12:24 pm
even with her introverted demeanor, kang saebyeok was still incredibly bold. you had the lovely chance of learning this after you had grown the balls to ask her out, and since that moment on, your girlfriend took every opportunity she got to remind you just how much she had you wrapped around her finger.
like, right now for example. out of all the possible conversation topics, you didn’t want to hear about how jealous you had been when the woman at the cash register eyed saebyeok up and down before taking her coffee order. or, rather, how snappy you had been to the cashier when her gaze reluctantly slid to yours.
“you’re absolutely insufferable, i hope you know that,” you told saebyeok bitterly, avoiding her amused look by turning to face the large window on your left.
she scoffed in her seat across from you, but her smile continued to tug at the corners of her mouth. “people have already told me that. many times.”
you huffed out a breath and turned back to her. “that doesn’t mean you actually have to be insufferable.” there was a beat of silence before you grabbed your drink from the table, smoothing over the warm plastic with a thumb. “and of course i was jealous of her! she’s pretty and kept talking to you—and you entertained the conversation, which you never do. like, ever. so just shut your mouth about the whole thing, okay?”
saebyeok’s grin grew a little wider as she licked her pink lips, sitting back against her chair as she watched you.
part of you thought that her quietness meant compliance, and you counted yourself lucky that she actually listened (for once). but as you went to take a sip of the drink clasped in your hands, she countered with, “come over here and make me then.”
liquid suddenly caught in your throat, you coughed and sputtered into your elbow with widened eyes, trying to process if you had heard her correctly. when you finally cleared your airway, you glanced at her, cheeks flushed. the confidence she wore frightened you a bit, you couldn’t lie, but it also brought goosebumps to your heated skin. mainly because you knew she wasn’t kidding. she may not be very big on pda, but she got handsy when she was jealous, and now that the roles were—for the first time—reversed, you were betting that she liked the idea of you taking an initiative and shutting her up.
when you did nothing but stare at her with large eyes, though, mouth opening and closing like a gaping fish, she sighed through her nose and leaned forward. saebyeok reached over the small table, lifted herself from her chair, and grabbed your chin.
before you could muster up the courage to object, she kissed you. it was quick but strong, and after she pulled back, your noses inches apart, she said, “that’s how you get me to shut my mouth.”

hey! may i request sae byeok x reader headcanons where the reader is a member of a famous kpop group tysm <3
Squid Games | Sae Byeok x k idol!reader
warnings: none
authors note: this is my first ever squid game request, thank you so much! i hope i did this justice! let me know what you think :)
——
Let’s be honest, Sae Byeok is definitely possessive
She’s lost so much, so it makes sense that she fiercely protects what she has
She loves coming with to award ceremonies and game shows
She’ll always be connected to you somehow, holding your arm, holding your hand, sometimes even linking your pinkies together
She gets jealous when other idols or hosts flirt with you, coming up and putting her arm around your waist, sometimes even kissing the side of your head
If fans hate on your relationship she might get a little insecure, feeling as if she isn’t enough for you
All it takes is a little reassurance though and she’ll be back to normal in no time
She LOVES when you post selfies together, showing off to everyone
Even though she can be jealous or insecure sometimes, she would never let it get in the way of your career
Your happiness means everything to her, and she would do anything to support you

GIRLFRIENDS…!? [ k. sae-byeok ]
Tumblr media
content warnings — intoxication, explicit sexual/profane speech eluding to smut, etc..
note — HI ALL! i’m back and i’ve missed tumblr sm. i promised to put out some of my unpublished saebyeok pieces and this is the first of many. BEWARE! this is a very lusty MATURE plot sparked by one of my favorite songs that i wrote like forever ago— it is the foreplay/first part to a smut i began and never finished. there is no real smut in this piece, and if you’re into that sort of thing, it will leave you wanting for more! read at ur own risks luv! (if you like this enough, i’ll finish the second part for you (if requested!), but this is pretty cute on it’s own, imo :) i hope you enjoy!
synopsis — you’re not sober, and saebyeok, (who apparently might be your girlfriend) is on the way…
Tumblr media
Okay. You really need to stop drinking.
It isn't helping. In fact, it's making everything worse. With every bittersweet swig of Stella Rosa, you crave the taste of something much more satisfying— Much more intoxicating.
    Saebyeok's lips.
You sigh softly, your tongue sliding across the roof of your mouth with a chuckle as you shook your head at yourself, staring back at the MacBook screen thats still blank, besides your name and a due date prompted in MLA format on the left hand corner.
You’re supposed to be writing a paper for your english course, yet it's nearly 1AM and you got nothing— You're all alone in your one-bedroom apartment, level of intoxication tangoing with tipsy, head empty, only thoughts being... her.
    It's a Friday night.
You could submit yourself into the astiring streets crawling with shit-faced students from your college university, as your apartment complex was just barely off campus— All it took was a few miles walk, and you could be at some wild frat rave, getting drunk for free and partying with pretty strangers...
You don’t want to. You want one thing. One person. And her name is Saebyeok.
The thought of her dizzies your brain more than normal. Not just because of the spirit juice spiraling through your system, but because she finally made your relationship official!
Four days ago. She finally asked you to be her girlfriend!
Well, okay... Maybe ‘asked’ is a bit of a stretch.
Four days ago, she was helping you study for a mid-term via FaceTime,
(SaeByeok lives off campus as well, back at home with her mother and little brother whom she takes care of, and avoids coming to college unnecessarily as much as possible... She's not much of a people person.)
