Do you know what design I reallyyy don't like from the kotlc official art?
Don't get me wrong I love most of it but the ogres look so wrong 😭😭😭 Why are they so top heavy? Why are the clothes so revealing?
I mean I don't want to see all that 😭 Specifically the men. The face and skin is pretty good but the bodies are sooo hard to imagine in a battle or talking with elves. Also how do they put their clothes on if they're metal? Wait are they metal? I can't remember.
Not to be rude but yeah.

Wanted to share this bit of lore I remember with someone who also treasures the Dizznees (and maybe Lovise).
Lovise could’ve lead her own squadron, but instead she chose (and continues to choose) to stay with Dex and his family so she can protect them. I just think it’s sweet.
oooooh i remember that!!! there was also something about her preferring to work alone as well and that she’s actually the oldest Goblin but not the highest ranking because of her preference to work alone
i think the fact that she prefers to work alone, but decided to stay with Dex and his family, when they are incredibly chaotic is amazing!
oh and my personal headcannon for her is that she tosses the triplets into snow drifts when they’re being annoying (Kesler and Juline are fine with it) and i saw someone say that they headcannoned her to have a long black braid and tattoos years ago now and i just think that’s an amazing idea

canon /j
the bodyguards secretly ship their charges CONSTANTLY except for Sandor who finds it annoying and immature
ro doesnt exclusively ship Sokeefe, she will ship Keefe with anyone she's just here for the drama
grizel is annoyed that Fitz is still gay in denial, because all the other gay charges have figured it out by now
they have bets on who will get together first, the dwarves keep winning because they know all but out of the goblins grizel usually wins
woltzer ships Biana x Obedience

in this household we ignore canon as much as we want to and whenever we want to.
my headcanons on Ro's appearance:
Long ombre hair. Goes from purple at the roots to magenta to light pink.
She wears it down, but always has a scrunchie around her wrist(not pictured). Whenever she goes into battle, there's a cool scene where she pulls her hair back with her glittery scrunchie and then launches into the fray.
Insanely tall. Like, at least two feet taller than Keefe. A foot taller then Cassius. Taller than Grady. So tall. Ogres just be built that way.
Leather armor. Could not give less of an actual darn what any of the vegans that hire her thinks. It's a lot more comfortable for day to day wear than metal. And she can do whatever the heck she wants. No one's gonna argue with the sword.
She's not super ripped. Like, she's buff. She's muscled, but its a lean sort of muscled. She doesn't have or want body-builder muscles, because she knows that slows you tf down. She's just buff like someone who trains a ton but isn't focused on building muscle mass, and is instead focused on fighting, agility, and all that stuff.
Her nails are filed into claws. That is all.
Wears pants. Like a sane person.
Huge teeth. She could(and has before) rip somebody's throat out with them if she wanted to go feral.
Is covered in weapons. A million pockets in the pants, a million pockets in the shift underneath her armor, a thousand spots in the armor, it's imperative that she have a lot of places to store weapons. And she does.
Wears practical stuff. Also boots. Because contrary to popular belief ogres actually do have nerves in their feet. And it's never fun to step on an arrow in the middle of a battle.

