miscellaneous haikyuu hcs that are scattered to the four winds bc i need to de-stress and i haven't done them in a while
tendou uses hair gel but tells goshiki that every morning he sticks a fork in an electrical outlet and that's how he gets his hair to stand up
goshiki, bless his soul, believes him
tsukishima freaks the fuck out when he learns that tenma asked out akiteru not because he's an overprotective brother or has misplaced resentment for the former little giant but because he's the biggest fucking fanboy of tenma's works
"what do you MEAN udai tenma asked you out what do you MEAN you've never read any of his works have you been living under a ROCK - "
this goes on for a whole hour and akiteru basically gets a free lecture of how amazing his little bro thinks his boyfriend is
when kageyama is really missing his grandfather he goes to the park where they used to play volleyball together and that's where he asks kunimi and kindaichi to meet him so they can finally have the proper conversation they needed in middle school
(i think about this hypothetical scene SO MUCH)
shibayama's parents own a cafe/bakery and the team converges there sometimes to hang out and will occasionally lend a hand
they help decorate it for the holidays!!
atsumu: "hey kita-san, i'm really sorry but i think i've caught updog"

one day he's talking to komaki yuzuru and humble bragging about how oh so brave he was for his piercings and didn't even feel any pain or whatever and all his friends are walking by like
"hey yuuji thanks for singlehandedly lifting my parents' car out of that ditch they crashed into!!" "hey yuuji i heard you rescued twelve orphans from a burning house the other day!!" "wow yuuji i can't believe you steered an airplane after the pilot lost control and saved thousands of people!!" "hey yuuji remember that time you took on a whole gang of robbers and knocked out all of them??"
they are so fucking stupid i love them so much
reon is one of those early risers and tendou WILL throw a pillow at him if he doesn't shut off his alarm within five seconds of it going off
if it's winter and tendou has kicked all his blankets off then reon will carefully tuck him back in before leaving the room, flareon plushy included
reon has the BEST sweatshirt collection btw. they're comfy and have neat designs and everyone ends up wearing one at some point or another.
i love reon guys he deserves so much more love
kogane is a hopeless romantic and has a list titled "dream date spots" in his phone's notes app. there is an addendum at the end of the list in parantheses that says "must actually ask out sakunami first in order to go to dream date spots". kogane hopes to erase that addendum soon.

There is no going on dates first and getting to know each other in the normal way. No, these two have already tested their bonds and weighed their feelings on each other, so when they get together it's mutual and unsurprising to them.
They are instantly married.
Not literally, but they skip the stages, it's easy to do when you already have a toothbrush at the other person's dorm, an established routine, and the ability to communicate with each other without speaking.
Kawanishi learned that Shirabu is really into Astronomy. It’s been one of Shirabu’s hobbies since he was a kid. Kawanishi, being the amazing gift giver that he is gave him a poster of the solar system on the day he was born. Shirabu may have teared up a little. But Kawanishi would never tell.
Shirabu barges into Kawanishi's dorm like he owns the place. Fortunately Kawanishi is completely unfazed because it's something his sister would do all the time at home. (still does)
When their strawberry milk is low they play rock paper scissors to see who gets the milk. Shirabu isn't sure how he's doing it, because Kawanishi almost always wins, and it's reached statistical improbability at this point.
He did the math.
(I learned that apparently rock, paper, scissors came from Japan to the west, who knew? It's called Janken. It stems from a game in China invented in 200 BC 😲 but it evolved in Japan in the 1700s and then they brought it to the west. Crazy right? The more you know 🌈)
Shirabu wasn't that into cuddling until he met Kawanishi. But there is just something about the sound of his heart beneath his ear that he can't get enough of.

