The Outsider (2002)
"The fever has settled in his chest. Whoever it was said, "only the good die young" never lived in Montana. Laudanum. It will ease his passing. God knows, where he's going, there will be suffering enough."
Montana sheep farmer Rebecca Yoder (Naomi Watts) offers sanctuary to an on-the-lam outlaw, Johnny Gault (Tim Daly), who is suffering from a gunshot wound. Yoder is a recent widow, and her decision to help the outsider doesn't sit well with her Quaker community. As a romance brews between her and Gault, it puts in jeopardy her standing among her devout neighbors. But when an evil rancher makes a play for the community's land, Gault's sharpshooting skills might prove his worth after all.

One of the supervillains mentioned in Jed’s dream was Johnny Sorrow and ngl I had a brief “oh fuck” moment before remembering he’s not in the comic and so this is probably just a cheeky reference.
But, like, Johnny Sorrow would honestly be a really interesting foe to Dream. He’s a similarly esoteric being and actually powerful enough to be a real danger (I mean he whammied the SPECTRE, who I’m pretty sure is at least as powerful as the Endless). His general vibe fits the Sandman pretty well tbh, I wouldn’t be surprised if Gault as a nightmare would be familiar with him.
Honestly it’d be interesting if he and the King of Tears were connected to Despair in some capacity.

That moment when:
You realize that Dream’s initially and incredibly harsh and vindictive treatment of Gault isn’t about Gault herself at all (unlike in the comics—the Nightmare Pair she replaces in the show truly did do exactly what Morpheus accused her of doing), but Dream projecting not just his Rigidly Authoritatian Bullshit to prove he’s Totally In Control, He’s Back (This Is Fine)…
…but his own insecurities and panic about being trapped by his function to execute a vortex or another universe WILL die (and fixing his compassion-driven error to Reset to the current universe is part of how he ended up captured and tortured by Burgess in the first place), as well as his feelings of utter abandonment by his siblings and by 99.98% of his subjects.
Which as is her nature as a “dark mirror” to reveal uncomfortable truths, Gault picks at with righteous fury. She may have created a heroic version of her creator for Jed Walker to play as in his dreams as a respite and to foster courage, but the Dream she has come to know as an Arcana purposely presents as emotionally distant, intentionally rigid, and often cruel with fits of spite or melancholy.
And probably not-at-all coincidentally after Gault chews into him (and is faced with Lucienne’s disapproval and hurt as well), Dream once again remembers to be kind.
Like with Johanna demanding Dream to do something to ease Rachel’s Passing (and later with Johnny Dee who did not deserve such compassion, but receives it, anyway.)
Like with Hob Gadling when he dares call Dream not only his friend, but lonely. And Death reminds Dream to care as part of his Function, even when it hurts; he’s only truly alone when he pushes others away in an effort to not be overwhelmed or hurt yet again
Dream apologizes to Lucienne and grants Gault’s wish while promising to try and be better.
He’s once again gentle with Rose despite what he must do instead of helping her only to the letter but ultimately manipulating her for his own crisis. But with Rose and Unity the damage is already done; and this time he accepts their anger and distrust with grace.

GENE KELLY'S WIFE - is in the news. Here's a press release she put out yesterday:
"In 1958, my late husband, the dancer, director, choreographer Gene Kelly, decided to take on the stigma facing male dancers in an Omnibus television program for NBC that he created and starred in called “Dancing, A Man’s Game.” He hoped that by aligning the great sports stars of the day—Mickey Mantle, Johnny Unitas, Vic Seixas, Sugar Ray Robinson, among others—he could challenge and destroy the shame surrounding male dancers once and for all. For Gene it was more than a professional task. It was, in his words, a personal “crusade” to show that dancers are athletes and that it is okay for a man to be graceful. As he says in the special: “What could be more graceful than a football player throwing a pass—what is more excitingly beautiful than the swift movement of a double play? Every motion a good athlete makes is as beautiful as any a dancer makes.”
Sadly, on August 22, 2019, Good Morning America elected to run a disgraceful segment about Prince George and his ballet classes. That host Lara Spencer would mock a boy’s study of ballet in a nationally televised morning show and that her colleagues would join in her derision is both unacceptable and incomprehensible.
Gene was a classically trained ballet dancer and believed that his training was essential to all that he did. He was schooled in Chicago by a woman named Berenice Holmes who had been the student of the great Russian dancer Adolph Bolm. Gene said that Holmes could perform many complicated turns better than a man, including a double tour en l’air, and that she instructed him to dance with great strength, particularly in his arms. He knew that ballet training gave him the long, beautiful line that he sought in his dancing and, later, in his choreography for the camera that led to some of the seminal films of our time, including On the Town; An American in Paris; Singin’ in the Rain; Brigadoon.
Over the years, Gene advised many professional athletes to study ballet, including former wide receivers Willie Gault and Lynn Swann. Both acknowledge that the training improved their performance on the field. Many have followed suit. Gene would be devastated to know that 61 years after his ground-breaking work the issue of boys and men dancing is still the subject of ridicule—and on a national network.

