a servant, but as part of the family! they dont know everything he’s been through in that goddamn fucking environment!!
perhaps meng yao would’ve been more empathic towards wei wuxian if he actually got to know his tragic backstory in the streets and with the jiangs. maybe if he got to know him better, before the sunshot campaign events. they were treated unfairly in resembling points, weren’t they, after all?
nie huaisang and wen qing would be like brother and sister if they were to know each other. they never did. in fact, wen qing wasn’t spoken about or to enough.
mentioning the public eye again, for them it’s like wei wuxian was the dishonest and devilish son of the two most famous, righteous rogue cultivators of their age. and considering madam lan’s past actions, lan wangji is the son of a murderer. historically ironic.
wei wuxian is part of jin ling’s family three times. one as himself (martial uncle), second as being in the body of mo xuanyu (biologically an uncle) and third as being the husband of lan wangji, lan xichen’s brother, who’s sworn brother with his uncle (a very distant relative, but a relative likewise, especially since being sworn brothers is such an intimate thing there).
the lan disciples simply saw hanguang-jun, the epitome of righteousness and the king of blank expressions, pick a random gay demonic cultivator one day and let him tag along on his adventures only for them to get married later because, yeah, that’s the yiling patriarch, in fact, why nobody told me my idol had a situationship with the biggest badass villain in history??
from somewhere within, mo xuanyu is oddly satisfied for seeing wei wuxian getting a proper revenge for him and a bunch of other stuff, beyond having very gay sex with the hanguang-jun — can you imagine?! he must think that at least his body served for a good cause!!!

Happy birthday
Modern the untamed? The one where Wei wuxian is friends first with Lan Xichen
a continuation of 1
Sophomore year the administration had tried to exert some type of control over them by putting the three of them all in different lunch periods.
That had resulted in two of them cutting a class every single day so they could all have lunch together. Xichen either missed study hall or band, neither of which required his attendance and so his uncle was only moderately apocalyptic about him missing, and the only person Mingjue had to answer to was his cousin, who frankly didn’t give a shit, so skipping class was easy for him too. Wei Wuxian had the worst of it, because while he could ace statistics and chemistry in his sleep, Aunt Yu took every excuse possible to punish him and Uncle Jiang could only redirect her so many times.
Both Xichen and Mingjue had just offered to come to his lunch permanently, but that wasn’t fair and it wasn’t like Lan Qiren wasn’t punishing Xichen, he just wasn’t being as vindictive about it. So they took turns.
Not having lunch together wasn’t an option because that meant letting the administration win and that was unacceptable. The next semester they’d put them all in the same lunch, accepting that they actually caused less trouble that way, and had done so ever since, so it was a battle well won.
“Do you think this is a bribe?” Wei Wuxian asks as they sit at their customary table under the oak tree. They’d gotten into two physical fights and one prank war to claim it freshman year from the seniors, which may or may not be when the rumors about them first started. “Putting us in the same lunch as our brothers.”
“It’s probably just saving them a headache,” Xichen answers, taking out his healthy lunch that he brought from home. Wei Wuxian snags it to start distributing the rice and pickled vegetables between him and Mingjue’s plate and Mingjue leans over to dumb the cheese sticks and questionable meat loaf from their plates onto Xichen’s.
Lan Qiren is convinced that school lunches are filled with plastic and poison and pesticides. Which is probably accurate, but it still tastes better than pickled vegetables. Most days.
“Someone warned me against sitting here,” Nie Huaisang complains as he slams is tray down. “Which means now I’m required to have lunch with you in order to gain some extremely dubious street cred.”
“I’m only here because Nie Huaisang is,” Jiang Cheng says, even though he sits across from Wei Wuxian at the opposite end of the table. “Don’t get used to it.”
Wen Qing has this lunch period too, but she always spends it in the lab. Maybe he can entice her to eat lunch sometimes, because Jiang Cheng will definitely sit with them then.
“Hello,” Xichen’s extremely hot brother says as he sits down. He has an identical lunch box to Xichen’s, except he apparently eats all of his himself. That’s deranged. He’s lucky he’s so beautiful because it makes up for the pressed khakis and awful food choices.
It’s a tragedy that A-jie has the lunch after them, especially because it’s the same one that the Jin degenerates have. Wen Ning has that one too, but he’s not much protection.
“Can we beat up Jin Zixuan?” he asks.
“Yes,” Jiang Cheng, Mingjue, and Nie Huaisang all say at once.
Xichen sighs. “Can we at least have a good reason first?”
Very hot brother – his name is Lan Wangji, and Wei Wuxian should probably start using it – looks at them all with faint disapproval.
That’s hot too, actually.

1. things you said at 3am
Two days after Wei Wuxian died, Jiang Cheng woke from a dream of the dirty Wen child who clung to his leg. Heart racing, skin clammy, he flew alone to the Burial Mounds and scoured the remains, all for nothing. And who could he ask? So the warmth of a little body haunted him on the nights he rocked Jin Ling.
Until a small Lan with a Gusu-softened Qishan accent tripped and fell into him during one of his visits to Lan Qiren, apologizing so desperately that Jiang Cheng couldn't help but focus on him. A sweet, anxious expression modifying Wen clan features. The earnest need to ensure all adults stayed calm barely obscured by Lan-trained restraint.
Just like a-jie, Jiang Cheng thought.
"Are you treated well?" Jiang Cheng asked, interrupting the boy. What was his name?
The little Lan blinked and nodded, going mute from Jiang Cheng's gruff voice.
Jiang Cheng's eyes stung, and he turned his face away. "Be careful."
At least Nie Mingjue was dead. In time, the boy's accent would fade, and the danger would pass. Perhaps his mother's features would develop in time, too, obscuring his resemblance to a skull mounted outside of Bujing Shi.
The nightmares continued anyway.
Two days after Jin Guangyao died, Jiang Cheng woke from a dream of starry black eyes. It was impossible, and yet Lan Sizhui lived and Wen Ning persisted. After another frantic flight, this time to Jinlin Tai, Jiang Cheng found himself in front of a groggy Jin Ling.
"There was a doctor," Jiang Cheng said.
Jin Ling blinked at him. "Okay."
"She might be alive," he gestured at the walls, "somewhere hidden."
Jin Ling was a good boy, so he only complained the necessary amount before dressing and organizing the search. Jiang Cheng held little hope--Jin Guangyao's memory was exceptional, so he had left few notes. Still, servants see more than most, and so Jiang Cheng carefully questioned people until they had several possibilities.
With Jin Ling and a small group of Jin cultivators, they searched the areas of Jinlin Tai that seemed most suspect. Most inspections led to nothing, the result of hindsight casting shadows over Jin Guangyao's every movement. Two ended with Jiang Cheng standing aside as Jin Ling beheld his grandfather's and shushu's legacies.
One, though. One led to a small, dark apartment that locked from the outside.
It was tidy. The first room was filled with shelves and a table. Jiang Cheng picked up the ink stick, rubbing his thumb against it. High quality. Ink he couldn't have afforded for the first seven years after the war.
Like everything else, it was covered in dust.
"Jiujiu," Jin Ling said, and then stopped.
Jiang Cheng ignored him, using a light talisman to check the books and scrolls. Decisive, bold strokes filled many. The writer's thoughts had flowed easily; her brush had not faltered.
"Jiujiu, I'm sorry."
Jiang Cheng shut the book in time for his tears to fall on the cover.
He'd thought she died the same day as Jiang Yanli, as Wei Wuxian. He'd thought Jin Guangshan had burned her with the rest. He had dreamed about it, about begging her to let him save her as she walked with Wen Ning to her death. Not once in sixteen years had she ever turned to him.
This, though.
"Do you want me to check the other room?"
"No," Jiang Cheng said.
A bed. A chest with Wen red robes. A pair of slippers.
Jiang Cheng knelt in the dust and clung to the robes.
"Who was she?"
My zhiji, Jiang Cheng thought, and said nothing.

