**Hi! I got this request a couple of weeks ago and there was some conversation about it. I was also made aware that this idea has been done before but I haven't read any of those stories so take this just as my spin on the premise. And enjoy reading! ❤️**

Everyone loved love stories like yours. The childhood friends that separated only to meet again and become a couple. And you loved it too…until you didn’t.

Mason was the love of your life. You’ve known him since you were a baby, really. And probably fell in love with him when you were only 5. But there were a lot of moments in your life where you had to separate because he moved to London, and then he went to The Netherlands for a year, …and it was tough to see him leave you behind but you understood. Everyone just expected you to get over your crush and move on at some point. But you didn’t. And one time when he came back home to visit his family, he finally confessed he felt the same way about you.

That had been 2 years ago. 24 months of happiness by your soulmate’s side…or so people thought. Because after the first year, the cracks in your relationship started to show.

“Are you even happy?”, asked you one of your friends when you confessed to her that you and Mason had been having problems.

“Of course. I couldn’t ask for anything better. I have a good job, family is healthy and I’m dating the best guy”.

“Tell that to your fake smile. Honey…I’m not looking forward to you two breaking up knowing how that would break your heart but you aren’t happy. You’re arguing all the time, even in front of people. You look so sad and I want you to go back to how you used to be. I know it’s hard to let go of your first love but sometimes it’s for the best”.

“I…”.

“I know. Just think about it. Think about the pros and cons. And try and take the best decision for you. Because that’s who matters, you. You always put everyone else before you and it needs to stop”.

And she was right, of course she was. So that was why after another big fight over the stupidest thing, you finally put yourself first.

“We can’t do this anymore, Mason”.

“What do you mean?”

“This. Us. It’s destroying us. We are always fighting and we barely see each other so…how is that living? I feel like if maybe we stop now, we could at least save our friendship. Maybe even try this out again in the future. When we’re in different places in our lives”.

His look was of pure shock, mixed with anger. He really wasn’t used to being told something like this.

“Do you not love me?”

“I love you too much, Mason. Too much to force you, and to force me, to stay in this toxic relationship. We’re hurting each other”.

“Is there someone else?”

He had to be kidding.

��No! There is no one else! See? We can’t even talk without you turning everything into a fight!”

“Because you’re giving up on me. On us”.

“Someone has to. Before we destroy each other”.

And with those final words, you left him there. It broke your heart, but you knew you were doing the right thing.

What you needed in that moment was a fresh start and your job provided you with one. Most people couldn’t believe that you were willing to move from London to Manchester. To a smaller office and a smaller position in the company. But you just couldn’t stay in London anymore. Manchester wasn’t that far away but…it was better. The distance helped.

And the city also had something else waiting for you to help mend your broken heart. Well, not a something but a someone.

“Sorry”, you heard someone say in the middle of Sainsbury’s. “I know this sounds weird but I’ve seen you here shopping a few times and it’s driving me insane not knowing where I know you from”.

You looked up at the man talking to you and he looked familiar too. And when you looked at him properly, you knew exactly why he thought he knew you.

“Who’s that looking at us? He looks familiar”.

Mason turned to see who you meant and rolled his eyes. “Rúben Dias. He plays for City and I met him once at an F1 GP”.

“Right”.

You remembered that GP. Because you were supposed to attend with him but a big fight a few days prior made you stay home. Another plan ruined by your fights.

The man, Rúben, approached you to say hello to your boyfriend.

“Hi Mason, how are you?”

“Good, thanks. We need to go. See you later”.

“Ok?”

Rúben’s confusion at Mason’s behaviour mirrored yours.

“Why were you so rude to him?”

“How could I not be? He’s been staring at you the whole time”.

“Mason”, you said with a sigh. “He doesn’t know me. If anything, he would have been staring at you”.

“I’m not the one wearing that dress”.

“I thought you liked this dress. You bought it for me”.

“I like it. I don’t like guys drooling around you when you wear it”.

You were tired. Too tired. And not ready for another argument in front of so many people. So you just let the comment slide…there would be time to fight about it once you two were back home.

“You’re Rúben, right?”

“So you know me too?”, he laughed. “Now I’m even more confused. But also intrigued. Please put me out of my misery”.

You laughed as well. “We saw each other at an event months ago. I was there with Mason Mount”.

“Oh”, you could tell the moment when it all clicked. “I remember now”.

“We aren’t together anymore”.

“Good”.

His words surprised you. Why would he say that?

“I mean. I only know the guy from playing against him and partying together once but when I saw him with you…no one deserves to be treated like that”.

“I know. That’s why I left”.

The way he smiled at you reminded you of how your friend had when you told her about leaving Mason. They both looked proud of you.

After that chat in the supermarket, you promised to meet again. It would be good for you to have a friend in Manchester that wasn’t just someone from your office.

Rúben ended up being someone you could talk to, someone who could help you, someone who understood you like no one had before. So falling for him was just something inevitable.

And everything was perfect but still…you worried. Rúben had to play against Mason. And, even if he respected your wish to be private, one day you’d have to tell the world you were together. And the reaction from Mason worried you. But also, what about his family? His fans? Even random people just judging you for dating two football players…facing everyone’s opinions terrified you.

“You need to stop”, mumbled Rúben.

“What do I need to stop? I thought you were sleeping”.

“I was, but the light from your screen woke me up. You’re addicted, my love. Wait until you leave the bed to check social media”.

You laughed at his complaint. He was right and you knew it but it was hard to change some habits.

It was when you were about to block your phone to enjoy your boyfriend’s kisses that you saw it.

Mason Mount agrees personal terms with Manchester United.

The phone fell from your hands and that caught Rúben’s attention. “So clumsy. See? Another reason to not be on your phone in bed”, he laughed. “We don’t want it to fall on your pretty face”.

“Mason is going to sign for United”.

“Huh?”

You showed the article to him.

“It’s ok”, he tried to reassure you.

“It just complicates things more…”.

“It doesn’t if we don’t allow it to. Your ex is moving to this city, big deal. It’s big enough for the three of us, I swear”.

“But he’ll play for United…”.

“It’s not as if he’s signing for City. That would be a bit trickier, not gonna lie. But I’ve played against him this season and it was fine”.

“Ok, I’ll believe you. But I have a bad feeling about this”.

The feeling never left you but…nothing happened. Mason moved to Manchester and didn’t even try to contact you. He was living his own life while you lived yours.

That was…until things changed.

On a Wednesday off with no matches, you and Rúben made your way to Bruno Fernandes’ house. The Portuguese players sometimes hosted a little get-together to catch up, even if they played for rival teams. You were literally the only non-Portuguese there but they still made you feel like one of them.

