Jelly Family | Skulls
Skulls is not a real word anymore
More info under the cut:
After the slimes get their skulls, they also get their own mana signatures that allows them to never get their slimes mixed and merged with other slimes. This is how they can even sleep in pools in large numbers. This also allows them to have some back up mana somewhere so that if they do happen to lose their body, anyone can still put the skull back into water for the slime to rebuild a body
The skulls themselves can be reinforced with a stronger material! It's all up to the slime, but with how much they move around it is much safer to bind outside materials to their skull
If the skull is damaged, they will start leaking mana in the same way any organic creature would bleed. They will die if they lose all their mana.
To stop the mana from leaking they can cast reconstruction spells on their own skulls or ingest bones and other materials to patch up cracks.

Another quick and dirty value study inspired sketch. Thanks to @thevulcanbobdylan for suggesting the subject matter.
I'd planned to do a blank background, but the angles and leading lines from the welds of the bulkheads were actually kinda brilliant and perfect, so I kept them. Props to the cinematographer on that one.
CSY watercolor for the underpainting, mix of cheap jelly gouache and W&N designer gouache on Canson mixed media paper. Somewhere between 60 and 90 minutes? Hard to say - destruct-o-cat kept "helping."
Colors are a smidge off - the underpainting is mostly purple, not pink and the rest is generally very pthalo-blue-y.
Too lazy to get the color balance on the photo right (especially since it wasn't really the point), but I think it looks kinda neat in greyscale.
In other news, I still hate painting/ drawing glasses.

I got my work wife to watch Our Flags Means Death. (Because I lovingly think she's Ed coded and told her so)... And today she just randomly giggled and called me Stede coded.
We have decided for Halloween we are dressing up as them respectively.
