you know i mostly really like my grad program and everything but i have very quickly learned not to ask too much about vision and hearing loss bc it turns out most of the faculty here know very little about those things. they know a little bit about hearing loss but really only in the sense of "get them fitted with hearing aids/CI as early as possible so they can develop like a hearing child". i really wanna learn more about language development in deaf, blind, and deafblind children because that's the population i specifically wanna work with (and have worked with in the past). and it's just been frustrating having my questions about those populations be met with "uh. i'm really not sure."
most of the faculty have been nice about it, but i have had the misfortune of being assigned an advisor who is borderline hostile about it. the first time i brought up this subject, (back through email when i was still deciding where to go), i was asking about an ASL elective that was offered within the program and whether there were any other electives with related topics. she responded by telling me that this was a masters program in speech language pathology, not ASL. great! you could've just said "no." the second time it came up was a few weeks ago when i talked to her about maybe doing a masters thesis (i won't be doing one, by the way). i said that if i were to do one, it would be about deafness, blindness, and/or deafblindness, and she said something like, "that's not a subject that's typically studied or taught in a CSD curriculum". as if it's just crazy that i as a CSD student would want to learn about something as esoteric as fucking vision and hearing loss! what a marvel!! not like those two senses have fucking anything to do with communication huh??? not like children who are deafblind face significant barriers in their development of language, the effects of which i have personally seen in numerous individuals??? clearly i'm really the crazy one here
#sorry this ended up turning into a rant about this specific professor lol#i did mean for it to be more general but she really pissed me off#she has in fact pissed me off two out of the two times i have spoken to her so that's cool#she apparently also sucks as a prof but my cohort has lucked out bc#she was supposed to teach neuro this semester and artic/phono next semester but isn't for unknown reasons#so we get other (better) teachers#apparently i will have to have her this summer tho :/#anyway as to why i'm getting steamed about this weeks after the fact#i'm currently reading a paper on deafblindness (that i personally chose for a class project) and it's just on my mind again#everyone in the class had to pick papers on a population of interest for them (like autism; down syndrome; selective mutism; etc)#and there's a public list of what everyone chose and i'm the only one who chose anything about vision/hearing which i guess isn't surprisin#but yeah the more i think about this stuff the more i kinda wish i had taken all my prereqs so i could have applied to go to gallaudet#if there's any program that's gonna have people who know more about these populations it's there#out of the places i was accepted i feel very confident i chose the best option#this place has a brand new asl program and so they are actively making efforts to raise deaf awareness in the dept#but even with that it's still astonishing how people in this field brush off knowing anything about these populations#like yeah it's very low incidence i can get that#but we still learned a bunch about fucking williams syndrome and that's exceedingly rare#and rare or not it has a demonstrable effect on language development which makes it extremely relevant#jesus i'm sorry for the tag essay i'm gonna stop#i am procrastinating as usual bc i can't focus on this paper even though i am very interested#here is that grad school tag

the linguistic journey continues!
disclaimer: can't promise that i'll have any insights that a layperson wouldn't have, this is kinda just me thinking through the grammar of the language out loud haha.
this post covers the second language and will contain spoilers! it also assumes that you know what the symbols mean already.
(my dictionary is missing some symbols bc i missed part of the gameplay that would've prompted me to fill them in)
immediately, visually just looks different from the devotee's language, which is super cool! reminiscent of runic alphabets, kind of. i'm assuming that's a creative/artistic decision to indicate the 'toughness' of the warriors or something. not sure if the game developers would've put thought into this, but i also wonder if this is a representation of the materials that those people would've written on (w the devotees being more clay/stone based and the warriors being more stone/metal based). unclear!
in the warrior's language, the verbs generally have a diamond shape, though it's not as consistent to identify as the devotee language's line. the people-related words are kinda tall and skinny, with a stick in the middle?? again, the devotee's language was the most pictographically representative of the bunch--the warrior's language is a little less obvious. i interpreted "treasure" and "fortress" as being location-nouns due to their similar triangle shape, but the translation for "treasure" obv doesn't convey that (i originally labeled "treasure" as "treasury"). i also find it interesting that "death" bears so much resemblance to "impure". in my mind, "death" and "impure" are in the same category as the other people-nouns due to the appearance of the characters, but that might just be coincidence. could possibly suggest some cultural beliefs around who or what "death" is tho!
grammatically, this language is also SVO, like the devotee's language and like english. instead of reduplication, we have a plural marker for nouns, which seems to act like an affix (prefix, specifically) rather than a root word. i will say—i'm not a fan of the translation of "impure" and "chosen" and subsequent plurals as "impure ones" and "chosen ones". not a huge deal, but translating them that way makes them seem like adjectives when they're not, especially considering how they translate <plural bottle> as "bottles". just doesn't seem consistent, but it's a v small pet peeve haha. (while writing this, i briefly considered the idea of "impure" and "chosen" as adjectives modifying "one" but we know that's not true—not just bc the game gives us a translation that says "plural" but also it's used with "warrior" and other objects to indicate plurality too. we also know that this language uses prepositive modifiers from sentences like "carry (the) small crate", so "impure" and "chosen" wouldn't be functioning correctly as adjectives anyway, as long as we assume that the language is consistent in this aspect of grammar.)
although this isn't entirely consistent across all of the languages and for all of the words, it seems that there's a trend that function words (as opposed to content words) tend to be visually simpler--this would include things like "up/great" from the devotee language, pronouns, and i'm also going to go ahead and include "not" and "plural" in this category. this isn't an unsurprising trend--i feel like in irl languages, the more grammatical a word/word component is, the simpler/easier to write it tends to be. we find that the plural marker in the warrior, bard, and alchemist languages are all relatively simple, which also makes them easier to identify when encountering them for the first time. i felt like this also makes the warrior's language interesting, in that the words for "small", "big", "bottle", "trolley", "call", and "moon" are also all relatively simple compared to the rest of the words. (i originally identified "small" and "big" as "this" and "that" because of this.) it might indicate something about the importance of these words in the warriors' culture? or i might just be reading too far into it lol.
questions that remain unanswered:
- i wonder why "fear" breaks from the other verbs in terms of appearance (with the vertical line making the diamond part smaller)
- i'm a bit too tired/impatient to go through the verbs in this language, but i wonder if there's some pattern to their appearance (since some of them look more similar than others)

