Another possible contributing factor to why part of the Keeper fandom finds the series to be too mature for the age range:

This is speculation, but I think for kids with strict parents, Keeper may be their first introduction to books that aren't just the Magic Treehouse/Secrets of Droon/A to Z Mysteries/Baby-Sitter's Club/Roald Dahl type of thing, or to the fantasy genre. To more "serious" books.

For the fantasy genre, there's a remarkable lack of objectionable material. There's no made-up religious system, the romance is kept very casual [butterflies in stomach type stuff, nothing that could be described as remotely passionate], Sophie has a very strong moral compass and avoids drugs, none of the kids die or actively kill people [buttons is the closest we've come], and most tough issues are handled in a very abstract way that conveys messages like "be nice to people who are different than you" without actually addressing real-world issues.

It's a rather clean and wholesome series, and for a stricter parent who doesn't want their kid exposed to those topics but is looking for more mature books for them, it's a fairly good choice.

So you end up with a bunch of kids who have never really read any violent books for whom the violence in Keeper, while fairly minimal, can be shocking.

on my hands and knees begging keepblr to put more thought into tam's clothing than just. things you would see a kpop idol wear. like every moodboard i see of him has the shirts with the first button undone and the multiple silver rings on each hand and i just. c'mon.

i would get it if i saw it applied more to other characters who canonically wear a lot of rings (sophie/fitz with the cognate rings + panic switches), probably accessorize a lot based on their character (biana), or might like something to fidget with (dex). but to see it with just tam, who is one of the few characters who hasn't been mentioned to wear rings in canon, makes it feel like those ideas came from...somewhere else.

Gaining both and not needing any labels for what they are. Using labels but having it be so much more than a title. Were they friends before they were lovers? Or were they lovers whose friendship grew inside of their love? Unclear! Who cares!