But people didn’t get they could be friends and rivals at the same time, so you kept those meetings private. Private like Bruno’s private Instagram account where he posted a story where you were seating next to Rúben. His arm was around your shoulder to bring you closer to him and the smiles on your faces couldn’t be bigger.

Bruno didn’t have many followers on that private account because that way he could make sure no one leaked anything private to the press. But he let his teammates follow him. And that meant that Mason was now following his account. So on that Wednesday night, when he was scrolling on Instagram totally bored, he saw the story. He saw you and Rúben together. And no one could see that photo and not know you two were a couple.

However, he didn’t call you to ask for an explanation. He didn’t tell Bruno about it either, to try and get information from his teammate. He waited until he had to meet Rúben at the Manchester derby to do something.

“Are you the reason she broke up with me?”, he said when the players were about to go out to warm up.

“I don’t know how you’ve found out but leave her alone”.

“Answer my question”.

“I didn’t know her then so no, I wasn’t the reason why she left you. It was all your doing”.

“What do you know about our private life?”

“Enough to want to smash your face against a wall but I won’t do it because it’s not worth it. And now she is with someone who treats her the way she deserves to be treated. That’s all that matters to me”.

Mason didn’t like that answer. At all. And so he spent the whole match trying to provoke Rúben to get a reaction from him but found none. The only thing he found was his way to the bench in the second half, after being told off by his coach for not focusing on the match.

“Shaw needs to do the post-match interviews”, said one of the media people.

“He’s injured and receiving treatment. Send someone else”.

“I’ll do it”, said Mason and no one thought much of it.

The Sky Sports reporter asked him all the same boring questions he was so used to answering. But she also asked the one he was waiting for.

“We also saw you seemed to have some issues with Rúben Dias. It almost seemed personal”, she laughed.

“It was. He stole my girl after all”.

The reporter’s jaw almost hit the floor but Mason didn’t allow her to recover and ask more questions before leaving.

When you saw the clip on social media, you felt like you were going to faint. Rúben saw it too and tried to get back home as fast as possible. For once, you weren’t in the stadium with him. Now he was happy you were nowhere near your ex.

“I can’t believe he did that”, was all you said when he got home.

And he knew words meant nothing at that point, so he just hugged you while you cried. Waiting for you to let all the tears out.

“What do you want to do?”, he finally said.

“What do you mean?”

“Do you want us to respond? I could get my team to write everything before we publish it to make sure it’s well written. Or we could not say anything. He doesn’t get to change how we handle our relationship”.

“You should probably deny what he said. Your reputation…”.

“You think I care about my reputation right now?”, asked Rúben. And you had never seen him looking so serious. “I promised he would never make you cry again and look at you right now”.

“You can’t protect me from everything, Rúben”.

“Why?”

That finally made you laugh. “Because that’s how life is. And it’s not your fault. It’s only his”.

After debating what was the best strategy to follow, you decided to make your relationship public. Well, it already was thanks to Mason. But you were now able to tell your side of the story.

It was a long post where you mentioned breaking up with Mason before moving to Manchester, where you met Rúben. You made it clear there had been no cheating involved, which was very important for you. Cheaters made you sick so being compared to one was the worst feeling. And you just basically made it clear that you and Rúben still planned to keep a low profile and asked for people not to invade your privacy.

Even after that post, you expected to get a lot of abuse on social media. But what you didn’t expect was to get a message from Mason.

[Mason]: I’m sorry about what I did. Can we please talk? No tricks. I just need to talk to you.

“Rúben? You need to see this”.

“I guess I can understand that. But it’s not like I did it on purpose. My life would be a lot easier dating an average Joe, you know?”

“Easier maybe, but not better, right? I saw how happy you looked with him. You never looked that happy with me”.

“I was happy…”, you tried to defend yourself but he lifted a hand to stop you.

“But not that happy. And I’m glad you are. I’m glad you found someone who can make you smile like that”.

“Then why did you try and shame me in front of millions of people?”

“Because I felt shame myself. Shame about how it all ended for us. Shame that it wasn’t me who made you happy. But I’ve made my peace. Next time I talk to the media I’ll tell them I lied. You deserve to keep smiling the way he makes you smile instead of all the tears I caused”.

Talking about a ship for me is complicated because the feeling that I might be missing something or extrapolating too much. But still, I want to talk about Kafka/Blade.

Since HSR is a gacha, the chances of playable characters having romantic relationships are very low, so the fans have to pick the crumbs. Sometimes it’s pretty much obvious the devs want certain characters together, but the hand of the gacha business model holds them back. Other times, not really, maybe the devs are really aiming for platonic or other. And, of course, fans are free to interpret their own. So, I’m here to give my interpretation of KafBlade, why it called my attention.

From their interactions, they are working together and they have a level of affection: Kafka calls him Bladie (and he’s upset if others call him by that), Blade loves hearing her singing and is receptive to her whispers; they also seem to have good synergy in the battlefield. It also works in accomplishing missions, with Kafka’s lack of fear making her prone to injuries and Blade acting as her immortal bodyguard. Plus, there’s the implication they had to fake being a couple for a mission, which I hope it never gets a full flashback because imagining how it went is funnier. How they complement each other is what makes them so interesting.

They are both fundamentally broken people. We know Blade’s story, but it’s pretty implied Kafka has some tragedy in the closet (with Blade commenting he doesn’t want to see her sad; would it really be surprising?). And, they are villains after all.

But still, what I see in them is how they can still experience with each other things that they couldn’t imagine to experience or that they thought that they’d never experience. For example, Kafka is a liar. It’s a strength in her job, to the point even when she’s telling the truth it still feels she’s lying. She uses her whispers to dominate men and then discard them when they’ve done their jobs. She goes full “nothing personnel, kid”, because for her everything is just a job.

And then, one day, appears a guy who’s like “can you do that again?” A guy who wants to be whispered, whose lies sooth and motivate him. And then she learns he’s an immortal that wants to die and then she decides that she’ll help, but that she will strive to make his life more fun until that day because he amuses you. She has no feelings for him, because she has no feelings at all (or are very different from what normal people think to be); either she wasn’t born with them or the organization she learned her skills remove them, but still she just wants to make him feel good about his journey to death.

Blade is similar: he wants revenge. He crafted his entire life and used all his bladesmith skills to pursue that goal; it’s easy to imagine him forgoing everything, his feelings, his self-care, eating whatever slop he puts on his face, a very miserable life. And then one day a woman appears saying “join me” and she’s actually…fun to be around. Sure, they are using each other to their respective objectives, but there’s something more to it. He starts to pick her habits and helps her whenever she needs carry her stuff. And then he starts to wonder that, yes, his life sucks, but it sucks a bit less with her around. The blade he crafted for revenge can be used to protect, unexpectedly.

