What Happens in Front of the Mirror Stays in the Mirror

When you live in a house full of magical artifacts you need to be mindful of where you get up to things.
You’ve always had a phobia of spiders, something Constantine finds amusing most of the time. One day as you’re sitting at the table working your way through the latest magical tome John recommended you try a spider makes its way across the table toward you. It’s practically on your hand by the time you noticed it. You let out a scream in startled fear and leap out of your chair. John comes rushing in thinking something is wrong, cigarette dangling from his mouth, ready for a fight. "What's wrong, love?"
You just point a shaky finger at the spider, he snorts and quips, "That what's got you screaming like that?"
"You know I have thing about spiders and it was practically on me!"
"You can face a nightmare from hell without so much as a flinch but a little old spider gots you screaming like some damsel in distress," he muses as he picks up your empty water glass from the table flips it over and places it over the spider. "Good?" he asks raising an eyebrow at you.
"Yes, but later you'll take it outside or something right?"
He snorts again, "Sure pet." He snuffs out his cigarette in the ashtray on the table then tips the edge of the water glass up a little, bends down and blows some smoke in with the spider, "Welcome to my world mate."
You go over to him and wrap your arms around his waist and look up into those beautiful deep brown eyes, "And what does my brave knight want as reward for rescuing this damsel in distress?"
A smirk spreads across John's face, "A chivalrous knight would seek no reward."
"That doesn't mean he doesn't deserve one," now you can't keep the smile from your face as he wraps one arm around your waist and pulls you closer and loops some hair behind your ear with his other hand. "I insist, no good deed should go unrewarded."
John leans in, lips ghosting over yours, "Well than my princess the reward should be of your choosing." With that you close the distant between you and give John a deep kiss, running your hand through his hair to pull him closer. He starts to back you toward the table. When you realize this you break away from the kiss. There's no way you’re getting busy on the table with the spider. He gives you a puzzled look. You shoot a glace at the spider and then start to pull him toward the couch. The two of you tumble onto the couch, hands all over each other tugging each others clothes off as quickly as possible. You spend the rest of the night on the couch. You make sure your chivalrous knight is well rewarded for his brave deed.
You and John are a tangle of arms and legs, snuggly wrapped around each other, sound asleep on the couch the next morning. When you wake up to an, "Honestly!?!" over you. It's Chas with a disgruntled look on his face. John grabs the blanket that's slung over the back of the couch and uses it cover you. John's not shy about being naked but he knows that you are and has a habit of making sure you’re covered whenever you get 'caught' less than fully dressed with him.
John looks up at Chas while stretching as best he can without falling off the couch. "What, mate? It's our house we can do what we want where want. If you don't want an eye full don't look."
"Yeah, I know John, but in front of the mirror?" Chas responds through clenched teeth.
You gasp at this and tuck my head into John's chest in embarrassment. You had totally forgotten about the mirror! Jasper’s old mill house, where you live with John is a treasure trove of magical artifacts. The mirror that hangs over the fireplace that the couch is in front of is one such artifact. The mirror is out of sync with time and essentially ‘records’ everything that happens in front of it and then reflects it back at a later time. You’re not entirely sure how it ‘decides’ when to actually reflect things back but you’re pretty sure there’s no real way to control it and you’re certain there’s no way to remove a ‘reflection’ from it once it’s happened in front of the mirror.
Chas notices your dismayed reaction, "I can't believe you would trick her into this John, it's a new low even for you!" You can hear the genuine anger in Chas' voice. Chas is generally speaking a big old teddy bear but he does have a dangerous temper.
John starts to object, "Hey now, it's not like that!"
When you look up at Chas his jaw is clenched and he's got a vice grip on the back of the couch. You interject quickly, "No, no! It was me. I picked the couch. John voted for the table but I didn't want that because of the spider. I'm sorry Chas I totally forgot about the mirror." You can feel your cheeks burning bright with a fierce blush. You really had forgotten about the mirror. Oh my gosh, the things you got up to last night and now they're all in the mirror and will replay who knows when, in front of who knows who.
John finally untangles from you, careful to make sure you stay covered under the blanket. He sits on the edge of the couch and grabs a cigarette from the pack on the coffee table in front of the couch, pops it in his mouth and lights up. Cigarette bobbing in his lips, "Honestly mate, the things you think I'm capable of." He stands up, all of him on full display. He looks Chas right in the eye with a cheeky smile on his face, "Who am I to say no to her when she's got her mind set." He looks down at you and winks. Chas huffs and storms off to the kitchen.
"Oh man John, I really did forget about the mirror," you say sitting up, keeping the blanket wrapped around you and running a hand through your hair with anxiety.
"Don't sweat it love. Nothing in there to be ashamed of. Might be fun to sit and watch it when we're old and grey. And if you're worried about it not being a good enough show, well, we can always try again tonight but you know," he wiggles an eyebrow at you, "play to the audience this time."
"John!"
"What? The ships already sailed pet, no taking it back now. Besides it's not like we're hosting parties. Other than you, me and Chas who's gonna see it?"
"We bring people back here sometimes," you say standing up.
John wraps an arm around your shoulder. "Mmm hmm. Still, like I said nothing to be ashamed of." He leans in and whispers in your ear, "Might be fun to see how jealous they'd get when they see how good I've got it."
You give him a playful little jab of your elbow and lean up and kiss him as you head toward the kitchen where you can hear Chas is already busy making breakfast. As you pass the table you ask John, "You're gonna take that spider outside or something later, right?"
"Hmmm, oh yeah sure pet. I'm sure Chas'll take care of it after breakfast."
And that's how John and you accidentally sort of made a sex tape. Well it was an accident the first time at least. Although it does seem unlike that John didn’t realize it at the time, you know, it is John after all.