Helloo! I wanted to say that I loved second chances sm, when I found a random chapter last year I read the entire fic in a couple days bc I had to know what happened next, then reread it every now and then while waiting for the updates
I like how we can see both sides of the coin with shadowpeach, how they both care but are still struggling for different yet similar reasons, their struggle with what they went through, dealing with each other's personality traits and habits(their own too) that are still hard to let go of, the glimpses of the consequences of the punishments and their backstory in general
And maybe it's a me thing, but I feel like your Wukong acts like he's a bit aro spec, maybe demi aromantic, and I love that he does, especially while still explicitly loving(and like longing for?) Mac sm
I got that feeling after rereading one of the conversations shadowpeach had in the kitchen when Wukong said something about just wanting to be near Mac, and having him as his best friend was so great kinda like there couldn't possibly be anything better
I know it's probably to show how he grew up, or his personality, and that he's dense (specifically when it comes to reading Mac's feelings towards him) but I feel that just adds to the similarities with the aro experience bc there's a side of the aro community that is blind to more romantic stuff, and romantic-coded gestures or more intimate closeness is just closeness all the same
And your Wukong gives me the impression that he just wanted Mac to be close to him, didn't matter what kind of close, and that he holds the title of "best friend" as a really special thing. Be it BECAUSE of Mac, or maybe since before becoming friends with him, like not just anybody would be his best friend (Also it was maybe to show his trust issues, but still)
I think Wukong said somewhere that he just wanted Mac to be happy to be around him, as happy as SWK was to be around Mac. And I know his inability to put his feelings(love) into words more than referring to a strong or special friendship is probably to show that he's not good with Feelings™, but I like to think that maybe he is enamored in the way a queer platonic love would feel like, so calling it a strong or special friendship kinda does cut it to some degree I think
Also the way Mei (everyone really, but she's more expressive about it, and we see her more than other characters) sees Wukong as a hopeless case, but I think Wukong would see Mac loving him strongly in any way as the best thing ever, as long as it's strong love, he wouldn't mind, love is love, like he just wants to be as special to Mac as Mac is to him
Also I'd love to see them be together even if they don't have the same kind of love for each other, bc the love they have for each other would still be just as strong, and would let them have just as strong of a bond, (in the future, as things are going I have hope, I do hope they end up together in this universe, even if nothing of what I'm saying fits them by the end)
I mean no disrespect to your original idea, or if that's not what u intended, I tried looking through your blog and I haven't found any mention of something similar or headcanons about it
But yeah, idk if u mind ppl putting headcanons on your stories? Some ppl do mind, so idk I just wanted to say that regardless of that hc of mine, I think how you write them is so cool and interesting, and I find that about Wukong really cool even if it's not really where the story is heading and it's been really fun to reread

As someone who is kind of on the ace spectrum, I think I may have just subconsciously made it that way. Just like every other author I know, I have a habit of adding my own traumas/ideologies to my stories so I really shouldn't be too surprised LOL
But don't worry! I don't mind people making headcanons about my story~ In fact, that's my favorite part of writing is seeing how people interpret the story and seeing how they formulate it into drawings or headcanons like this! It's so cool!
Initially, my intention was to write Wukong as being oblivious/in denial about his own feelings and in general just bad with feelings. However, I really love your idea too! It's definitely one of those things where Wukong is just happy to be around Macaque. Macaque is "his person", the one he feels happy and comfortable around, the one he feels he can be open and honest around... and yeah I just realized how much that sounds like the beginnings of a queer platonic relationship LMAO

I absolutely love your analysis and I 100% agree that Wukong would be okay with Macaque loving him in any way, shape, or form so long as Macaque feels as safe and comfortable and happy as Wukong himself feels when they're together. ❤❤