It should be noted that the devs already had opportunities to portray their relationship as toxic and abusive, but they haven’t. I’m not sure I’d call healthy either, but there seems to be a mutual respect and trust about them. I mean, they are dangerous (along with the rest of the Stellaron Hunters, Silverwolf, Sam and Elio himself (it’d be really funny if he was the cat)), but still it’s not hard to imagine them as a found family. We have to wait for future updates to see how they’ll be developed, but their Team Rocket dynamic with the heroes is fun.

One last thing is how I think it’s funny that KafBlade is “what if Gojo and Marin (from My Dress Up Darling) were evil?”. Kafka is the extroverted girl that loves shopping and fashion, while Blade is the recluse artist, but that grew bitter - as Yingxing, he was one the best bladesmiths of the Xianzou, he knows what beauty is (also please read the fanfic “dal segno al fine”, it really captures this side of his) – and would be reluctant even if Kafka’s feelings were like Marin’s; Kafka would have to have a lot of patience, but I think she’s not one to give up once she set up a goal.

I didn’t really review their text and quotes, I’m remembering all of it in the game and some comments in the internet. Even so, I wonder if others share these thoughts on them, especially the fact they bring out things that were previously kinda buried in each other, so it has potential for a more mature love story.

The Horde and Toxic Strength - Lonnie

(Post where I go on way too long about the Horde's ideals of Strength HERE.)

LONNIE

Status: STRONG

Lonnie is, first and foremost, someone who knows what side her bread is buttered on. She's unambiguously 'Strong', and - as somone who values that status - engages with the role far more deliberately and consciously than, say, Adora does.

Lonnie is acutely aware of the biases in the system; she knows that Adora is the Designated Winner in their creche, and that being better than her is just going to earn you a drubbing. So she doesn't try. If Adora is destined to win, then it's Lonnie's job to make that happen.

Lonnie never challenges Adora; instead, she spends her time removing roadblocks and lining up shots, then fading into the background while Adora score the winning goal. She works to reinforce the system, and she is rewarded for it. She gets to be the second-in-command, and be included in the camaraderie. She gets to make Kyle do all her shit work. Not being the Designated Winner even means she gets to be buffered against directly dealing with Shadow Weaver.

The also underlies her interactions with Catra, because Catra is one of those roadblocks Lonnie is responsible for removing. Catra's tactics don't actually matter - the fact that she is endangering Adora's status as The Winner is, in an of itself, "fighting dirty". It's breaking the system, and putting them all at risk.

That's where this bit of hostility comes from, too; with Adora gone, there's a hole in their group's power structure. Lonnie isn't saying this because she has a personal vendetta against Catra, she's doing it to try and stabilize the situation - to prevent Catra from rocking the boat when they're already in middle of a metaphorical storm.

She adjust (relatively) smoothly to Catra's unexpected promotion largely because she doesn't actually hate Catra. Sure, she's shocked, but after that initial outburst she more-or-less realigns herself like the good little soldier she is.

Which isn't to say she likes Catra. Their relationship remains prickly for several reasons - Lonnie has her own feelings of betrayal and abandonment to work though, Catra doesn't do camaraderie - but Lonnie actually tries really hard to make it work, because Catra is now the Designated Winner, and supporting the system is what she's always done.

The thing that ultimately fractures Lonnie's loyalty to the system (and thus to Catra) isn't so much that Adora left (though she did) or that S4 Catra is a bad boss (although she is); it's Lonnie processing that (a) The system never cared about loyalty, only it's use as a tool of control/self-perpetuation and (b) This doesn't means she has to not care about it.

Bonus head-canons/errata:

Lonnie would have backed off immediately and tried a different tack if Adora had ever gotten even slightly snarly about bullying Catra. Lonnie read the lack of confrontation as an implicit endorsement(and was not wrong to do so), even if Adora didn't parse it that way.

Post-series, Lonnie is probably still really angry with Adora, even if she's mostly processed her feelings about Catra. Think in terms of bad bosses: The one who mandated daily overtime and denied sick days is the one who made you quit. They sucked, but they never promised to be other than what they were, and at least you got to end the relationship on your own terms. But the boss who went on and on about being a family, and promised raises just as soon as you were over this hump, and then fucked off a week before Christmas with everyone's paychecks (and who never came back for you)? That's the one you resent.

An extreme Oath of Deflection Redemption Paladin

BRENNAN: Luis was like, “Hey man, I am making a man who is strongly convicted. These are his convictions. This is what a paladin is.” One of the smartest things 5e as a system did is when it moved paladins from being wisdom casters to charisma casters. Because it made me realize why you don’t want to base morality in charisma. Because you’re like, “The only thing the world needs is redemption, and I’m going to do it every day! No matter how many people get hurt, or how badly it goes, or how many times the world tries to tell me it’s not working!”

MARISHA: Wouldn’t call that wisdom.

BRENNAN: Everyone is redeemable. You, are you the right guy for the job? Are you this person who can do this thing, in this moment? Zerxus took this universal truth about everyone can be saved, and didn’t see the bridge to, “I can save anybody.” That never occurred to him, like, "Am I the guy for the job?". I thought that was so beautifully done.

LUIS: I don’t think every redemption paladin needs to be played this way, but again, I wanted to play one to the extreme, and that was part of the flaw that I had embedded in it. I was like, “This is an incredibly toxic trait.”

PCs with children (in the Apocalypse!) and other familial relationships

BRENNAN: I love doing any familial relationships, siblings, parents, children. Because people are like gems. They have facets to them, and some of them only get exposed within certain relationships. So you need certain things to see certain sides of people.

What the story has to say

BRENNAN: In the terms of the bookending of it all, it was really significant to me that Laerryn used her Leywright to save Exandria, and that Zerxus used his cleansing redemption power to get Vespin back for a moment. Because I didn’t want the story to say, “Science is bad and innovation is bad and compassion is bad.” I wanted the story to say something more nuanced. It didn’t work in this instance for these reasons. The fact that both of you guys, after blighting the tree, after pulling the Lord of the Hells through, got to say, “Here is a chance to show what I mean by this,” was very cool.

btw love your Jaime takes! Was wondering what your thoughts on his dream of Rhaegar with Brienne? i personally find it fascinating and super important for his development.. his family meaning Cersei and Tywin are toxic influences he must leave behind so that he can grow as his own person while Brienne clearly plays a role in this. I also find it sad to see his regret and guilt about the death of Rhaegars family. Can’t help but wonder what the glowing swords mean? Do you think he has a role to play in the long night? I feel like he might but there’s also the valonqar prophecy to consider?

a jaime question we are back in business!!!