Crossroads Gone Bad (Ch. 1)
John Constantine/Reader

An ‘atmospheric’ introduction to a story I will probably never actually write - so I figured I’d just go ahead and share this bit.
You're not sure what wakes you, the nag of your bladder or the clanking rattle of the ancient air conditioner in the wall. But you are awake. Constantine's arm is heavy across your back, you snuggle in against him, enjoying the steady rise and fall of his chest under you. Okay fine, you can't ignore the call of your bladder anymore. You slip out from under his arm, careful not to wake him and make your way to the bathroom.
It's one of those old school ma-n-pa motels, where the toilet and shower-bath combos are in a room of their own and the sink is out in the common space. You're happy to have the door to dampen the sound of the flush and you even wash your hands in the tub because you really don't want to wake John; it's been an exhausting few days.
You dry your hands on the towel by the sink and pluck John's white button up off the floor and pull it on. John's not really that much bigger than you but it's still a roomy fit and you tug it in tight around you. It smells of cigarettes and brimstone. It really has a been a heck of a few days
You lean up against the edge of the window frame as you push back the edge of the curtains. This throwback of a motel is lit up like a Christmas tree, neon lights under it's eves, you wonder who the show is for. Despite the electricity bill the gaudy lights persist in throwing their unnatural glow across the gravel parking lot and the old two lane highways outside. The ancient air conditioner rattles on in the wall of the room filling the room with cold, musky air.
You push the curtains back further, the little plastic balls that hold them chinking along in their track. You look back at the bed. John's gone starfish across the bed since you left but doesn't stir at the sound or the electric light that now floods the room. He looks practically otherworldly bathed in the neon colors, the bruises of the day and the physical scars of his hard life washed away under the glare. You can't keep the smile from growing across your face as you watch him. You have no illusions about John's ego and arrogance but he has a body of use not vanity, beautiful and strong. Even asleep and relaxed, brimming with coiled strength, not a 'gym body' just for show and six pack abs.
The air conditioner comes to a loud cluttering stop. You turn your attention back to the window, figure out the lock and slide it open. Crisp cool night air drifts in. You always forget that in dry hot places like this that even on the hottest of days the nights can be pleasant and cool. The neon lights buzz under the eve and you can hear the hum of the new four lane highway a few miles out of town. This time of night it must be mostly long haul truckers, the blood pumping through the veins of America. That blood used to pump through this little town, on the old two lane highway just outside this room. Now only the locals use it, everyone else just speeds by on the big fast new highway and so does the money they used to bring to the businesses here. Pretty much everything in this town is dead. Mainstreet is filled with boarded up storefronts, half the houses look abandoned, pretty much the only things left are this dusty little motel, the post office and all but one the towns gas stations which also now seems to serves as a very limited grocery and convenience store. If you had to guess, that's where the trouble that brought John to this town must have started.
The people that could get out got out. The ones that are left are stuck and with what prospects? You can understand how left behind they must feel, how hopeless and how that could lead some poor soul to the crossroads. You shift your gaze to the crossroads at the corner of the parking lot, where one of the city streets intersects the old highway, probably one of the reasons it's the 'old highway' now. The hairs on the back of your neck stand up and you get a sick feeling in your stomach. The crossroads.
