‘They know my secret, not that it really is one but as long as the two dafest boys in our group don’t know it then it still is one’ “of course we know y/n” said George “what did you think. you’d like the chosen one and we wouldn’t find out to tease you” said Fred ‘how do they always do that’ she stared at them “yeah I would have particular enjoyed that honestly” Fred laughed.

She continue to stare at them as they had this look that they were suddenly communicating without speaking, “look can we please go downstairs your mom sent me to come get you guys and sooner or later she’ll come up here looking for us” they looked at each other and nodded “we aren’t finished with this conversation though”

Leaving them behind she hurried down the stairs almost tripping on the last one. She sat down in front of Harry as half of them were already seated, Harry looked at her and smiled while she smiled back and sat down.

After a while of eating and everyone consecutively finishing; Molly asked Ginny to bring out the cake, it was a homemade chocolate cake with the words “Happy Birthday Harry’’ and a decorative quidditch broom enchanted to fly around the cake. Harry smiled down at it, it was nice to see it, everyone smiling after a wondering summer, they all felt it, a shift in their world and not a good one; it’s as though He Who Must Not Be Named is planning the inevitable but no one is saying anything. Whether it’s out of ignorance or fear. Y/n’s thought bubble was popped when she heard the last ‘birthday’ of the song being sung she looked at Harry blow out the candles and the quidditch broom fly out and make mini fireworks. Molly did always go above and beyond it’s was a great change of atmosphere just like when you walk through the front door of the Weasley home.

Gifts were unwrapped and the chosen boys birthday was coming to an end y/n made sure to stay away from Fred and George just in case they wanna give her another “interview.” Molly sat next to Ron as Harry opened the last few gifts and Ginny sat next to him while Hermione sat next to y/n. “At what time do you have to be home?” Hermione asked “Oh I think I might just leave after midnight mum never said a time” she nodded smiling as Harry unwrapped her gift it was a bunch of books and the spell she uses to fix his glasses written on parchment paper so he has it at hand. Molly looked towards y/n “and did you already give him something y/n” she nodded and said “yeah I got him a dream catcher” molly smiled and nodded she then got up and went to the kitchen to cut some cake for my family as it was almost midnight. The rest of the weasleys were up to their own bidding and conversations.

At a moment of vulnerability in between Hermione leaving her side Fred and George sat on both her sides “you should tell him you know” Fred said as he spoke in a low voice George nodded a long not looking at her “we know he likes you right back” he said y/n’s eyes widened and said “boys I love your jokes and pranks but I would appreciate you guys not trying to fool me into believing such a daft thing, I know he likes your sister he told me so.” She sighed her voice a little to low and sad George shook his head in disagreement “we aren’t lying or tricking you y/n/n” “yeah for real he speaks in his sleep and the walls are not thick so we heard him while planning a back to Hogwarts prank” continued Fred.

Y/n looked at both of them doubting her suggested intentions, and looked down to play with her hands. “Y/n when he told you that he liked dear old Ginny did he ever hesitate? Or looked away as though he was thinking it through” she sighed again “I don’t remember it was months ago” but she lied of course she remembered that moment it was the moment she realized her friendship with Harry would never move from that moment, they were just friends and nothing more but Fred was right she remembered him looking away and hesitating his answer, she didn’t want to think it through to much but her heart sped up at the idea that he may have been lying.

She got up and left the boys side standing next to where Harry was she took the risk with what the twins had told her she had gotten a little gutsy and decided she needed to know. “Harry can I speak to you” she slightly interrupted a conversation between him and Ginny, Harry didn't seem to care but Ginny once again shot daggers at her. y/n didn’t understand the childish jealousy from Ginny is what she wished she had been thinking but she did understand Ginny and to be honest she was about to be jealous and sad if Harry truly admits his feelings for Ginny are genuine.

Harry nodded and followed y/n outside it wasn’t really windy or chilly for that matter it was just a sweet windless cold on the last day of July. “What’s up? Did you need something?” Harry asked. Standing in front of her he noticed how she was short but he already knew that and he just noticed that while standing really close to one another her height made her adorable he noticed her cheeks were red and how her y/e/c eyes were a little brighter under the porch light Harry smiled at that; he could never deny his feelings for her unless it was to her face.

