New reason unlocked for being pissed that Jeralt decided to just burn stuff down instead of, idk, talking to Rhea (ok I know why he didn't do that) or realising his kid was similar to his wife (??? there's NO way Sitri had a heartbeat she is literally Powered By A Crest Stone ??? Jeralt ???)
or
idk
leave in the middle of the night WITHOUT burning shit down actually

I hate how 3h fans are reaching for the stars to villainize Claude by using his desire to read Jeralt's dairy against him.
Between the church hiding the harmful truth about crests and heroes relics, Miklan's transformation, Rhea's questionable favoritism towards someone like Byleth, a random mercenary ignorant of the church being able to wield the sword of the creator, said mercenary being the closest connection to Nemesis, Jeralts leaving and abounding the church Flayn's blood being able to create demonic beasts and a violent terrorist group who also knows the secrets behind crests and heroes relics its absolutely no wonder Claude wants to learn as much as he can to protect himself and his friends.
What sane person would want to remain ignorant of dangerous truths that endanger their lives?

Title: Cornucopia
Fandom: Fire Emblem: Three Houses
Made for Dimileth Garden Gala: Fall Harvest.
Tumblr media
Rating: G
Word count: 3,191
Summary: Byleth and Dimitri go apple picking during the start of the Fall Harvest season.
“Shall we continue, then?” he asked, gesturing with a vague nod toward the copse of trees behind a group of homes where there were already children picking through the branches.
Byleth nodded. She let him lead the way.
He had told her about the apple trees. He had told her when summer ended that autumn brought back his happiest memories as a child.
“When I was small, I thought the apples looked like red gems growing on the branches,” he had said with a fond smile as they looked over the balcony when the leaves of the trees below started to change. “I thought them treasures. My father and stepmother always encouraged it.”

I know Jeralts death is heavily mourned by the church members but I can’t stop thinking of how convenient it is for them that he died when he did.
Jeralt was willing to fake his and Byleths deaths to get them away from the monastery and whatever Rhea did to them. That’s his kid. Not Rheas experiment. They lived off the grid for so long until they were dragged back and forced to work for her again. The destiny his kid was born for without their or his permission is coming to fruition. And when he dies it’s tragic. But not long after, Byleth finally fuses with the goddess. They finally become what they were meant for. What Rhea messed with his own baby for. And in 3/4 routes this leads to Byleth being taken in by Rhea, fighting her war that they don’t fully understand, and becoming the new Goddess. Isn’t that great? Sure, maybe Jeralt wouldn’t have approved if it came to this, but that’s fine. Byleth is perfectly okay with it.

Had Jeralt been alive, how do you think Dimitri would have told him he asked for his daughter's hand in marriage? Or do you think he told Jeralt before his proposal to Byleth? Either way Dimitri would be so nervous he is so cute ♡
(A little headcanon drabbling, you say?)
Dimitri wouldn’t be nervous. He would be having a low-grade panic attack consistently over the entire six weeks it took him to work up the courage!
He had heard so many stories about how gallant and strong and witty Jeralt was from you. The man was an amazing leader, and a tender father who cared deeply for his child.
Very, very deeply. As in, whenever a man or a woman would proposition you for a date, or something similar… Jeralt had their asses in the dirt before they knew what happened.
The idea of proposing to you, and ask for that man’s blessing was petrifying. The King-Elect of Faerghus had been through Hell and back a thousand times. But he would have to do it once more.
You would try to reassure him when you caught him being particularly gloomy. Jeralt was a fair man, and he held Dimitri in high regard.
That would definitely plummet once Dimitri took him aside to ask this of him, but it had to be done. Besides, it’s not like he would try and kill the king, now, would he?
…Would he?
Of course, after six weeks of odd behavior and being avoided by a man Jeralt had taken under his wing like one of his own, he had already suspected what was goin on.
Besides, you may be quiet, but you weren’t one to keep things from your father. You’d hinted that something was on the horizon soon, and hopefully, he would approve of it. That something hit him late one night, after a few goblets of formidable wine with the fidgeting lion, himself.
“Sir Jeralt…sir…there’s a reason I asked you to come here, tonight. …Sir.”
“Other than enjoying a fine bottle of wine between friends?” Jeralt stirred the wine slowly in his chalice, eying his prey like a wild tiger.
Jeralt would have known his answer long before you told him what you suspected. He knew how much Dimitri cherished you.
Even though the poor king was bumbling over every word and stammering between breaths, the devotion he felt for Jeralt’s daughter was undeniable.
Of course, Jeralt would let him squirm for a while before relenting and giving him his blessing. He could think of no better life for you than what he always felt you deserved; one of peace, safety, and wanting for nothing.
That, and, of course, having someone who was so very in love with you he’d prostrate himself  on the floor to beg for your hand.
Jeralt would never forget watching the king of an entire nation getting on his hands and knees before him, asking for his daughter’s hand in marriage.
Him! A mercenary!
How could he say no afer a show like that?
Jeralt would be sure to tease Dimitri every time he saw him for a solid month or two after that showingThe only thing he found more joy in was seeing that soft smile on Dimitri’s lips when you held his hand, your new engagement rings glimmering on each other’s fingers.
What a fine pair they make, Jeralt would think.