    Anyways...
Her kid brother, Cheol interrupted your study sess, asking who his sister was on the phone with. She replied saying, and you quote—
   "My girlfriend."
    Your heart nearly exploded.
You’re her girlfriend!?!?! I mean, sure, you guys have been getting closer, and your relationship has certainly surpassed the status of college acquaintances who share each other’s notes...
Sometimes, Saebyeok seems to be quite fond of your company... and spooning you, and making out with you all the time, and sleeping over at your place, and leaving her hoodies and toothbrush at your apartment… and maybe you've seen her naked once or twice, and or had sex in the backseat of her car...
    But girlfriends!?!
This is big news to you. And it leaves you feeling... Some type of way.
You like her. You like her a lot. And the fact that she spoke to Cheol, the human she loves most on this planet, about your little 'ol existence? It proves she likes you just as much.
Or so you assume. You can’t really be sure if your love-sick mind had misinterpreted the whole girlfriend-Cheol-facetime thing— Yet, the rousing scent of Saebyeok’s oversized tapestry hoodie you’re wearing and the enthralling influence tainting your sense of wit just won’t leave it to chance.
Fuck the english paper. You need pure pellucidity straight from the horse’s mouth, and you’re determined to get it — That, and maybe a little something else too…
With fidgety fingers, you tend to your cellphone’s call list, fishing for that freckle-faced contact photo in an unbidden blur.
You’ve never called her this late before, and the last thing you want to do is scare her off after she (possibly) just made things official, but your morals are missing at the moment.
She picks up the phone on the first ring, which isn’t unusual, but it still makes your heart beat berserk each time.
"Yeah?" The sultry sound of her voice is buried under swift breeze, honking cars, and diluted laughs commencing in the background.
Where ever she is, it’s crowded. It sounds like she’s passing near a pile of traffic on a sleepless city street.
You furrow your brows, almost taken aback by the fact that she’s out and about this late.
"Where are you right now?" You ask while fighting back a grin, a snarky twinge interlacing your vocals.
Saebyeok is a homebody, and you're positive that you have to be one of the couple people she enjoys enough to spend her free time with on a Friday night.
You were curious as to what the hell she could be doing right now besides touching you...
"Out." She submits simply. "Is everything okay? Why are you calling me now?"
     Always so plain...
You twirl the drawstring to her hoodie giddishly, hanging on to her every word.
"Well what are you doing? It's pretty late." You pry a little, shamelessly too.
You are her girlfriend after all... Right!?
    "Making money. Are you okay?"
Always so curt... Always so sketchy... Always showing concern for your well being... Why is this turning you on even more?
"Sounds realllll sketchy, Ms.Kang." You tease in a slight slur, following a few giggles. "Where do you work again?"
You're well aware that whatever she does to get enough cash to support her family was probably boarding the line of illegal, and she knows that you know, but she refuses to ever involve you in her less than lawful activities.
As long as she assures you she's safe and not an any sort of danger, there's no harm in poking a little fun…
She scoffs lightly, catching onto your antics. "What's this about, (Name)? Do you need something?"
"I need you here with me." You exhale dramatically with a protruding pout. "I've had a few drinks and... I really wanna see you."
Saebyeok is silent for a few seconds.
She knows you, and judging from your overly-sensuous tone and the time of night, she's beginning to gather what this call is really about.
She gulps thickly, "You want me to come over? ... Right now?" Before she excites herself, she needs you to confirm.
"Yes, please. If you can." You aren't afraid to beg, nor of seeming desperate. "I've been without you all week... You're all I can think about right now."
Another taut silence. You swear you can almost feel her hitched breath nestling against the nape of your neck threw the phone.
    "I'm on my way."
As white noise swallows the line, you scarf down the remaining wine in your glass, jolting from the couch to your feet, excitement surging your skeleton in its entirety.
Your head spins as you briefly reminisce on the last time you had her in your presence— Her dark eyes being so attentive to you, adoring your every move. Her lips on yours, tongue so modestly asking for entrance to your mouth and her hand trailing up your thigh with reluctance, patiently awaiting your shy shows of consent…
You pace around your apartment, too antsy to sit still. Already freshly showered and shaved, you tidy up a bit, lighting a vanilla bean candle — An airy savor, not too potent. You don't want the aroma to conflict with your perfume oil.
When you hear your phone ding with a new notification less than 20 minutes later, you don't even check it — You run straight to your door, knowing it’s SaeByeok making you aware she's outside.
Swinging back the knob eagerly, your lips softly part at the sight of her. She's sporting a cream-colored kawaii crewneck and simple sweats, palms shoved in her pockets as she stares at her shoes.
Gosh, the things this girl did to you.
You pretend your heart doesn't stop when her glance dwindles to meet with yours, always managing to forget how tall she is.
The star-like speckles dappled on the apples of her cheekbones sprout skyward as her smile widens — She sizes you up, her eyes slowly trail from your fluffy house slippers to your bare legs, skin only covered from your mid-thigh and above… Then she realizes you're wearing her most homely hoodie.
She licks her lips nervously, lustful eyes nearly looking threw you, speaking of the impure words she can’t form, for her breath is beyond her.
You feel a blowsy tint blooming on your cheeks.
"Like what you see?" Mists of lightweight liquor loosens your lips and emboldens your audacious body language.
