Translation of 《忘羡》Wangxian from 魔道祖师 Mo dao zu shi/MDZS (just adding my own translation of this song to the many translations out there)

[Wei] 飞花连碧 风流忆年少 | Amidst the fluttering flowers and the jade-hued stream, I recall my unrestrained youth. 姑苏又泛春潮 | Spring has come to the Cloud Recesses again. (1) [Lan] 群峰隐隐云深处 | Hidden in the Cloud Recesses, among the mountain peaks, (2) 延绵自有相思道 | is my heart, with its own yearnings. 人虽去冰心未销 | He is gone but this ice cold heart has yet to be warmed. [Wei] 雨过枇杷俏 | As the loquats are watered by rain, 竹篙略挑随手抛谁接着 | I lift the bamboo pole and throw it. Who is the one who will catch it? 个中酸甜日后都付一笑 | One day, I’ll pay back these bittersweet days with an Emperor’s Smile. [Both] 原来陈情俱是旧人 | It turns out that all along, these feelings have actually been about you. (3) 撩动心事如何能避尘 | How can I still avoid the dust of everyday life, now that my heart has been stirred? okay, so I was going to do a full reread of MDZS (like a normal person) but decided to deal with Nightless City first and honestly???

like. I had a question regarding the parents of Wei Wuxian's generation specifically and like??? Here, the whole time Jin Guangshan spends arguing with Wei Wuxian (yes I screenshotted all his dialogues from the Nightless City battle), he doesn't even bring up his own son specifically a single time. He's just one of the Jin disciples killed at Qionggi Path. Like you would THINK he would say stuff like "omg Wei Wuxian, how DARE you kill my son even after he did all of that" even for politics, but he can't even be arsed to do that. How useless can he be

The way the first things Wangxian did after being a couple was:

1. Facing off LWJ's pathetic creepy stalky obsessor, Su She.

2. Facing off WWX's tragic, pathetic, stalky obsessor, Jiang Cheng.

They're like celebrities telling their fans and anti fan cafes to move on cause they're together ❤️

Seeing people complaining JC never get to vent is so funny, like, did they forget his catastrophic display in his own Ancestral Hall with WWX being outlet for his tirade? Or how he did another round of venting and ranting after defeating JGY?

Are straight people who have watched the censored, plot-changing version of MDZS, a.k.a The Untamed allowed to have an opinion on whether or not Jiang Cheng was homophobic? You can simply believe in the CQL! JC as "homophobic" JC comes from the novel. Homosexuality was lightly coded into CQL which was literally trying to pair up Wen Qing and WWX and also JC, how would they even have space for homophobia? But saying he was not homophobic, because you love the Untamed and have lightly read the book and are a straight person is just so unreasonable. Not to mention, completely ignoring the text that showcases his homophobia, and drawing up your own reasons of how he was jealous of how free Wei Wuxian was.

"JC was raised believing people with free will are a problem -> so he turns homophobic towards Wei Wuxian."

This simply doesn't make sense and even justifying it sounds homophobic, lol.

Not to mention, believing Wei Wuxian was "free" is ??. If JC doesn't wish to run the sect, he can let WWX do it, lmao. But his classism wouldn't allow that. Secondly, WWX can never act freely - due to his social status. JC can whip up whoever he wants, speak whatever he wants, scream at, and shout at people, but WWX can't do SHIT. That's why he's so happy to be Mo Xuanyu.

Even so, excusing people for being homophobic cause they were bought up like that is, you guessed it, homophobic. I'm sure most of our parents/grandparents are homophobic. Look at Jin Ling. He grew up.

I just hate it when people try to 'fix' WWX's fear of dogs.

The dude has a legitimate reason to be frightened of them after what he's been through and as long as it doesn't affect his life and make him miserable - which it really doesn't, he's scared and runs off and now he's got a hit husband to save him and make him feel safe - why make it an issue?

Not everyone likes dogs, not everyone has to compromise and face a fear because someone else has a dog.

Why is it always WWX who has to 'get over' his fear in these fanfics? Why aren't others more understanding of his fears and keeping the dog away or leaving it at home - which you'll notice canon JL actually starts to do, especially in the extra when they are on a night-hunt.

I just think it's really inconsiderate of people to down play WWX's fear and make him "get over it" so he can play happy families as some double uncle team with JC - which is less likely to happen than WWX getting over his fear of dogs! Then again, considering the plot dynamic of these "fix it" fics, full of ooc shit they wouldn't do... I guess I shouldn't be surprised.

Can we stop calling "Canon-purists" annoying for calling out mistakes in the official translation? Like, I'm sorry, it is the duty of the translator to capture the themes of the novel. You can enjoy whatever you wish, with whatever interpretations. Some do enjoy sticking to the source material as closely as possible to understand it in its entire essence. I'm referencing this as there was a person who brought up a meagre fact about the 7S translation and was quoted ruthlessly by other fans. Like. Just. Ignore.

I love how people in mdzs are like ooooh ghost flute Chenqing aaaaah so scary but this flute. Has teeth marks from a child on it. Wei Wuxian aka Evil Yiling Laozu takes care of a child and lets him teethe on his Scary Demon Ghost Flute. And then in tgcf they’re like ooooh E’ming, Evil Deadly Scimitar, aaaah don’t touch it or even get near it!!! But then Xie Lian goes and pets it and it squeals with delight at the attention.