I have a lot of thoughts on Jaime's weirwood dream and maybe more than I can contain within one ask but here's my rough breakdown:

section one where Jaime finds Cersei, Tywin & assorted Lannisters I think quite straightforwardly these are the people that Jaime once thought defined who he was: his father, his sister, and the name they all share. but he finds himself quickly abandoned by both Tywin and Cersei who offer him no comfort, and leave him Naked and AfraidTM with no Lannister strength or support. He's effectively just one man in the dark and all that he had left to give his life and identity meaning is gone

section two where Brienne shows up Jaime finds meaning in Brienne!! when he'd lost all strength, hope and dignity, Brienne practically raised him from the dead by demonstrating all he could be and recalling what he had once wanted to be - he finds both his past and future self in Brienne. we also see a supportive and reciprocal relationship between them that was absent with the Lannisters - Jaime frees Brienne from chains, Brienne helps Jaime through the dark. and the dark is gone now: there's new clarity and hope since Brienne has arrived. and obviously we see Jaime's developing feelings for her through 'she could almost be a beauty/she could almost be a knight/it seemed to Jaime she had more of a woman's shape now' - like he's seeing her for the first time again since his 'rebirth' in Harrenhal, and is starting to put together new feelings without quite understanding what they are yet.

section three: Rhaegar and the lads firstly: think it's interesting that Jaime first mistakes Rhaegar in the distance for Ned. we'll come back to that.

but anyway I think the conversation with Rhaegar and the OG kingsguard is Jaime perhaps fully acknowledging for the first time how much that ~fateful day~ in King's Landing truly pains and guilts him - it's not something he can laugh off. we've only up till then seen him confidently state that killing Aerys was the best thing he ever did, and since hearing his side of the story the audience now agrees -but the KG's words show that Jaime still has a confused sense of guilt over it, and has not forgotten Rhaegar's kids either. he still cares about doing the right thing, and feels crushed by the idea that when he was given the chance to do it, perhaps he chose wrong.

I also think it's v interesting that Rhaegar's kids are prominent here, especially considering the earlier appearance of Ned which I think is interesting twofold. first, I think Jaime thought Ned had no right to judge him but that the KG do. second, I think that Ned's children are the new Rhaegar's children. granted Jaime has done a pretty fucking appalling job of 'protecting Ned's children' so far (like he almost couldn't have done worse lmao) BUT they are now what I think will take Rhaenys and Aegon's place in his mind. perhaps he can do right if he can save at least one of those kids. this right now is his second chance.

what do the glowing swords mean all sorts i reckon. hope. honour. legacy. life. I think Jaime's sword guttering out at the end of the dream isn't a foreshadowing of his losing his life at any particular time in the future, but rather the sign that right now, he has nothing to keep that flame alight - Rhaegar and co condemn him to darkness as they tell him he's done nothing to earn the light, and Jaime, in his panic, wakes up. and knows what he has to do to reignite it - hence rushing back to Brienne.

I don't think the valonqar prophecy comes into it because this was something that GRRM added at the VERY end of writing AFFC so it wouldn't factor into the weirwood dream in ASOS. I don't know that the dream suggests much about the long night either though I do think he'll have some kind of role??? depends what the TLN ultimately looks like but I am sure that GRRM means to reassemble the majority of the main POVs there and Jaime will surely be one of them, as will Bri.

I-I thought this was a comedy?!

But in all seriousness, the "Mom" episode of Abbott Elementary does an excellent job at capturing a particular dynamic between a mother and a daughter that is toxic to its very core.

It's been hinted at in the past that Janine's mother Vanetta wasn't exactly the best parent, so to see her materialize on screen as this kind of...person was a kind of revelation. Because now we've encountered the real Vanetta and seen her for the type of mother she's been to Janine all these years. The one looking to her daughter to parent her instead of the other way around.

I mean, we all know this but Janine's definitely a people pleaser, always trying to fix things even if it comes at the cost of her own wellbeing. So it makes sense now seeing her interact with her mother why she ended up being the way she is. Maybe I'm making a leap here, but the "love" her mom has seems conditional at best? It's just not a healthy relationship at all regardless.

And Barbara immediately recognizing what kind of mother Vanetta is to Janine and stepping in so quickly even if she knows she might be overstepping...that to me is just *chef's kiss*.

Melissa said something about not getting involved in another family's business unless it's on Yelp and it's to go against a competing family or something.

But see, Janine is family. She's a part of Barbara's work family, at least. And as much as she tries to keep her own boundaries with Janine (which imo is healthy to do), sometimes you have to stick up for your family.

And then after all that giving Janine tips about her upcoming trip, making sure not to have too much cash, but also have it, etc. That's saying "I love you" without saying it explicitly. It's like a close friend telling you to "text me when you get home" after a fun outing, or your younger brother getting you donuts while you were at the podiatrist for your sprained ankle and then immediately making fun of your cast when he picks you up from said podiatrist...

That's the kind of love Abbott Elementary's characters share with each other. They don't say it outloud because well, 1. that's probably an HR violation somewhere and 2. they don't need to.

But I digress.

It was so heartening to see Barbara step in to stand up for Janine, but even more so seeing Janine stand up for herself and set these boundaries with her mother. S1 Janine wouldn't have done this, I don't think, and I love this growth we're seeing for her.

(I have a theory Barbara was a lot like Janine earlier in her career as a teacher and Melissa acted as a kind of balance for her the way Gregory is to Janine and--ok ok I'll stop lmao).

Also, as someone equally as terrible at small talk if not entirely incapable, I truly appreciate seeing Gregory struggle with that. #representation

So to recap:

Prentiss's entire character this season is wrapped up in Being the Boss. We never see her outside of work or hear about anything she has going on outside of work. She doesn't really interact with the team in a friend capacity anymore.

JJ's arc this season has been all about her and Will's relationship adjusting to new things, like them aging and things like illness becoming a problem, time and complacency lulling them into forgetting to spend time together, and theor kids growing up and being far more aware of their jobs and what those jobs entail. Frankly this is the only arc this season that doesn't make me want to eat glass.

Rossi has been robbed of all the warmth and mischief that made him so fun as a character. He's a mean old man, and tbh his character feels like it belongs in a far grittier crime procedural than the one he's in. I'll give credit where it's due and admit that at least in his case there's a reason for the change that makes sense, and Joe Mantegna is absolutely killing every scene where they give him more to do than glare at everything. But it's still pretty shitty of them to write him a whole speech about how he has nothing left when he has a wholeass daughter and grandson out there who presumably still love and miss him.

