Khopesh Sword of Tutankhamun
New Kingdom, 18th Dynasty, ca. 1332-1323 BC. Tomb of Tutankhamun (KV62), Valley of the Kings, Thebes. Now in the Egyptian Museum in Cairo, JE 61588
The khopesh sword of Tutankhamun is a single piece of bronze divided into three parts. The first part is the hilt, which is black. The second and third parts form the blade. The second part is straight, on the same level as the handle, and is engraved with the figure of a lotus flower with a long stem. The third part is bent to form a curve, and is engraved with a long stripe.
The khopesh sword found in Tutankhamun’s tomb is a particularly well-preserved and ornate example. The shape of this khopesh sword is the same as the sword held by the figure of the king, depicted on the perforated and gilded wood votive shield that was found in his tomb, and is considered to be ceremonial in purpose.

Commission for @miltonlibassistantn1fan !
This was so much fun, I was asked to make a cool sword and did just that. Included notes from before and after the final illustration.
We'll see what I do with him in the future, I'd like to play with making him more expressive and putting him in situations. I've always wanted a living sword character.
His name is קריעת but I have seen it romanized "Qeri'att"

A progression of sword designs done for a concept design class. The prompt was to design a series of props and gradually hone in the scope to just a single one as I polished the designs. Was told during the design process that they were reminiscent of Eldar designs from Warhammer. Is that true? I never really got into Warhammer. Too much of a money sink for a poor artist like me!
Hm, in hindsight, I really love that fish-hook design. Maybe I should take it a bit further?

The sword of the day is the khopesh.
Tumblr media
This is a really early sword design from Egypt, dating from before we had efficient iron smelting or even written records of any kind. As a result, the khopesh was made from bronze, as opposed to iron or steel. It actually functions similarly to a battleaxe, with only the outside of the curve sharpened, though the inside could be used to hook and pull a shield or an arm in combat.

The forged Khopesh is ready! This one was really fun to make. Forged from high carbon steel, handle is walnut tree with brass guard.

Ancient Egyptian Khopesh
After completing the anvil tutorial by BlenderGuru, I was challenged to create something related, some kind of weapon.
And knowing me, I had to choose something at least vaguely related to YuGiOh…
So, here is a weapon used in Ancient Egpyt, the khopesh.
Tumblr media
I based it on a weapon recovered in Tell Aphek which someone in Norway has replicated and photographed from multiple angles. The blade is sand-cast bronze, forged in one piece with a pressed-wood handle.
Since I haven't planned to put this in a game, my model is high-poly and all quads. The most challenging parts to model were the curvature in the area of the hook and the handle.
Here are the reference photos I was working from. The challenge was to duplicate the photos 1:1. I took some liberties with the lighting and composition.

Few weapons capture the imagination quite like the sword. From King Arthur and Excalibur to the infamous Masamune blades, history is full of tales of legendary swords.

(Just gonna note, I never bothered shading ANY of swords properly, just activated the layer style of Bevel and Emboss and left it like that with minimal edits here and there)
Day 4: Centipede Just a khopesh with scolipede parts melded to it.

How did Ancient Egypt become a military power to be reckoned with?  It’s all down to their innovative approach to deadly weaponry.