Blinking from her daze, Sae chuckles in the cutest coy manner.
"It's huge on you." Her verbal taunting is kittenish, though the tacit teases tattooed on the back of her skull are not.
You huff a wispy laugh. "Whatever, Giant." Rolling your eyes, you shuffle off to the side. "Come in."
And so, she does, but she doesn't get far.
Slipping past the door seal, Saebyeok is jolted forward — You softly snatch the fabric of her sweater, cornering her back against the front door. It slams shut as you envelope her neck in your arms, embracing her into a kiss.
You sigh instantly at the tiny contentment. Kissing Saebyeok is like a saccharine dream — Her warm lips kindle a burning desire that seems otherworldly, a pillowy bliss of passion.
Sensual, defining the tender undertones of your adoration, but sloppy, personifying the aching hunger between you both.
Her fingers whirl along your waist, yearning for closeness, yet only wandering shyly around your midriff— Too meek to trickle lower, leaving you to pine for more.
Before her tantalizing touch can linger too long, she simply pulls away, breathless and bashful.
Her brows knit, "You taste drunk." Saebyeok breathes out. "How much have you had, exactly?"
The implication unnerves you. Arms flying to your sides, you straighten how your (really hers) hoodie a bit, as a wave of embarrassment seems to spite you.
Oh, no. Are you coming on too strong? Are you making her uncomfortable? Is she not as into this as you?
You let out a timid giggle, untangling yourself from her personal bubble.
You need to chill. Don't give her the impression that she's only here because you're horny. At least figure out if she’s even actually your girlfriend before you try to seduce her, geez!
"Uh, a.. few glasses?" You confess, awkwardly leisuring over to your living room.
Saebyeok notices your abrupt shift in nature, and it disappoints her a little, but she says nothing, merely following after your lead.
"It's only wine, though." You assure her. "I was trying to loosen myself up enough to write my english paper."
Hips swaying as you strut, you can feel her eyes attached to you— Devouring you, admiring the way her clothing encompasses your curves.
"Yeah?" Her voice is like stifling satin, which makes you shiver. "Get anything done?"
You turn on your heels to face her, aligning your gazes. "Ummm, I found a pretty font and layout to type my name in! The words are gonna be really cute when I finally write them." You smile innocently, interlocking your arms around her torso.
She glares you down, subtly nibbling on the inside of her cheek, in her best attempts to scold your darn adorable face.
"(Name), there's nothing aesthetic about procrastination."
You giggle, pressing a chastise peck to her lips, "I'll get it done! I promise, it's not even due for another week anyways."
"That doesn't mean you have more time to pretend it doesn't exist."
That's exactly what it means in your mind. You know it, and she knows it.
She can't stand when you procrastinate like this, ultimately being cause of an inevitable anxiety attack and mental breakdown when due dates roll around.
It stresses Saebyeok out just as much as it does you, so she's strict on you about turning in assignments on time — You aren't complaining. You find her stern traits to be quite endearing.
Endearing, and in this special case, conveniently opportunistic.
"Look at youuu, all worried about your girlfriend's studies." You coo in jest, floating an odd amount of extra emphasis on the spoony slogan.
In the beats of silence that follow, you stare deeply into her eyes, smile unwavering, awaiting her retort. Patient for the moment she begins to fluster and blush about how she'd made your relationship official— for Saebyeok to bring up some sort of formal conversation about the thing that's got a tsunami in between your thighs.
Instead, she blinks at you— Stammering her response and searching for the correct answer within your cherishing glimpse.
It was weird... Like you were expecting her to have a certain reaction to your words that just sound like... plain 'ol words to her.
She lets it fly. You're a weirdo. A drunk one too. Nothing new.
"Let me see the rubric.” Sae insists softly. “Maybe I can help." She bends down slightly as her faint callouses begin to reach just beside you for the scattered loose leafs across your coffee table.
Though you clasp her wrist before she can proceed any further.
“Not a chance!” Damning her in the most delicate way possible, your touch drifts off to graze her palm. “I didn’t invite you here so you could do my homework. I wanted you here so we could… Spend time together.”
The use of a neutral tone is good enough to shadow the shake in your liquid courage, because SaeByeok is still convinced that it is the liquid courage meddling with your coherence.
So, her heartening hands come to engulf yours— The affectionate gesture sweet enough to make you swoon.
“It still counts as us spending time together, as long as we’re together…” Her thumbs gently caress your knuckles as she shrugs. “I don’t mind.”
One of the innumerable reasons you endlessly adored Kang SaeByeok was because she was the rare type of person who truly didn’t mind.
“Well too bad,” You declare to her, “Because I do.”
She regards your doting orbs as you sweep the short raven strands swinging in her sights behind the lobe of her ear, waiting for you to continue.
“I don’t know, I’ve just been hoping for a while now that we can… Start spending more quality time together…”
While the intent behind your coquettish request is wholesome, Saebyeok looks disappointed — Her features contort slightly with confusion, and if you didn’t know her so well, you might say she was pouting.
“Anytime I’m with you is quality time to me.” Her dainty disclosure whistles up in the wind and implores for your confirmation.
“No!” Your frantic console is spat in a hurry, before your little scheme can skew south.
“I mean yes it is, I feel the same way— It’s just… You’ve been busier lately and we don’t have as much face time together like usual…” In the persuading sputter of stutters, you somehow work your way back to the original point.
“Wouldn’t you prefer to do something more intimate with… Your girlfriend… rather than writing her thesis?”