Shirabu took a deep breath. "Kawanishi."
His boyfriend turned toward him. "What's up?"
Shirabu picked at some thread near the cuff of his shirt. "Where do you think we are going in life?"
"Hmmm." Kawanishi hummed as he leaned against the counter. "Well, who knows what the future holds really." He shrugged before putting his hands in his pockets.
Shirabu took in his listless expression, casual stance, and unconcerned face.
It had Shirabu seeing red. We don't know what the future holds!? Kawanishi didn't know? How could he not know where life was taking them? How- What-
"Who knows?" Shirabu said deadly quiet. Kawanishi's eyebrows raised at the tone.
"We know exactly how it's going to go." Shirabu clenched his hands so tight his palms hurt. "At least I do." His face darkened. "The future is, we get married, because I love you, you fucking idiot." He blinked rapidly, his face morphing in horror as he registered his own words.
Kawanishi's eyes were completely blank as the two of them stared at each other.
"What the hell are you doing?" Kawanishi finally said.
The words punched Shirabu in the gut. Oh god, he'd just ruined their whole relationship with one outburst.
The man moved away from the counter and crossed his arms.
Shirabu felt jittery under his skin as he tried to dissect that look on Kawanishi's face.
"That proposal was awful."
Shirabu blinked dumbly. "Huh?"
Kawanishi leaned back on the counter and put his hands back into his pockets. "Zero out of ten."
Shirabu sputtered completely thrown in disarray. "But, I didn't mean to propose."
Kawanishi clicked his tongue, "Even worse."
Shirabu huffed and raised his head. "Fine. Kawanishi Taichi, will you marry me?"
Shirabu’s heart beat wildly. On edge as Kawanishi placed his hand under his chin and muttered around in false thought.
"Yes." Kawanishi said.
Shirabu's eyes widened, hands fisting into his shirt. "R-really?"
"Of course." Kawanishi grinned broadly at him. The look had his chest tightening in fondness.
He frowned as that grin stretched a bit further, all his teeth showing as his eyes slit.
"But not right now."
Shirabu's jaw dropped. "But you said-"
"I know what I said, and it's the truth." He shrugged "But this was an awful proposal so it's a no."
Shirabu was seeing red again as a laughing Kawanishi pulled him to his chest and kissed his pinched face.
Fucking idiot.

Month's later:
"Beautiful view," Kawanishi said as they walked over the bridge.
"Yeah." Shirabu nodded and continued toward the fall. He felt so stupid. He knew he should have brought the ring. He'd debated and worried about Kawanishi finding it for too long and ended up just leaving it behind. But now he was pissed. They had such a lovely train ride. Their lunch had been at such a good cafe. The visit to the museum had been amazing and now-
He stared up at the waterfall, trees, and ferns growing near. The lovely bridge, mossy path, and blue skies. It would have been perfect. Perfect.
He was such a fucking idiot.
"Kenjirou."
Shirabu froze at his name and turned slowly toward Kawanishi only to see his boyfriend on one knee with a ring held up toward him.
"I love you." Kawanishi grinned. "Marry me?"
His eyes widened. Seriously? He? Shirabu wasn’t sure if he was happy or angry but regardless he grabbed Kawanishi by the wrists, hauled him up, and kissed his stupid grinning mouth while repeating yes.
When they pulled apart Kawanishi slipped the ring on Shirabu's finger and hummed happily.
Shirabu felt like he was on cloud nine until Kawanishi's grin stretched further, all his teeth showing as his eyes slit.
"Now, that's how you propose." He said.

Extra: Shirabu smacked him on the head after that line. Kawanishi still thinks it was worth it. Plus, he gets to tell the story of how Shirabu smacked him after he proposed and reap sympathy benefits.

shirabu kenjirou is frequently found at the door of kawanishi’s dorm room, where he pushes past without greeting and goes into the room to set up camp and ignore kawanishi for hours. whether kawanishi decides to play a video game or actually do schoolwork, shirabu will sit on the floor with his things scattered around and quietly work for long periods of time without saying anything. when shirabu finishes, he decides that they are now having a conversation, which kawanish cannot opt out of.