Hello it’s mossy back with another bodyguard ask
I’ve been thinking about this ever since I read the books a few years ago:
Do the bodyguards eat?? Or sleep?? We only ever see them eat once and it was when Sophie came back to havenfield in flashback, and we’ve only ever seen Sandor sleep in the earlier books when Sophie said that he would fall asleep in her history class
Do they need sleep?? Do they need to eat?? Are they just severely overworked? And if they are overworked what does that entail?
Hope you’ve had a good week 👾
Mossy! I've had this exact question in the earlier books in regards to Sandor, especially because of that one scene where Edaline offers him a day off and he declines it, saying that Sophie's needs his protection now more than ever.
So that shows that they can have time off at the very least. But there's also the question of sleeping and eating. Eating I think is fairly simple, they eat when Sophie eats. Her schedule is their schedule, so unless there's some other situation, it seems reasonable that they'll just be part of Sophie's family's meals, though they may not eat the elven food or at the table with them and instead have something else prepared for themselves and be off to the side. Near enough to protect her if something happens but far enough away to give a sense of normalcy, you know?
Sleeping is easy if we're looking at after Flashback when Sophie's got a whopping five people assigned to her, because they can work in shifts. That way, they can take a break and sleep/do whatever else they need to without leaving Sophie unattended, and in the event of an emergency can be awoken to join the rest of the bodyguards.
Prior to that is where I'm assuming plot convenience comes through and we just ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ away any questions because those details aren't important. Because when it's just Sandor, when does he get time off? He's shown to be guarding her through the night and to be awake at least all the times when she's awake (except for that one class), and as an insomniac that is often! He can't be protecting her 24/7 because he also has needs, but with so many other plot things happening it gets swept under the table as a "don't worry about this it just works" thing. Which is fine! Totally understandable and only leads to questions when we really focus on it
At least, that's how I regard it. I did try and find some sources from real-life bodyguards to see what they do (and found out they don't like to be called bodyguards) but it seems like in the event someone needs 24/7 supervision they're high profile enough to require multiple bodyguards, and otherwise they would just be employed for events or something. So we could say that Sophie's been in need of more bodyguards since Sandor was first introduced, and perhaps he was the only one for the sake of simplicity and not having so many characters.
that's less of an in-canon reason, but I think it plays a part!
(also thank you my week is going fine so far <33)

Spoilers for Nightfall
TW: swearing
I don't think any of you grasp how absolutely fucking insane it is that Biana jumped both Fintan And Vespera in one fucking move
Biana is the world's most gifted fucking vanisher because not only can she hide from gnomes who can see basically LIFE ITSELF
But she hid from Fintan and Vespera. Vespera, as smart as she wants to be, didn't notice one of the people in the group missing and that's on her ass. Play cocky games, get the shit beaten outta you. But FINTAN?! She got past fire alarm Fintan? And jumped his shit? WHILE DROPPING A QUIP?!
Iconic. Incredible. Amazing. Wonderful. Awe inspiring.
That gogurtgogogrodon should've been fucking howling by how wild of a move Biana pulled. Successfully too.
She got Fintan's goofy ass wanna be smurfs hat off ruining his Dopey cosplay so Grady could get him and immediately goes for Vespera. No hesitation, just turn and tackle the next guy.
Grizelda's freaky mutated gogopowerrangersgigglygongadong should've jumped in the air and started slamming the ground like a wrestling ref calling it because of how quickly Biana went from one opponent to another. She is insane. She is unstoppable. She is that girl. She is Barbie.
And that's not even everything she did!
Biana was bleeding out and said to everyone, on god, "get Vespera". Biana was not letting that woman walk. If she had the strength, I'm sure Biana would've arm barred her so badly Vespera would beg to be locked up and forgotten again just from the humbling Biana would give her.
Biana should've gotten a damn metal of honor for being the most insane out of all of them. Fintan has a body count that includes a Counsilor. Vespera has who knows how many human casualties on her hands. Biana was about to to em both in and I applaud her.

hate mediocre fight training/bodyguarding. if ur gonna be preparing someone to maybe get assassinated then do it right. here is a list of some thinks i think should be added
-poison immunity being built up
-improvised weapons training
-teaching people to wear shitty cheap rings ALL THE TIME so it's like brass knuckles
-understanding that different people are gonna be better at different weapons not bc of physical talent but bc of mental reasons

