I've started watching lock picking lawyer videos when the Horrors get too much because a major anxiety thing for me is always needing to know where my exits are and I find it unbelievably reassuring to see someone very calmly explain how locks work and how to bypass them in under 5 minutes. The downside to this is I don't know where my lock picks are and it's really stressing me out because now I desperately want to practice

#i have a mini set in my wallet and i just straight up carry keys for the most common locks i need to access or get stressed about #namely for accessible toilets + fish lights + storage cabinets + police handcuffs + this one brand of toilet roll dispenser #which always really fucks me off because it doesnt WORK without the ability to open and unjam it but theyre really common and i hate them #but. i want my full set. i wanna practice this is making me feel better and id feel even better if i was better at it #OH also i carry a multipurpose hex key for things like gas meters and fuse boxes and fixing a skateboard #which is good and mostly very reassuring to own but i would like to be even more self sufficient with it yk

thinking about Nat and the group and this reaping ritual...

not that I expect logic to apply, but it is illogical, right? Nat is the hunter, she is the one with the skills to keep them alive and fed. and yeah, there isn't any game to hunt right now because it's winter, but what about when winter is over?

and Nat is the practical one. in the wilderness where the rest are seeing things that aren't there, she sees them for what they are. (when she says to jackie's remains that shit is gonna get a whole lot worse). she doesn't partake in the rituals because she doesn't see their worth, but she respects the others enough that she lets them do what comforts them, until it goes too far and there's a knife at her throat.

but she's the hunter. she is a good shot, and until winter came and the hunting dried up, she was crucial to the work of survial. and thinking about that has just got me thinking that, there is this tendency in religious sects...to value the ritual and the people who participate fully in the ritual, over the people who do the necessary, unglamorous work of survival. the yjs convince themselves that Lottie is necessary for their survival, meanwhile Nat has been quietly doing the work.

not that she wants praise for it, or even recognition, even in the dynamics of the team we see precrash she's less concerned about ego and more about keeping them working together. and maybe that's why she participates, but it's also why she tells shauna to look her in the eye.

finished my first kurnoth hunter today! this guy was kind of a test run for a lot of things but he came out pretty great. my first time trying to do highlights as well as basing. i may have glued some of my flock to my fingers by mistake, lmao

but yeah the base is pretty much just a combo of cheap grass flock, some teeny pebbles, and a couple army painter grass tufts, all over some stirland mud. nothin fancy, but it really helps bring the mini to life :)

How is it that after watching The Terror literally countless times, I still want to rewatch it?

My orientation is on Thursday and I am. feeling a lot. I can’t really do much more to prepare for it, but trying to distract myself is not working, so. I’ll just be feeling off for a few days

#Love when that happens #One less thing rattling around in the background - nice #And the queue's all set until almost the end of next month lol I had quite the backlog to work through #It's always gratifying to see submissions come in tho ♪ It makes me happy that people are still engaging so readily hehe #And there were more submissions this time around! Always appreciated :D #I got to finish off some old requests that at the time didn't have enough high quality images to add to the queue so that's especially nice #And quite a few were very easy to edit #Just a good batch all the way around this time!#Now to just get my brain back into drawing mode lol I'm still flush with ideas #My no-show-off idea has been giving some pretty great returns for the first step so that's pretty nice #Now to just do a stream or two (or more...the first one turned out really long lol)#I know I worked on two different minis for the last stream but in total the panels were what like twelve in all?#Throw in the warmup and the two requests and that's 15 - this one idea ended up being close to 30 panels lol #Six hour stream for ~~~15 images.......#Well I won't know til I do it lol #Plus I do have a few sli~ightly smaller things I'd like to do first haha #There are still things I want to draw from And Also With You but I haven't been able to set aside the time to reread :'0 #And I'm still trying to limit rereading time overall so there's that lol - it works in favour of that goal but I'm still only half happy!#Haha #Remind me to show y'all a concept I've turned into warmup practice next time I stream too lol #Depending on how they turn out I'll either finish a whole bunch or only one and then forget about it lol
