Lemme tell you the story of this gun my wife showed me.
At first, I immediatly assumed it belonged to her grandfather who was a lieutenant in the french military. Not a fan of guns and didn't think much of it.
" No it belonged to my great-grandmother!"
She then told me the entire story of badass great grandmother Jeanne, that I need to share here.
Its important to note the time period it takes place in: Right smack in the middle of WWII.
Jeanne was of Jewish heritage but she immediatly realized things were starting to get ugly concerning Jews and took the decision to baptize herself and her children at the last minute so she had paperworks to show Nazi officials to lie about her jewish upbringing. This move saved her life and that of her children.
Some times later, another nazi official was investigating the weird deaths of his collegues in the area, and was suspecting resistance hideouts down the river because thats where they found the bodies So he knocked door to door, and asked if anyone noticed anything, under threats obviously.
Jeanne opened the door and told the Nazi official she didn't notice anything, playing the role of the frightened by everything going on, harmless young lady, living alone after her husband died. The guy immediatly dropped his guard , and Jeanne invited him inside for tea since it was already late and cold out.
The -moment- he stepped inside and his back was to her as he removed his coat. She took out this exact gun out of her dress and shot him point blank in the head.
-She- was the resistance member killing Nazis knocking on her door, dumping their body in the river, so the bodies would travel south to a region well know for resistance soldiers, and making the nazis think it was them killing officials patrolling the area. They -never- suspected her. Being a woman, living alone and "with a fragile constitution".
Absolute badass great grandmother Jeanne was shooting nazis daring to knock on her door with this very gun, avenging a large portion of her family, who didn't make the decision she did and were lost to the war.
Huge respect, Great Grandmother in Law. Huge respect.

Hey Jumblr, what’s your favorite Jewish story?
could be real or fiction, could be about Jews or just by a Jewish author/creator, could be from the Bible, from the Talmud, from folklore, from wherever, just reblog with your favorite Jewish story whatever it is
I’ll go first: I really love the X-Men, especially the arc of Magneto & Xavier’s relationship, and the story of the golem (I couldn’t pick just one lol)

You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah Thoughts
Even though my Bat Mitzvah will have been 14 years ago next month, I still remember it like it was yesterday. Being thirteen years old is challenging enough—crushes, friendship issues, school work, extra curricular activities (for me: it was ballet, tap, jazz, lyrical, company, and Girl Scouts), etc. Hebrew School, Bat Mitzvah prep, and a Mitzvah project added to middle school drama.
There were Bat Mitzvahs that I thought I would be invited to and I wasn’t. There was so much studying, which came with your Torah and Haftarah portions. However, the Bar and Bat Mitzvahs I did attend, I enjoyed. I had fun singing and dancing with my friends, having a Shirley Temple, buffet, and ice cream bar almost every weekend in the spring of seventh grade and fall of eighth grade.
At the end of the day, my Bat Mitzvah was an important milestone. My parents told me that I could only have a party if I continued with Hebrew school. I did. Judaism is really important to me and a huge aspect of my life. (I’m a Hebrew school teacher).
I wish this movie existed when I was going through all of this.
Favorite line: “Do you want to know what my theme was? Being Jewish.”-the dad
I love how all the girls are calling out the boys when they’re making fun of periods.
That synagogue looks amazing! Love the diversity of Jewish people the movie is showing.
I like how this movie captures what it’s like to be Jewish.
Being thirteen was so much simpler before Instagram, TikTok, and smart phones. We had flip phones and maybe some people were on FaceBook or MySpace. I only used my cell-phone to call my parents for an emergency.
These Bar and Bat Mitzvahs are more over the top than the ones I attended and the ones my brother attended four years later.
I love the inclusion of “Hava Nagila,” the chair lift, Bar and Bat Mitzvah shirts, and throwing candy at the temple.
Taking responsibilities for your actions--that's the true definition of adulthood.
I loved watching a movie full of Jewish characters, who were all different, but non-Jewish people could relate to their stories—growing up, crushes, and friendship drama.
My favorite character was: Nikki. She was just being herself. I didn’t know how to be anyone but myself and wanted nothing to do with the popular crowd.