“I need to ask you something” y/n asked she was hesitant now, standing in front of him made her want to retract her question entirely and go home but she stayed and let him answer back “yeah what is it?” Her brain told her to retreat but before she could think it through she said “do you really have a crush on Ginny?” Harry sucked his breath and almost choking on it, pushing his glasses back up his nose he noticed how she was playing with her hand something she only ever did when she became drastically nervous.

To think of an answer took a while and he debated telling her the truth, Harry remembered Ron’s words ‘tell her before you lose her’ he let go of his breath and said “no. I never did I lied to you so you wouldn’t know that I liked you” y/n was ready to hear a ’yes’ but as she heard ‘no’ her hands dropped to the sides and the breath she unnoticeably held back came out she looked into Harry’s eyes and listened to how he reciprocated feelings. Not really knowing how to respond she just looked at him. Harry not knowing what to do he starts speaking again “it’s fine if you don’t feel the same way I would like for you to forget i said anyth-“ it was as though a switch flipped inside y/n and she kissed him as he felt her lips he kissed back his hands making their way towards her waist holding her feeling the warmth radiating she smiled against his lips and pulled back.

“I feel the same way.” He chuckled his cheeks, turning red “I would hope so, unless you go around kissing every person that starts to ramble” she laughed and swatted his shoulder “oh shut it” he pulled away from her and said “y/n I’m so glad you asked me again, now would you like to go on a date with me some time this week?” “Y/n’s cheeks felt red and hot but she nodded.

She grabbed his hand and walked back inside, walking past the twins she winked at them and walked towards the kitchen so she could leave for the night. Harry was first to notice how his hand fit perfectly in hers and how warm her hand was; he looked down to their hands and smiled. Y/n led them into the kitchen and stopped in front of the table Molly sitting talking with Hermione and Ginny stopped halfway and looked at their interlocked hands she smiled her bright smile and nodded “are you leaving now?” Y/n nodded and removed her hand from Harry missing the warmth she took the cake pieces for her family and hugged Hermione goodbye “you better owl me or write to me all about this when you get home” y/n giggled but agreed.

Waving bye to Ginny, her face fell she looked down at the table but looked up when y/n said bye and waved to her. Lastly y/n turned to Harry, not knowing whether to kiss him or hug him she decided to hug him and kiss him on the cheek. Y/n then said “owl me to set up that date Harry” he smiled and nodded, placing a hand on his face where she kissed him getting under the floo passageway she said her homes name appeared there, standing now back in her living room she headed for the kitchen to drop off the cake and run to her room. She laid in her bed remembering the nights events slowly she drifted off to sleep.

Courtney slowly blinked her eyes open as she heard Natasha Bedingfield's voice coming through the speaker of her phone. Her 4:00 am alarm was going off as it always did. Sitting up in the bed she rubbed at her. It took her a moment to wake up, but once she did she looked around. Sam was gone, her arm wasn't injured, and she wasn't in a motel. With a groan she pulled her knees to her chest and laid her head atop them. Things seemed to be getting more and more confusing. Was this her life? Or was it being a hunter? She didn't know anymore. Both lives were in her memories and the attack by the rugaru seemed so real. The pain she had felt, the fear. It had been so tangible and she remembered every second of it. She remembered the worried look in Sam's eyes as he saved her.

But then if the hunt had been real why wasn't she hurt? Why was she waking up in her bed, in her house all alone? She couldn't figure it out. At this point she was beginning to think she was going crazy. It was the only explanation she could come up with. She probably needed to be checked out by a therapist or something. Get locked in a mental hospital and heavily medicated. Because who in their right mind had trouble separating reality from dreamland? The answer was normal people didn't have that problem.

