no one knows that wei wuxian was thrown in the burial mounds, right? no one actually believes that, correct? it was the first thing he brushed off when he got back, so jiang cheng and lan wangji probably think it was a misunderstanding. they didn’t think much of it, at the time. but wei wuxian really was thrown. he fought corpses, hunger, thirst, sleepiness, exhaustion and survived out of spite. it’s one of those experiences only he will know, a trauma he’ll be alone to make it heal, something to remember and kept inside and never to approach the topic again. wei wuxian’s always been like this, so that matter, although huge for the plot and devastatingly painful overall, will be forgotten. is forgotten, as he moves on.
and that’s kind of the melancholic beauty of that, isn’t it? forgetting the bad things, remembering the good, forgiving and living. like: ‘it doesn’t matter what happened to me, i’m happy now and it’s gone, so forward i go’. that’s wei wuxian, as always.

the lan family would be one of those religiously-like conservative family environments in modern times and lan qiren would find lan wangji to be that one virgin boy who’d follow the rules only to one day open his bedroom and find wei wuxian tied in the mattress with lan wangji fucking him with some bdsm shit, really, the quiet ones are always the worst
it’s so funny that lan qiren and everyone else imagine lan zhan as that pure, virgin, virtuous man who never had one perverted thought in his life.
in reality, boy kissed the object of his affections against a tree like there’s no tomorrow, fucked him in the middle of a forest, fucked him in dreams, fucked him in a bathtub, fucked him upside down, thoroughly makes sure that ‘everyday is everyday’, probably never had one ‘virtuous’ thought ever since meeting wei wuxian instead.

you know what’s crazy? how lan xichen defended jin guangyao saying that though the world had many misconceptions about him he still trusted his character just to have that affirmation thrown at his face — no, it’s not even about the naivety of it that makes me laugh, it’s about how he was the person to have seen lan wangji’s grief, had seen his persistence in raising a kid on behalf of wei wuxian, had seen his trials and his willingness to be beside wei wuxian regardless of the world telling him that the guy’s evil. he’s seen it firsthand.
all the while he probably must’ve pitied his brother, uniting with the sects to kill wei wuxian nonetheless, because he didn’t believe in the patriarch’s innocence. it’s that unconscious patronisation that makes it all the more ironic. and the fact that it was exactly jin guangyao’s actions that led to wei wuxian’s downfall.
i know lan xichen’s a good person, but it’s obvious that him and lan qiren had judged wei wuxian countless time throughout it all, and not only because he was ‘tainting’ lan wangji. i was quite annoyed when he called wei wuxian ‘his only mistake’, because, in fact, lan xichen was the one who mistakenly believed in the biggest villain, so he doesn’t have any room to talk. he committed three mistakes: by his perspective of lan wangji and wei wuxian’s relationship, of wei wuxian’s evilness and in his sworn brother as a whole.
it’s more than justified that he took his time in seclusion. it takes a while to come around such a massive mistake (did he think that too, when he saw his brother doing the same all those years ago?). not to mention that it must’ve been a big blow to realize that nie huaisang wasn’t the person he thought he was as well.
this parallel just came to me and i had to rant it so. i know it’s obvious, but yeah. don’t get me wrong, i just think lan xichen having this bit of a ‘fate’ is so good to the novel. brilliant move, mxtx, brilliant move.

THIS!! yes!! they expected to grow in their cultivation in the lan clan with guqin lessons and hanguang-jun’s advices. instead they got the gays.
imagine the disciples who just got in the lan clan. right in their first year they see hanguang-jun getting married to the yiling laozu reincarnated, see the chief cultivator being exposed and killed, were chased around by chifeng-zun’s body parts, the ghost general comes back, there’s a wen descendant in the lan clan, lan xichen’s go into seclusion and there’s a second siege in the burial mounds. they had the adventure of a lifetime 😆
the lan disciples simply saw hanguang-jun, the epitome of righteousness and the king of blank expressions, pick a random gay demonic cultivator one day and let him tag along on his adventures only for them to get married later because, yeah, that’s the yiling patriarch, in fact, why nobody told me my idol had a situationship with the biggest badass villain in history??
why is this twink ordering me around?? and then they follow wei wuxian’s orders like fools anyway. what do you mean THE hanguang-jun loves THE yiling patriarch? it must be like discovering an aloof prince had an affair with an infamous big rockstar back in the day, idk. that’s crazy funny for me, to be honest i’d go insane

can you believe the cultivation world just went along with the jin clan as jin guangshan made himself chief cultivator even though the man did nothing to help in the sunshot campaign and most likely fucked around instead of fighting? because they accepted that. they couldn’t accept wei wuxian defending the wen remnants but they accepted that. they were continuously conniving with his actions.
if i was wei wuxian, i’d run away from those people too, i mean, how blind can they be?? the clan leaders were just ridiculous to follow that guy, it’s almost laughable if it wasn’t sad at how the whole thing affected wei wuxian in the end.