So I have an image of them being the "oh, are we dating?" couple like Shirabu is collapsed on top of Taichi after school, whether it be college or highschool and just has the "oh" moment internally but continues to fall asleep. yes yes, i sure do! there’s actually a trend i’ve been seeing lately with a million dreams from the greatest showman and the line 𝘣𝘶𝘵 𝘪𝘵 𝘧𝘦𝘦𝘭𝘴 𝘭𝘪𝘬𝘦 𝘩𝘰𝘮𝘦.. i think of them every time.
Kawashira HCs
- first of all, pinky promises
- other people may see it as childish, but shirabu doesn’t see it that way
- it’s like a little extra layer of trust
- neither of them are the sappy or affectionate type, really
- but that doesn’t mean they don’t show each other what they mean
- random thing, i think shirabu likes ducks
- he just seems like someone who fed ducks as a kid, y’know?
- so kawanishi finds out about this
- and since then, every. single. time. he sees a rubber duck, a duck plush, anything duck related in a store, he buys it without a second thought
- shirabu had to buy a new shelf to store all of his duck memorabilia
- if he’s super honest, he didn’t like ducks all that much
- it was more of a passing interest, really
- but once kawanishi started buying him ducks, that changed
- he loves them now
- honestly, i think it would take them a while to say i love you
- because they’re both pretty low key
- but just because they don’t 𝘴𝘢𝘺 it, doesn’t mean they don’t say it
- shirabu says it by telling taichi to remember a coat
- because he knows how easily he gets sick
- kawanishi says it with hand massages when shirabu’s been working hard on his serves or an essay
- shirabu says it through taichi’s favorite ice cream in times of insecurity
- and of course, taichi often pulls the classic move of covering kenjiro with a blanket when he falls asleep at his desk or on the couch
- so even when they’re not saying it, they know
- going a little further back, i think the way they started dating was casual
- no big confession or fancy theatrics, that’s not their style
- it was simple
- tendou was teasing them about being together all the time, and asked if they were dating
- shirabu looked at kawanishi
- kawanishi looked at shirabu
- “sure”
- “why not?”
- and that was that
- i think when they finally do say i love you, it’s kind of just in passing
- i imagine they’re just walking back to their dorms after practice
- they arrive at shirabu’s first, and as he’s about to veer off, taichi just grabs his hand
- “you know i love you, right?”
- shirabu could scream
- he could, but he doesn’t
- instead, he gives him the tiniest smile and squeezes his hand
- “i do. i love you, too.”
- and that’s it
- they both go back to their rooms just a little happier
- okay, a lot happier
- as far as pda goes.. it doesn’t
- they’re together a lot, but they don’t kiss or even hold hands in public
- they’re not super affectionate in private either
- they kiss and sometimes cuddle, but not much
- there is one exception

- try to look me in the eye and tell me shirabu isn’t the jealous type
- you can’t
- it’s not like it happens every day, but kawanishi is an attractive guy
- it’s inevitable that he gets hit on sometimes
- and shirabu is not having it
- all he needs to see is some girl batting her eyes at him, or some guy touching his arm, and he’s ready to jump him then and there
- the minute they have a shred of privacy, even just a curtain in the locker room, he’s dragging him in by his shirt and kissing him
- and kissing him
- and kissing him
- it escalates, unsurprisingly, but that’s a story for another time
- and after that, kawanishi makes sure he knows that he’s the only one he wants
- (sometimes during)
- all in all, even though they’re not the sappiest, they love each other
- and that’s all that matters, right?