So one thing I personally love about the Karate Kid movies is that they took place from 1984 - 1985 which means it is PERFECTLY appropriate to use filming locations as the actual places (granted they make sense for the characters, i.e. I doubt Daniel would be riding more than an hour anywhere on his bike). Anyway, I have locations kids!!
- The LaRusso’s house prior to the move is located in Franklin Avenue, Harrison, NJ
- The CanyonPortal Motel, aka the motel that the LaRusso’s stay in for a night, was actually a real place at the time! It has since been replaced by other buildings, but it’s location was 280 N. Hwy. 89A Sedona, AZ, 86336
- South Seas was and is a real place and it’s location is 19223 Saticoy Street, Reseda, CA 91335
- Leo Carrillo State Beach (35000 Pacific Coast Hwy. Malibu, CA, 90265) is where the beach scenes take place with Johnny and Ali and Daniel, etc. Now, granted, on bike, this place is three hours away, but by car it’s under an hour, and I believe Daniel carpooled with Freddy. Ooh, and a fun fact, this was the same beach used for the beach scenes at the beginning of Grease (1978) with Sandy and Danny
- West Valley High is located at 5607 Capistrano Avenue, Woodland Hills, CA 91367. Now, I know West Valley still exists as the kids attend it now, but, in positives, there’s actually nothing in that location?? Like there’s an abandoned building and that’s pretty much it?? So therefore West Valley can still live on in that location
- The original Cobra Kai dojo was located at 5223 Lankershim Boulevard, North Hollywood, CA, 91601 and the Orient Express Restaurant was located across the road at 5225 Lankershim Boulevard, North Hollywood, CA, 91601. Now, with the restaurant, the actual location of where it was filmed was another half hour away, give or take, but it makes more sense for it to be here, as not only is the building similar and across the road from the dojo filming location (the main one anyway), but it makes more sense for Daniel to get there from the apartment on his bike (approx 1hr ride)
-  The Mills’ house was and still is located at 4072 Alonzo Avenue, Encino, CA, 91316
- Mr Miyagi’s house does not have an exact address, although is located somewhere between Vose Street and Gault Street, Canoga Park, CA, 91303
- And Golf N’ Stuff, which is still alive today, is located at 10555 Firestone Boulevard, Norwalk, CA, 90650
Now, other places I don’t have any exact locations yet but as I move through the movies and rewatch the show for the millionth time, I’ll try my best to pinpoint where they are (it’s just a lot more difficult with CK because most of the locations they filmed were in GA instead of CA so, yeah)

Finally picked up Torian Cadera with my bounty hunter. And of course I’m going to love him in part because he’s voiced by Johnny Yong Bosch. Too bad he looks like he’s barely twenty though -- hopefully he has a thing for much older women since my BH is at least mid thirties lol.
Tumblr media
(She’s thrilled on the inside. I also think I inadvertently made her look like Vanessa Williams with the character builder...)
I’m enjoying the BH story and it’s great you get you snark your way through it like you can with Smuggler.  The companions are cool so far (Gault has some of the best lines and Blizz is so damned cute).  The game is a bit more satisfying now that I’m only doing class missions and heroics -- I’ve done the planet quests so many times now that it’s boring and makes each planet a slog to get through.  I can always go back and do them later on if I want.

If you could pick any voice actors for your main OCs, who would they be and who would they voice?
RUBS MY HANDS TOGETHER!! THIS IS MY SHIT!!
(first and foremost. THANK YOU. secondly. in the event that TBB ever got an animated series, I would do my best to cast VAs with less exposure, and Id cast them as racially accurate as possible.)
that said, I have some fun ideas for well known VAs too!!
Skiye - she has a very formal manner of speaking and an almost singsong lilt to her voice. Cristina Vee maybe?
Sam - she has a deeper, rougher voice than Skiye, and ive always had a harder time imagining a VA for her. I reckon either Katelyn Gault for that Fenneko voice, or Bryn Apprill!
Cal - MICHAEL RAGE QUIT JONES (or Billy Kametz)
Nick - there’s a TON of VAs i reckon could do Nick’s voice!! his voice is pretty deep, a little raspy/husky. first one that comes to mind is Jason Liebrecht bc his voice for dabi is freakin spot on. otherwise... Cody Christian, Ray Chase or Ian Sinclair come close!
bonus aguilars:
Alex - Johnny Yong Bosch, he does an adorable voice for TK!!
Rosa - Allegra Clark!!
Seb - Newton Pittman (another option for Nick but i could list those all day shfshd)

when did this start happening? dream @ dealer's choice
In the back of the Gravedigger's mind, someone is sobbing, frightened. Another is curious but wary, glad to let Graves take the lead on this. Others are indifferent, or suspicious. The Gravedigger, for his part, reserves judgment. He has heard through the dreaming grapevine that Morpheus is changed, these days, that his time in captivity altered him He has met proof of that change in Gault. Her new purpose gives him hope.
The difference, of course, is that Gault was changed by Lord Morpheus, and she is still herself. The Griefbringers are something else entirely.
"We shattered about two years after I entered the Waking, lord. You'd been gone many years by then. The original thought to... to experience life in the Waking world, and paid for it."
Granted, that hadn't been him, not really, but it's close enough. For all that Johnny-Come-Lately resembles the original in appearance, function, and personality--in terms of memory? The Gravedigger is the closest they've got. It's hard to untangle, even for Graves, what's left of the original. Whether it's him or it's Johnny that counts.
"Split into two at first. Me and Johnny. Then more. Time went on and things... kept happening. Couldn't really stop it." He can feel Dream looking at him and doesn't like it. Graves turns his head away, the massive skull swinging to the side. The fractures and cracks in his skin and skull glow a dull gold, pulsing like a heartbeat. "Serves us right for leaving. We should have stayed, waited..."
(are you... lying to him? everyone else left, we're not the only ones...
i'm not lying. call it tactical deference.)
"No more pieces breaking off since we came back, lord-shaper, and we still serve the same purpose... more or less."
