INSIDE THE MUSES’ MINDSCAPES
Naturally  this  will  be  a  LONG  post  ,  so  the  descriptions  shall  be  placed  under  a  read  more  so  i  don’t  take  up  the  entirety  of  the  dash.  Essentially  however  ,  these  are  the  landscapes  of  each  muse’s  mind.  Meaning  that  if  you  /  your  muse  were  to  step  inside  my  muse’s  mind  (  and  not  just  a  memory  )  ,  this  is  the  scenery  that  would  greet  them. Each  muse  will  be  bolded  &  in  caps  for  theoretically  easier  looking  if  you  want  to  find  a  specific  muse’s  mindscape  ,  but  when  in  doubt,  ctrl + f  also  works  to  navigate.  I didn’t do any of my request muses, but if you’d like to see theirs, you’re welcomed to say for me to in my ask and I will! Or if you’re also curious about why a muse’s mindscape is how it is, I can elaborate there too!
Please enjoy and thank you for reading any of the ones you do, I hope you like them!
HORN SKULD - Stepping into her mind is stepping into a medieval-esque garden. There are rows of shrubs and carefully tended plants, flowers always in their prime and a beautiful fountain in the middle of the garden area that beckons for one to sit. There is a calm elegance to it that is refreshing to the soul. Birds sing in the flowering trees somewhere and the temperature is neither too hot nor is it too cold, but the perfect temperature with a gentle breeze every now and again. You feel content here.
BYAKKOMARU -  It is a location that the demon himself is not entirely sure where it came from (in truth it came from forgotten memories of his life as a human). Sunlight fills a perfect spot near a crystal clear river that soon turns into a waterfall. Peering over the cliff edge reveals a hidden city below. It’s name does not come to mind, yet the heart knows the necessity to protect it. Or at least what is inside it; those that hold value to the tiger. It is a sanctuary and a safe place that he will not allow any threat to enter, because to access it you must cross the demon himself. A fierce protectiveness burns in your chest.
BASTEYA IRCLU -  Rather than a stagnant location, Basteya’s main space is that of a Great Western Railway Hall class locomotive in the passenger cars. There’s no one else on board, yet whenever one wants for something, it is there. But rarely is focus within the comfortable passenger train. The focus is outside, which often displays various places that Basteya has been and where he wishes to go again or is frequently thinking about. However, when accessing his memories, the outside of the train turns from landscapes to ‘ previews ‘ of the memories till it stops at where he wants. It makes you want to travel and explore.
CHROLLO LUCILFER - Chrollo’s shifts a bit from time to time. But often his landscape is foggy. Sometimes one will find themselves outside on a path that leads deeper into the fog. One may occasionally pass through gardens or graveyards on the way through the winding path, or even occasionally through the streets. Other times, one may find themselves standing atop towering buildings gazing at the city lights below shining through the dreary weather, idly watching. The other occasional place is a gothic cathedral with ornate stained glass windows and rows of empty pews. Outside of the fog obscures the rest of the world, and somewhere music occasionally drifts softly. The wood creaks in greeting if you sit down. Yet no matter what place you find yourself at, there’s always the sensation that there’s something you need to find, something that slips through your fingers. A vague sense that you are something else in this landscape, a wandering ghost that never quite can settle.
KALLUTO ZOLDYCK -  His shifts and changes with age and moments. Often, it is like standing atop black water. It is dark above and dark below, but you never fall nor get wet. Each step however sends ripples across an invisible surface. Sometimes there is an item or figure in the distance ; most often Kikyo or Illumi ( and later the Troupe) and sometimes there’s a cherry blossom tree nearby, petals fluttering around gently in an unfelt breeze. Climbing up the tree offers safety, and climbing to the top reveals a beautiful star riddled sky full of endless possibilities. But do not look behind you from where you appear, or the shadows might latch on and threaten to drag you down.
SUWA - The first thing that registers is how cold it is inside his mind. It is a frigid cold and there’s a sense of heaviness in the air, like a weight pressed down on one’s shoulders. A glance around reveals a person standing up to the top of their ankles in blood extending as far as the eye can see  — which isn’t far because of how dark it is. A pitch black darkness that surrounds everything, other than for a single white star high above like light seen from the bottom of the well. But no amount of reaching or walking every brings it closer. Wandering around only brings more horrors from piles of corpses to items floating on the surface of the blood like a hairpin or ruined stuffed animal rabbit. And somewhere deep inside there’s something roaring and chains straining - but nothing ever comes beyond the increasing feeling that you should not be here.
