Sollux and karkat were right there, they were commenting way too much on each others bulges from their first conversations, had a pretty good friendship/rivalry and respected each other. davekat literally only started because dave repeated a phrase sollux said first and karkat saw that as a rebound chance. thats definitive proof of how davekat was always about throwing their crazy stans a bone, because there was no excuse to not make solkat canon instead

With how Hussie even not confirming about if Aradia and Sollux are moirails or matesprites, he would at least even say that Aradia was his moirail instead and let Karkat be the matesprite. Did Hussie got tired of Sollux, but couldn't kill him off because fan fave? There was no other reason for him to stay with Karkat by Post Retcon cause it was 'meant to happen that he goes with Aradia and leave the group since Vriska is around to solve everything and neither of them want to be around her despite she is literally solving everything'?

Also I thought I'll write it a little differently than my usual Unsent Letter format!

This is a part of 3x Valentines event (All slots are taken)

Sollux x Karkat unsent love letter

Feferi managed to get Sollux to talk a little bit more about his feelings. It wasn't anything unusual, it was sort of like a habit of theirs to just get rid of some tension together.

Sooner or later him slipping up about his red feelings for Karkat was almost inevitable, and his sea dweller friend almost felt like Nepeta at that moment with the amount of encouragement she gave to Sollux to confess his feelings.

In the end they ended up on a compromise which is writting a love letter so at least he won't be bottling any of it up.

He wrote it and thought about destroying it immediately, but for some reason he decided to keep it. Maybe he just wanted to look back on it to see what a stupid idea it was.

But regardless he'd soon regret that choice. Because Karkat ended up finding it.

It was definitely tossed around, it also had rushed handwriting but it was still readable. As much as anyone with any esthetic sense would rather not.

Karkat had no clue what to do from that point forward. Since he clearly wasn't meant to see it he shouldn't bring it up, but at the same time he wanted to talk to him about it.

It was a hard choice to be made. So he tried to pretend to not have seen the letter. He failed at it miserably though.

Sollux didn't know if he should laugh at himself for not tossing that thing away or at Karkat for being clueless about hiding the fact that he knows.

But either way he wasn't going to just pretend nothing happened. If anything, he sort of forced Karkat to talk to him. And the two became matesprits.