Tara is possibly the second most egregious character assassination by this mess of a season. Gone is the driven, determined woman who takes no shit from anyone, is fiercely dedicated to her work, and will leave a toxic love interest in the dust without flinching. This Tara's spark has been replaced by the glow of new love, but that glow quickly soured for me when the writers had Tara's girlfriend Rebecca issue an ultimatum Tara couldn't comply with even if she wanted to, and then dump her for things she couldn't actually control. Then, instead of Tara telling her to go fuck herself like she should have done, they had Tara pine after her to the point of neglecting her job and apologize for revealing that Rebecca's whole career was built on arresting and imprisoning the wrong man. OG Tara would have shed deadweight Becky like a bad jacket, but "Evolved" Tara? She doesn't even correct the woman when she pronounces her name wrong!

Luke's character is criminally underutilized this season, though given what's been done to the characters who got attention from the writers, I'm beginning to think I ought to be glad of that. We've learned nothing really new about his character this season except that he and Penelope went on their date, and it was awkward, and they never tried again. Adam is doing the most for us with his facial expressions this season, but even that only twists the knife in context. Which brings me to...

Garcia. Oh my god, Penelope, what have these bastards DONE to you? At first I was excited to see how Penelope had changed, having gained a centered assertiveness that she lacked in the original show while still remaining the ultimately caring, compassionate person we all knew and loved. But then the writers decided that "leaving a job that was ultimately a form of self-harm in the name of heroics" meant "pursuing what feels good at the cost of all else," and in the course of a few episode Penelope went from my all-time favorite member of the BAU to someone I can barely stand to watch. From sleeping with a material witness (something she knows is wrong on multiple levels, as she warned Derek about getting too involved with witnesses and victims' families years ago) and putting the entire BAU at risk, to the frankly callous and cruel way she treats Luke like an afterthought with no feelings to hurt at every turn, the "Evolved" Penelope is a selfish, irresponsible, reckless person that I want far away from the rest of the BAU before she can do them any more damage.

literal definition of when you try to tell your mom a joke and it completely backfires-- like literally just laugh it's not that deep

armin is really good at making you second guess yourself too

you're almost convinced his favorite phrase is "i never said that."

all in all, he might not actually mean to gaslight you but he can't stand possibly being the one to blame

he's such a people-pleaser and doesn't want to upset you in any way but it starts to get annoying when you want to have a serious conversation

even conversations about your mental health he'll try and change the subject because he wouldn't know what to say to you

you can try and corner him by talking to him in the car, right before you go to bed, etc. but it doesn't work

he's not great at communicating so he also doesn't really open up to you

this leads to a lot of unresolved "fights"

well, you try to fight

or you both just have angry sex

levi ackerman

isn't very nice to customer service employees

not on purpose, obviously

but sometimes he just doesn't realize he's being an asshole

it's not like he says super mean things right off the bat, but if a waiter gets your order wrong at a restaurant he wouldn't hesitate to say "that's not what they ordered. you really had one job, go back and have them fix it... please."

only says please when he sees you glaring at him

overall he's just very short and to the point and it comes off as cold and hateful

and he doesn't necessarily mean to come off that way, he just doesn't understand how hurtful his tone can be

you usually have to do the talking for him at restaurants or stores since you don't want to risk him accidentally saying something rude

he doesn't mind you speaking for him at all though-- the less talking he has to do the better

Of course she doesn't try to hurt your feelings.. she just loves pissing you off, and she just.. does. not. stop.

Some, of course are out of pure pettiness. she is a bit toxic when it comes to these things but you know what? let's not mention that.

I see her as someone who would blame her own mistakes on other people. And if you make one,,, God, she. does. NOT. SHUT. UP.

"Damn! I thought we didn't even have a (your role)! Since noooo one was doing (your job)! If it weren't for me we wouldn't been able to even do (insert)!"

Things like that, she might even lash out at you for things like that. Of course, regretting it right after. She hates admitting when she's wrong.

"If you did (insert) then we would have won!"

"If only I wasn't chosen to work with you."

"Wow, you really think that would've worked? Pfft- please."

Fade:

In all honesty, I'm not so sure what her toxic trait is, since we don't know a lot about her like we do with the others.

But,, my version of fade can't let go of the past. Having a hard time to forgive other people, constantly reminding them of what they've done (to herself) so it won't happen again.

Her forgiving them and then they just repeat it.

She won't be mean to your friends, but if you ever decide to introduce her to them she won't consider them as her friends. Just nodding along to what they have to say. I don't think she'd listen much or has any interest in them.

Of course she tries to, but if they are or, were. a bad person I don't think she'd care much. she'd wonder why you'd ever be friends with someone like that but.. she doesn't say that out loud.

If she feels as if any of your friends might do any of those things, to you or to her, no matter how different it is. If it's even the slightest bit close to the things she's experienced she won't get along with them well.

Making it hard for her to get along with others, of course, she does with a few. I mean there's you, but she's too cautious and careful. (A little less because of you though!) Scared to get hurt the same way she was before. She, of course isn't so vocal about it.

She's just too cautious around said friend.

If your friend has done something bad in the past, i mean who hasn't? But she'll keep it in mind.

If your friend decides to say anything slightly offending to you or to her, she'll bark back. And it won't be pretty.

"Oh? You don't like the way i (insert)? In all honesty, I don't care. As if I'd ever care about someone's "opinions", especially yours."

She won't remind them of their past or use their abilities on her UNLESS they give her reason to, though.

Goodluck getting her to befriend someone. It probably took you a long time to get her to even try and consider you as a friend, you think they will with your friends too?

I'm sorry to say this but, she's from a filipino family. Although, I won't say her family is super toxic but.. since there is a generation gap with her older family members.. i think they'd be a bit, just a bit insensitive. (Very insensitive.)

Maybe they were a bit ignorant to her feelings. You know how regular filipino households are, dapat nangiti ka lang, kababae mong tao palaging nasimangot. (You should only be smiling, you're a girl but you're always frowning.) Is what i think she'd hear often.

If a friend hurt you by accident or you had a fight with them, chances are she'd give reasons as to why they would've done it instead of comforting you.

"Have you,, done something to them recently? You know, to make them act like this? I'm not saying you did but maybe you have."

"Why are you sad? You know it's not good to always be sad. Cheer up, come on. Let's go sing sa (at the) karaoke bar next street! I know you want to."

"Maybe they were in a bad mood or something happened to them. There's a lot of reasons to why they could have done that, it's just a fight... It happens a lot."