LUCIFER - Fittingly the most celestial appearance of all the mindscapes. Here one is surrounded by dazzling displays of the universe, of galaxies and nebulas. Here one is neither floating nor standing, but existing with everything wrapped around you and an ability to contort and shift the space into whatever one wishes for it to be. There is endless possibilities and no restrictions in this space. Only the freedom to do as one wills. Occasionally the space may take a specific scene if it is willed, but often it is beautifully abstract, where stardust spills through fingertips. It is an overwhelmingly inspiring and freeing spot to be. You feel invigorated.
FENRIR -  It is a snowy landscape with harsh winds that threaten to knock one over. But no matter where one turns, there is nowhere and nothing in sight, but there’s only a sense of resignation to this fact. Around the clearing are tall pine trees covered and snow, and every now and again there is the sound of his mother singing. But the cold hurts.  It  makes all the scars on the body ache, and a chain keeps coiling itself around your ankle no matter how many times you unwrap it and throw it away. If one walks far enough, they may eventually stumble upon a cave, and going inside there it is a fire to help warm your fingers, but it is fueled by hatred. It is not hard to fuel when the gods faces are carved into the wall and makes the hate twist inside your chest.
STHENO - It’s a rough, jagged cliffside where lightening flashes through the sky and it rains. Danger is never far from each step that one takes while navigating the perilous landscape, although there are a few spots of safety that one can settle down in comfortably. But even then, dangerous is not so far removed as to be forgotten. Here there’s nothing  that offers comfort, but your heart beats in rhythm with the storm. In the distance you can see water tornados reaching from the black clouds to the raging ocean. Anger bleeds into the air and you can feel it trying to wrap around you.
RUFUS LOHR - Opening your eyes here reveals a sprawling library unfolding before your eyes. It extends forever as far as you can see, consisting of multiple levels and filled to the brim with various books. From where you stand on the top layer, you can see the the floors below. Books shuffle and move here and there, pens write in blank pages by an unseen force, and sunlight filters into the warm oak rows. It’s peaceful and enchanting. If you walked away from this main platform, you think you could happily be lost among the rows and rows of books. Stars are painted onto the high ceilings to mimic the night sky and every now and then there’s a gentle recitation of a poem from an unknown speaker who’s voice is always perfect for the piece. It brings out the inner bookworm.
JACKAL - Open landscapes of the savanna lay sprawling out around everywhere, but ruins jut out from the ground here and there. In the distance smoke trails from an unseen source of destruction, and the scent carries. But it is not suffocating- rather it is an almost comfort. There is a need to move , to do something. Sometimes a figure appears, encourage mischief or chaos, the hunt. After a long day, the warm sun and sound of grass blowing is rather relaxing.
LING WEN - It is a small house, nothing elaborate or extravagant. And yet, it is clearly loved. There are poems written on napkins and small sheets of papers, stories in the works with half-filled journals, and books with pages well worn. High quality inks and papers lay waiting next to a fire that chases away the cold. Outside, winter blizzards blow and howl angrily, refusing to let anyone dare to come close to the lone house. But none of those harsh winds or heavy snows threaten the sanctity of the home. It is calm and quiet other than the crackling of the fire in the fireplace. At will, music may start but otherwise, it remains calm and undisturbed. It is cozy, a place full of passion that remains hidden from the rest of the world. After all, the weight of work demands priority. Yet this dust-free abode of the place indicates a still thriving passion in this harsh existence.
HE XUAN -  Most often, it is unsurprising to find themselves underwater within his mind. Yet there is no struggle to breath, no panic. Nothing but a sense of steady calm and the gentle sound of the waves above and fish of thoughts swimming around. At times, one may sit on the sandy shores and simply observe the dark skies- but if they’re clouds or the night sky is hard to tell. At least until feelings of pain or anger surge forth and the waves crash against you over and over again, dragging you into turbulent waters while thunder echoes in your ears. Down to the dark parts of the ocean, no matter how you fight the shadows tug and age old wounds bleed. But, sometimes it is you who flees into the shadows that hold you close and mute the noise of the world away. The ocean does not like to give up what it holds. Not even you.