Hello it's last anon thank you for letting me give a prompt
So I really liked your pairing of LQR/WRH/Lao Nie and after seeing wwx's parents in the last episode of the donghua it got me thinking, How about WRH/WCZ/CSSR? WRH maybe saves them in yiling and they end up hitting it off (WRH might do it in the beginning just spite jfm by stealing his former best friend and crush) and the Wei family settles in nightless city, wwx grows up with the Wen heirs and wen Qing and wen Ning and that affects the events of Canon
(I wouldn't mind smut tbh if you want to include it, they're all hotties lol)
Thank you so much for letting me send a prompt 🙏😭❤️

“I don’t suppose you can help with this,” Wen Ruohan said to Lan Qiren, who had the unmitigated gall to look amused at him, as if he’d brought this disaster down on his own head or something like that. “Aren’t you supposed to be friends with that awful -”
“Cangse Sanren and I are indeed good friends,” Lan Qiren said peaceably and tonelessly, possibly just because he was trying to annoy Wen Ruohan to death. “I am therefore very familiar with the fact that there is absolutely nothing I can do to stop her from proceeding precisely as she wishes.”
That was not what Wen Ruohan wanted to hear.
“You’re her friend,” he said, deciding to focus on the important part. “Take her away.”
“You’re the sect leader of the Nightless City,” Lan Qiren rebutted. “Order her to leave.”
Wen Ruohan couldn’t do that.
Well, he could. By all rights, he ought to have done it a month ago, when Cangse Sanren had first marched into the Fire Palace and said, “Oh, this will work perfectly! I love it, you’re so thoughtful!” and started rearranging the entire place into some sort of workshop for herself, possibly involving grain storage. He’d meant to, but he’d been a bit distracted at the time – Wei Changze had wanted to know what all the machines did, and he’d had an endless number of clever ideas on how some of them could be repurposed for things other than torture, some of which had been really very intriguing.
Anyway, it wasn’t as if Wen Ruohan had time to attend torture sessions any more, not with three loudly yelling children running around all the time. Wei Wuxian might be the youngest of the lot, with both Wen Xu and Wen Chao as his elders, but he’d managed in a very short amount of time to make himself the undoubted leader of the pack and spoiled beloved youngest all at the same time. There had even been avid discussions about how they would need to bring other children over to visit in order to better socialize the children. He’d already summoned some cousins over, Wen Qing and Wen Ning, which meant that soon there would be even more children…
It was a headache, really.
Absolutely.
Wei Changze and Cangse Sanren were driving him up the wall.
They were also regular visitors in his bed, something that would very likely rapidly stop being the case if he actually kicked them out of the Nightless City.
“This one’s on you, Hanhan,” Lao Nie put in, grinning wildly at him. Now there was one that was completely unmoved by the news of Wen Ruohan’s new relationship – everyone else had reacted, whether by Jiang Fengmian’s profound embarrassment, raging jealousy, and quiet fury, Jin Guangshan very obviously trying to calculate some way of using this to his advantage, and Lan Qiren immediately going over to question his friends’ sanity – and that was pretty annoying in its own way. After all, Wen Ruohan had really only invited the two rogue cultivators into his bed in the first place as a matter of spite, a way of excising his rage when he’d heard the rumors about Lao Nie potentially taking on a third wife.
He hadn’t expected them to stay.
He hadn’t expected to want them to stay.
Which he didn’t! They were a mess, each one worse than the next – Cangse Sanren was barely human most days, like some sort of feral demonic beast that had accidentally achieved human form and continuously forgot (thanks to her prodigiously bad memory) that she was supposed to be pretending to be normal, and Wei Changze was remarkably similar to Lao Nie in the sense that he’d never taken anything seriously in his life, except for the fact that his humor was lighthearted and unleavened by the hints of trauma and tragedy that lurked behind Lao Nie’s unbridled hedonism. There wasn’t anything that he wouldn’t let slide off his shoulders, forgetting a beating as soon as it was over…Wei Changze might be a lot less vicious than Lao Nie was, but he was reckless to the extreme, in a way that made absolutely no sense. Wasn’t he supposed to be a servant? What was he doing rushing out into the field with a sword and smile and absolutely no advance planning whatsoever? Even Lao Nie wouldn’t do that!
Anyway, they were a handful.
They were maddening.
They were the most interesting thing that had happened to Wen Ruohan in years.
“Your input is not required,” Wen Ruohan informed Lao Nie, who shrugged expansively. “Unless you have something constructive to add.”
“No, no, nothing constructive, you know me, I’m not built for that…but I’m glad that you’re happy.”
Wen Ruohan stopped where he was.
“I’m not right for you,” Lao Nie said, and even though he was still smiling, same as always, there was something sharp in his eyes – the same sharpness that had caught Wen Ruohan’s interest in the first place, like a beautiful dagger that you longed to touch even though you knew its biting edge might cut. “You know, I know, even Qiren knows it…you’re happy now, and that’s good. That’s all I wanted to say.”
Wen Ruohan wanted to say something.
Preferably something cutting, something about how it was too late for Lao Nie to regret – except he didn’t think Lao Nie did regret, because Lao Nie did not live a life of regret. Lao Nie had enjoyed their time together, had been as sincere and true as he was made to be and no further. But, and maybe it was because he’d never expected to keep Wen Ruohan for very long in the first place, he’d felt little sorrow at it ending, instead feeling nothing but joy on Wen Ruohan’s behalf at seeing him happy, even if it was with another.
Wen Ruohan didn’t understand that. He’d always loved too fiercely, too well; he’d always yearned to keep that which he cared for close to him, nearby, somewhere he could protect them and keep them.
Even Lao Nie…Wen Ruohan had been enticed by Lao Nie’s ruthlessness, his bloodthirstiness, his Nie sect temper tempered with a nasty sort of cunning that had made him remarkably successful at expanding his sect’s reach in the north, and he’d been flattered at how persistent the other man was in pursuing him. It was only later, when he’d gotten used to having him around, that he had started to feel jealous…
“They’ll be good for you,” Lao Nie said. His eye twinkled. “You could use a bit of chaos in your life.”
Wen Ruohan shook his head. “I’m trying to get rid of them,” he protested, but even he didn’t believe what he was saying. “They’re a menace. Especially Cangse Sanren – do you know that she’s literally doomed? I swear, I spend all my trying keeping her from getting herself killed…”
“Don’t you enjoy defying the heavens?” Lan Qiren asked, rolling his eyes as if Wen Ruohan were missing something obvious. “I would have thought that someone carting around a heaven-sent calamity would be a perk for someone like you.”
…it rather was, wasn’t it?
“Whatever. Fine. Leave it, I’ll figure it out myself,” Wen Ruohan grumbled, then turned his narrowed eyes on the two of them. “Now for something you can help with: My children need more socialization or else they’ll genuinely think Wei Wuxian is a good example of other children. Sect Leader Lan – you’re a teacher, aren’t you…?”
“Well, yes. But –”
“What a wonderful idea!” Lao Nie clapped his hands together. “I can send my two boys to Qiren to teach, too! And we can definitely bully Fengmian and Guangshan into sending theirs. It’ll be…oh, I don’t know. A regular summer excursion!”
“In my sect?” Lan Qiren asked, arching his eyebrows. “Why me?”
“Because you’re a teacher, of course. Anyway, are you saying you don’t want Cangse Sanren to crash at your place for a few months..?”
“She’s not going anywhere,” Wen Ruohan said at once. When both of them smirked at him, he scowled. “Even if I wanted her too, she’s not. It was a statement of fact, nothing more.”
“Then perhaps we should all come visit the Nightless City instead,” Lao Nie said. “It could be like a miniature discussion conference, except limited to the Great Sects – we could go night-hunting and such while Qiren teaches the children.”
Was Lao Nie proposing an orgy? He’d better not be proposing an orgy, not if he genuinely intended to invite Jiang Fengmian and his wife or Jin Guangshan and his to attend…
“Of course, if it’s focused on the children, maybe the adults aren’t entirely necessary to invite – well, except for you, as the host, Qiren as the teacher, and me as the person who came up with the idea…”
Lao Nie was definitely proposing an orgy.
“…I’ll see what Cangse Sanren and Wei Changze have to say about it,” Wen Ruohan allowed. But only because he thought that it was something they would very much like, and he’d been completely out of ideas on what he could get a couple as notoriously disinterested in material goods as a courting gift – he hated not being capable, that’s all it was. There was no other reason than that! “We’ll see.”
“Did I agree to this?” Lan Qiren asked, frowning. “When did I agree to this –”
“You can’t say no,” Wen Ruohan said. “I’ll set Cangse Sanren on you if you do.”
“…I see that I’ve agreed to this.”
Lao Nie laughed, Lan Qiren sighed, and Wen Ruohan…
Wen Ruohan resigned himself to keeping Cangse Sanren and Wei Changze around a little longer.
Just a little.