Reyna:

I feel like she'd be the type to decide things for you, including you in plans you never even wanted to be in. Saying yes to going to events and stuff without your permission.

She decides for you, she thinks she knows what you want. Sometimes it gets to the point you can't even talk for yourself.

She always guesses what you want and even finishes your own sentences for you! And when you confront her about it she just says something about wanting to do things for you.

It sometimes even gets to the point where you think she sees another version of you and loves another version of you and not you. But how can you even confront her when she guesses what you want to say before you can even finish?

"There is no need, Mi amor. I already did it for you. You don't need to worry."

"we're going to the event, remember? Did i not tell you? Raze invited us so i figured we'd join. I already knew you want to so i agreed."

"they don't want that. Come on, let's go find you something else you'd actually like."

"Why would you do that? I thought you'd want (insert) more than that? Did they pressure you into doing that? Don't worry. I'll go talk to them for you, make sure they won't do that again."

I just realized that one of the things that have been bothering me (apart from certain people in the Marina fandom lacking boundaries and moderation) is the fact that oftentimes Maya’s and Carina’s relationship is labeled as “relationship goals”, which is also kind of ironic, given the sheer hatred Maya keeps receiving for being traumatized and mentally ill.

The point is, I don’t think their relationship was ever meant to be anything close to perfect or have a role model function, which is why it is concerning to label it as such.

Both of them entered this relationship with a lot of emotional baggage, especially in regard to their own families (especially their fathers). On top of that, they both didn’t really talk about said emotional baggage for quite a while and refused to get professional help for it, too. And then we have the fact that they disagreed on topics that were highly relevant for their relationship: marriage and children. In the end, they still get married and Maya even agrees on having kids, but if this were a real relationship, this almost certainly would go wrong in the long run, and it’s just not realistic that Maya would change her mind so quickly, just like their wedding was extremely rushed. And that is not even taking into account that Maya cheated on Carina with Jack and that Carina still ends up being friends with Jack again.

Fast-forward to more recent struggles, and we once again see a lack of communication between the two of them. Carina preferred to talk to anyone but Maya about her marriage problems and Maya just completely shut off, which is understandable but doesn’t help their marriage at all.

And I am not saying that their entire marriage is completely dysfunctional, because there definitely are beautiful moments between them, but in the end my argument still stands that the writers weren’t going for a beautiful, picture perfect, functional relationship.

And that’s okay!

They decided to show a relationship that had a less than ideal start, with two people who come with a lot of baggage that they refuse to talk about and fail to resolve in healthy ways a lot of the time. They often need a metaphoric explosion before they come to their senses and realize they cannot go on like this. Their relationship is deeply flawed because they are deeply flawed. And that’s just what relationships are like, sometimes. But I still wouldn’t suggest that anyone take their relationship as an example for what to look for in a relationship, because in real life this would almost certainly fail or lead to some sort of toxic trauma bonding, and I’m not sure anyone would want that for their own relationship.

That being said: The main issue seems to be the discrepancy in what demographic this entire storyline was written for and the demographic that is a big part of the actual fandom. As someone who grew up with Callie and Arizona as the main queer couple on TV, I know what it’s like to see a dysfunctional relationship and overlook the dysfunctional parts because that’s just the little representation you get, after all. There’s a considerable gap in the positive and healthy representation of queer couples for younger folks, and it’s showing. I personally don’t need or want positive representation, because I am at an age (oh, here we go) where I quite enjoy messy and realistic representation. Because I know when things are messy and problematic.

However, that does not mean that there is no hope left for this relationship. If they both! go to therapy and make amends, they might as well find ways to a healthy relationship. It’s fine if they do, it’s fine if they don’t. Again, the writers have done a remarkable job at portraying a realistic relationship - and sometimes realistic does mean messy and dysfunctional and problematic, and I hope more people are able to acknowledge that in the future. And by the way, that doesn’t mean that you can’t ship problematic couples - heck, I do it all the time, but it does mean that sometimes we need to use our critical thinking skills and not sugarcoat behaviours that weren’t meant to be healthy in the first place. Here on my midnight's thoughts. I think one of your posts talked - maybe I'm remembering poorly-how Ochako puts her feelings on the hold for so long...could mean she doesn't like him anymore.

Hori is the only writer I can think screw up the main ship of his story- Naruto is another topic- and it hits me...

Could be this a toxic mentality?

"Heroes cant love, they need to work. I need to be the best hero for my parents" to sum up what Ochako could be thinking.

I mean, we dont see heroes dating. Yes, there's a rumou, in the story, how Mt. Lady and Kamui are dating ...but it was solve pretty quick.

But Ochako still feels the need to hide her feelings. Why?

There's nothing, as far we know, preventing a hero to have a love life and a career. Rock Lock is married...

Actually, think of Fairy Tales, a manga who I have a problem with the fanservices- all the ladies have tight clothes or bikinis- but here the thing the ladies are still cable and bad ass and ...want romance(some even get the romance they wanted) bc a heroine wanting a bf doesn't make her less of hero.

But with Ochako is the opposite. And I think is odd. I tend to chuckle with Hori's bad writting and Hori having a bias towards Izu...but even if is not that...we can certainly say we dont know Ochako well enough to say if she is the type to hide her feelings or if is just about her crush on Izu.

There's two questions here: is Ochako right in saying she can't do both at once, and is that attitude healthy?

Well, from what we've seen (which is very little), UA students seem to have a lot of free time; barring the summer training camp and the like, they certainly seem to do stuff, in a way that implies free time. Moreover, you need to remember that this isn't, like, most magical school shonen settings, where they're all hellholes training students to fight against doom via the 'insert enemy here'. UA is apparently just... a school where some of the classes are spent basiclly trying to murder your classmates (*notes to self to do that UA rant at some point*), and you'd probably have most of the spare time you'd normally have in high school, I guess.

Beyond that, there's the fact that heroes again, aren't... Batman, or Superman; these aren't people who are giving up their lives so they can save people, this is a job. There's a lot of, for lack of a better word, 'fair weather heroes' who apparently quit amass Post War, with the sub text of 'We didn't sign up for this!'. If heroic life was that harsh, you'd expect them to have done that earlier.

Also, I'm going to point out that, like so many other things in MHA, we don't see a lot of hero's lives beyond them heroing. We don't know what they do with their free time, or how much they have. There are heroic families, though; the Iidas and the Todokoris have heroes who are married and have children, and while they're both rich and wildly successful, no one really says that's unusual. There's every indication that they can have a family and all the things that come with that; a partner, a home... though romance, or time spent in the home, isn't exactly guaranteed. With how the commision based payment system is set up, your free time probably is decided by how ambitious you are and how much you need money.