THOTH - When one opens their eyes, they will find themselves staring down into a bright blue pond in a verdant oasis in the middle of the desert. Yet it is not the sun in the sky but a bright and full moon that is closer than it is in real life. It bathes everything in a soft, silver light and you can’t help but to sit down and enjoy the moment. Ibis stand at the edges of the water but they neither bother nor are bothered by your presence. A small temple stands a short distance away, visibly full of books and scrolls and the soft glow of lanterns. If you go there, you will find answers. But for now you just enjoy the moment.
SEKHMET -  It is a dangerous feat to try to enter into her mind. Depending on what part of her is in control, the landscape can drastically differ. When she is slaughtering for Ra or the pharaohs, rivers of blood pour through the desert valleys. The skies bleed red and orange and vultures circle high above the battlefield. It smells of death and slaughter, and war drums pound somewhere in the distance, urging to continue the bloody feast and to devour meat and wine. Sometimes one is standing in the sand, other times one stands at the city walls, ready for the slaughter. Other times, the scenery is drastically different. Lighting fills the temples, and songs fill the air before a table of meats and red alcohols. Sometimes people appear to tell and act out stories before her. Another section of the temple is full of medical herbs and a calming atmosphere few often attribute to the goddess. There are also many sealed boxes. Instinctively, you know you should not touch them.
NAGARE HISUI -  His space resembles that out of the sci-fi genre. Screens full of information and data points, games, lists to do. Many of the screens are green or blue, and all appear before a gigantic tree that resembles that of the JUNGLE clan’s symbol. The tree is taller than you can see the top of, and one feels like a baby ant next to it. But  luckily it is distant so as to not be too overwhelming. Turning around however reveals the small room of the JUNGLE headquarters main area that is the same here as it is in life. Often those close to him are present, offering him insight. On very rare occasions however, this scenery may be traded for sitting atop the rooftop of Mihashira Tower at night, while all the city below is alive  and vibrant with colors and nightlife. It summons a feeling of change and optimism for the future - a desire for change.
YUKARI MISHAKUJI -  For the fascination of the beauty angel in vivid beauty, his mind is quite calm. Often the place most commonly depicted is a stone bench in a japanese garden in blossom. A mini-waterfall trickles softly over the rocks, and vibrant colored koi fish swim in the water with elegant grace. A tea set sits at a table, ready to be poured, and a set of calligraphy brushes and fresh paper sit in an elegant gold and black box to the side.  Often the sounds of guqin and/or flute music fill the air alongside the sound of birds. Sometimes there are guests, sometimes it is just him. It’s a peaceful, beautiful space with the skies painted pink and purples with the setting suns and the stars just starting to shine. On a rare occasion, this may be traded for relaxing on a boat drifting through a river of memories under a starry sky. It is always so beautiful and it hurts to look away.
AARAVOS - Rather surprisingly, his mindscape is not somewhere new or historic or fantastical or abstract. It’s almost an exact replica of his prison within the mirror. He does not mind it. Here there are books and places to wander, there is chess and a fireplace and comfort to relax in. The only difference is an apple tree in one corner of the room, towering and full of gold-colored apples he occasionally plucks.  He doesn’t need to escape or alter anything from reality or his mind. Yet even should he one day escape from his current prison, his mind will likely still choose to host the scenery of that familiar space. It is more of a home than any other place he has lingered.

It's Monday, which means another prompt from Animal Alphabets and this week J is for "Journal", so I sketched a quick Jackal Journaling.
What would be a great journal entry from a jackal?

Extremely belated October 3rd thought:
What if they had a witness? Just some pedestrian, a shopkeeper, maybe a neighbor. Minding their own business when suddenly,
CRASH!
Some aristo in a black suit throws himself out of that big old house’s window. He pauses in the yard to shake his fist at the place.
"You think to baffle me, you—with your pale faces all in a row, like sheep in a butcher's. You shall be sorry yet, each one of you! You think you have left me without a place to rest; but I have more. My revenge is just begun! I spread it over centuries, and time is on my side. Your girls that you all love are mine already; and through them you and others shall yet be mine—my creatures, to do my bidding and to be my jackals when I want to feed—"
He seems to have a good monologue going until some guy with white hair, a face full of murder, and a giant knife in his teeth comes scuttling out of the window like the world’s biggest and most pissed off spider.