Lan-Furen's Case and Lan Zhan
A couple of days ago I came across an excellent meta on Lan Xichen over how by not "wanting to know" who is in the right and who is in the wrong, he is able to maintain a schrodinger's cat syndrome and assume the best of everyone. I thought more about what that then meant for Lan Wangji who visited his mother publicly every month.
Lan Wangji is an extremely righteous character. He has a temper against those that he deems as unrighteous. He can absolutely not take it if someone is using their privilege to oppress others; or if, someone is killing innocents for baseless, useless reasons.
Someone like Lan Wangji would not continue loving a person even if they act for their own gains, petty revenge or selfishly. Simply stating, he can't continue loving a person who has left the road of righteousness.
In his mother's case, it doesn't seem as if bigger forces (such as sect politics) were involved; but it was something personal. We do not know what that something was, thus we cannot judge. Thus, he cannot judge.
I believe his coming over to the Gentian House every month shows perhaps the most important characteristic of his:
Lan WangJi slowly shook his head, “One should not comment without understanding the whole picture.”
I find Lan Wangji and Nie Mingjue's insistence upon their sense of justice similar. Even in dire situations, where it seems stupid to act upon your sense of justice, when everyone around you is acting unjustly, they will insist - Lan Wangji stuck in a cave, injured, protecting someone who is being harassed by those who hold power, hunted down by enemies who are much higher on the social ladder, own much more money, and are many in numbers, despite knowing, inevitably it may cause his own demise and fall. Yet, he doesn't care about that. This happens twice. That's his sense of righteousness and justice. Similarly, Nie Mingjue is ready to kill himself as punishment for killing someone who saved him, yet he must kill Guangyao for killing his clansmen and stuff (so much killing with this guy.)
But Lan Wangji is better, as his justice is embedded with empathy, patience and true efforts to understand the entire story before placing his judgement. He's not free from making false judgements, and societal judgement does affect him.
But, he's not holding to any particular judgement to the ends of his life. He is willing to accept new facts and reform his opinion, reframe his thoughts. He's like that guy on twitter who tweeted something tone-deaf in 2012, but is completely against that in 2023, as now he has new information.
So, Lan Wangji doesn't incriminate people. He doesn't hold personal grudges. He is prone to hatred, jealousy and the stuff - that is what makes him human. But he rarely acts upon it, preferring to remove himself from the situation.
He is such a person.
So, it cannot be known whether the glass was filled and then emptied, or whether it was empty and then it was filled; what I mean is we can't judge from just a half-full/half-empty glass of what the context was; similarly, we can't judge from just the other's actions and situations alone of what the intention, purpose, reasoning, etc was. We can't judge evil or bad that easily, and with all those who were involved in Madam Lan's case - all their souls dispersed, and Lan Qiren being Lan Qiren, Lan Wangji can only judge on what he knows.
What he knows is that his mother was a lovely woman and he was happy to see her; so he visits her still. He is not accepting her actions, or incriminating them, as she is not there to defend herself or to accuse others. He doesn't know if the clan was wrong or if his mother was. I believe, with Lan Wangji's character, that he's strong enough to face the actions of those who he loves.
It’d be inconvenient for him to be more specific, such as Lan XiChen or Lan QiRen.
Lan WangJi answered assuredly, “No.”
Wei WuXian was quite confident in Lan WangJi’s answer. To him, Lan WangJi wasn’t the kind of person who’d hide or run away from the truth. If he denied it, that meant it must have been wrong. He didn’t like to lie, either. In Wei WuXian’s opinion, if someone asked Lan WangJi to lie, he’d rather silence himself and not talk at all. Thus, Wei WuXian immediately excluded the possibility of the gravedigger being these two.
So, this. If Lan Wangji felt any of Wei Wuxian's actions were uncalled for, or unrighteous and cruel, he wouldn't have loved him. But, even by the logic of Great Grudges, Wei Wuxian had every right to kill the Wens (the SSC ones).
But that's beyond the point. The point is that Lan Wangji is stuck in a situation where he can't cast judgment, but still, his actions reflect what he knows and has gathered first-hand; what his actions show is pure love, patience, a strong, but sensitive heart waiting for another chance to understand the truth, yet knowing and accepting that it will never come, and being at peace with that.

