Just a few reasons why we need more truly secular school/community/professional choirs to, like, exist:
More welcoming for singers and audience members who are non-religious
More welcoming for singers and audience members of minority religions
More welcoming for singers and audience members who are uncomfortable having their sacred music taken out of context
Church choirs already exist, and there are a million other ensembles singing Gloria and Requiem and Ave Maria and Hallelujah Chorus; I promise the folks who like singing and listening to the religious classics have no shortage of options available to them
There is so much amazing secular repertoire out there that gets passed over time and time again in favor of the same old church pieces. Expand! Explore!! Seize this musical opportunity!!!
...I want to sing in a choir xD 😭

This week on Behind the Mirror of Music Dannii Cohen hosts a Purim special featuring music requests from listeners based around the theme "Jewish composers and/or performers". We have received quite a few responses, including several very rare ones.
Special guest this week is Rebecca Wicking who comes to talk about her newly released song "When the Heart Cries", which raises awareness and money for the Israeli hostages.
Rebecca also talks about her life and career and chooses her top 3 songs from the stage.
You can listen to the episode here.
You can find Rebecca's full video and ways to donate to Bring Them Home Now on Behindthemirrorofmusic.com

It doesn't have to be this way, Anshl has two hands!
I know everyone goes on and on about the Yentl film, and yes, it's an excellent movie and I love it, but if you haven't read the original short story the movie is based off of, you are seriously missing out. The original short story is so much more bisexual and so much more gender-fucky. You can read it here. You're welcome :)

"In prayer, we are accustomed to uttering words, To filling the void. But even when standing before God We are allowed to be quiet To do nothing. To cease trying To not fear the quiet To give space to the embarrassment To the awe To stand silently Still Awakening my attention To my very existence. A person Between ground and sky Placing God before me A taut string between us In silence."
— Dov Singer, Prepare My Prayer, page 39.