'Nemona isn't an interesting rival/character, her only personality is battling' is a take I can understand pre area zero, but I don't get how anyone can reach the credits and still think that, tbh. My opinion of her SKYROCKETED during the final arc, I think she's tied for my favourite character now.
Spoilers for the endgame, but I'm gonna rant about why Nemona is amazing and far more than people give her credit for:
Nemona has a happy life. Her parents love her, she's from a successful and wealthy family, she's top of her classes and student council president and is pretty well liked - all things that very much work as narrative foils to Penny and Arven.
As such though, it means she's not got deep rooted trauma or fear or conflict to work through as much as the others - but not every character needs this kinda thing. Nemona still develops and has a fleshed out personality - it's just not thrown in your face quite as much as it is with Arven.
She's very obviously some form of neurodivergent to start with - battling is clearly her hyperfixation, and she desperately wants to share that with her friends. The thought of a good fight sends her blood boiling in a good way, and one isn't enough! She needs another battle - no - twenty!
(side note: ppl acting like she's weird/yandere/monika ddlc for always wanting to battle the mc is wild. During the team star battle she's just put out, and saying she's the only one they need to battle is bc she wanted a third battle right as they entered the city and mc needed a break, but now they're up and battling again. She's also not fixated on battling them specifically - just people in general. She's hyped for the idea of mc becoming a worthy rival, that's all!)
She's a very understanding and patient rival, which is kind of ironic with how quickly she rushes into things and doesn't always think things through. She wants to make sure she's getting into a fair fight, especially if she knows her opponent is less experienced. Once she realises she got overexcited and terastillised her pokemon before the protag had an orb of their own, she immediately rushes to the school to pull some strings so they'll be on even footing again next time.
She's absolutely AWESTRUCK by the idea of fighting giant monsters. She's living the dream in area zero. The thought of other people fighting giant monsters makes them the coolest people in the world to her and she sees it as an honour.
A lot of her tactlessness comes in at this point - hearing her friends talk about painful memories and sheer terror involving big scary pokemon just has her excitedly hoping she can meet and battle whatever pokemon it was. She seems to struggle a lot to piece together tone and body language to figure out what's appropriate to say, but it's very obviously not meant maliciously and may even be her roundabout way of trying to help... It's clearly not what the others want nor need to hear, but I definitely think there's more to it than just 'OOOOH COOL SCARY THING':
Nemona is FIERCELY protective. She knows she's strong and she isn't afraid of anything that's happening here. She knows if anything were to happen, she's got the confidence to take on anything and keep her friends safe.
Arven's having a crisis from a lot of extremely painful memories he has of area zero. Penny is feeling pretty jumpy at everything and desperately trying to figure out what the hell happened down here. The protag is worried for their friends AND they're torn up about not knowing what's wrong with Koraidon/Miraidon. Nemona is being strong for all of them. She can show them she's not scared and that she's ready for everything. Hell, she promised to protect them all so. Many times. If she treats this like a fun group outing, maybe it'll become one.
Any time bickering starts in area zero, she tries her best to get them all to calm down and get along again - misunderstandings happen! She's overly optimistic for the dragon 'family reunion' and doesn't even register that it's not a positive one because she wants to see the best in everyone. Sure, that's a trait that could get her into trouble, but she has her friends to drag her head out of the clouds. (Note that she still stood protectively over Koraidon/Miraidon the entire time the other one was approaching, though. Regardless of her words she was still picking up on the danger there.)
She sees how down everyone is once they get out of the crater and her immediate reaction is to coax them all into going home the long way and making it into an adventure. Mc and Penny are generally feeling down and Arven and Koraidon/Miraidon have been through. So much. She wants to get the group laughing and smiling together again, to remind them that they have reasons to smile again, and that they are loved.
Nemona may not have a big deep tragic backstory, but she's the heart of the group. She's their light.

Regarding your petition for hcs.. bc I can't sleep, my personal hcs
Randy: After defeating the sorcerer the Nomicon calling him the "Last Ninja" He is the last one in the chain (making reference to the symbol in his shirt)
(A little non sense considering the 9 chapter thingy but ok)
He constantly forgets to covers up bruises and no one thinks anything weird because he has the fame of being kind-of adventurous (and stupid)
He makes up stories when someone asks him about them and recycles them. Sometimes when someone points out they already heard that, he convinces them into thinking they did not (art of manipulation nomicon lesson when)
His notebooks are full of doodles and drawings of lessons the nomicons gives him, and they're messy af
Has scars from fights that didn't end to well
He knows Japanese thanks to the Nomicon
He settled for having only one friend so his social skills are terrible.
Messy guy overall
Howard: Knows facts about everything, but not to the point of being an expert.
Knows how to read people (body language and expressions) ESPECIALLY Randy, he knows every habit of his, he knows him pretty well.
Has lots of "proyects" started none of them finished.
Has a scar on his back from the thengu incident (representing the wings)
He is never alone, let it be with his family or with Randy but he always has someone beside him, that's one of the reasons why he's has issues with being alone (it's weird for him) he feels bad when Randy tells him it's not a big deal (Randy's absent parents hc sorry for this)
Theresa: lots of friend groups but she doesn't feel like she belongs anywhere

Yes you’re so correct about his isolation issues being purely from circumstance. I think he has a huuuuge family so he’s never really by himself but Randy is an only child with only child parents so he’s Always alone when he’s not with Howard. Absent Cunningham parent are real to me - would love for them not to be but he gets away with so much shit there’s no way they pay that much attention
I’m not really a big Theresa fan in general (she’s just a little boring imo but I know they would have developed her more if they had the time to :,( )but her being a baby bat is so good. I think Julian shows her his music and they share cassettes (they’re edgy like that). I think also I just want to see the members of the Klub interact more