When Lan Qiren extends an invitation to lunch, Wei Ying is admittedly very suspicious. Lan Qiren’s never made any effort to hide his dislike for his youngest nephew's partner of choice. The last time they came face to face, he’d not just ignored Wei Ying, but openly spoken about setting Lan Zhan up with a family friend. So a sudden change of heart seems highly unlikely.
“You do not have to accept the invite. He hasn’t given you any reason to want to see him,” Lan Zhan says when Wei Ying tells him about the strangely amicable text messages he’s received from his uncle.
But he sees the glimmer of hope in Lan Zhan’s eyes. He knows how much it hurts him to see his family at odds with Wei Ying. He didn’t even get to celebrate the new year with them this year because he refused to go if Wei Ying was not invited, despite Wei Ying repeatedly telling him it was okay.
So the least Wei Ying can do is try his best to fix things for Lan Zhan’s sake. Especially if Lan Qiren is extending an olive branch.
He spends an embarrassing amount of time getting ready, not wanting to give Lan Qiren more reason to dislike him. He irons his clothes, takes out his piercings, removes his nail varnish and ties his hair up as neat as he can manage. It’s a good thing Lan Zhan has already left for work, or he’d look at Wei Ying sadly and tell him not to change himself for anyone.
The restaurant Lan Qiren has picked is fancy to say the least. Wei Ying feels astoundingly out of place, but manages to walk in with his head held high. He’s arrived exactly on time but Lan Qiren is already seated at the table.
Wei Ying greets him and takes a seat. He thinks he sees Lan Qiren nod ever so slightly in response. It’s one step above being completely ignored like last time, so they’re off to a good start he tells himself.
The restaurant is not very busy at this time. Only faint music and the clinking of cutlery can be heard. The silence stretches between them. Wei Ying clears his throat. “How have you been, Uncle?” Lan Qiren’s eye twitches. “We haven’t seen each other for a while.”
“With reason.” Lan Qiren doesn’t look at him as he speaks, instead glancing around the restaurant like he’s observing the decor.
Wei Ying tries not to falter. “Thank you for inviting me to lunch, Uncle. I wasn’t expecting it at all, but I’m glad you did.”
“Yes, I suppose it’s not every day someone like you gets to dine at an establishment like this.”
“I’ve come here before, without Lan Zhan.” Wei Ying’s face is beginning to ache with the smile he keeps plastered on. “You forget I grew up with the Jiangs.”
“Grew up with, yes.” Lan Qiren finally looks at him. “But you are not one of them.”
“No, I’m not. I’m your former classmate’s son, if you recall.” Wei Ying tries his very best to remain polite. For Lan Zhan’s sake. “What I meant was that it hurts me to see Lan Zhan unhappy. I’m sure it upsets you too. He is your nephew after all.”
“What upsets me is his inability to discern good from bad. He continues to disappoint me.” Lan Qiren rudely waves away the waiter that approaches their table. “He can’t see that his family has his best interests in mind, not duplicitous outsiders.”
“Did you invite me here to insult me, Uncle?” Wei Ying laughs. “You could have done that over the phone. It would’ve saved you the trip. I know your knees have been giving you trouble recently.”
Lan Qiren scowls. “I called you here to make you an offer.”
“An offer?”
“Ah, that’s piqued your interest, has it?” Lan Qiren strokes his goatee smugly. “As expected.”
Wei Ying is so confused. “I really don’t understand what you’re saying, Uncle.”
“I am not your uncle,” Lan Qiren erupts. “Drop the act, Lan Zhan is not here to see.” He pulls out a pen and paper from his pocket and scribbles something down. “Here.” He slides the paper across the table. “Now leave my nephew.”
Bewildered, Wei Ying looks down at the paper. And then he sees what it really is — a cheque, in Wei Ying’s name. “Huh?”
“Take this money and leave my nephew,” Lan Qiren says calmly.
“What?!”
“Stop playing dumb. This is what you’re really after, right? So take it!” He roughly pushes the cheque the rest of the way. “It’s more than you could ever dream of. Take it and get out of my nephew’s life!”
Perhaps for the first time in his life, Wei Ying is at a complete loss for words. He feels like he’s been teleported into one of those horrible soap operas Madam Yu likes to watch, and Lan Qiren is the evil, scheming mother-in-law.
“No fucking way,” he blurts.
Lan Qiren goes purple with rage. “You insolent—!” But he’s interrupted by his phone ringing.
It looks like the call is important. “Wait here,” he instructs Wei Ying, still looking furious, and then walks off with his phone to his ear. But not before pocketing the cheque first.
Wei Ying can’t believe this is happening. He scrambles to get his own phone out and quickly calls Lan Zhan, keeping an eye out for Lan Qiren.
Despite being at work, Lan Zhan picks up on the second ring. “Wei Ying?”
“Lan Zhan, you’ll never fucking believe this!” he whisper-screams down the phone.
“Is everything okay?” Lan Zhan sounds worried. “Has Uncle done something?”
“No, no. Good news,” Wei Ying reassures him. “He hasn’t tried to run me over or anything this time.”
“This time?” Ah shit. Wei Ying wasn’t supposed to mention that incident to Lan Zhan. “And what is the bad news?”
“Well…” He grimaces even though Lan Zhan can’t see him. “He’s just offered me money to leave you.”
“What?” The disbelief in Lan Zhan’s voice is loud and clear.
“Exactly! It’s like something out of a cheesy K-drama!” In fact Wei Ying’s pretty sure he’s seen this exact scene in a show before. Only difference is Lan Qiren isn’t wearing fur and pearls and a fancy updo. “I don’t know whether to laugh or be angry. Your uncle’s gone insane!”
There’s a long moment of silence on the other end of the line. And then Lan Zhan asks, “How much did he offer?”
“Lan Zhan!” Wei Ying guffaws. “That’s your main concern? How much? I don’t know, a completely crazy amount. There were so many zeroes on the cheque I lost count.”
“You should take the money.”
“What.” Wei Ying’s heart plummets. Surely not…
“Take the money and stay with me regardless,” Lan Zhan tells him. “He won’t be able to do anything about it.”
“Lan Zhan!” Relief washes over Wei Ying. “Are you telling me to scam your own uncle?”
“Mn. Why not.”
“I love you,” Wei Ying laughs. “I love you so much, Lan Zhan. I hope you know that.” Then he spots Lan Qiren heading back over. “Okay, I have to go now. Talk to you later. Love you, muah!” He blows a kiss through the phone and then rushes to put it away before Lan Qiren sees.
The man takes his seat at the table once again. “You're still here. Well, of course you are.” He takes the cheque out of his pocket and puts it back onto the table, looking smug. “You wouldn’t leave without this.”
Wei Ying looks down at the cheque, unable to withhold his disdain. “This is all you think your beloved nephew is worth?”
Lan Qiren scoffs. “So you want more? I should have known. Name your price. Whatever it takes to be rid of you for good.”
“I will not leave Lan Zhan. Ever.” Wei Ying emphasises each individual word. “I love him.”
“Name your price, boy,” Lan Qiren repeats, getting angrier. “He won’t miss you. I’ll have a hundred eligible young men lined up for him by the end of the week. Men of his calibre, not money hungry vermin like you.”
“Money hungry,” Wei Ying laughs. “But I don’t want your money, Uncle. Not even if you double it, or triple it, or give me everything you own. All I want is Lan Zhan. All I’ve ever wanted is Lan Zhan.”
“And you really expect me to believe that him being the heir to Lan Enterprise has nothing to do with it?” Lan Qiren sneers.
“Nothing at all.” Wei Ying shrugs. “I’ve loved him since we were children. I loved him when he didn’t have a penny to his name after you cut him off for being gay. And I’ll love him till my dying breath, and in every lifetime thereafter.”
“Oh, cut the nonsense!” Lan Qiren’s fists are clenched into the tablecloth. “Do you know how easy it’ll be for me to ruin your life? To destroy everything you care about? I will make your life a living hell!” He bangs his fists against the table, making the plates rattle and the water in his glass splash over. “So if you have an ounce of sense you’ll take the money now and leave peacefully. This is your last chance.”
Wei Ying considers the man carefully. Then he picks up the cheque. He reads it properly this time and realises the figure is even bigger than he’d originally thought. More money than he’ll ever see in his lifetime.
“I think,” he says, and smiles up at Lan Qiren, “You should stuff your cheque, Uncle,” and rips it up into small pieces, throwing them up in the air.
As he walks out of the restaurant he hears the sound of cutlery hitting the ground. The ever composed Lan Qiren publicly losing his cool like this. How embarrassing, Wei Ying thinks, giggling to himself. Lan Zhan is going to be so amused when he hears about it.