    Your apartment falls noiseless.
Saebyeok squints as she silently seeks for the reason why you’re suddenly a third person in this conversation.
Maybe she forgot that you’re kind of an angsty weirdo — You sometimes have this excessive tendency to complicate things into oblivion.
The way you’re wired reminds her of an overstrung piano— a morass orchestra of sublime symphonies amalgamating into one swell song.
And thus, Saebyeok’s accepted that when you try to sing the lyrics, she may have to listen closely in between the overlapping labyrinths.
Her wary ears are open, but her innate need to be rational keeps her mouth closed.
“We can do whatever you want.” Is all she obliges to you, her features nearly impassive. “This is your place. What do you have in mind?”
Damnit. Saebyeok is harder to read than text subtitles across a theater screen.
Nevertheless, you sat aside your unsettled stomach and scrunch your shoulders like you’re careless.
“I guess I should at least be a decent host and offer you some food.” With her hand coalesced in your grasp, you lug over to your cushy kitchen area.
“Are you hungry? I have leftover pizza in the fridge, or I could make you something really quick.”
… Not exactly the hunger Sae was hoping to satisfy when she came over, but she supposes this’ll do too.
“Whatever is easiest is fine.” She replies, her body sticking close to yours with her every movement, as she knows the subtle steam of her skin will stir tension.
A simpering smile adorns your face while you dawdle to your fridge door.
“Pizza it is!” You move quickly, scurrying over to the cozy corner where your air-fryer lives while pulling the plastic wrap from the plate of pie, “After I heat this up, do you maybe wanna watch something by Ghibli!?”
The dopey grin on Sae’s lips offsets how she rolls her eyes and her heads shakes at the suggestion (that’s she pretty sure is becoming an obsession) of yours.
“Sure...” She agrees, chewing her bottom lip as her feet maunder in your direction. “Guess what?”
When the mini-fryer begins to aerate, you turn to face her hovering above you, pressing your back to lean against the cold marble countertop.
“What?” Ignoring the sweltering ache simmering between you, you ponder curiously with the flutter of your lashes.
There are the tiniest shards of luster lathing in Sae’s eyes— A supple smirk springing on the rim of her lips, and you instantly know the name she’ll say next.
“Cheol got invited to another kid’s birthday party this weekend.” The animation cresting through the undertones of her dour vocals could make you croon.
“Oh my gosh, really!? That’s so good!” Without noticing, your voice is lifted a few octaves, your hands are flapping together like a penguin’s, and you’re nearly jumping up and down.
Saebyeok is almost annoyed that she can feel the stupidly huge beam painting her features pink, and still can’t do anything to stop it— You’re just too precious.
She’s only strong enough to snicker at your reaction as she watches you in revere.
Once your feet plant again, you urge for all the juicy details.
“I take it he’s starting to fit in better at school?”
Sae nods. “He seems to be, yeah.”
For a second, her glimpse loses yours— She ducks her head a little, fingers running to fiddle with the hem of your (really hers) hoodie’s pouch before she proceeds…
“Anyways, I wanted to ask you.. If you felt like chaperoning at the party with me.” Her volume is shallow of any base and her eyes are anywhere but on yours. “I know it sounds kind of lame, but it’s supposed to be some laser tag thing with like, bouncy houses. You don’t have to play or anything—“
“Are you kidding!?” You can’t help to interrupt, voice dripping of wry humor and Saebyeok’s sights suddenly jolt up at you.
“I get to beat a buncha kids at laser tag and possibly meet the incredible, infamous Kang Cheol? Count me in.” You snort with a sardonic scoff.
Her face falters— Brows boosting to the baseline of her forehead, bewildered and all bushy-tailed.
“Really? You’d actually go with me?”
“Of course.” Starkly, you say, allowing your palm to skim tepid along her collarbone…
In moments like these, you sometimes wish you were more like Saebyeok.
You wish you were the type of person who knows how to chill— The type who didn’t nag, poke, or probe … Someone who didn’t throw a tizzy over silly things like labels and titles, who knew how to let things be…
But you weren’t. And you don’t.
So, if you just so happened to sense a perfectly good opening…
    “I mean… That’s what… Girlfriends are for, right?”
Luckily for you, the third time Saebyeok has to cringe through you awkwardly highlighting the word girlfriend out loud, is a charm.
“Okay, why do you keep repeating that?”
She’s blunt — Boring an unblinking gaze upon you as she scoffs beneath her breath, as if she found your behavior confusingly hilarious.
Your eyes go doe, and you put on a phony frown to avoid being so vilely prompted on the spot.
“Uh— I don’t know what you mean.” You puff a timorous chortle. “I’m not repeating anything—“
Your lying has never been very good, but Saebyeok is especially over your little larks tonight.
“Girlfriend.” She badgers you stubbornly with no remorse. “You keep saying the word girlfriend over and over on purpose. Why?”
You analyze her stony response with a churning stomach.
“Why are you being so hostile?” A swig of somber seeps into your defensive delivery. “Does that word make you uncomfortable by chance?”
“It might start to if you keep emphasizing it in every sentence.” She deadpans. “What is it?”
The air is dull of noise as your jaw clenches.
This is much more embarrassing to admit aloud than you could’ve imagined, but you can only dodge Saebyeok glaring daggers at you for so long — Before your cast crumbles…
“You called me your girlfriend last week.” You spit it out so fast, it nearly blends together like a single syllable.