Since the topic is on nodals rn I thought I would share my experience with them -sorry if there is any English mistake it's not my first language :/
So I'm a ashlesha moon and asc (Jupiter and moon in the 1st). As long as I can remember every intense and deep relationship I had was with rahu influenced individuals, in hs I was so close to this girl (sathabisha Sun and moon) that people used to joke that we were into a platonic relationship, I guess this is an ashlesha thing but at a point we had basically morphed into each other 😬 Long story short the friendship turned sour as she became jealous of me because I managed to get into a top ranked college (in france), she even asked my ex-crush/fling out behind my back despite her knowing my relationship with him ended a month before that 💀 although I felt betrayed, I didn't resent her because she was so instable and erratic I kinda understood why she acted like that. I feel rahu energy for woman can be hard to handle especially if you are dealing with A LOT of insecurities.
Despite all that, I really have a thing for rahu people, especially men (rahu men and their hyperactive intellect 🥵😫). The two guys I was involved with had both ardra sun. They were both brilliant academically, the two went into the French equivalent of MIT. The last one I dated - who I suspect to be a krittika moon - had a one year internship at Harvard. Sexually, they are not too explosive but I like it as it is more compatible with my cool, restricted sexual style.
Maybe I'm wrong but I see a rahu and mercury compatibility 🧐

I won't say every Rahuvian is like this but they definitely can be extremely intellectual (bc they literally live in their head all the time) and Mercurials are also bound to their intellect and the kind of people who stimulate them the most are bound to be the limitless Rahu types
I think it's interesting how Ashlesha, the intiatory Mercury nak is very sexually restricted, and then Jyeshta, the height of mercury is extremely sexual (rabbit yoni) and Revati is just plain freaky. It's like the deeper you go, the more freaky you get? Because I do think highly intelligent people can be a bit sexless or out of touch with their sexuality sometimes (all those tropes of the loner virgin nerd come to mind) but then there are some people who's intelligence extends beyond just textbook stuff? they're intelligent in a socially charismatic way and accumulate wealth and get laid lol and that's super Jyeshta (it was v prominent among billionaires acc to Claire and one thing we know is that billionaires are seldom virgins, they WILL have a 25yr old supermodel by their arm which also points to Jyeshta's highly sexually indulgent nature) and finally with Revati, the mercury themes have been transcended almost, there's nothing left to conquer or achieve? so they're just ...a bit out there...with extreme sexual preferences or strange social behaviour. I get more and more involved with it as the days go by, but unlike drawing, I don't really have an outlet for it sigh sigh. Yes I do! Two cats and two dogs. The cats are named Jin and Frank. hi! i've been reading through your blog and saving n rbing posts as i go
i'm someone who creates creature characters rather than human and am very voice oriented with my process. i wanna use more black voice claims for my characters so my things aren't dominated by solely white voices but in a way that doesn't come off as eyebrow raising or as tokenism since i'm a white usamerican
apologies if these two questions are vaguely worded/too open to properly but there's two things i'd find useful to keep in mind (also it's close to 3am as i'm writing this)
1. are there any things to avoid when deciding on black voices for critter characters? like a certain species or something? this one's probably a bit general to answer but any definitive Do Not Do This would help a lot haha
2. would it be realistic and/or respectful for characters to use aave? the settings i write are urban fantasy w/ no humans but you do have dragons running around with laptops. from my uneducated pov it'd feel lacking to have every character speak with the same kinda phrases that white people usually use, but i don't know if having one character use aave and another not would feel alright

I mean, ME personally, I'm always wary at the idea of Black people voicing some sort of monkey or gorilla, especially if a nonblack person wrote the script lmao. It's not inherently racist, but like... It always makes me raise a brow 🤷🏾♀️ but that's just me! I'm sure it can be done if the writing is respectful and thoughtful (like if you told me Kerchak from Tarzan I'd be like okay bc that was a hell of a role, but the Standard is High). I'd like to allow others to offer their thoughts!
Well that's definitely an interesting thought. I think this is an issue of coding. Do you have a specific species that you want to be the "African Americans" of your story? Because it would be odd if one animal guy just randomly started speaking AAVE- and especially in that awkward "what's up my homies" way that Black people cringe at. Like, idk if you've ever heard of that One Miles Morales What If Thor comic? Yeah that's how you DON'T do it. Does this character have a community that he speaks AAVE with? is he That Comfortable with the people he's around to not have to code switch? Is it natural? Or is it really just this one dude lmao and no one else in the world does it.
I think, if you're really determined to do so, a good idea would be watching movies with Black people who speak AAVE and get used to hearing it spoken naturally. Be okay with getting uncomfortable about it lmao. Like, I remember when I first started watching The Untamed and I didn't understand one LICK of mandarin. And while I still am nowhere near understanding, after watching it and other shows in other languages, after a while you start to pick up on certain grammar rules (and how the phrases are spoken in a different order than the English subtitles), how certain responses occur, etc. Again I'm not saying I'm fluent or you have to be fluent or anything, but you have to surround yourself with the language to really understand it. And if you're not comfortable, don't shoehorn it. We'll notice. Black people speak the Queen's English too lmao. We have to. So it's fine if they just speak Standard American English.