Wangji's Friend: Trouble
Tumblr media
Summary: Just Wangji saving your arse from Qiren when you cause trouble. Ft. Wei Ying and the Gang.
A/n: This idea randomly popped up.
_____________________________________
You walked into the Library Pavillion to see your childhood best friend in meditation. A smirk grew on your face as you hovered in front of him "Lan Zhan!" "Zhan Zhan" "Wanji" "Xiao Wanji" (little Wanji) you whispered.
When he didn't make any moves, not even his pupils are moving beneath his eye lead. So you picked up the brush from the ink pot and put it to use, yes you drew whiskers on his cheeks. You smiled to yourself and put it down. He looked kinda cute you thought and smiled to yourself. You walked away skipping as you met Nie Huisang on the way and went to enjoy the rest of the day beside the pond.
You were walking around the pond when you felt the hair on your neck stand and as expected, Wangji suddenly appeared holding your hand and twisting it the moment you tried to run. "Ah ah Lan Zhan, Brawling is not allowed in Gusu!" You said as Nie Huisang hid behind a nearby stone. Almost instantly Wei Wuxian walked in behind and started coaxing him "Aye Lan Zhan she's a Gunia what are you-" he looked at hin with a sharp look and then said "Not brawling" and started walking off with you.
He was angry, because Lan Qiren had almost walked in on him while he was wiping his cheeks and when asked he said it accidentally happened. "4 hours, waterfall" Lan Zhan told you and you started whining "why?! 4 hours!! Isn't it too long!! Lan Zhan~!". He made sure you meditated for 4 hours under the waterfall as he sat on the bank playing a new tune he practiced on his guqin.
_____________________________________
Wei Ying were exceptionally good artists. So you two decided on a prank. You know you would get punished but Qiren's probable expression would be worth it. He was drawing an Old rat (a/n: like Shifu from Kung fu Panda) and slowly passed it to Huisang who passed it to you. As Qiren passed from beside you you used your special flying talisman to attach the drawing on his back. A few of the students, even Jiang Cheng giggled earning a glare from Lan Zhan who immediately pulled the talisman and sketch away and crumbled it, silently.
He was literally glaring daggers at you and Wei Ying and you thought you were done for but strangely the rest of the day went quiet. Did Wangji not report you two?

💠A Shared Hunger
By:BenevolentErrancy
Summary:
The first time it happened, Lan Zhan was six and walking along the covered balconies of the Cloud Recesses when, quite suddenly, he was not.
It happened between one blink at the next, hitting him with such a violent wave of disorientation it was unlike anything he had ever experienced. His foot was raised but it never came down on the familiar wood of the balcony, instead he found himself standing on a foreign street, ankle deep in slush and starving.
Chapter:7/8
Words:26,255
Status:ongoing
“She’s going to hurt him,” Lan Zhan forced out between hitching breaths. “Please, xiongzhang, we have to save him, please.” “We’ll find him, Lan Zhan, it’ll be alright,” his brother whispered into his hair. “We’ll find him.” Not if he died. What would happen if he died? Lan Zhan would never get to see through his eyes again. He would never ever get to see what his real face looked like. Lan Zhan cried like he hadn’t in years, until he finally felt wrung out and the courtyard outside the dining hall was completely empty of people.
~
He had raged at his uncle that night. It had been silent, but his mouth, his body, the entire house had been thick with it. His uncle was able to fix everything, and the fact that he couldn’t simply take Lan Zhan’s hand and lead him to his soulmate was unforgivable to the child. His uncle had tugged at his beard and clucked sympathetically but it had just made Lan Zhan remember the chickens and the woman and grow all the angrier. Why was no one helping his soulmate ? Even if Uncle didn’t know where he was, even if Lan Zhan didn’t know where he was, even if they couldn’t help him yet (they would, they would, his uncle had promised him gently even while Lan Zhan had sat stiff and furious on his lap) why was no one else helping him? The streets of that town were crowded with people, why did no one see? Why did no one care?
~~
He should mind. He wasn’t a baby. He wasn’t weak. He was advancing quicker than anyone else his age. He was second heir to the Lan clan. But his soulmate had been attacked by dogs and all Lan Zhan had been able to do was watch and at this moment he didn’t feel strong or skilled or brave. He had never been more scared in his whole life. All he could imagine was the sealed doors of the Gentian House. -
His soulmate was alive. The next day Lan Zhan went to his lessons and threw himself into them with a fervour that startled his teachers. His soulmate had survived. His soulmate was brave and strong and unstoppable. Lan Zhan would have to work hard to be worthy of him. He would have to work to ensure no dog, no nothing , ever, ever hurt him ever again.
~
His soulmate fell heavily, all the wind knocked out of him as he hit the ground with a thump. “I told you it was no good. Do it properly next time, idiot,” the boy sneered. Lan Zhan woke to his own body and found his jaw clenched. Hate, he decided, would not suffice for the Jiang boy. Perhaps next time Uncle went to Yunmeng he would insist on going to Lotus Pier instead of continuing his hunt through the towns. He would find this boy, beat him soundly with proper martial forms, and then make him tell him where he went when he saw his soulmate.
~
Except it wasn’t. Not quite. Because it was Lan Zhan , who was quietly diligent and brilliant in his work. Who loved his soulmate more than many grown men had ever loved anything in their entire lives. Who would pour his everything into truly and entirely loving someone as much as he could. Lan Zhan would do it, Lan Qiren realised with mounting horror. He would teach himself to fly years before any disciple could possibly be expected to. He would leave during a snowstorm, on a journey with which he knew his much older brother struggled. He would do all that, to try to save a child he had never met but knew was in pain somewhere. And the gods alone knew what would become of a child like that, still so young, on a sword that had no alignment to him, in weather that wasn’t fit for even a grown cultivator to be out in. “We have to widen the search,” Lan Qiren heard himself saying.
The fanfic is really cute and sad at the same time, Lan Zhan is so stubborn he really left his sect to find his soulmate even though he is a child

Modern fem wangxian au where lwj grew up in a family that discourages makeup save for like a lil bit of mascara bc they think lots of makeup is a sign of like low class or smthn dumb and wwx is a makeup artist who loves a dramatic full face who practices on lwj
Wwx is a beauty vlogger who asks her best bud lwj to model (bc lwj is GORGEOUS and also wwx wants an excuse to put her hands on lwj's face) and lwj is WHIPPED so she agrees but finds that she actually really likes the dramatic looks wwx does on her??
but Lan Qiren disapproves so they have to make their sessions secret. And lwj comes to find an appreciation for makeup as an art form and when some dudes come after wwx for being "fake" or smthn after she goes makeup free for a day lwj just EVISCERATES them and wwx is so in love
And when the two finally kiss for the first time they smear lipstick all over each other and they mess up each other's hair and they both look like a DISASTER but they both think the other has never looked as beautiful as they do in that moment

Part of Dark Lan Zhan Week
Summary: — about the deal that I’m making? Lan Wangji goes back in time to save Wei Wuxian. This changes everything. Day 4: Righteousness | Time Travel Kay's comments: This story is for all fans of Dark Lan Wangji, who love to see him do whatever is needed to ensure that Wei Ying lives a happy and comfortable life. In this story, he travels back in time and makes the Lan Sect save little A-Ying from the streets, with Lan Qiren promptly adopting the boy. Of course, this leads to conflict with the Jiang Sect. At the same time, Lan Wangji also makes sure his sick mother receives help from medical prodify Wen Qing. Major divergences follow! The entire story is told through beautifully-formatted letters, very creative! Excerpt: I didn’t even know A-Zhan was aware of A-Niang’s sickness. I say this, but really I should not doubt his perspicacity. He may be young, but he is much smarter than he looks. It sometimes feels as if my brother were an entirely different person. Some days it seems as if he is growing so fast — much too fast for my liking. I feel powerless in such moments, as if no matter what I do I will never be able to protect him from the world. What does it say of me and my ability to be a good brother? But then A-Ying came to the sect and I do realize that I have been thinking about it too much once more. With A-Ying here, I have nothing to worry about. A-Zhan is as he has always been, but he acts more like his age now, and has not left A-Ying’s side since they met.
canon divergence, time travel, time travel fix-it, somebody lives/not everybody dies, madam lan lives, epistolary, letters, minor character death, dark lan wangji, dark lan zhan week, wei wuxian is a lan, bad parents jiang fengmian and yu ziyuan, good uncle lan qiren, no sunshot campaign