Things that are very important for the Jewish characters in the Mixiverse
1. Everyone, including the characters who convert, is indigenous to the Levant. It doesn’t matter if they’re Ashkenazi, Sephardi, Mizrahi, etc, they all have ties to the Jewish homeland.
2. They all range from secular, non practicing, Reform, Conservative, and Orthodox.
3. While they do experience Jewish pain, they more often experience Jewish joy. Example: Harry celebrating his Bar Mitzvah after the experience in the Chamber of Secrets in which he nearly died. Wanda mourns Vision (briefly because WandaVision) as is mandated by Jewish tradition, which includes avoiding mirrors and wearing torn fabric.
4. They face many forms of discrimination, but they overcome it in their own ways. There are no weak Jews.
5. Everyone’s upbringing is different.
6. A lot of their onscreen canon counterparts have had their Jewish identity erased or “cut”, despite clearly being Jewish in the original comics. The Mixiverse is an attempt to remedy that, though I will admit it’s not perfect.
7. They all have varying opinions about the State of Israel, just as all Jews do in real life. They are not a monolith.
And last but not least, 8. The Mixiverse is not an attempt to convince anyone to convert to Judaism. It’s just my way of organizing my crazy imagination, which means that I’ve incorporated the values that I learned into the stories. And you do not have to be Jewish to enjoy them. But I have to admit, I have a hard time writing about the Christmas stuff. Not the celebration part, just the situations surrounding Christmas.

Friendly reminder that Corpse Bride was originally a Jewish story from the 16th century, made and told during the times they were killed frequently, commonly were even buried in their wedding clothes, and were treated with disrespect. The people who made the movie removed this important aspect. Originally the story was called "The Finger" from Jewish Folklore, about a dead bride with no name or a tragic backstory.
I think people should know that whenever you make AUs about stories that have made it to the big screen hell just in general, art and personal storytelling aside, see where the original story came from and make decisions to improve it from there.
I mean no disrespect in any way shape or form to anybody, I feel this information should be shared around more 💙

Faith and Cruel Masters
L-rd, when you went out from Seir, when you marched from the region of Edom, the earth trembled, and the heavens poured, the clouds indeed poured water. (Judges 5:4) Various nations have mistreated the Jewish people and caused great suffering. The Romans, who descended from Esau, tortured, and murdered millions of people, and exiled and enslaved countless more as they built their empire. They…

Parade (On Broadway)
Such an important, powerful show! The singing was amazing! The show made me so upset and uncomfortable (it did such a great job telling this story)! I was not much of a fan of Ben Platt before, but he and Micaela Diamond were wonderful. It was so important to see young secular Jewish people telling a Jewish story. Time and again, I see non-Jewish people cast to play important Jewish people. Not this time. I was crying through much of the show. The songs are catchy, but the lyrics are dark. Jason Robert Brown doesn’t disappoint. (I’m also a fan of 13, The Last 5 Years, and Mr. Saturday Night). Thank you for telling Jewish stories. Ben Platt sitting on the stage throughout the intermission in his jail cell. The Shema at the end and the Civil War soldier passing the torch to the WWI soldier--there were so many connections. The direction of the show was powerful. The events in this show took place over a hundred years ago and it still felt relevant and urgent. If you have the chance, please go see it!

Okay. So, I really love how Jewish the Mixiverse actually is. Like, it is amazing how many prominent characters in this universe are so openly Jewish. Whether or not they were Jewish in the canon they originated from, it’s just so nice that I get to write that representation that I rarely ever got as a kid. And a lot of the stories that these characters are involved in have nothing to do with Jewish tragedy! So much of the time, they actually get to experience Jewish joy, which we don’t see enough of in mainstream media! Yes, they’re going through dangerous situations but they always get to the end alive… and even celebrate that! That’s what being Jewish is about, right? It’s the joy of living!