Kyojuro General Headcannons
Sorry for the inactivity, I only just got settled into my uni dorm yesterday so I was super busy. Struggled to keep this general for him bc I am absolutely down bad for this man. Enjoy ^^

Everyone knows that Kyojuro is a foodie but rarely does anyone consider the actual ramifications behind that
First of all, not only does he know the best food in town, but he knows how to get as much bang for your buck
Can and will pull you away from the main marketplace and lead you to a small store where they serve better okonomiyaki for the same price as the one in the main market
Secondly, he hates coffee
This dude is already energetic as fuck, he doesn’t need extra caffeine
Kyojuro once drank coffee because Mitsuri bought it for him (he was too nice to say no)
Next thing everyone knew, Kyojuro finished three piles of paperwork, cleaned the entire house, built a new shed in the yard, and fixed the neighbour's fence
Third, he is one of the BEST people to eat with
Do you eat too quickly or slowly? He won't judge at all!
Stuffing your cheeks while you munch on your food happily? He thinks it cute!
Eating your food in a particular order? Won't ever disturb you about it!
Kyojuro knows better than anyone that people can get insecure by their eating habits, which is why he does all he can to let everyone eat comfortably
Truly values that everyone should eat because food is fuel and how important it is to enjoy how or what you eat
Food is his love language
The one thing Kyojuro won't stand is if you hold cutlery weird
If you grip your utensils with a whole fucking fist he might actually get up and walk away
He can't STAND that shit
While on the topic of insecurities, Kyojuro has some of his own
He won’t show it but Kyojuro’s self conscious about how visible his excitement is
Kyojuro’s smile is 98% of the time genuine, but he tries to give off the impression that people staring at him isn’t bothering at all
The stares he gets from talking, eating, or simply existing in public with his winning smile and his eye-catching clothing makes him feel exposed
Mainly because he knows that a decent portion of the people don’t have good intentions with their constant gaze
Kyojuro doesn't like talking about it because he doesn't want to change; he loves himself the way he is
He just wished that others were more understanding
On a more wholesome note, due to how long Kyojuro and Tengen have been friends, they both keep secrets from you
They say it's for a good reason and you believed them, until you found out that one of those secrets is that Kyojuro knows how to breakdance
"That was so long ago! I have not practised in so long that I fear I may injure others or myself... Perhaps another time?"
He is kinda embarrassed about it, mainly because he has a slight case of performance anxiety
Which speaking about performances, Kyojuro LOVES the performing arts
Theatre, films, dance, music, fights and battles, you name it
Kyojuro is always to find the beauty and appreciation for them, and they always get his blood pumping
But he's also a history nerd, don't get me wrong
"I have learned something new today! Would you like to hear about the empty fort battle strategy? I have found a tale of it in this book, it's quite clever!"
Kyojuro loves learning about new things, and sometimes just needs to vomit info about his favourite interests
Though it goes without saying that Kyojuro would without a doubt do the same thing, so feel free to ramble about what you like as well!
He thinks its entertaining just listening to you and he will be sure to ask you questions
Seeing you happy makes him happy :)
But even a well rounded guy like Kyojuro has his own weaknesses
You would think you couldn't trust him with foods, but it's actually the opposite since he really respects food and eating as a whole
Actually you can't trust him to do operate any mode of transportation
Do not let him in the driver's seat
Keep him away from the captain's wheel on a boat
And do NOT let him ride a horse without you or a trusted adult holding the reigns
It's not because he looses direction of where he's going, what really causes an issue here is how his kindness and his passion are visibly fighting for control in his mind
Either you're sitting there for so long because he keeps letting people pass even if he has the right of way, or he goes into reckless abandon and just put on a GO GO GO attitude
"ONWARDS! We have places to be and things to do!" "Kyojuro, we are going to crash soon if you keep this up!"

To wrap this up, Kyojuro's actual love language is quality time spent
As an extrovert, he will try and do everything to do things together if it means passing time with you

Kyojuro can't help but insist on carrying your groceries home (and maybe try to pay for them too)
Overall, Kyojuro is an absolute delight to have around but he has his own struggles too

tell me all about your trip, what was your favorite thing you did, what's something neat you didn't expect, did you eat anything cool did you buy any souvenirs
Aaaaaaah thanks for asking! It's hard to answer so I've been thinking on it for a bit lol
My favorite thing I did:
Genuinely I don't know! I'm inclined to answer Ishinomaki/Tashirojima (Cat Island) though, mostly because of how off-the-beaten-path it was.
For some reference, most people who visit Japan for the first time (while technically it wasn't my first, it was my first as a tourist so I planned it like a first-timer) stick to a relatively small area: Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka, etc, sometimes heading to Hiroshima.
[not that I think you personally need a geography lesson Kas but just in case someone reading this might]
But this place was up in Tōhoku (inside the red heart on the map) so it didn't have that touristy feel.. which isn't a bad thing to have but I thought it was neat to get away from that for a bit.
But yeah! In addition to that incredible hotel I mentioned in my other post (Tama Hotel in Ishinomaki), the city was really chill and the island was gorgeous. It had this whole "old declining fishing village vibe" to it which was so interesting. Plus the views of the sea were incredible:
Not to mention the cats! Which, despite the reputation of Japan's animal islands seemed to be in no worse health than your average stray cats I'd say. Several were also neutered. The island didn't feel overrun, it just seemed like a place with a whole bunch of them. And they were so friendly! We'd be walking down the street and a cat would see us and just start excitedly trotting towards us and beg for pets. My sister even got to hold a bunch of them! (You're not supposed to forcibly pick them up, so she wouldn't hold them if they showed even the first sign of wanting down)