“Bah!” says Goth Aristo before sprinting away, locking the gate, and…turning into mist? Is that a bat in there?? What???
White-haired Knife Man is forlorn at not getting to do any stabbing and goes sadly back to his friends who have also come out of the building, likewise armed and covered in garlic flowers and crosses. There, there buddy, we’ll skin him next time :)
The witness decides they’re not touching any of that, thanks.
But the newspaper is right there...
Fast-forward to the future, post-novel, and our heroes finally have time to catch up on the latest news—
PARANORMAL PERIL IN PICCADILLY!
WITNESS REPORTS THE HARROWING BATTLE OF A BAT-MAN AND SPIDER-GHOUL IN OUR VERY STREETS!
(In true Clark Kent fashion, Jonathan the White-haired Prettyboy is never singled out. He is a different man in Murder Mode, and the default sweetheart solicitor couldn’t speak harshly to a plant let alone attempt to slaughter a vampire in the street, ha ha)
((Mina still keeps one copy pasted in her journal and another framed on the mantel.))

The Retconning of Aunt May's death from Amazing Spider-Man #400... aka, screw John Byrne!
Wanna know something else we can criticize John Byrne for aside from his general creepiness and bigotry? He undid Aunt May’s death in the beautifully written Amazing Spider-Man (1963) #400, "The Gift," aka one of the best stories to come out of the entire infamous Clone Saga era.
Tumblr media
Like... when Linkara reviewed the Web of Death storyline, one particular complaint he brought up was how all of the all the beautiful & emotional moments between Peter Parker and comatose Aunt May were severely undermined in hindsight due to the later retcon that this wasn't actually May Parker, but instead an highly-skilled actress whom Norman Osborn replaced Aunt May with after her stroke and made resemble Peter's aunt through cloning technology.
youtube
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And the person who was responsible for this controversial retcon? None other than John Byrne!
Byrne apparently refused to even initiate his divisive 1999 Chapter One and The Next Chapter reboots of the Spider-Man titles unless he was allowed to utilize Aunt May as a member of Peter's supporting cast. Consequently, this meant completely retconning Aunt May's lovely and tragic send-off by J.M. DeMatteis & Mark Bagley in ASM #400, even though that issue was highly regarded and celebrated by even the most hardened detractors of The Clone Saga era as a whole.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And you know what made the retconning of Aunt May's death even more stupid? It directly contradicted Norman Osborn's own recounting of The Clone Saga from his perspective in The Osborn Journal one-shot after he was revealed to be the true mastermind behind the whole saga. Writer & editor Glenn Greenberg specifically made sure to include these passages from Norman's private journals:
-"And as luck would have it, the clone -- Reilly -- learned of May Parker's stroke and returned to New York to be near her during her final days. This saved me the trouble of concocting some elaborate scheme to lure him back to the city."
-"Then the old woman finally died, delivering a major emotional blow to Parker and his wife. My only regret is that I was NOT the cause."
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yup, Greenberg wanted to make sure that DeMatteis' brilliant work from ASM #400 wouldn't be undone by having Norman himself state in his private journals that May's death was strictly due to natural causes instead of another part of his behind-the-scene's manipulations. Which makes sense considering that the entire issue was dedicated to Peter & Aunt May's final days together as she revealed to her nephew that she had always known he was Spider-Man and was deeply proud of him before passing away in her bed right besides Peter, Mary Jane & Aunt Anna, with Peter's final words to his surrogate mother-figure being him quoting his favorite childhood novel Peter Pan to her, telling Aunt May:
"Let go. Fly. 'Second to the right... and straight on until morning.'"
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Its honestly one of the most simultaneously heartbreaking & beautiful scenes that I've personally ever read in a comic. The silent panels of Ben Reilly crying to himself on the roof of the house, unable to be by his Aunt's side during her final moments since he's only a clone of her nephew, especially tug at my heartstrings (poor Benjy)! And its an issue that resonates with me even more deeply today than back when I initially read it a few years ago, since I now know what it feels like to lose a dearly beloved relative, with both my paternal grandmother (Nana) and maternal grandfather (Paps) having since passed away.