With a heavy sigh, Courtney climbed out of bed and headed to the bathroom. After doing her business she made coffee and a meager breakfast. She didn't have enough time to fix something big and healthy. A small bowl of oats and an apple were it. As soon as she finished breakfast it was time to shower and get dressed for another long day at the office. She really didn't want to go to work, but she needed her job. She didn't have enough money saved up to look at her boss and tell him just how she felt. Of course that was only part of the problem. Even if she had money saved up to get by until she found a new job, one she would enjoy, she had never been gutsy enough to actually quit. As much as she hated her job and her boss she couldn't bring herself to tell him off.

Walking into the office she walked over to her desk and say down in her uncomfortable chair. She really needed a new one as this one was falling apart. It hardly had any cushioning left and the position it made her sit in was highly uncomfortable. She had asked Richard many times for a new one, but he always said they didn't have the money. Yet he had a new espresso machine, his own water cooler, a mini fridge with champagne, a brand new custom made chair, and he always had a small buffet in his office for him and the other lawyers. He clearly didn't care about the people who planned his cases, handled development, and management. Hell he looked down on her so much he treated her like a secretary.

On top of doing all her duties as a paralegal Courtney was often made to fetch lunch for her boss and his partners, she had to get coffee, answer phone calls, and anything else he demanded of her. “He is so evil. I swear he has to be some kind of monster. I wish I could do to him what hunters do to all monsters,” she mumbled to herself. Moments ago Dick had walked in and dumped some money on her desk and told her to go buy a gift for his wife and his girlfriend. He had gave her a list of the things both women liked and even made a comment that if she played her cards right she could be his side chick. What a pig!

Courtney didn't care how famous Dick was in the lawyer world, didn't care how much money he made, what kind of car he drove, how beautiful his large house was; there was no way she would ever be with a guy like him. Even though he was a good looking guy, his awful attitude made him ugly. He looked down at everyone he considered less than him, which was almost everyone, he saw women as playthings. His wife was there to give him children and take care of the home while he went out and had fun with his girlfriend. And he had the audacity to ask her to be a part of that. She would sooner sell her soul and go to hell than become anything other than his paralegal.

Stomping into the mall to look for gifts for two women she didn't know, but felt sorry for, Courtney began to wish she was back with Sam and Dean. Despite being hurt, confused, and in pain, she had been cared for. Dean had taken time to get her favorite breakfast. Sam had treated her with love, kindness, and understanding. She could still remember how safe and warm she felt snuggled into his arms as she laid down to go to bed. At this point it didn't matter if she was going crazy and that world didn't really exist; she wanted to be back there. Being with the Winchesters was a lot better than being treated like a glorified secretary and hit on like her boss was doing her a favor by even noticing her.

The first place Courtney went to once she read over the list Dick had given her was the jewelry store. She figured buying the most expensive gift first would be easiest. That way she could buy the wife something without having to worry. After all her boss had said to splurge on the girlfriend. Apparently she was treated better than the woman who had stood by him for 15 years and had given him a son and daughter. But what business was that of Courtney's?

Looking into the display case Courtney let out a scoff. All of this was so expensive and sure it looked pretty, but what purpose did that gaudy necklace with all its diamonds and sapphires serve? It looked like it was heavy and if you fell in a puddle your ass was going to drown because of the weight. It was just too much.

What was worse was almost every piece of jewelry was like that. Big, gaudy, and more money than she would ever spend on jewelry.

Courtney was a simple girl. She liked small things. They were there and they could be seen without being super extravagant and looking like you could have put a down payment on a house. With a roll of her eyes she kept looking around, but eventually she just decided to buy that stupid diamond and sapphire necklace she had seen in the beginning. Dick was the type of guy who wanted to flaunt his money. The awful necklace around his young pretty girlfriend's neck was the perfect way to do it. She walked over to the only person she saw working and asked for his help.

“What could I possible help you with? You don't look like you could afford even our cheapest piece of jewelry in here?” Jean asked with an air of superiority. His nose was turned up and he was looking down at Courtney as if she was dirt on the floor.

Courtney narrowed her eyes and slammed her hands down on the display counter in front of her. “Listen here asshat. I can't afford anything in here. Even if I could I wouldn't want it. I like not having my neck or arms weighed down by large gaudy jewelry. However my boss Dick wants me to buy something for his girlfriend. So you're going to get that stupid necklace over there,” she pointed toward it, “wrap it up in a nice pretty box, take my boss’ money and let me get out of here so I can go back to being treated like scum by him. Got it?”