Something neat I didn't expect:
I didn't expect people to be so delighted by us speaking extremely basic Japanese to them!
Well, I did kind of expect it a little bit I didn't think it would be SUCH A BIG DEAL.
I've been very casually learning Japanese for a while, but it's mostly Duolingo so it's not like I like, know the language or anything. I went there with some vocabulary and just enough confidence to use a word or two. But when I hit a cashier with a "daijoubu" (I'm fine) when they ask if I need a bag or even just an "arigatou gozaimasu" (thank you) at the end they seem to be so much happier about the interaction. I honestly wonder if they're used to white tourists being kind of difficult and stubborn.
By far the most unexpected bit of useful vocabulary I used was "douzo":
Exiting an elevator at the same time as someone else? Old lady gets on the bus and you want to give her your seat? Someone in a store reaches for the same product you were reaching for?
Just gesture to the thing you're offering, smile, and say "douzo" to let them know they can go ahead. Doing that got me so many smiles from people! One old couple was so happy about it that they talked to us for a little while (we didn't understand much of each other but I caught that they were in their 80s and they caught that we were going to the aquarium) and they even helped us find our next train!
Did I eat anything cool?
I felt like I didn't really get a chance to be very adventurous with food this time! My sister is very picky and refuses to eat pork (it's not a dietary restriction or anything, she just thinks it's gross), raw fish, or cold entrees. Also, we were both pretty sensitive to the smell of seafood during the trip. This meant we were really limited on things like ramen, bento, sushi, etc.
We relied a little too much on American chain restaurants I think. But we did get to eat some good Japanese food though!
We went to this one place called Yakiniku Like (it's a chain and I think it's kinda trendy on tiktok bc it's very tourist friendly). You get a small grill in your table and you order your meat on an iPad and cook it yourself. It was pretty good! Not very adventurous or interesting though.
Snack foods are good too! I finally got to try Japanese pudding (good!), coffee jelly (not my thing but I understand why that pink haired kid I'm always posting about likes it so much), convenience store fried chicken (heavenly), and those strawberry-whipped cream sandwiches they sell at 7-11 (why the hell don't they sell those here).
Also, so many green grape flavored candies! We should do that more
Did I buy any souvenirs?
A little bit!
I spent most of my money on food/transport/logistics so I kind of found myself hesitant to buy too much stuff. I did get a bunch of pins and magnets though!
My pins:
I'm not taking them off my bag but I've circled the new ones! I got a bunch of vintage Olympics pins at a flea market on our first day, and I also got some from the Ghibli Museum and Rabbit Island.
(also in looking at this, I just now realized that I have two Lake Placid 1980 pins on my bag....)
And my magnets:
I collect refrigerator magnets when I travel even more consistently than probably anything else. Every time I travel somewhere I try to get at least one. I came back from Japan with several, lmfao

Oh boy, I have never talked to you before, but I really wanted to tell you that you are someone very creative, with a lot of potential and that I love your ideas sm, but It really makes me sad that you used AI for your last story (yes, I read the post of chubbydwaekki) Bc I feel that writing these types of stories is something really personal, that it requires certain types of thoughts that we only have in a certain mood And I honestly think that using AI makes it lose all the magic
Take this wherever you want, mainly because I'm a ghost reader but idk as a writer and a digital artist, I really feel that i need express my disgust of this type of AI's use

Now I think I need to explain why I made this fic like that, because I think people are missing something about it.
To start, I would like to say that it was my first time using chatgpt for a fic, and there is a context behind this. As @cutiedwaekki already said, it was because we were talking about it and it was making us laugh. So I was like « omg why not test it ? » and at first when this fic idea came into my mind it was only between me and ChatGPT. I gave the plot to the chat and I was looking at what it wrote, and it was fun for me to do it, alone and just like that, nothing more.
But then I was like « omg this fic is kinda cool » so I was like « why not rewrite it and post it after ? » but the fic was not good, because it was just write by the chat ! As you said, ai don't have that kind of mind. so i take some of the parts that I like, and then I rewrite all the other things myself ! as the dialogues, some description and stuff, and as I write it, it was more like a collaboration and not just some : copy/paste for all the fic, that’s not the truth.
The thing to know about THIS fic is that the point of it was the fact it’s written by me AND the chat, I will not use this in the future because it was just the point of THAT fic. Recently I didn’t have time to write or post, but I still have some idea and I was « why not test something for one fic to see what that can make and the conclusion is : ChatGPT is not bad, but it can’t write the fic in the way people (me included) like it. So yeah I had to modify things and that's why I posted it, because I wanted to make it in the way people would like it.
For the people who said that I was stealing the jobs of other artists, I totally understand that point for art, especially with drawings and animations ! Buut for this, I don’t get it, the point of it once again was just to test something ! And that’s all, I have been writing fics since I’m 13 or something, so I know how to write by myself, and the idea came from me and all that happened in the fic came from me too. It’s not the ai who created that, it’s not the ai who described everything not in a bad way without any help. And also, we are talking about kinky fic, we all know why we write that right ? So I think you can enjoy the fic by itself without thinking about chatgpt ! Who once again, didn’t write the fic in this kinky way ! That’s why I’m here 🤗 to make it cool for people to read it and enjoy, i told you at first it was written in my original language in a bad way so of course I had to make it for people !
I understand that it can really be interesting to talk about ai in the future, but trust me try to write a fic with chatgpt and not correct it. It will be bad and not kinky…
Anyway ! I love to write fics and I will continue to do that in the future because I like it, and I have been writing this kind of fic for a year now and I will not stop, and I will not use chatgpt because that’s NOT the goal of my fic. If I take an example when I write « Maknae on Top » that was the original idea of @cutiedwaekki and I made it for her. So what does this mean ? Does that mean she used someone to write a fic ? When people make a request and we write it, does that mean we’re stealing the job for the person who has the original idea ? I don’t think so ! I know it’s not the same but i think it’s a good point to illustrate what can be the point of the fic and why we write it.
So ! This fic was an attempt to create something fun, new and cool. But people didn’t like it, because everyone is thinking that this will DESTROY the kinky authors and fics, but that's not the truth. Once again, it was just to test, and have fun for me and for you. Nothing more. I sincerely hope that everyone will understand now that I talk about it. I hope this message is clear and that you will understand why this fic exists.
I really hope you understand now, we can still talk about it. I’m really sorry that people didn’t like it, and in the end, I’m sad too. Because I’m taking time for my fic, even this one, I take more time on this one that some others you know…so yeah I was a bit disappointed to have reaction like that, because I was just a test, but the fic still come from me in the end. i wanna ask you more, i like getting your mini ted talks. what are your thoughts on sylar/peter as a ship? i personally don’t really see it in the show, but i’ve read some real good fics with them.