Assuming you have more to spill, she quirks a brow at your seemingly insignificant statement.
   “Okay… And?”
“Anddd…” You attempt to shrug off your inhibitions, as all the correct words twist on the tip of your tastebuds, yet never come out straight.
“I-I’m- kind of— I’m just wondering if you, possibly, actually really meant it.”
Your eyes divert downward like lightning, though there really isn’t anywhere else to look— Saebyeok practically has you pinned against the air-fryer on the countertop behind you, and her body not much farther from melting into yours feels like thunder.
“You’ve never really referred to me as that before and, I guess I’m just trying to figure out what you see this— Us, as.”
Clearing your throat, you hope to expel the butterflies from your gullet.
Your apartment is peep-less again and you’re this isn’t the greatest sign.
At this point, you think your toes are sweating, your heart is beating so bad that it hurts, and you’re staring at the floor so hard that the tiles are beginning to wiggle.
And when you finally gather the gall to look at her again, Saebyeok is on the verge of bursting into a fit of laughter.
“Seriously?” She goads with giggles, her voice full of cynical glee. “(Name), I have a toothbrush here.”
Well, when you put it so curtly…
“Yeah— Well, It’s easy to misplace toothbrushes on accident.”
    You’re sure that’s a thing… Somewhere in the world…
“We’ve been intimate…” Saebyeok reminds you. “Like multiple times.”
Obvious is starting to sound like an absurd understatement— Even though you feel like your face is caked with clown makeup, you contradict her quickly—
“Okay, the first time we had sex was in your car…”
She sports a conceited sneer, her features glossed with gloat.
“Only because someone was too eager to wait…”
You are wordless, as your eye-sockets see the back of your brains for the third time she’s brought this up.
“Besides, I’m bringing you to meet my brother this weekend.”
“So what!?” You exclaim, solely for the petty purpose of putting up a fight. “If you really think about it, the sacredness of meeting family is very subjective—“
Saebyeok settles your debate with the covetous crash of her lips onto yours— A pale groan escapes you without your permission, your reciprocation impatient and hungry, as you pleach your palm into her hair.
She grunts lightly as you tug along her scalp, hands pulling your bodies even closer, nearly pressing your center against her hips.
Goosebumps inflame like prints all over your skin, a seething fever stewing your senses as your tongues entangle, the grip entwined in her fluffy tresses only getting tighter…
Saebyeok stops — Pulling back ever so slightly that her dense breath fans the hot flush coating your cheeks.
“We’re girlfriends.” She tells you. “I see you as my girlfriend, (Name).”
“Oh. Okay.” Exhaling heavily, you simply nod, trying to steady more than one throbbing pulse. “I see you as my girlfriend too, Saebyeok.”
“Good.” She sighs out with swollen lips.
    “Great.”
Your air-fryer beeps, right on cue to slice the tension with a knife.
“Well, now that that’s settled…” You swallow breathlessly. “Do you still want your pizza?”
“Depends.” She gawks at you with no indignity, slightly leaning in, as her hands soothe the cinch of your waist.
“Is that really what you called me over here to eat?”

L/n = last name. E/c = eye color. H/l = hair length. H/c = hair color summary: Sae-Byeok and Y/n have been inseparable from the first game. Speaking of their traumas and pain, promises are made. Before the last game, it seems that some promises have to be broken.
There was no doubt that player 027, known as L/n Y/n, had an attraction towards player 067, who was known as Sae-Byeok. Those two made sure they both made it out of each game alive. At times, one of them would come out with the emotional trauma of having to survive. For Sae-Byeok, the game that fucked her up was the fourth game; the Marbles. For Y/n, the game that fucked them up was the second game; Honeycomb.
"I am right here. You don't need to put up a show for me. You are hurting inside and I can see right through you," whispered Y/n as they sat on Sae-Byeok's bed. Slowly grabbing the blanket and pulling it over the woman's shoulders. The players had just finished the fourth game.
"Her name was Ji-Yeong. She let me walk out of that game alive. Told me she had nothing to live for. Told me we were going to have a girl's night out and make Mojitos," she sobbed out, leaning her head into Y/n's chest. Her tears soaking their sweater. "I don't even know what mojitos are."
"Hey. Hey. I know, darling. I know it hurts," Y/n comforted as they rubbed Sae-Byeok's back. Looking at all the surviving players, there was no doubt that everyone was miserable. They all had lost someone special. Or well... almost everyone.
"She wanted to go to Jeju Island with me. She had nobody and so she let me win the stupid game!" she nearly yelled for everyone to hear. "I should've never chosen her! Maybe like that, she would be conversing with us!" "Listen, I may not have known her, but I promise when we get out of here, we will go to that island and have those mojitos in her honor. I promise you," said Y/n as they kissed Sae-Byeok's head and held her closer, if possible. They hated seeing her so sad. "I promise Ji-Yeong and you that we will win the money and do the things she wanted to." The fifth game had just ended and both Sae-Byeok and Y/n had been instructed to change into new outfits the guards had provided them with. Almost like a reward for them winning the second to last game. That game had consisted of players jumping over glass panels to get across a bridge. Only four players didn't fall to their death in that game. Though looks can deceive when you are high off of adrenaline for passing a game. All glass panels that remained shattered and sent glass flying everywhere. Y/n had left the game with a minor injury to her chest.