So, on that logic, yeah, I'd say Ochako was wrong in that she didn't have the time to do it, though I don't really blame her for being wrong, either: she's a kid. She's a first year, going into the mysticism of heroism as a newbie. Why would she know better? It's shown several times that UA gives a whiplash between harsh training and ordinary school life, and the students are often surprised by how normal things can be.

Is the attitude of 'I can't afford to have romance so I can be a hero' wrong?

*wiggles hand*

...Maybe? Yes and no?

In the way I phrased it, it's wrong by the logic of the setting, because, well, you can. Unless your love is going to turn you into the memetic 'ideal Japanese housewife', who lives only for their loved one, then yeah, that'd get in the way. But, you know, that's not how it works for most people, so we can ignore that.

Let me rephrase, though, because there's a core concept to this question: Is it ideal that you're putting your own desires aside for the sake of getting a good job? No. Is it common? Yes.

The thing is you need to think about Ochako and the setting itself: Ochako isn't Batman turning away a love interest because of her dark secrets and self destructive tendencies; heroism is a job. It is a job, a decently paying one if you're any good at it, and Ochako is poor. Peel away the label of 'hero' and suddenly things become clear.

This is something that isn't about her, is the thing, it's about society. Ochako is basiclly the archetype of a poor kid trying to get into sports to escape poverty, with a thin coat of heroism painted over it. And it's bad that she has to do that, to think about that, but it isn't a heroism specific problem, and I can't really criticize her for wanting to leverage her skills to better her situation.

When you look at it that way, maybe she's just super serious in the beginning about succeeding, passing with good grades and some inroads into the industry, getting a decent job and securing her family's future, before allowing herself to think about, well, herself.

It's one of the things I regret about her character, because she could have been this great vehicle to explore outside of UA or hero fights, about the grey realities of being a hero for pay and how it isn't actually always a bad thing and so on, and she just got abandoned part way through.

LO RANT:

Okay this is petty to say, but it’s late and I was thinking about Lore Olympus heading into it’s new episodes and I just… I don’t get it. All the plots are kinda done and over with if you think about it, toxic girlfriend is gone, kronos is dead, no more college, no more TGEOM, no more controlling mom, and no AOW storyline. What will be left is Apollo, marriage, babies and you can easily just give that one or a few episodes because let’s be fr, Rachel did that with the whole 10 year thing. Everything is gonna be dealt with without any character development or any real message. This is supposedly a feminist story yet it depicts the story of a young girl falling for an older much richer and powerful man and the young girl leaving everything she loves and everyone she loves to be with this man after three weeks just to marry and have kids. I don’t know about you guys but I just don’t want to see Persephone become a housewife, I don’t want her to be just a baby maker for Hades and before you even say anything let’s be real that’s where this story is going you may not like how I say it but I’m saying this in the nicest way I possibly can. Persephone is literally just there to “fix Hades”, give him kids, and be with him so he won’t be lonely. He’s so dependent on her emotionally that he physically doesn’t know what to do with himself, a lot of people mistake that for love but in the context of their relationship I see it as desperation.

Hades has always been desperate. Desperate to be like his brothers, to have a queen, to have a wife, to not be lonely. He’d literally pick anyone to be his wife at this point if he hadn’t met Persephone because we’ve seen him trying to flirt with women before, it’s always giving escort and no I don’t mean to sound like I’m shaming escorts or anything that’s pretty dumb seeming as they’re literally doing a job but in this context the women he’s choosing aren’t escorts they’re just unlucky women who have to deal with him. He pays them and buys them gifts and everything and gives them everything they have just so they’ll stay with him. I’ve been noticing that, and then once he finds another young woman he does the same thing. That man is so utterly pathetic it’s scary, if you’re ever going to get into a relationship you should at the very least deal with very huge behavioral problems, for example Hades’ temper, something doesn’t go his way he riots like a child or you disagree with him and he’s upset, you give him criticism and he’s rushing out in the rain. You see what I’m getting at? Hades isn’t a very suitable person because he expects the woman in the relationship to be able to fix himself for him, to make all his problems go away, to deal with him at his ugliest and everything when he can’t even comfort and help Persephone when she confessed to him, or Minthe when she was getting insulted (badly might I add) by his own family to his face. He doesn’t even try being there yet those women are gonna have to bend over backwards to please him or he’ll go find someone else to whine to. Hades is pathetic and I despise him immensely, I hate him with the passion of a thousand suns and I wanna make that intensely clear to anyone who comes across this page for the first time. He was never a good person and he can’t even better his ways for Persephone.

Anyways, that’s the end of this rant. I’m a little eager for Saturday since I have a few things I wanna say about the episode but yeah, school is back in session as most of you know and I am running out of rants and even some appreciations. I believe I was going to appreciate Artemis next though so I’ll just use this post to remind me whenever I get the chance. But as I always say these are completely meaningless I don’t want anyone taking this seriously, I’m just stating my thoughts and opinions and if you agree with it that’s great and if you don’t that’s great too. By the way, this isn’t to bash Hades Lovers or anything if you like the man I don’t want you to back down from him just because I, a random teen on the internet, said something about it. If he’s your type he’s your type and this wasn’t a bash or anything so hopefully it doesn’t seem like it if it does I’m very sorry.

Okay, last one for today I swear lol

I’m really excited to see if & how the changes to story impact Daemon’s role in & actions during the Dance. Like not just Reader + their child(ren?) but the facts that he is not Rhaenyra’s husband or Baela & Rhaena’s father.

I feel like the hardcore Daemyra shippers/“Daemon is really a misunderstood, nice guy!” peeps like to ignore the fact that Daemon is also promoting & defending himself and his biological children when he’s supporting Rhaenyra/the Blacks in the books & show.

I mean, he’s set it up so nicely; he becomes King Consort (all the fun, no paperwork!) and his daughter will be Queen after Rhaenyra. Boom. 🙌🤣

And he legit does see the Greens as a threat to his blood/family so part of why he loses patience with & lashes out at Rhaenyra in Ep 10 is because it’s not just her and her children that are at risk (from his pov anyway).

LOL I just realized that he and I might have similar outlook on that actually - a kind of “in Ep 4, I/he literally warned you about the thoughts + feelings of the smallfolk and you were all IDGAF. And, now you’re concerned about the ‘good of the realm’? Are you F***ing kidding me?!?”