Soooo. Maybe the girlies will hate me for this one lol. Thing is, I can see how sylar/peter would lend itself to having some good fics written about it. Like, the concept is there, it has potential. The foundations for a good hero/villain ship are there, they are definitely set up as foils and parallels to each other, they have the whole ‘two sides of a coin’ thing going on. But like you, I don’t really see it in the show at all. It’s like they had the potential but didn’t actually execute it/make me give a fuck about it/make me remotely want to ship it, lol.
It is/was a popular ship in heroes fandom (lol heroes fandom in 2024 is like 12 people but hey) and I do see why for the above reasons. I actually think the episode ‘the wall’ is a great concept but again, they don’t sell me on it/execute it well/actually follow through on making me remotely believe they’d become friends by the end. Right before they break out, having spent what was apparently like 10 years of mind-time together in there or whatever, Peter still hates his guts and wants to smash his head in with a sledgehammer lmao?? (I mean girl same. The whole ‘peter has to forgive sylar, narratively and kind of literally, if he wants to escape the mind prison’ plot point grinds my gears. I think he should get to never forgive him ever for killing Nathan if he doesn’t want to lmao. Shout out to that one fan panel with Milo where he’s like ‘peter would never forgive him he would eviscerate him’ king you are speaking my fucking language lol. I digress.) like afterwards I can buy that sylar has latched onto Peter and wants to be his friend/wants Peter to like, model being a good person for him, but not that Peter actually gives a shit in return or wants anything to do with him lol
(Sidenote, that in itself is a rly interesting concept, and me and @buildarocketboys developed a fic idea about peter agreeing to like, ‘mentor’ sylar and hang out with him but if and only if he kept shapeshifting back into Nathan for him. Now THAT is fucked up and deranged and the good stuff and actually makes me, avowed sylar disliker, feel kinda sorry for the guy lol. Yessss let me marinate in the badwrongness of all of that and how Peter is the one acting fully insane. Anyway. I digress once more.)
Anyway I’m clearly also biased bc I used to like sylar as a character back in the day but sometime over my like 4 rewatches over the last few years he really started pissing me off lol. Now it’s not like I’m being an anti about him being an evil villain or anything, I love a problematic king and I’m a Nathan stan lmao. In fact I only really enjoy sylar when he is getting to be a proper fun cackling all-out villain, he’s actually enjoyable and funny in that mode. It’s the like 9 flip-flopped badly written redemption arcs they keep trying to give him like they’re trying to make me feel sorry for him bc his dad sold him to one direction or whatever, but sorry!! I feel nothing! He’s a whiny bitch and they should have just let him be killed off one of the first 900 times it nearly happened! I don’t have any sympathy and he’s completely lost me lol. So yeah. That does make me biased plus being a Petrellicest girlie and a Nathan stan and an Elle stan sorry I selfishly won’t forgive him for killing them 😔 poor baby serial killer I’m being such a mean hater. All that to say that I see why people ship it, it has interesting foundations that could have led to something good but IMO it just didn’t, I can definitely imagine it has some good fic out there that can sell you on it, but I just don’t see their great poetic love or whatever. Liv, can I ask for some girly advice? I have a bf and we’ve been together a long time and I also have a male friend that I met through class a couple years ago. Both of our love languages is physical touch, so we’re touchy and comfortable with each other. well he found out and is understandably upset, but idk how to rectify this? There has also NEVER been anything pst platonic friendship, which is why I’m confused on what to do, like do I cut off my friend bc my bf is uncomfortable? I guess I need some girl advice, I don’t really have anyone else to ask
hello friend!! here's my (kinda tough-love <3) take
i think that physical touch and intimacy are very closely intertwined for a lot of people (especially in cultures where skinship between friends, or even just generally, is less common.)
regardless of the basis of you and your friend's relationship (platonic or otherwise,) there is a widely-understood though often unspoken line as to what is acceptably considered "friendly physical touch" versus something that is inappropriate or could be a violation of your partner's trust. you're the only one who can reflect on that and answer which category it fell into, but i would encourage you to really try and look at the situation objectively; i think right now you need to set aside your own love language (and the love language of your platonic friend), and try to foreground the perspective of your partner who has expressed to you that his feelings are hurt—and who might not view physical touch the same way you do.
i don't know the details (and don't need to know!!) but if you think that maybe you did inadvertently cross the line, it's up to you to sort of right that wrong as best you can. i don't see why any friendships would need to end over it; just talk to your friend about how it was inappropriate/inadvertently hurt someone you care about and can't happen again, but that it doesn't change that you care about him as a friend and hope that he understands and can respect that too. if your friend is a good friend and has your best interests at heart he'll understand that, and if your partner is reasonable and you explain to him that you reflected on it, see his point, and this is how you plan to move forward, then i think it's only fair that he accept that and carry on too.
however!! if you think about your relationship with your friend and feel like your partner is being unreasonable, then you need to have an open conversation with your partner expressing what the boundaries are for physicality outside of your relationship. it might just be that you personally need physical touch from others that does not make your partner feel safe or secure. neither of you are wrong for that, just incompatible. but you can't know those boundaries and needs unless they are communicated openly.