Dogs of the Lost Cities (aka Keefe and Mallow—Part 1)
So I've been thinking about the pets in the Lost Cities, or rather, the lack thereof. While there are some pets (Iggy, Princess Purryfins, etc), and we know there's a pet store in Atlantis, compared to the number of people we know, there are relatively few who we know have pets. Now, I have no theories for why this is, at least not at the moment.
But it strikes me as interesting that there are no human animals (that sounds weird but idk what else to call them XD) in the Lost Cities, especially since humans and elves used to live together. Was there really complete division of pets all along? Or did elves have pets like dogs and cats at one point, but didn't continue breeding them after the split? Are animals fooled by illusions so that no human animals wander into the Lost Cities by accident? 'Cause as awesome as all the fantastical animals are, I think it would be cool for the Lost Cities to have "normal" pets too.
So anyway, I'm giving the Keeper crew dogs. I'll start with Keefe 'cause he's my favorite because I think having a doggo would be great for him.
One day, Sophie and Keefe sneak off to the Forbidden Cities just because.
They happen across a animal rescue, and Keefe is super curious about it. When Sophie explains what it is, he insists on going in.
They wander around for a bit, then Sophie says they have to go home now, but Keefe sees a little golden puppy huddled in blankets in the back corner, and is immediately drawn to it.
The person at the counter notices and explains that the puppy was rescued off the side of road a week ago, it's sick and showing no signs of improvement, and they don't think it'll make it. They're now looking for someone willing to give it a comfortable home for however much time it has left.
Keefe is heartbroken by this and wants to take the puppy, but he doesn't have human money for the adoption fee.
He promises to come back within the hour, and the employee agrees to hold the puppy for him. Sophie and Keefe leap home, and then to Dex's house. They barge into Dex's room, grab him, and leap out the window for Sophie to teleport them.
Dex is obviously shocked to find himself suddenly in the Forbidden Cities, and is more than a little irritated with Sophie and Keefe for abducting him, but when they explain why they're there, he sighs and agrees to hack an ATM for them.
Keefe withdraws a huge amount of human money from his birth fund, then they go back to the rescue. Keefe donates the money to the rescue and leaves with the little Golden Retriever.
The three leap to Havenfield, where they are faced with a very angry Grady and Kesler. But neither can stay upset with the kids when they see the tiny puppy, and let them off with a firm warning not to pull a stunt like that again.
Keefe leaps to Splendor Plains and begs Elwin to try and save the puppy. Elwin warns Keefe that he's not a veterinarian and knows nothing about human animals, but takes a look at the puppy and prescribes a series of several elixirs, then recommends that Keefe take it back to Havenfield because Grady and Edaline are so skilled at rehabilitating animals.
After several days of the Ruewens' expert care, the puppy shows huge signs of improvement. A couple weeks later, it is fully recovered and probably the healthiest puppy on earth.
Grady, Edaline, and Elwin clear the puppy (a male) to be taken home, and Keefe is overjoyed. He names the puppy Mallow, because he is as sweat as mallowmelt and Sophie said that his coloring looked like a toasted marshmallow.

Last favorite character?
I'm going to assume you meant least lol
I don't really have a least favourite character. While I could say someone like Gisela or Vespera, because I don't agree with a lot of their actions, I actually quite like them as characters! It's fascinating to see how horrible they are.
But that doesn't answer the question, does it. Hmm. I'd probably have to say Ro, actually, because I feel like her role has simply become "The Sokeefe Shipper." Which is fine, but incredibly boring. I actually much prefer when she's complaining about elves and elven culture all the time, because it's interesting to see her insights! I just don't really care about her opinion on Sophie's love life. That, and her pressuring Dex to tell them a secret that isn't even his is kind of... well, stupid.
At least with Gisela, Vespera, the Council, hell even Forkle– they do bad things for a reason. Dumb reasons, yeah, but they're not meddling with genes or killing people or lying because they're obnoxious. Forkle thinks he's found a way to help the elves reconcile with humans. Gisela thinks... well, I don't know what she thinks, but she wants power. Vespera wanted to research. And the Council are just afraid, honestly.
Ro just got reduced from being one of the few characters with an interesting outside perspective on the Lost Cities to being a Wattpad level Sokeefe shipper with no respect for Sophie or Keefe's feelings. Which is disappointing.

