a teeny tiny bit of drama inspired by chapter 7 of kissesforcas's stranger things fic don't go wastin' your emotions which is a truly superb bit of writing that i love SO much, go read it now. like literally i had a brainwave in the middle of reading the chap, i take no credit for this idea, go read it

Then Eddie's eyes roll back in his head and he starts chanting. His arms are still spread high and wide, like a priest embracing the congregation, wrists loose and fingers twitching, almost lazy. The words are droning and rhythmic and hit some limbic familiarity in Steve, some instinct that says they don't belong in this place, coming from that mouth. There's shuffling from the door, which is enough to break Steve from the fucking spell that Munson is casting, hopefully only figuratively. When he looks, most of them are wide-eyed, captivated – they have all the curtains shut, still, except for the ones upstairs, and it's beaming early morning light right down the stairs behind Eddie, catching on the curls of his hair, reflecting in the watchers' eyes. Even Jason is caught. He's staring up at Eddie, and his expression is like ecstasy in negative, inverted holy fervor. This isn't even glee that he's finding justification for his witch hunt, Steve realizes. Somewhere along the way, Jason Carver started to believe that he'd seen the face of true evil and it was his duty to burn it out of the world. And here is Eddie, limned in white fire.

Lucifer the Morningstar, Steve remembers with a bubble of hysteria. The most beautiful of God's creations.

My Personal Steddie fic rec list

I read a lot of steddie fics, and thought someone might gain from me taking note of some of my favorite ones. I won't be including the obvious "Keep it Steady, Eddie" and "Are You Flagging" and such, because we have all read those, but any that aren't on the first page of the Steddie tag on AO3, I might put here.

His Majesty's Jester by GreenQueenofClubs The thing was, these popular types, the Royalty of High School Society? They just wanted to be entertained. They wanted something to break through the dull monotony of life at the top of the food chain, and if nothing happened to catch their interest, they made their own fun. Good thing Eddie was unparalleled at keeping little sheeps entertained. This one features Eddie and "King Steve" during the events of season one. Easy to read and so so fun.

wouldn't it be nice (if we could wake up) by kissesforcas Steve finds his pulse. He carries Eddie out of the Upside Down, he keeps his heart beating until they get to the hospital. And then the government intervenes, that shady part of the government? With Sullivan? And he and Eddie wind up locked up, together, in a cell. There's one bed, and glass walls, and it turns out that he and Eddie? Might need each other more than either of them thought they might. This one involves monster!Eddie, and looks at Eddie and Steve being taken by the government after the events of season 4

3. We Should Just Kiss (Like Real People Do) by OonionChiver ‘Please?’

Eddie stops him again, this time by holding his face. Steve feels Eddie’s thumb moving over his cheek, he feels the cool metal of his rings. He feels everything except what he needs.

‘I’ve never loved anything the way I love you, Steve Harrington,’ Eddie says, dark brown eyes moving between Steve’s own. ‘This isn’t the moment, sweetheart.’

It’s not a rejection, but it’s not a kiss. Steve quietly cries, insides cut up on the broken shards of his stupid little heart and Eddie holds him, he holds him all night until they fall asleep together.

OonionChiver is an amazing and unique author and I would highly recommend anything they've written (especially their other fic You're Divine ) but We Should Just Kiss is my personal favorite of theirs. Make sure to read the tags beforehand to make sure you're comfortable with all the themes in this one!

4. L is for linoleum (and nothing else) by localman

“You’re going to fucking hate me.”

“I could never-“

“No- see, see you say that, and you think you believe yourself, and hell I almost believe you too, but I know. I know that if I tell you then you’ll fucking turn tail and run, and tell the whole town about what a fucking freak Eddie Munson is, and you’ll be right.”

If, like me, you love trans head cannons I would strongly recommend this fic. It is wonderful and written by a trans author, so accurate representation is always a plus. (also there is a follow-up fic that features non-binary Steve Harrington called lady stardust and it is amazing also, I would also highly recommend it)

5. Skull Rock Era by chattrekisses

Steve Harrington never planned for Eddie Munson.

Steve was supposed to marry his high school sweetheart, have 2.5 children, and take over the family business. He was supposed to live a blissful life on a nondescript cul-de-sac, complete with a white picket fence and a closet full of tasteful polo shirts. He was supposed to make a graceful transition between being the golden boy and being the American Dream.