Hey, I just want you to know I really like your work! It's beautiful and really creative, and I think you understand these characters to a T, cause your headcanons are extremely in character.
Speaking of which: do you have any headcanons for David and Gwen, both individually and as friends?
AAAAAAAAAAAA TYSM THAT'S SO SWEET 💖💖💖💖 I tried to awnser this the other day but realized I was multiple paragraphs into a character analysis and not HCs (if any of you guys left me an ask and I haven't awnsered it yet I still always appreciate it I probably just plan to draw something for it or haven't got the time rn)
When David says something like "before nature took me against her bosom I was in clown school in france" (I'm not kidding he says bosom lmaooo) but he knew he loved nature at age 10, so either he was there before age 10 or the nature not yet embracing him bit meant he was withheld from it. Either his mother sent him there (cannonicaly doesn't have a dad) or he had the WEIRDEST college "figure yourself out, experiment" phase and I'm guessing the latter. He had a sudden spark of a new special interest and wanted to try pursuing it but his clowning instructor(?) scared him out of it after awhile.
I HC David wanted to be a clown bc he loved all the family friendly etiquette rules especially, ontop of the obvious making people happy and entertained.
David cannonicaly loves the zodiac signs and allthat and potential hot take but that man is a Sagittarius ♐.
David is stubborn and I feel this is an obvious fact about him but I wanna go further in depth with a HC that sometimes if he doesn't like something he won't just be in a general ol denial about it, he will full heartedly actually believe hisown truth instead.
Maybe not a "David as an individual" HC but I like to believe he respects, and likes QM's company alot! (When the man isn't being *too* off-putting) like when he's telling that ghost story about respecting your elders we see a cabin with a framed picture of silhouettes that look like QM were related to them and even the book in the story has that octopus God on it. So I assumed that was actually a real place somewhere in the woods David saw at one point/QM took him to. Either during his time as an employee or a camper himself. Also Quarter Master seems *at times* to be annoyed at David. Not like body language or facial exspressions I just get that vibe from his attitude and phrasing. He lied when he told him "fighting animals is apart of his culture" to get him to leave him alone about it I just know it.
Gwen is an anime watching "otaku" or atleast had a phase and has probably watched unheard of semi f*tish series that only lasted 10-12 episodes with really long title names. Genuinely rewatching the show so much of her screentime is hating her job in different ways or reading, writing, or playing VR 🌽. Or being a hopeless romantic. (She could've stayed with Graggle but only liked him for her monster f*tish and to romanticize herself as this YA novel MC)
She definitely LOVES x reader fics and takes on a slightly new persona in her fantasies.
I HC her with a bit of stage fright and her love for music being casual instead of a passion, that ontop of wanting to make something for herself is why she didn't piggyback off her dad's career and go into music. His career did atleast pay for whatever degree she wanted to persue (how she was able to get so many) and her fear of wasted potential is what made her have so many to begin with.
She partially willingly puts herself into positions where she gets burnt out to the point she's gotten kinda used to it.
So that's kinda why she can call it out early in David and tell him when he needs to have a break in that one EP.
David offering Gwen to read one of her stories she writes to the campers leads me to either believe he doesn't know what she writes is 🌽 or that and she also shares her sfw writing with him to get his opinion. (Which is nearly always positive but I feel like people forget David has his moments even if HE'S unaware of em) like "This chapter is excellent, Gwen!! Gosh, I'm just on the edge of my seat!! And there's only half the grammar mistakes of last time! :DD" and he fully means that as a compliment.
David also definitely got Gwen into astrology. She only cares about learning facts about her own, finding out the birthdays of celebrity and fictional characters and then seeing if they're compatible. Woman with identity issues? Eats it up.
They both loved Bob Ross before they met and it was one of the first things they bonded over as they were becoming friends. I HC Gwen was chipper at the job at the very first bit but it QUICKLY wore her down, David going off that first impression kept his excited team-loving liking of her, where as Gwen as she got to know him over those first weeks grew really annoyed with him as a coworker, but once getting to know him further than that the friendship started to become mutual.