I loved your Sandor post it was such a cute headcanon,, do you have anymore of Sandor headcanons? (Or rlly any bodyguards)
Sophie has had night terrors since the day she came back from being kidnapped, she woke up screaming once a week.
the first few times Sandor after he woke her up he would go downstairs to get her parents to calm her down because he felt like it was their job not his
but after the fifth or sixth time Sophie begged him not to wake her parents because she didn’t want to worry them, he tried to convince her that it was oaky and they would want him to and failed.
knowing how much she hated anything that made her drowsy, he sat with her and taught her breathing exercises to help her calm down, and how to ground herself so she felt less out of control.
he made sure to do his job when she was attacked by the Neverseen when her abilities where reset he made sure to amp up her protection
he still helped her work though her nightmares, with the methods he was taught in school, but if he couldn’t calm her down he would get her parents
he mentioned that he did it because he felt like wasn’t able/allowed to comfort her in the way she needed and he didn’t want to cross any lines,
they where a story below her and couldn’t hear when she was having nightmares, he was closer and could comfort her in any way she needed
he still felt like he wasn’t allowed to do any more than that, as much as he wanted too he told himself that he was her bodyguard not her parent. he felt like it was against the rules of his job
but after he was thown off the mountain and Sophie tackle hugged him when he came back, he realized that he didn’t need to be so worried the rules that may or may not exist, he cared about her and he would protect her whether he was assigned to her or not.
that night she woke up from a night terror screaming his name, he came into the room and sat on the foot of her bed telling her, he was safe and so was she.
he walked her though the breathing exercises an she was refusing to even consider going back to sleep, because she had a nightmare about him getting killed and she didn’t want it to come back
so he asked her if she wanted to hear a story about when he was a kid to take her mind off of it, she nodded excitedly and grabbed Iggy and Ella off her pillow and sat right next to him
he told her that he was never very popular as a kid because he was the teachers pet, glasses and all he would remind them of homework and tests
but he had one friend who was the daughter of one of his parents friends, she was the school troublemaker and he was told to be a good influence on her
it’s not like he had any other options for friends, but much to their parents dismay she ended up influencing him and got him into trouble
he didn’t like getting into trouble, but he had a crush on her and wanted her to like him back, so he did whatever she said, and she knew this and took full advantage of it
she would call him Sir Goody Two Shoes among other things and drag him into her elaborate plans
she was incredibly competitive and would set up contests where the loser would owe the winner a favor, or do something embarrassing, she was a sour loser but always kept her end of the deal and so did he
even if it meant doing something that would definitely get them in trouble, once he lost a obstacle corse that she set up and the deal was that the loser had to dress up in a unicorn onsie and glitter bomb the principals office
so that’s what he did she gave him her unicorn onise, two dozen glitter bombs filled with the finest glitter, and the keys to the principals office. which she refused to tell how she got her hands on.
so he went into the office when principal was on lunch brake and set up the glitter bombs to go off when the principal entered the room what they hadn’t done is figure out when the principal would return
right as Sandor had finnished setting up the bombs, but he hadn’t had time to leave the room so when the principal opened the door glitter exploded over the two of them covering ever surface in the office in a layer of glitter.
he was given detention for the rest of the year, along with his friend because when he got into trouble she was always involved somehow
when Sandor finished telling the story he looked down at Sophie she was curled up with her head on his lap sound asleep
he smiled and pulled an extra blanket out from under her bed tucking her in, he was going to be here a while