Alright let's imagine a scene that is all too normal in palestine. A palestinian business owner finds his building covered in graffiti stars of Davids and Hebrew that says "gas the arabs" and "death to arabs"
Now imagine there's a reporter there and asks the palestinian business owner what happens and they say "the jews attacked my business"
Pause. Now your response might be "uncle no. Say israelis not jews" and then this is when he would look at you like youre stupid because the israelis doing this are jewish. They are not the Christians or the druze or the palestinian ones with Israeli citizenship. They are Jewish israelis who believe in their religious supremacy. When you graffiti stars of david all over a palestinian business, car, or the street you seek that conflation. it sends a message, this is jewish land and you're next.
The problem is that these videos circulate in zionist circles. "Watch this video of children in gaza calling for the death of jews" "watch how they say they want to fight and kill jews" those children are referring to Israeli soldiers that come in night and do their raids with the star of David attached to their uniform or the ones that bomb them. It's easy to watch those videos and assume that palestinians are indoctrinating their children on anti semitism or you can realize that those children's only interaction with jewish ppl is through violence and parents cannot protect their children from this. Doesn't matter context is lost
Abby Martin went to Jerusalem and interviewed israelis for 2 hours and she says every israeli was extremely confident to say that this land is for them and that they should push the Arabs out and when she interviewed palestinians they spoke of freedom from occupation and their dreams. That's reality. Not the soundbites.
And yet we have invasive youtubers and interviewers constantly in the street of ramallah or wherever in palestine asking palestinians "do you hate jews?" And in those videos you hear those palestinians say "no we have no problem with jews we have a problem with occupation and we have a problem with zionism." Bc this is how we are trained to respond to this trope. Palestinians are very aware what the world thinks of us and the reality is that many palestinians have internalized it and we grow up reading books on the Holocaust and train ourselves to recognize anti semitic dog whistles so zionists don't get the soundbites they want.
So we say "anti zionism is not anti semitism" and we say "israeli zionists" and we do not say "jewish supremacy" even thought it exists in palestine but "zionist supremacy" and in these carefully worded speech we water down what is happening to us in an effort to not deter people away from solidarity. But it means nothing. The world categorically blames palestinians for rising anti semitism they blame us for jewish insecurity globally.

Can you share a snippet of Souls Ch18 or Rue and the Questions Four; whichever you feel more excited about?
I'm going to do both bc I'm excited for each of them in very different ways. (tho I'll do Souls in a separate post bc talking about Rue got away from me).
Rue isn't far enough along for me to have a snippet. It's currently still mostly concept and less actual concretely written fic (the same goes for the entire series of short stories tbh).
My goal with the project is to have a series of short stories themed around Jewish holidays and figures (sort of). I think of it as similar to how Ruby Rose alludes to Little Red Riding Hood, but her story isn't an exact retelling of that fairy tale.
So far, I have Moshe the Rabbit (Moses), Esther the Cat (Queen Esther), and Yehuda (Judah Maccabee) as characters. They aren't exact reflections of their namesakes, but elements of their stories do refer to them and their holidays. For instance, something I'm really pleased with for Esther's story is that the villain will be a man in a three-point hat who, whenever his name is said, it's drowned out by some innocuous noise (a reference to how, during purimspiels, the audience drowns out Haman's name with grogers).
Circling back to Rue and the Questions Four. "The Questions Four" part of the title refers to the Four Questions recited by the youngest child during the Passover Seder. Rue is the golem Moshe, with help from the others, created in my original Moshe and the Toymaker story (their full name is Baruch, which is Hebrew for 'Blessing', as they're considered a blessing by everyone).
I haven't quite figured out the narrative for the story yet, but Rue, as a character, is still learning a lot about the world (in a child-like manner too). I really like the concept of having them, during the preparations for Passover, ask questions of those around them (about the world and how it works), which could maybe reflect the Four Questions themselves.
Overall none of it is very concrete atm and I feel like I should do deeper research than relying on memories of a Reform Jewish upbringing (although half the point behind these stories is to intertwine my creative identity with my Jewish one, so that's its own whole thing too).
Anyway, the whole project is near and dear to my heart.