"I look like a butler and this fucking... wound stings like a bitch!" Y/n yelled at the mirror as they began to clean the blood off of their chest. "I hope Sae-Byeok is okay. I haven't seen her." Unbeknownst to Y/n, Sae-Byeok was in a different bathroom wondering the same thing. Trying hard to stop her abdomen to stop bleeding. A glass shard had torn her skin and now had her leaving a bloody mess in that bathroom. Panting and sweating, she hoped that Y/n wouldn't notice the blood. Grateful that each player who remained was able to change in the privacy of their own bathroom. A lovely dinner was set up for the last four players: Player 027, Player 067, Player 218, and Player 456. The vibe in that room was one of uneasiness and hatred. Though that wasn't what Y/n was worried about. They were more worried about Sae-Byeok barely touching her food. A discomforted look was evident on her face and Y/n knew that there was something bothering her. Was it perhaps how little knowledge they had of the last game? What would happen with the money? Was it Gi-Hun and San-Woo's looks of hatred towards each other from across the table? At that point in time, anything could have been bothersome to Sae-Byeok. In that place it seemed that almost any negative thing was possible. In that hell they both had to experience. No matter the circumstances, Y/n was still determined to keep the promise she kept to Sae-Byeok and Ji-Yeong. It could cost them their life but they were going to make sure Sae-Byeok makes it out alive from this wretched place that reeks of death. No matter what consequences they had to face, Y/n was going to keep Sae-Byeok alive.
After dinner, the last four players sat in the first room they woke up in. The emptiness was unbearable, for only 4 beds remained from the 456 that were once placed there. Only four players from 456 remained and that made shivers run down y/n's spine. The last unrevealed game was now on their mind. The same question they had prior to every other game: what is the new game? One look at Sae-Byeok and of all Y/n's concerns for what the last game could be faded. Sae-Byeok had been dozing off countless of times as if she were tired. It was as if she had been cursed to be put to sleep, concerning Y/n about her well-being. No words or gestures came from Sae-Byeok's mouth or body to let them know that they were doing okay. Player 456, also known as Seong Gi-Hun, began walking towards her, the blade that was given to him present in his hand. Becoming alert, Y/n quickly stood up and ran towards them, hoping he wouldn't try anything. Red flags were present because of the blade and so Y/n held their own against his neck. "Woah woah! I'm not going to hurt her. Just want to help her out. It's weird for her to be dozing off like this and... hey.. Hey!" he exclaimed and reached down to hold her. Y/n wasn't going to lie when they say they felt jealousy course through their veins when Gi-Hun held Sae-Byeok close to him. The jealousy soon faded away when they looked at her shirt. A crimson red stained the white shirt she was wearing, causing Y/n's eyes to widen. A hitched breath escaped her lips in realization that Sae-Byeok had gotten injured with the glass shards from the last game.
"You're bleeding out?! Why didn't you say anything?!" Y/n yelled and placed a hand over the wound. Y/n wasn't usually the type to panic or stress out in these types of situations but it was the girl that they had fallen in love with. "I'm sorry. I know it hurts! I just. . . dammit, don't you dare give up on me, you hear me?!" "Y/n...y-y/n I l-love you. Don't you forget that, okay/ Go to Jeju I-island for Ji-Y-yeong and me. Keep your promise," she spoke with pain evident in her voice. "Shut up! Stop talking right now! Save your strength. Live for me, dammit! Please! Please stay with me. . ." pleading, Y/n's e/c eyes filled with tears. Heart pounding against their chest; the pain finally settling in. Were they going to lose Sae-Byeok?
Gi-Hun's P.O.V. Tears were evident on player 027's face, rolling down their cheeks and onto Sae-Byeok's own face. Knowing they were both in pain, I sprung into action and ran to the big doors that separated us from our freedom, apart from the walls. Since I arrived to this place, no doubt ever crossed my mind about Sae-Byeok being strong. She was strong, yes, but at this moment I could tell her body and mind were weakening with the blood loss. The same went for Y/n. I just don't know their strength or how much heartbreak they can take if they lose their lover.
"Hey! Hey! We need help! She's lost a lot of blood!" yelling in distress was all I could do as my fists began to bang on the metal doors. No way was I going to lose another friend to death. "There's a badly injured girl! Is anybody out there?!" I breathed heavily as the hope of someone being out there to help my dear friend out was dying. Frustration and rage filled my being, causing me to punch those doors even harder. "Get in here you assholes! Someone is dying and I am sure you need her alive for the next game! Someone out there, please, answer me!" I begged and slammed my palms against those steel doors. Sae-Byeok's blood now decorating them a crimson red. My hope was slowly fading that anyone would listen and show up.
No longer pounding on the door, I panted in exhaustion of slamming my hands too hard. All my hope had faded away until the lights flickered on and those damn doors opened. The alarm blaring and for once, it was music to my ears.
"Oh! Hey! Can you please get a doctor?! She has lost a lot of blood!" I held on to one of the guards, nearly falling on my knees to beg them for a doctor. I wanted Sae-Byeok alive. Not for my sanity but for y/n's. "Hurry! Please! She's. . " but there was never a finished sentence from my mouth. I had been pushed to the side as several guards walked into the first room holding a coffin.
'No. . please don't let her be dead,' was my only thought. Quickly facing towards my two beloved friends in disbelief hoping she wasn't dead. Horror took over my very being upon what I was seeing.