Jean's eyes widened and he nodded his head. It was clear that he wasn't used to dealing with people telling him off. And though Courtney wasn't exactly the biggest person in the world she had this terrifying look in her eyes that made the man want to listen to her. It was as if she was channeling her inner hunter. She was giving him the look she would a monster who had pissed her off. As quick as Jean could he scrambled over to the display case and got the necklace out. It was placed in a nice beautiful box and she was rung up.

Courtney gave Jean a curt smile like she hadn't bit his head off moments ago and left the store. She still couldn't believe how much she...Dick had just spent on a necklace. It was disgusting how he flaunted his wealth and power. She truly wished he would take a long walk off a short pier, fall off a cliff, or something else worthy of someone as awful as he was.

Looking down at the little slip of paper Dick had given her, Courtney tried to decide where she should go next. She could go to Bath & Body Works or she could go to Yankee candle. Either was an option. Hell she felt like she should go to both buy a bunch of stuff for Dick's wife so she could have a spa day at home. She deserved it being married to that ostentatious pig.

“Hey come back here!”

Courtney lifted her head to see a young man running away from the rent-a-cop the mall had employed. He looked to be carrying something heavy, but before she had a chance to make out what it was the boy crashed into her and she went falling back, slamming her head against the fountain behind her. Blood trickled down the side of her head, black dots swam in her vision. “Miss? Miss are you okay?” She heard someone ask, but it sounded far off like the person was muffled. Courtney tried to lift her head, but it only made her more dizzy. Without answering whomever it was that had been talking to her she slumped against the fountain and gave in to the calling to fall asleep.

Underrated fics, Part 9

I seem to have missed making a special post when this blog hit the 1,000 follower mark which was a couple of months ago, so I’d like to thank you all belatedly with some more underrated fics.

Lucky number 9 of my rec series will hopefully bring some luck to both authors and readers of these Sherlock BBC fics that aren't getting enough love. This time with a really eclectic mix of genres and settings, there should be something for everyone, regardless of how you felt about series 4. My qualifications for this list are: - Fic complete - Last chapter posted prior to October 1, 2017 - Fewer than 200 kudos as of this posting - Earned a 'favorite' from me on AO3 And now, in descending order of length: An AU of series 3 and 4 that takes the basic plot of the episodes, adds Johnlockary, and changes a few other things, some minor and some more major. It’s gutsy and bold, drawing on real emotion and truly allowing the characters to shine. I found it surprisingly engaging despite not being a Johnlockary fan, so if that's all that's been putting you off please reconsider. (Also: Johnlock is endgame.) The Final Problem (alternative) (137,738 words) by 221b_hound Rating: Mature Relationships: John Watson/Mary Morstan, Sherlock Holmes/John Watson/Mary Morstan, Sherlock Holmes/John Watson Summary: A Pure and Simple Truth reworks the last 7 episodes of BBC Sherlock, from The Empty Hearse to the Final Problem. Some elements will be the same, some reused, some discarded. This series will work towards eventual Johnlock. ====== Part 2 of a Potterlock series (I recommend reading Part 1 first), fast-paced and full of tension and excitement, with good characterizations and nice use of ensemble casts. At any rate, this can be read without the earlier parts if need be, and is really beautifully written. The Heat Death of the Universe (29,409 words) by liriodendron Rating: Explicit Relationships: Sherlock Holmes/John Watson Summary: In which Sherlock Holmes discovers what it's like to wait, John Watson is pretty good at denial, and every shadow has a light source. The conclusion to Conductivity. ====== A good old-fashioned casefic with a strong original case and an undercurrent of UST that gets resolved with a glimpse of more to come. With a twist on some favorite tropes, including undercover (sort of boyfriends) for a case, unilock (not what you might think), and (not really platonic) bed-sharing. The Camford Dares (17,113 words) by writerfan2013 Rating: Teen And Up Audiences Relationships: Sherlock Holmes/John Watson Summary: Sherlock is being mysterious and secretive and John is being particularly stubborn and their annoying case in a well-known university town is not helping anything. Case!fic! Mystery and infuriation but ultimately johnlock. ====== A beautiful, atmospheric casefic set in Sussex, this post-series 2 fic stands the test of time splendidly. Under the Downs (16,165 words) by Evenlodes_Friend Rating: Explicit Relationships: Sherlock Holmes/John Watson Summary: Five years after they first meet, a case in rural Sussex changes John and Sherlock's life forever. ====== An absolute gem of a story, vivid and engaging, with lively dialogue, well-rounded characters, and mini-plots that all contribute to the whole. John's got some mixed feelings about Sherlock's promiscuous past, but he can't deny what hearing about it in lascivious detail does to him - especially now that he's the only one safely naked in bed with him. ====== This fic takes a huge detour off the beaten path, leaving me wondering whether to be more horrified or comforted by the direction it took. A Real Deal (10,339 words) by toyhto Rating: Mature Relationships: Sherlock Holmes/John Watson Summary: Please be real, he thought and pulled Sherlock closer. ====== Completely original and unique, with hypnotic prose and a delicacy of execution that kept me spellbound throughout. The Collector (9,129 words) by ShinySherlock Rating: Teen And Up Audiences Relationships: Sherlock Holmes/John Watson Summary: Coaxing Sherlock Holmes and John Watson to get out of their own way is just the sort of task she savors. With vials, bottles, and boxes, she stoppers up their grief, siphons their yearning, captures their devotion to add to her collection. (Canon-compliant through the majority of TLD; ignores TFP completely).