Fic Finder
Feb 1st
~*~
1. Hey! Thank you so much for your hardwork!
So I've been looking for this fic for days now, I just cant find it. I can't remember if Wwx is the omega but its an abo fic where wwx had 4 children i think. And he thinks theyre all dead but theyre not. He definitely had 2 daughters? Or was it one? But basically there was this scene where they all reunited in the jingshi and they were crying.
Can somebody help me find this fic please? THANK YOU :") @losing-victor
FOUND! I think the fic for #1 of the most recent Fic Finder, where WWX has kids and they reunite in the Jingshi, may be Like The Butterfly by Setari (T, 18k, wangxian, WIP, Fix-It, Not Everyone Dies AU, Next Generation, Emotional Hurt/Comfort, Grief/Mourning, Implied/Referenced Character Death, Unresolved Emotional Tension) on AO3. It’s part of a series ‘The Wei Family’, with three stories total.
~*~
2. Hello all! I am looking for a fic where Wei Wuxian is blind and the Jiang he grew up with know but the Lans don’t know until the lectures when Lan Qiren yells at Wuxian for taking sloppy notes and he is like “I can’t see, how can I tell if my writing is sloppy?” It is not “Close Your Eyes, Feel My Heartbeat” by ThatDesiGirl, I just reread it to check. Any guesses? Thank you!
FOUND? The Darkness Before Dawn by PsycheStellata707 (M, 113k, WIP, WangXian, Angst with a Happy Ending, Time Travel Fix-It, Canon Divergence, BAMF WWX, Time Travel, Attempt at Humor, PTSD, Oblivious WWX, WWX-centric, Blind WWX, Sentient Burial Mounds, Self-Indulgent, Everyone Lives/Nobody Dies, Oblivious Pining, Not Canon Compliant)
~*~
3. Hi; for fic finder, could you help me find shapeshifter!WWX fic? Its an old fic. Its a series too i think (3 fic with the first in the series completed and the second part is WIP). I think its tiger WWX (not sure). After WC throws WWX to burial mound, WWX shift to tiger. He cant shift back to human. He hunts the wen in tiger form. He help NHS when he is in the river. NHS was attacked by the wen (either wen or a yao). They then goes to Qinghe. In Qinghe, JWY and LWJ bring back WC to Qinghe to interrogate him. But WWX sees WC and bite him to death. I think WWX is the one who killed WRH too. He bit WRH to death i think
In the second part of the series, after war it was found out that WWX is shapeshifter and many wants to kill (?) Him. The last time i read this, it still only has 1 or 2 chapter.
That all i can remember. Thank you! @idontknowwhattowriteforusername
FOUND! The Tiger has Destroyed his Cage by updatebug (G, 54k, WangXian, Shapeshifters, Fix-it fic, Animal Pelts, Tiger WWX, Found Family, adopted family, Yungmeng Siblings, Canon appropriate angst and violence, Gratuitous OCs)
~*~
4. i read this a while back but can't remember the name of it, if anyone can find it or knows the name please let me know .
Nie huaisang, lan zhan, Jiang chang active a time travel array. Huaisang and land zhan did NOT know JC altered the array to erase WY. LZ eventually forces JC to fix it and bring WY back.
When JC altered the array to bring WY back he messed up somewhat and the price was his own core disapp //
I read a FF a while back and cannot remember the name of it, if someone could help me out, I would LOVE to reread it.
Years after Wei WuXian died, Lan Wangji and Nie Huaisang want to travel back in time to save Wei Ying and Nei Mingjue. NHS and LWJ finds an array but realize they cannot activate it without Jiang Cheng's help.
However they didn't realize that JC changed the array until they were back in Cloud Recess lecture. LWJ punches JC and
JC had erased WWX from existence. Eventually LWJ made JC fix it and bring back WWX.
After WWX is brought back he reveals the gold core transfer along with other secrets.
However when JC redid the array and brought WWX back is made his own core slowly disintegrate.
They do save the Wen Remnants and and Wen Qing actually helps LWJ finish destroying JCs core when he is challenged to a dual.
@prissyp2014

5. Hello! For the fic finder/s, thank you in advance. ♡
For days I've been trying to find this fic. I'm not sure with the details like if wei wuxian is a farmer here or older (i think he is a farmer though) but what I remember is lan wangji making advances to wei wuxian while sleeping (wei wuxian here is known as a heavy sleeper ) but at some point wei wuxian got awake during those and from then on anticipate what lan wangji gonna do, so he knows what lan wangji is doing and there's a number of that that happens. Also, lan wangji is running out of time because he was about to go to the main central or the palace to take an imperial exam (? I'm not sure if that's the term) anyway, he was going with lan sizhui to take that exam. I'm not sure if he goes on the day of the exam but I vaguely remember that he confess his feelings to wei wuxian before or on that day. Then they did the everyday. ヾ(@゜▽゜@)ノ
FOUND? #5 is "like the waves return to the shore, again and again" but it's been deleted. There's a link to a cache on the @wangxianficrecs blog around Jan 20, maybe Mod Kay can help?
Regarding #5, I have that story saved. So, if anyone wants to read it, send an ask for WangxianFicRecs or a message to @the-last-d-boy with your mail adress and I'll send it to you. ~Mod Kay

6. Hi! I've been trying to find a fic (I believe it's a time travel au where Lwj and Jc, or just Jc I'm not sure, travel back in time), but the only scene I remember is a scene where Jc for some reason gets mad with Wwx during the Sunshot Campaign after finding Wwx in the woods around the war camp (I don't remember what Wwx was doing). Jc hits Wwx with zidian and Wwx is sent flying into a tree. Jc gets scared after Wwx doesn't get up and goes see if Wwx is ok, only to find out Wwx's heart is no longer beating. Lwj (I don't remember if he arrived after Jc hit Wwx or if he was already in the woods with Wwx), then, manages to make Wwx's heart beat again by performing CPR on him.
can't find the fic, but I remember it. Maybe these details will help. Lan Wangji found out about WWX not having a core after he gets back from being missing (I think by grabbing his wrist maybe?), but Jiang Cheng doesn't know. He didn't expect that hitting WWX with Zidian would be much of a problem for him and he's totally freaked out when WWX collapses and LWJ starts doing CPR which is what you'd do for a non-cultivator
FOUND? these colours fade for you only by doodlebutt (T, 36k, WangXian, Canon Divergence, Fix-It, Fluff and Angst, Angst with a Happy Ending, Everybody Lives, Golden Core Transfer Fix-It, ...eventually, Hurt/Comfort, Nightmares, bed sharing, Mutual Pining, Slow Burn, Sunshot Campaign) it isn’t a time travel fic, but it has the scene where jc hits wwx with zidian
~*~
7. Completely unrelated to my last ask, I’m looking for a Dragonji fic where his hoard is bunnies. Lan Xichen tries to talk to him in the bunny field but he’s just chilling in his dragon form with the bunnies finding him Good. Lan Xichen flies to the Burial Mounds for desperate negotiations with Wei Wuxian. Eventually Wei Wuxian mentions that Lan Wangji didn’t have any bunnies until WW gave him some. LX has some realizations from that. @any-mouse