FTR, before I get pelted by the anti Sara Hess brigade, I do think he loves her and he’s also looking out for him & his - thank god; self-sacrificing, “noble” heroes are so 2008 - and those two things are not mutually exclusive. Our lovely Em here has done an amazing job writing Daemon as he is - an awesome, insanely hot fantasy husband who is 🙌 in the fictional world of Westeros and who would be a toxic nightmare in 21st century real life. #realtalk #sorrynotsorry

Anywhoo (that wandered off, sorry!), it’ll be interesting to see how it turns out! You kinda hinted at one possible direction/consideration early on when Reader was pointing out that he wouldn’t become King through marrying her and he was all “ehhh, not necessarily. Rhaenyra’s kids are bastards sooo… 😉😜😎”

Plus, we have yet to see whether there’s any anger left towards Rhaenyra re: the events at the end of Donus Rinus. Obv he was more furious with Alicent but it felt like there was plenty of anger towards Rhaenyra as well.

It brings up all sorts of questions & hypotheticals like,

What has to happen to make Daemon & Reader definitively side with the Blacks? Is Daemon’s dislike of Otto and his & Reader’s love for Rhaenyra enough?

Do certain circumstances force them to choose a side?

Can there be a Dance without Daemon throwing all his weight behind Rhaenyra and the Blacks?

What would it look like for Daemon, Reader, & Fam to establish themselves as a “neutral” or defense-oriented (or even offense-oriented!) third party/group/claimant to the throne? Could they feasibly do so???

Hmmm… 😉 This is what I love most about fanfic - the what ifs! 😂

Oh, but absolutely - Daemon securing his own legacy doesn’t take away from the fact that he clearly loves Rhaenyra. I completely agree that there was more than love motivating him, and that’s okay - we can have more than one reason for doing something! Part of the reason I see motivating him to pursue Reader is because Rhaenyra has essentially screwed herself out of establishing the dynastic surety that had Viserys demand she marry in the first place; unlike his brother, he has no illusions about the paternity of his great-nephews, and is ultimately a little less motivated to see them ascend the throne when the time comes. They are bastards after all; and what’s more, everyone pretty much knows it.

If we adhere to the precedent set by Viserys’s decision to name Rhaenyra his heir, the technical next in line is actually Reader, which gives him a shot at a) ruling alongside her and b) having his heirs - his son - through her installed as the future of the Targaryen dynasty. Of course, this is a hypothetical; not suggesting anything plot-wise! It’s much less stress to hitch your wagon to the “unspoiled” cart, i.e. Reader, than to weather the inevitable questions of legitimacy that come with aligning so firmly with Rhaenyra. Daemon’s daughters’ claim to the Throne relies on passing off Jace and Luke and Joffrey as legitimate Velaryons, which naturally causes much of the conflict and weakens Rhaenyra’s position considerably. In this AU, Daemon has no such need to throw his lot in with Rhaenyra, as he’s got an advantageous back-up in Reader. I foresee this as shaping the levels to which he is prepared to go to see Rhaenyra’s position secured (both out of love and loyalty for her AND because her succession paves the way for Reader/his heirs in the far-off future), in that there is now a limit to how far he’ll take it. And he’ll be more inclined to be honest with her about her position; you’re right in that Rhaenyra tries to do this backflip in attitude when the time comes to strike hard, which would have frustrated him to no end.

I also imagine that the whole conflict at the end of the last instalment would be affecting his perception too, perhaps cooling him off to the prospect of seeing Rhaenyra ascend to power. Don’t get me wrong, he wants this because of his love for her AND for what it represents for his own legacy, but he’ll be in more of a position to acknowledge the errors she’s made in birthing illegitimate heirs and seemingly being so preoccupied with the thought of rule that she doesn’t quite prepare as stringently to rule. I’m not sure what consequences that will have long-term; we’ll have to wait and see!

You’ve provided me some excellent food for thought - some of this I hadn’t even really considered, but I suppose I’d better start haha! Thank you so much for such a critical look into Daemon, this will really help me out!

I think people who say that Sirius would pick or save Reg over James are crazy, I’m sorry 😭

Idk how unpopular this is but Remus would drive everyone else crazy by picking the longest, most pretentious prog rock ever for parties. Peter is the only one with good taste. James is tone deaf. Sirius is a complete poser who will pretend to be into bands he’s never heard.

I don’t think Reg has a big circle of close friends. I love the Skittles in AUs but they really don’t make sense to me in canon compliant stuff, especially if the writer is trying to push that none of them were into blood supremacy.

I really like Lily and Sirius in Jegulus fics: I feel like they’re given much more depth and complexity than they are in Jily/Wolfstar stuff.

People have a really hard time making Dorlene and Moonseeker interesting as actual dynamics I would like to read about and not aesthetic Twitter threads.

If James/Remus/Regulus ended up being a thing and I was Sirius, our friendship would be over. Especially if they kept it from me. Oh, wait… I’d get with Evan and Barty and then our friendship would be over. I am toxic and petty and a Sirius kin can you tell. Any fic where Sirius is cool with it is an unrealistic fic in my eyes. Jegulus and/or Moonseeker is already stretching it but both his best friends? Nah.

Actually leaping off from that, a lot of fics these days do a bad job establishing why James and/or Remus would care about Regulus and instantly be in love with him. Especially in universes where Sirius hates Reg and Reg/Reg’s friends hate Sirius. I feel like earlier Jegulus fics did a much better job before it became an assumed dynamic.

I don’t think you should be writing Regulus & Sirius dynamics in fics if you don’t have empathy for both and aren’t willing to show both of their POVs. A lot of times it comes across as victim blaming or really weird ideas about victims.

I love lonely Reg 💀 I love the skittles as a big friend group but I sometimes miss the days where he was a lonely Emo boy or only friends with Pandora, those were the times.

Tbf I don't real jily or wolfstar so l just give a suppletive thumbs up 👍 I do love everything about Lily tho and Sirius is always good in Jegulus bc they can justify every single action he does and it feels more natural

I sort of get what you mean, I think it's become very accepted that James cares about Reg because of his large heart and he understands his abuse and manipulation but like...it's so accepted that it gets really rushed bc people just want to get to the fun bit (which like me too)

YES people who blame one of them, be it intentional or not, really annoy me bc it comes through in your writing, and I prefer Reg just as a character I write but THAT DOESN'T MEAN I BLAME SIRIUS FOR ALL THE SHIT THAT HAPPENED TO HIM it doesn't make for a cool plot point, it's just creepy. Honestly my whole page is on the treatment of the black family and dumbledore's ignorance towards it so I feel very strongly about this one, same goes for people who use Andy as a catalyst for Cissa to cry into Alice/Lucius/whoever's arms because they never treat her like an actual person