Mediocrity was what destiny had designed for Steve. Reality had other plans.

(Or, Steve and Eddie, against all odds, fall in love)

This fic is just classic, one of those ones that you read and have zero complaints about at the end. Its just good.

(Hope at least one person finds a new fic bc of this, feel free to add any favorites you have that you dont think are talked about enough)

ohhhhhh i have some of this trope. but apparently, i don't have much of it. im sorry. some of this eddie is basically not new, he still gets mad or he defends steve. (also if you know some please recommend them on the comments!)

what love is by kissesforcas - i CLEARLY remember a scene where eddie defends steve from the kids and they were in the car. honestly one of my favorite steddie fics.

At 4PM by strangersteddie - basically mike says something ridiculous and steve goes missing.

Odds and Ends by kikisifi13 - steve gets a migraine but dustin ignores him and kind of tells him that its just a headache. love this. love the steve harrington gets migraines agenda.

Guess I Better Wash My Mouth Out With Soap by Babybuckleydiaz - this one it's el that defends Steve. basically dustin calls steve dumb and el pushes him away with powers.

You're an Idiot, Steve Harrington by Anjel_Starling - this one isn't necessarily the party but it's nancy. this one was harsh. like even i was hurt jesus christ.

hurt people by life_is_wack - again, this one focuses on nancy. but this one, steve tells eddie his side of the story and eddie goes to nancy to defend steve.

TW on this one The Silence We Feel - PeterDrunklage - the boys keeps on pranking steve and one of their pranks become too dangerous. heavy angst i think, but i liked it (but i like angst so...)

king (nerd) steve harrington by sky_of_starflowers - steve have read LOTR but the party doesn't know. i think this is more of eddie falling in love with steve and steve feeling kind of stupid? (which he is not!)

always a lonely boy (cry, boy, cry) by riceenthusiast - this one its robin that defends steve but eddie's also there. she snapped because people still call steve asshole.

So I've had a thought.

Dangerous territory I know but bear with me.

Do you ever have those fics that live rent free in your brain? The ones you cannot shake. The ones that crop up when you've nearly fallen asleep or doing the dishes?

Might not even be a full fic, might just be a single scene, a single line, a single word that has had that effect on you.

I wanted to share some of the ones that have been living in my heart since I first read them.

If you want, I'd love to hear what fics live with you too.

But here are three of mine in no particular order (beware potential spoilers but don't worry, we only deal with happy endings in my house, I'm too fragile for anything else)

wouldn't it be nice (if we could wake up) - @kissesforcas

This... I... I can't give context for what's happening but I can't describe to you what this moment did to me. I think about it constantly. All the time the casual intimacy here and just how quietly devastating it is. This whole fic is magic put down into words. It's my favourite Vampire Eddie fic, I will never get over it. Everything kissesforcas has written is just starlight.

Take the Money and Run - @thisapplepielife

This moment. This moment. I can't remember if it's stated in the fic but whether it is or it isn't this is the moment Steve falls in love with Eddie for me, whether he knows it or not and I can feel it. This whole fic is a master class in immersion in my opinion. It's supplemented with photos, as if we're seeing their road trip album/scrapbook and the amount of research that must have gone into this is absolutely astounding. That 'Free Bird!' moment crops up in my mind, any time I think of that exciting, terrifying start of something moment, this is what I think of. This whole fic feels like a window into two real people's lives. It's amazing, please please read it.

that'd be the end of the last man on earth - @pbandjeremiah

Honestly this fic is the whole reason I began this post. The first time I read this fic I knew I'd never be able to forget it. Everything in it just speaks to me. Eddie's the single dad here. The delicacy with which his daughters mannerisms are handled, the fact that their mother is never ever deamonised or made to look bad just because and it's made crystal clear it was a very loving relationship, the way Steve and Eddie are so down bad for each other immediately just breaks my fucking heart then fucking kintsugi's it right back together again, how much Steve adores Eddie's daughters it's just... it's I can't describe it. I could barely even choose a snippett to add because I love all of it so much. In the cheesiest way possible, this fic is my warm hug, it's my safe space, it's my comfort.