8. hii!! i was searching for a fic where lwj finds wwx's corpse at the BM and things happen. i don't know much but it was cracky. i hope you can find it!! thanks already :D @for13years-i-play-inquiry-foryou
FOUND? (we make) a good pair by gamayuglagay (gracon_bacon) (E, 1k, WangXian, Canonical Character Death, Grief/Mourning, Necrophilia, Foot Fetish, Vajankle, Dead Dove: Do Not Eat, Crack Taken Seriously) Warning: NECROPHILIA
~*~
9. I read this time travel fic a while ago which I can't find!
I vaguely remember a lot of dimension travel and a-yuan js sort of helping wei wuxian doing the said travel and a-qing is also there. in one part they reach the past but like not really cultivation world (not sure on that) and meet lan xichen, there's also lwj and wwx of that world who help them get back, there's an spaceship and stuff and I think wen qing was also there maybe?
i just realized that the request i sent was way too vague and so is the summary of the fic, which I was misled while looking for it. also if u could add this to the ficfinder post, to explain why this is the fic I was looking for, it is very confusing I'm sorry!!
apparently it wasnt a-yuan who was helping wwx, but rather an original character and its more parallel universes than time travel!! its abeautiful fic!!
FOUND! counterpart by queensmooting (E, 37k, WangXian, Canon Divergence, Parallel Universes, Multiple Selves, Kid Fic, some child endangerment (everyone will be fine), lwj can and has gotten pregnant, Bottom LWJ/Top WWX, bittersweet ending (ymmv))
~*~
10. hello! i'm looking for a fic where wwx and lwj have a biological child (i'm not sure if it's a-yuan). i think this fic has an omegaverse setting? lwj doesn't know about the child until a bit later on and even then he's unsure bc when he sees the child and asks wwx, wwx tells him to ask again the next time they meet (or he'll tell him more? i'm not sure). but they don't meet again bc wwx dies at qiongqi path on the way to jl's 1 month celebration via a bunch of arrows courtesy of jin zixun and co. he brought along wn and his child, but wn brings the child to cloud recesses secretly, so jzx doesn't die due to wn. i remember there was a scene where they brought wwx's body to jinlin tai and stripped him naked to scan for the hundred holes curse scars, and jins were creepy about it. lwj was dissociating in this scene and he's sorely disappointed in his brother for not helping stop them. please help, i've been thinking abt this fic for days now 😭 @aracchiii
FOUND! 🧡 Born to Blossom, Bloom to Perish by LadyMithiel (M, 113k, WIP, WangXian, A/B/O, Mpreg, Angst, Mostly Canon compliant)
~*~
11. Hi!!! I'm trying to find a fic (it's an one-shot, if I remember correctly) that happens during the Sunshot Campaign. One of the soldiers sees Jc and Wwx fighting, and they see Wwx flinching, and trying to back away. This soldier (I think they either were sexuality assaulted or knew someone who was sexuality assaulted and reacted like this towards the abuser, I don't remember which one it is now), and they find Wwx's reactions to Jc way too similar to the reactions of someone towards their abuser and comments this with another soldiers. The "Wwx reacts towards sect leader Jiang like someone who was sexuality assaulted does" comment spreads around, and soon becomes rumors that Jc did rape Wwx. Wwx is confused by how suddenly everyone is sympathetic towards him, treat him with care and don't let him alone with Jc. One of the last scenes is Jc mad because Wwx "tarnished his reputation", Wwx not understanding shit of what's going on and Jc getting real scarry. They were in a secluded place, I think. Lwj is walking about and sees Wwx backed away on a tree while Jc is looking really agressive, Wwx looking scared, and he (who has heard of the rumors), goes like "nope, he's not about to take Wy against his will again. Not on my watch" and totally trashes Jc (I don't remember if only verbally or also physically).
FOUND? might be chapter 15 of Vrishchika's short prompts?
~*~
12. heyyy, I read the summary of this fic some time ago and I can't find it anymore.
I think it was a modern au in which wwx dies and lwj is looking for him. might be modern with cultivation or maybe wwx just disappeared and everyone thinks he's died. I dont really remember a lot, help me out.
I'm pretty sure he dies though.
FOUND? when the sun goes out by travelingneuritis (E, 176k, WangXian, Modern AU, Modern Cultivation, tech cultivation, Necromancy, Angst with a Happy Ending, insecurity around adoption, Dad!WWX, dad!lwj, Grief/Mourning, Mistaken Identity, Mood Whiplash, Body Swap, sex tears!, Falling In Love, Consensual Somnophilia, apocalypse (localized), Smut, unrealistic sexual stamina, Flashbacks, Time Skips, Illustrations)
~*~
13. I'm looking for a fanfic where wwx gave his golden core to jc but then developed a black one, and if he uses too much demonic cultivation he can die or something like that. also I don't remember if it's from the same fic or not but I think the annoying cousin of Jin z dies from a curse
FOUND? 🧡 a stone to break your soul, a song to save it by rikke (M, 180k, wangxian, Canon Divergence, arranged marriage)

14. hello! how are you doing?
i once read a ff in which WWX is rescued/saved/something like that by the Lan Clan i think in the middle of war or something but WWX helps Lan Clan to tackle the problem of crops with his yin energy talisman/array. i hope you will be able to find it (i know its not enough information 😭) @let-it-be-rainbow

15. hello im looking for a fic where wen ning shoots an arrow at wrh and it hits him in the eye. i think it's a time travel fic but im not sure. also wn asks wq like uncle isn't a good person, is he. i appreciate the assistance
hello im anon on the latest ff #15. sorry, but it's not the fic i was looking for. i remember it being multiple chapters, also the sunshot campaign did happen. the part where wen ning shot wrh was during the final battle of ssc and he was at a high vantage point with wq away from the fighting
NOT FOUND! 💖 Where The Arrow Points by Nillegible (G, 4k, WN & WQ, WN & WWX, WWX & JC, WIP, Time Travel Fix-It, No Sunshot Campaign, Because Um. Wen Ning murders Wen Ruohan, IT WAS AN ACCIDENT, really)
SIMILAR The Ghost General by English is my death (Lena013) (T, 5k, WN & WWX, WN & WQ, WN centric, BAMF WN, Time Travel Fix-It, what's a conference without someone killing their uncle?WN murders WRH, WN Lives, Ghost General WN, WN looks into his uncle's eyes before killing him, Fierce Corpse WN, Canon Divergence) Actually, I just read the italicised part of the ask for 15, so my suggestion is definitely not it. But it did have time travel WN killing WRH with an arrow!

16. Hi I’m looking for a specific fic that I thought I had saved, but alas😑
It’s a ‘watching the memories’ type of fic. With protective Jiang Cheng, Lan Xichen, Lan Zhan and juniors.
Anyway I don’t remember much but what I do remember is that the story is set after guanyin temple and that they watched a memory of wwx going about his birthday alone. Qiren and many others were assholes to wwx who just wanted to spend the day with his husband and son, but was constantly denied and berated.
This in turn lead to JG, LZ and LXC I think being angry and protective on his behalf.
That’s all and thank you for the endless effort you all put into finding all these fic’s. @ravenwithwings
FOUND! Music Heals All Forms Of Misery by idontknowwhatimdoinghalfthetime (T, 63k, WIP, WangXian, Fix-It of Sorts, Songfic, Past Character Death, Heavy Angst, Self-Esteem Issues)

17. Hi hi! Im looking for an Ao3 fic where WQ and WY go to cloud recessess because theyve negotiated protection for the wen remnants with the Lan Clan. The condition is that WY must be purged of all resentful energy, which he and WQ think will kill him, and they believe the Lan clan knows it. Theres a scene where during the purge Lan Zhan realizies whats happening and asks Wei Ying why he would think the Lan wanted to kill/harm him. Pretty sure its a happy ending, or at least hopeful!
Thanks so much, hope youre all well! @la-voce-to-me

18. Hi, I am looking for a Wangxian fic that has a lot of twin jade feels I think its starts after the burning of Recesses where both jades are captured by WX and a lot of bad things happen to LWJ after which he ends up forced to work in a brothel where he meets WWX who came to rescue JWY and maybe JZX from the indoctrination and I also remember that LXC was allowed to visit Lan Zhan but only when he was drugged to sleep and that WX knew that the jades kept in line only cause of the other. It probably followed canon divergence and it was a complete fanfic. the story is pretty hazy in my head so I am hoping someone remembers it. thank you.
FOUND! 19. I remember reading a fic where Wei Wuxian was taken as a prisoner, I think maybe by the Nie, and everyone expected him to practice Inedia while kept captive just for him to become extremely ill from lack of food, revealing his lack of golden core. Everyone freaks out a bit