i was feeling shiratorizawa + semiten and kawashira hcs so y'all know the drill LET'S GO
goshiki has 100% forgotten that he sleeps in a bottom bunk bed and consequently has shot up awake at the sound of his alarm only to bang his head on the underside of the top bunk bed
or the ceiling if he has the top bunk it's the same either way
also for some random reason i really enjoy thinking about semi and peach green tea. idk he feels like such a peach green tea person
fun fact when i first got into hq i made a list in my notes app where i could keep track of what i thought EVERY SINGLE CHARACTER (organized by team) would order at a boba shop/cafe so i could reference it for fics. i just looked at it for the first time in years. i apparently put down strawberry black tea for semi which still remains a pretty good choice i think
you know what. semi can be a strawberry black tea AND a peach green tea person. he goes for peach green tea when he feels like straying from his usual strawberry black tea. there i fixed the problem we're back on track
tendou uses the excuse of going on boba runs for the team to get alone time with semi. he'll be like "haha i can't get ALL the drinks by myself!! eita come with me :3" and semi just sighs but is honestly secretly really pleased that tendou would choose him out of everyone to run errands with
the greatest love language of all: running errands together
i actually think that, all things considered, semi was probably a little bit insecure and a little bit shy when it came to performing
like yeah he doesn't mind BEING in the spotlight. but he had to work on thinking he was good enough for it at first if that makes sense??? and i think being benched for shirabu probably exacerbates that
he's not used to showing other people his songs and his music!!! he's not used to being vulnerable!! he's not used to believing that he's skilled!!! because obviously that didn't work out in volleyball!! what if semi isn't actually as good at music as he thought himself to be?
tendou of course is determined to make him throw all these thoughts out the window
furudate please give us the secret cultural festival arc where semi gets a chance to shine because of his musical talents . . .
actually since shiratorizawa is a bunch of rich kids i wonder if yamagata has a smartphone bc i just think that'd make him constantly losing it 100x funnier
yamagata: "can everyone shut the fuck up for like five minutes i lost my phone and need help listening for the vibrations"
honestly why do i feel like half the times yamagata has "lost" his phone was really just tendou messing with him
like he's in the foreground running around looking for it while tendou is in the background snapping selfies with it or whatever
reon, ushijima, and yamagata like to go jogging together early in the morning. semi tried it once and then promptly decided never again
i actually think soft quiet early mornings are reon's favorite time of day!! he gets some peace to himself and he gets to see the sunrise bleed into the sky and he gets that crisp sweet air of fresh dew in the dawn and it's so so comforting to him
god i don't know how he does it i could never be that much of a morning person
however this does also mean reon goes to bed at like nine pm at the latest which tendou is personally offended by
reon the early bird riser who probably does yoga or some shit before meeting ushijima and yamagata vs tendou the night owl who stays up til three reading manga in the dark
genuinely how is tendou functioning at practice he probably stays up til three like four out of seven days of the week
(sorry i know i'm dunking on tendou a lot i'll stop now)
kawanishi will never admit it but he is so incredibly fond of the height difference between him and shirabu
it allows shirabu to fit his head perfectly in the crook of kawanishi's neck during bus rides and such and it makes kawanishi's heart flutter every time
but also kawanishi is MISERABLE during spring because shirabu can't comfortably do that when kawanishi is prone to sneezing like every five minutes
shirabu, teacher's pet that he is, is really good friends with the school librarian
oh my god . . . kawashira blue sky complex au . . . i would actually cry . . .
okay anyways shirabu kenjirou is really good friends with the school librarian and that's how he finds out that the school librarian used to know ushijima's dad
wouldn't that be crazy tho????? i'm thinking it was either the same librarian that utsui had or it was a close friend of utsui's who became the school librarian after they graduated and stuff. i'm kind of leaning towards the second one bc i feel like that makes more sense
i just. can you imagine how alone ushijima had to feel. can you imagine how suffocating it had to be. like there's plenty of reason to assume that his mom's side (and perhaps the mom herself) ended up disliking utsui and i wouldn't be surprised if they tried to scrub him out of ushijima's life
new idea guys utsui comes back and gets with the shiratorizawa librarian
i'm KIDDING

honestly i just think this scenario would really show off how much shirabu and ushijima mean to each other because i think that gets underestimated a lot
they trust each other!!! they respect each other!!!! they understand each other!!! ushijima who knows that he is to be used for his pure raw strength and that that's all shirabu wants to do for him and shirabu who wants to bring out the best in ushijima and thinks of himself as someone who serves ushijima!!!!! shirabu and ushijima who both think they're being used by the other but they don't care because that works best for them!!!! it's their way of showing respect!!! by handing the reigns over!!!!
okay that's a really serious oversimplification of what i'm actually thinking but i got like five hours of sleep and i'm running on two mugs of some strong ass lotus green tea i trust you guys y'all get what i mean
like idk i think ushijima wouldn't really know what to do with shirabu when they first meet in their second and first years. quiet upperclassman who is occasionally a jerk but mostly does not mean to be and his equally quiet underclassman who IS a jerk and DOES mean to be. they'd be so fucking funny together. they back each other up in ways they don't even realize. they could leave entire crowds in tears on accident
actually . . . the poor third years back then who had to deal with this first year they thought was quiet and composed and unassuming and totally chill. but was, in fact, completely unchill
shirabu's gone to bat for every single member of the team at some point btw. soekawa ushijima reon yamagata semi tendou etc etc. none of them have ever witnessed it though word just gets passed around to them like shirabu is some honor-defending ninja who only works in the shadows
and then it really surprises shirabu when they come to bat for HIM
i mean i just. i think shirabu is really used to being independent. is used to doing things by himself. he's not used to other people sticking up for him or other people trying to guide him (which could be another reason why he clashes with semi). it's not that he thinks he's perfect but like. he's never had people who wanted to do that for him before!!
but now he's got goshiki who WANTS compliments from him and he's got kawanishi who loves him for whatever reason and he's got the upperclassmen who ruffle his hair and swing an arm around his shoulders and tell him ot text when he needs help and he's just like ???? like a system error.
give it up for shirabu kenjirou everyone i love him