San-Woo was standing over Sae-Byeok's bed, holding on to Y/n. Blood running down his face. tainting the white shirt he wore.
Sae-Byeok's P.O.V My heart had stopped. My world had crashed down. My wounds no longer stinging with pain. Adrenaline now filling my veins when I laid eyes upon San-Woo holding onto my lover.
"NO!!!" I yelled out with all the rage that had filled my body. The physical pain now gone as only emotional pain took over. Before my eyes stood my y/n wrapped in the arms of San-Woo. Both of them entangled in a dance of death when his blade pierced right through her heart.
"Let her go!! Let her go now!!" yelled out Gi-Hun, pushing San-Woo away and holding onto Y/n. Jolting from my bed, I pushed him away as well and held my dearest Y/n close. Caressing her face and crying at the cough of blood she let out. "H-hey. . remember what you told me? You told me to stay with you so now you have to stay with me, do you u-understand..?!" I semi-yelled at her, regretting it the next second when her body flinched. "You can't leave me. . not like this. I need to know what it feels like to love you in Heaven. Not in this hell."
"Promises. . .," came their soft voice, whimpering in pain. "S-some promises.. are meant to be.. broken," they spoke, looking straight into my tear-filled eyes. "I was already in Heaven.. just by b-being.. n-near ..y-you...".
"It's okay! It's okay if you break your promise, you just have to stay with me, okay?!" I spoke, staring right into her eyes, only, there was no more life in them. . .
"Y/n? Y/N, NO!!! PLEASE!!!" I shouted and cradled their deceased body close, missing the warmth they had radiated.
My heaven was gone. My promise to a new life...was gone.

Kang Saebyeok (Squid Game) x Male Reader
Tumblr media
[Salve, I saw "Requests Open," saw the list, and was wondering, something for Kang Saebyeok.I was thinking fluff. They are friends or together (whichever) and its before The Games.] I’m so sorry, I forgot who requested this😭.
One night, Y/N and Saebyeok were both lying on their beds in the cramped quarters of the North Korean refugee camp in South Korea. Y/N had been helping out at the camp, offering his skills as a translator to assist those who had fled from the oppressive regime in North Korea. Saebyeok and her younger brother were among the refugees, having escaped from the country in search of a better life.
The girl lay with her back to Y/N, staring up at the ceiling. The man could sense her tension and unease, despite her attempts to hide it. He spoke up softly, "Are you okay?"
Saebyeok scoffed, "What do you think? We're stuck in this godforsaken place, with no idea what the future holds. Of course, I'm not okay."
Y/! nodded, "I understand. It's a difficult situation, but at least you're safe here. You and your brother have a chance at a better life.”
Saebyeok turned over to face him, her eyes flashing with anger. "Safe? You call this safe? We're still living in fear, even here in South Korea. And who knows what will happen if we're sent back to North Korea."
He took a deep breath, trying to remain calm. "I know it's not ideal, but it's better than what you had before. And we're doing everything we can to help you and the others here."
Kang Saebyeok's expression softened slightly, "I know. And I appreciate everything you're doing for us. It's just hard to trust anyone after everything we've been through."
Y/N nodded in understanding, "I know it's hard, but I promise you, we're on your side. We want to help you build a new life here in South Korea."
Kang Saebyeok gave him a small smile, "Thank you, Y/‘. I'll try to remember that…"
As they settled back onto their beds, Y/N could feel the weight of the situation pressing down on them both. But he also knew that as long as they had each other's support, they could face whatever challenges lay ahead. At least that’s what he thought before Saebyeok disappeared and never came back.

Squid Game Headcannons: The players’ love languages
warnings: none other than one swear word lol
gifs are not mine
——
Seong Gi-hun
Tumblr media
Gi hun’s top two love languages are physical touch and gift giving.
He doesn’t have much money, but even still he absolutely loves to spoil his significant other any time he gets the chance to. He secretly enjoys receiving gifts as well, but sometimes he feels bad taking from others. Especially if it’s money.
When in a relationship with Gi Hun physical affection is a MUST. This man will always be holding his partner’s hands or wrapping his arm around their waist, anything to feel close. He’s super cuddly, especially if he or his partner has had a bad day.
Cho Sang-Woo
Tumblr media
Sangwoo’s biggest love languages are gift giving and acts of service, as well as physical touch in private.
Sangwoo is pretty reserved, which can make it hard for him to be vulnerable with people, which is really what makes physical touch one of his love languages. Cuddling and hand holding with him is essentially a show of trust for him, showing that he feels comfortable enough to show his soft side around his partner.
He’s much less shy about acts of service and gifts, though. His partner can always expect him to open doors, make meals, and do chores for them. As well, it’s a very common occurrence for him to come home with gifts or flowers (probably bought with company money).
Kang Sae-byeok
Tumblr media
Sae Byeok definitely likes physical affection in private, but her main love language is quality time.
Like Sangwoo, Sae Byeok is reserved with her emotions, so physical touch is mostly reserved for in private. She adores cuddling, especially if she gets to be the big spoon. She’ll never admit how much she loves it, but it’s clear from how every morning she holds on tighter as her partner tries to get up from bed, mumbling about how she wants ‘five more minutes.’ She’ll hold hands in public if her partner wants to, or if she wants to show that they’re hers.
She absolutely loves spending time with her significant other. Watching TV together, playing videogames, doing activities, anything. As long ad she’s spending time with them, it doesn’t matter.