20. Hi👋🏽
I love looking through your fic-finder posts and discovering ‘new’ fics to read !
I’m trying to find a fic taking place after the SunShot Campaign, where WWX takes the role of a Jiang Elder instead of Head Disciple. I’ve tried looking for it by AO3’s filter but was only able to find a similar fic series - Rest of Resolution by MarbleGlove.
Details: WWX somehow fools the JGS into thinking WWX is older than he actually is (Lan Qiren is in on the joke too). @animewatching
FOUND? Like a Water-Worn Stone by meyari (T, 41k, wangxian, major character death, Hurt/Comfort, very little hurt, lots of comfort, Chronic Illness, Serious Injuries, Self-Medication, Disability, PTSD, Depression, Self-Worth Issues, Implied/Referenced Child Abuse, aftermath of war, Aftermath of Violence, Prisoner of War, Identity Issues, Warning: Jīn Guāngshàn, enslavement (discussion of), abuse (discussion of), actually very fluffy despite the warnings)
FOUND? Elder, an Aesthetic by MarbleGlove (G, 8k, JC & WWX, Fix-It, Post-Sunshot Campaign)

Nie Huaisang literally gossiping, he's the best. Also he looks so prettyyy. And his fan??? I want.
Damn, Wei Wuxian, I know you've got balls, but the Wen Clan?? You brave dumbass.

I'd like to see you try, stuck up bastard.
WEI WUXIAN WAS ACTUALLY CARRYING HIS SWORD THIS WHOLE TIME??? I DEADASS THOUGHT IT WAS A STICK
Haha, an impasse. They'd sooo beat you down.
I like how they're so good at catching their swords. I wish I could.
Hahaha, Lan Xichen looks so done with everyone's shit. God forbid something is easy for once.
Catching everyone's attention with his badass flute playing.

"resisting evil guys is an endless joy" oh, Wei Wuxian, my beloved dumbass
Hahaha, it's stupidity, not courage.
YOU ARE SUCH A BAD INFLUENCE
"Stoooop, let me have fun"
Look, Lan Wangji, it's your boyfriend! Don't... DON'T IGNORE HIM!!!
Wei Wuxian never learns
"I fought him last night" and Nie Huaisang looks like he's about to pass out
They are such gossipers
Jiang Cheng stomping his feet as he follows haha
They obviously have alterior motives, Lan Xichen is sooo smart
He's catching on so fast haha
Lan Qiren gets his brain power from tea
I want to tug his beard tee hee
He's just dropping lore at this point
MENG YAO LOOKS PETRIFIED
Aw, they're going to be besties. What could possibly go wrong? (Foreshadowing foreshadowing)
He looks like he's about to cry, stoppp
Lan Xichen may also be having his own love crisis
WEN QING!!!!!
What you up to, guuurl?
Oh shit, you plotting. I'll leave you to it
They're having so much fun in the lake, they're literally best friends.
They share one brain cell haha
Hahahaha, the way that Nie Huaisang just takes Wei Wuxian's word as gospel
One day you'll catch a fish
Hehe, watch him pout
HE'S PLOTTING!!!
HAHAHA, DON'T LET HIM WIN
I love how he immediately goes serious
Don't just ditch Nie Huaisang like that
HOW ARE HIS ROBES DRY ALREADY???
He's so unaware of the danger he's in, that cheeky little smile

I’ve been thinking a lot about the MDZS ending recently, so here’s a rambly post about where I'm currently at:
Wangxian made the choice to stay a part of the Lan Sect. Their interactions seem to be limited due to the amount they travel, but they’re still at home in the sect, it’s where they have their house, they work with the juniors, where their money comes from. I’ve seen people say that because it is not a place that accepts them, and that because the Lan Sect has committed its own crimes, that this was a bad choice, one that will make them unhappy in the future, and I just sort of don’t agree.
Something I think I rambled about before is that Mo Dao Zu Shi is pretty realistic with its societal problems like homophobia and classism, they are structural problems that are part of their entire society. That kind of thing isn’t solved in a day, and short of seclusion I don’t think there’s anywhere Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji could go that’s completely free of them, and if we think of that through a realistic lens, isn’t that much sadder? I know a good portion of people in the fandom are queer or marginalized in some other way, isn’t the thought of just… Never being accepted, having to hide away forever, being made to leave society, much much sadder?
Not everyone wants to be out and proud, not everyone is safe to do that, hell I’m not. But I don’t think limiting my interactions with people and leaving all the places that bring me joy would be a form of resistance, running away feels like a tragedy in itself. Obviously I don’t mean that for every situation, it’s great and encouraged for people to leave situations that make them unsafe! You don’t have to interact with bigoted people if you don’t want to! It’s important to take care and living a happy life does count as resistance in a world that doesn’t want you to. It’s just that in their case I don’t think that's what it’d be.
Yes, some of us are tired and want to leave a society that clearly was not made for us, but there are people fighting to make it a better one and that thrive within that. That’s the kind of people I think they are supposed to read as. They’ve found a way to make their happiness and exist within those spaces they want to occupy, and it isn’t perfect, but we see signs of it getting better through the juniors, and I think it’s entirely possible that it’s not as bad as some of us fear it to be in the adult front as well. Not in the direct interactions with the Sect, but in the rest of the novel.
Most of us are in acceptance that saving the Wen Remnants was the right thing to do, and that they were not all in agreement over what was happening in the sect all the time right? If not all Wens are the same as Wen Rouhan and his closest family, then why do we make all sects be a monolith? People will have different opinions, these organizations are big places and I highly doubt everyone feels some unanimous way about Wangxian.
More on the Wens, Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji both show no resentment towards that group of people, even though that had been right after the war and they had been enemies very recently. And they might very well have fought some of the people in the burial mounds settlement before! But the point is not what they did, it was that the war was over and that it wasn’t right to act in the same way as the Wen had, fostering resentment and cruelty.
It’s not about what the Wens did or didn’t do, but more about what kind of person Wangxian are.
I think the same applies here. To change people’s minds about prejudice and to encourage growth, you need to offer them a place to go when they leave those beliefs behind. Now, do I think that means Wei Wuxian should be buddy buddy with Jiang Cheng if he ever changes his mind and miraculously goes through some character growth? Become happy in-laws with Lan Qiren? No! There is such a thing as having healthy boundaries while also not holding onto vengeful feelings.
The kind of people we see they accept into their lives are ones like Jin Ling and the other kids who change their minds on Wei Wuxian over the course of the story, Lan Xichen and Nie Huaisang who are in dubious places regarding morality, those I think seem to have room to grow.
It’s admirable and heartwarming to me that they would choose to live a good, happy life and to make their world better, little by little as they help people and teach juniors and affect everyone else around them. I don’t think either of them are actively being activists in the way we would conceptualize them right now. They are simply happy and just being themselves and still their happiness by itself will have an impact on plenty of people that get involved with them. It’s not perfect, but it feels like a good ending to me, especially when I think of its relevance to the world we live in right now. It won’t change to accept us, but we can still be kind to people, perhaps change some minds, and be happy in spite of all the prejudice.
Idk, it just seems like a good message to me. One of the things I love the most about both Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji is how kind they are, and it makes a lot of sense to me that if they could give a chance to the Wen Sect Remnants, they can give a chance to Lan Wangji’s family too, and they might change some minds and make some close ties with some of them like it happened between Wei Wuxian and Wen Ning, while some people there might never change, but at the end of the day Wangxian will be happy regardless and also leave the world a better place than it was when they entered it.
I'd love to hear others opinions on this, but its just an interpretation I arrived at that makes me feel happy about the ending and where its going.