I'd say something about how i can't believe 3Hopes actually made me stop disliking Byleth but i totally can believe it because what was missing was always the ability to speak so the player can hear it.

ooh can you elaborate the parallel between rhea killing nemesis with a dagger and dimitri giving el one? i'm curious but feel free to ignore, if you don't want to!
Thanks for the ask anon ! =D
For context, I just realized there even was a parallel yesterday while I was watching the opening cutscene - and though I thought I'd share it because people might have some interesting things to say about it, I didn't really think that deep into it myself.
That being said, I thought I'd at least give it a go !! Keep in mind though, this might be pretty disorganized since I am thinking it out at the same time as I am writing it.
Off the top of my mind, there are three important daggers I can think of when playing fe3h. The first one, and perhaps the most significant,  is Edelgard's, that was gifted to her by Dimitri so she could cut her own future. The second one, which I talked about yesterday,  is the one Rhea uses to kill Nemesis. And finally, there is a last one: the one Monica uses to stab Jeralt.
Interestingly enough, Seiros kills Nemesis for revenge- because her people have no future now that they've been genocided, because they themselves will not have the opportunity to cut their own future anymore. This is pretty similar to how Edelgard herself is the only one of her siblings left to build a new world where what they went through will never happen again. Both are motivated by their grief of their loved ones who were ripped away from them.
However, and I think that’s very important- unlike Edelgard, Rhea never really moves on from the grief. She tries so much  to stop such horrible things from happening again that she helps build and preserve a system that is, at its core, centered on a romanticized version of the past (what’s with how she rewrites history) and resistant to change (I believe  it is mentioned at some point in Cindered Shadows that she prohibited the development of the printing press and some medical progress). In that regard, you could say she doesn’t even have a “future” if you consider that with future comes change. She clings to the past while being stuck in a kind of “still life” that is her present- and hoping that she can go back to “the way things were” once she brings her mother back to life.
Tumblr media
That makes Edelgard the polar opposite of that. She, too, disregards the present- but only because she herself cannot dwell on the past, and thus considers building what she sees as a better future her priority. Living in the present time isn’t worth it if her work amounts to no significant change, and fast -hence the radicality of her actions compared to the more gradual reforms Claude advocates for. She is the gal who devised a plan to take down Those Who Slither In The Dark with her goth best friend in her twenties, while Rhea barely made a move against them in a thousand years.
Her act of desperation at the end of Azure Moon, when she tries to kill Dimitri last minute, is because she is unwilling to give up on the future she envisioned, not  a way to avenge the past. Now that I think about it, this is emphasized even more by the fact that her dagger is supposed to kill the one who gave it to her in a past she has no care left for, and barely remembers anyways. But this last action still leaves room for a better future- she doesn’t manage to kill Dimitri.
Tumblr media
Rhea uses her dagger so the past can live again- Edelgard uses hers to kill the past.
So, now that I am wayyyy too deep into this to back down- where does Kronya’s dagger fit in all of this ?
Tumblr media
Kronya/Monica killing Jeralt is the catalyst for change in Byleth. The one key element that allows for the return of the Goddess in the world of the living (speaking of that, have some cool symbolism about their fusion with Sothis I thought about the other day) . But, even more importantly, Byleth embodies the movement of the world itself, the force of change. They are interminatum, neither God nor mortal, everchanging and undetermined, unpredictable. They are the time that passes ("Byleth interminatum" is also slowly becoming my favorite way to call them but that's another matter entirely).
Without them, the conflict stagnates, torn in the struggle between the past and the future ; because neither Edelgard nor Rhea know how to live in the present. But you know what's pretty cool ?
Byleth never uses their own dagger. They literally have it on at all times but never use it. My guess is, it is exactly because they have been revealed "both sides of time" that they can live in the present without regret, kept in check by all of the ties they have made there with their loved ones. This might even be because they are the only character who was "cut from the world" and felt like they lived outside of it at the beginning of the story, whose entire character arc centers on finding their place into this world. Jeralt's murder is just what triggers this force of change.
Byleth is essential in that they teach both the archbishop and the empress something they have always been lacking- learning to live in the present, to be part of the world again, to open themselves up to others and love. Edelgard never uses her dagger in Crimson Flower because Byleth was there to keep her aware of the consequences her actions have in the here-and-now.
Aaalright, I guess that's a wrap ! Please forgive any mistakes as English isn't my first language. Similarly, I might not have covered everything and it's just me musing, don't hesitate to add anything to this !!! ^^ But the symbolism of the dagger was really cool to think about !!

jeralt realizing his feelings for you
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
pairing: jeralt eisner x gn!reader
tags: slight angst with a happy ending
Tumblr media
jeralt didn't plan to fall in love again after the passing of his wife
when the two of you met, you were nothing more than a drinking buddy to him
the two of you would drink and talk all night, telling each other any stories you had that were entertaining
though after a few beer, there were times when you two got quite open with one another and emotionally vulnerable
you started to tell each other things barely anyone knew and that you only trusted each other with
however, during those nights drinking together jeralt never realized how much you meant to him
that only happened when the two of you stood together on the battlefield, this time as enemies
despite being hired to take out your mercenary group, he couldn't do it…
as soon as he saw you stand across from him, the same pained look on your face that was on his, he knew that he couldn't kill you!
you just meant too much to him..
and for the first time in his career as a mercenary, jeralt ended up retreating from a battle he could've won, just to keep you save