Ali Abdul
Tumblr media
Ali’s main love languages are physical touch and words of affirmation.
Ali is super cuddly. He’s like the overly clingy couples you see in lines for rides at the amusement park, just constantly hugging on his partner or playing with their hands or hair. He knows when to stop though, and if his partner isn’t a fan of PDA, then he’ll respect it. That just means all the more cuddling in private.
Words of affirmation is less of him saying it to his partner and more of them saying it to him. Being told how much he means to them or how handsome he is makes his heart absolutely soar. It makes him feel so loved and appreciated.
Ji-yeong
Tumblr media
Ji-yeong mainly enjoys quality time and receiving gifts.
She knows how short life can be, so to her it’s extremely important to spend as much time as possible with her significant other. As well, she just likes to hang out with them, feeling most connected when spending time together.
She also enjoys receiving gifts, but it isn’t required for her to be happy in the relationship. Little gifts here and there really show her that she is appreciated. Even if she doesn’t always think she’s that important, the fact that her partner thought about her enough to get her a gift quickly proves her wrong.
Hwang Jun-ho
Tumblr media
Jun ho’s top love languages are physical touch and quality time.
As an officer, Jun ho also knows the dangers of the world and how important it is to spend time with those you love, hence the reason why quality time is so important to him. He really likes going on dates, drives, and even shopping trips, but he also appreciates staying in and having a lazy day with his partner.
Jun ho also is pretty touchy. Hand holding, hugging, cuddling, all of it. He really likes his hair being played with during cuddles, the feeling often putting him to sleep within minutes. He enjoys appropriate PDA, which triples when he’s jealous. If someone is hitting on his partner, expect him to swoop in with that PDA to put an end to it.
Jang Deok-su
Tumblr media
Deok su is very emotionally closed off, used to any weakness being exploited with the amount of enemies he has. He generally shows love through acts of service, and on occasion gift giving.
He won’t make a big show of it, no. He might not show it, but he listens to his partner very well, remembering what tasks need to be done around the house or what has been stressing them out so he can do it while they’re gone to surprise them. If it’s brought up to him, he simply says he wanted to help out or noticed that his partner was stressed about it so he decided to do it instead.
On occasion he will also come home with gifts. It could be some small trinket that reminded him of his partner, or even something expensive, but he will always act like it isn’t a big deal.
“Here. I saw it at the market and thought you might like it.”
“Deok su, how much did this cost?!”
“It doesn’t matter. Do you like it?”
Han Mi-nyeo
Tumblr media
Mi nyeo is definitely a fan of physical touch. She also enjoys receiving gifts and words of affirmation.
She can be pretty touchy, holding her partners arm in public and hugging on them in private. While she can be independent if she wants to be, she tends to be pretty clingy.
Receiving gifts and compliments are the big two ways to make her feel loved. It makes her feel special and reassured her that her partner thinks about her and truly does love her.

fanfic author self-recs
thank you @chocochipbiscuit for tagging me - this was a delightful challenge! tagging @rose-gardens @mikbates @pretty-rage-machine @mariaaxescallop @leksaa90 @ostreatus @minoan-ophidian and anyone else who’d like to do this.
diving in, my five:
1) the sun coming out (Jiyeong/Kang Saebyeok) - Squid Game: wrote this for a lovely recip in an exchange, who liked/wanted post-canon fic. in practice I like exploring aftermaths & fix-its where people’s road(s) to happiness still have to be worked for and not every kink’s been smoothed out, and this fic is a prime example of that for me.
alternative tldr: “LOOK at the parallels between jiyeong and saebyeok. LOOK at them” fic complete with cooking and partial recovery. I’m deeply lucky my recip enabled my, uh, runaway domestic jiyeong/saebyeok aspirations and the latitude to write all that. <3
2) the slow mending (Pieck/Hange) - Shingeki no Kyojin: wrote this for a prescient friend -- my concept line was something like... political & historical differences patched through the good old reliable tactic of learning to read, understand, and trust your enemies. I’m still fond of this bit:
So Hange, conscious of historical precedence—what they have both usually done to each other in encounters like this, her titan’s gravestone teeth in Shiganshina and their aggression in Liberio—tries something new instead. They clasp her clean hand in theirs, and draw it close against their face. At the sensation of the contact-burn, her elevated shifter heat kissing their fingers, Hange very gently presses their lips to her hand.
3) to walk along the edge (Pieck/Annie) - Shingeki no Kyojin: this was a sophomore fic; some parts induce the facepalm emoji now, but I’m also surprised by how well certain parts hold up, and I think of this in some ways as a magnum opus.
despite the heavy subject matter and unhappy ending, I’ve been told this fic is comforting, and that humbles me. I sometimes find sad and bittersweet stories more comforting than staunchly happy ones myself; whether consciously or not, I think my writing here came from that same place.
4) blood to gold (Pieck/Hange) - Shingeki no Kyojin: looking back now this fic set up all my Classic Hits like, grief/mourning, hope amidst bleakness, thoughtful narrative voices, and so on. I wrote this shortly after reading the widely circulated essay Against the Logic of the Guillotine. I still like these lines:
Vengeance feels like a guillotine—an entity that wants justice to be served with a swift, purifying cut. Let history renew itself on a clean slate free of enemies.
5) the centre cannot hold (genfic; Hitch & Annie) - SNK: situational horror! missing scenes! stoic characters having said stoicism eroded! the slippage of time and memory; writing this was a blast.