dyscrasia and eucrasia are based up and fully built! my two warband leaders. shout out to cork btw, she can truly do it all.

since I dont have access to the tools and materials for pinning, I kind of made up for it by jamming eucrasias bell into the ground to provide a better point of contact. it feels pretty sturdy now, so thats good! plus the addition of some crumbled cork and it feels like the weight of it has broken the ground apart, which hides where I slathered it in glue And gives it an in-universe reason to be slightly buried like that :p

next step is gonna be making the blightkings- im not gonna worry about paints until theyre all assembled together

while im waiting on some cork to arrive so I can make some rocky/raised bases, got to work putting the second member of the warband together, dyscrasia! hes a rotbringer sorcerer bashed together with some spoilpox scrivener bits, which fit pretty nicely together I think. well enough I didnt have to break out the putty this time, anyways

so I changed the weapons and bugs since last time! I decided I really didnt like how the blue came out. so instead I opted to go for the same brass on the weapons but then made the bugs and sprites and such bright green. it looks so much nicer imo and its pretty fluorescent irl which looks super cool :)

slaangor fiendbloods are finished! well, except the bases, but i've not got anything to base with yet. thats a problem for another day. this was my first build n paint and it was a lot of fun! each one i got more confident and faster, too. ive got a long way to go, I didnt even really try highlighting or any fancy brush techniques, but they were really relaxing and fun to work on :)

finally done! i spent all evening today working on Eucrasia, and I think he came out rad. theres a few things I struggled with (the wings... aah...) but even then I think he still looks really cool. fun fact, Eucrasia's model is covered in Seven Nurglings because I was mad I couldn't push the warband to 7 members due to point restrictions so I made up for it there ;p

this was a super fun set of lads to work on overall and I've already got my tzeentch and soulblight warbands to work on so i've got no shortage of fun models to paint in the upcoming months lol...

my COOL DOG !! so so fun to paint. the nicest part about nurgle models is even if you get a lil messy, it's all part of the general aesthetic anyway. so a little too much shade or a accidentally-gross colour mix? all part of the slop buddy

there were so many little crevices to try to get paint into especially with the tentacles- i actually had a tentacle snap during painting and had to Very Quickly glue that back and try to hide the seam lol. and I made the decision to give him both tongues which made painting that stomach mouth a pain in the ass a bit. but hey, made it work and I love how it came out, now I have my gross puppy :)