Can we get Ro and Keefe headcanons. Like. Please.
heck yea you can(finally, at long last)
Ro is actually kind of a sweetheart. Like, deep down, she cares, really badly, for Keefe. Maybe it's forced proximity, forced caring, but she does care.
The thing is, she can't. Outwardly, at the very least. She cannot care about this kid in the way that she wants to. She wants to care about him in a "pick him up, kiss his forehead, tell him to buck up, that it's all gonna be okay and that she loves him" kind of way. She can't. She's a professional.
Keefe honestly really likes the solid comfort of being cared about, even in the most professional of ways. He'll never admit it, but having someone pay attention to him fills a void inside of him that he never knew he wanted filled.
She knows a lot, a lot about this kid. She watches him almost constantly, is always near him, and she knows. She can hear him cry himself to sleep at night. She can hear him take hour-long showers. She can hear him scream from nightmares. She knows what his friendships are like, what his parents are like.
Mmm, Cassius doesn't treat Ro like a person. He treats her like an object, something that's there, watching over his son, never actually going to interfere with him. It's a shock the first time Ro tells him to go do something nasty to himself when he calls Keefe a name.
Ro gives Keefe as much space as she can afford, when things get hard. Ro was never really a touchy-feely person, so when she thinks he needs space, she gives him it. She lets him feel his emotions, lets him take time and space and just be. And then she'll appear. "Doing alright?" she asks. If Keefe shrugs, or jokes, she knows he's okay. If he shakes his head or doesn't respond, she knows he needs a friend to come over and give him a hug. She'll be on her way to hail Sophie in moments.
Keefe really. Really. Really needs Ro. He's never going to admit it. But holy. Holy frick does this boy depend on having someone who is required to care about him no matter what. Like, imagine that. It's such a bizarre thing for him, having someone care about him unconditionally, well, except for the wages, but it's so strange to him how easily he can forget that Ro's just there because she's getting paid. Holy heck. If he had to guess, he thinks, one day, watching her pace up and down the hallway, he'd think this is what having a family is like. That this is what being loved is like. That this is what family is supposed to be. He's not sure. But he can hope.
Anyways, Ro doesn't really do much of her own activities with Keefe. One day, on her day off, she invites him out with her to go hunting, but Keefe pukes on the ground in the woods after she kills her rabbits, so she decides against taking him again. Keefe looks ill whenever she mentions going out for the evening, now. But hey, at least he got off her back when it comes to hanging out with Bo.
Speaking of, Keefe's invited to her and Bo's wedding.
She does not want him to give a speech, she says, right out of the gate. Which of course makes Keefe write three speeches, all of which Ro silently loves, but outwardly rebels against.
Ro would die for Keefe even if she wasn't getting paid to do it.
Conversely, Keefe would die for Ro, and he knows he won't get paid for it.
They're both extremely sassy. So much sass. Cassius just straight up avoids Keefe when Ro's around him, after a while. She gives the kid too much power, he thinks, bitterly.
After the war, Ro doesn't need to be Keefe's bodyguard anymore. Keefe keeps his face straight and his lips smiling as she hugs him in one of her bone-cracking hugs.
"Sencen," she whispers, in his ear, "You haven't lost me, you're not losing me. The war is over, the battle is done. But you're still my kid, alright? You're the brother I never got. So listen to me, you stupidly loveable idiot, if you ever need an ogre princess. I'm there. I'll be there in a second. As fast as the light can take me. I'm always gonna have your back, Keefe," she pulled away, and looked him dead in the eyes. "Promise me that if you need me, you hail me."
Keefe nods, feeling like his world as coming apart at the seams.
He hails her that night, and she picks up the imparter in a heartbeat.
"What's the matter, kid?"
Keefe says nothing for a long moment, the clock on his wall ticking in the silence.
"Keefe?"
Keefe shrugs. "I think I miss you."
Ro smiles, into the imparter, her sharp teeth glittering. "I miss you too, kid."
The nights are long without her, and the world is less safe than it was with her near him.
But she's there when it matters.
And he needs to grow on his own.
He's doing it, right now, whether he knows it or not. Independence is a life free from fear, and if the first step is not having a bodyguard constantly, that's the first step.
When he goes to visit her a month later, she plays a prank on him, and he tries to tackle her, and everything is better.
Everything is better.
He didn't expect it to be.
But it is.

quick question: do you think goblins are like gnomes and need very little sleep? or they automatically wake up when their senses detect a potential threat? or something else?
i’m trying to figure out what sandor does during the night & how he gets sleep (if he even needs it)
Excellent question I wish I had a better answer for! I've looked into bodyguards a little bit in the past and found that if someone needed the kind of constant supervision Sophie does, there's no way for one person to do it. They'd require multiple bodyguards. So my conclusion then was that Sophie has always needed multiple bodyguards and we've just been blurring past the logistics for Sandor for the sake of not adding too many characters.
The one mention I remember of Sandor and sleep is when he feel asleep in one of her history lectures because it was so boring. Otherwise, he's been awake practically the whole series watching over Sophie. The reason gnomes need little sleep is because they can get their energy from an alternate source: the sun. So if goblins are like gnomes, they'd need an alternate source, but they're not plant-like so I'm unsure what it would be. They seem a lot more similar to other species that need sleep--like ogres, elves, etc.
So as boring an answer as it may be--not alternate energy sources, no superhuman senses and resilience against sleep--I think the most accurate answer is that Sandor's been getting by with suspension of disbelief. He's been on a constant vigilance on his own for several books, and we see that he stands guard outside her door during the night. That leaves no time for his own life and hobbies or for sleeping, but we let it slide.
However, if you're talking about the series as it stands currently, then the way he gets sleep is letting someone else take the night shift with Sophie (e.g. Flori and Bo) and hittin the hay. Doing what he wants and relying on someone else so he's properly rested to protect her later. Shared responsibilities solves all those problems.
That's at least how I understand the situation, but who knows! Maybe goblins can like. go into a state of restfulness and sleep while being alert and never actually have to go to sleep to recharge or something like that!