But then John Byrne decided in his infinite wisdom to screw it all up, ignoring all of that emotional weight and feelings of down-to-Earth loss by not only revealing that the Aunt May Peter watched die was actually just a random actress whom Norman Osborn "genetically modified via the Jackal’s cloning technology" (which again… makes ZERO sense), but that Osborn apparently now lied in his own personal diaries or something?
Tumblr media
So yeah, the resurrection of Aunt May by John Byrne during the Spider-Man: The Gathering of Five/The Final Chapter arcs is easily one of the most insulting retcons that I've ever encountered since it spits in the face of one of the most beautifully written single-issues that I've personally ever read (both because of how it personally resonates with me as someone who's lost two grandparents, and because is J.M. DeMatteis is among my Top 5 favorite comic book writers).
But trust me, this is the LEAST of John Byrne's problems, which fellow comic creator Ramon Villalobos made an excellent thread discussing in detail if you want further information:

♧ once added >///< to one of his tweets on his private twitter. kageyama screenshotted it and sent it to the karasuno boy's volleyball gc. they will never let him live it down.
♧ smells really warm, like cinnamon. sometimes cinnamon apples. it's funny because he doesn't even like those. he doesn't hate them, but he doesn't like it either. he simply enjoys their scent.
♧ is so so bad at taking care of plants. he first got the idea of getting some plants after seeing them on tiktok all arranged in a lovely way, brightening up even the most dull rooms and hinata being himself bought a whole load of plants that caught his eye only for them to die one by one. he did everything he could, fertilizer, more water, less water, different types of soil, more sun, less sun, different genres of music - he even sang to one of them - only for them to wilt regardless.
♧ definitely sings while bathing. you cannot convince me otherwise. he does.
♧ likes lollipops. he's very aware that it's horrible for his diet, it's really just sugar and unhealthiness on a stick, but he can't help it. his favorite are cola flavored lollipops, followed by really milky strawberry or chocolate ones.
♧ summer is his favorite time of the year. he likes wearing sleeveless shirts, not only because they show off his arms, but also because it exposes more of his skin to the sun and he's fond of how sunshine feels on him. plus, there's also an increase in the number of people playing beach volleyball.
♧ i'm sorry, but he 100% has unironically had a live, laugh, love frame hanging in his room at some point during his high school days. one time, he let the karasuno volleyball team into his room and they quickly spotted it. tsukishima, kageyama, nishinoya, and tanaka were quick to tease him about it, and sugawara and daichi were quick to shut it down. hinata couldn't be happier about their presence at that very moment. still very embarrassed though, especially when he reunites with tobio in japan and he asks him about it -- whether he still has it or not.
♧ has a habit of trying different flavors of ramune and he always keeps the bottles. he thinks it's all too cute to get rid of.
♧ holds on to things when he sleeps, whether that's a loose grip on his pillow, a stuffed toy, a blanket, his significant other, hell, even his clothing. he just finds it impossible not to do it in his unconscious state.
♧ wants to join tv shows like american ninja warrior -- after all, he is ninja shoyo.
♧ tried to keep a dream journal and update it regularly, but at some point, he just forgot to use it.
♧ the pride and joy of msby black jackals whenever they go to a bar to celebrate a win and it's open mic night. he gets lost in the song he's singing but still manages to put on a performing of a lifetime, drunk and all.
♧ sketches random shit a lot. like his notebooks back in high school and middle school were literally just sketchbooks. no notes from class, only random doodles of random things.
♧ likes buying those scented colored gel pens, but he always forgets to use them.
♧ doesn't wake up at five o'clock in the morning to go jogging because he needs to exercise for his job. he wakes up at five o'clock in the morning to go jogging because he enjoys it.

How about some fun little facts on Cain?
he used to keep journals of all the important things he's felt/experienced so he wouldn't forget them, since his memory is only as good as a mortal's, yet his body continues to live well past that. he lost the journals but doesn't know what happened to them or remember even keeping them...
he's a very good artist. he likes to doodle wildlife especially but has probably also drawn judas countless times but will never show him.
he sneezes when he has...certain thoughts. it's canon now 💀
he has deuteranomaly colorblindness (green weak)
he really doesn't like magic or occult things, since he strives to live a very low-key, relatively normal, comfortably boring life lol. despite the fact that his wife is a very powerful witch. he respects it though.
he's a very loving person. he feels deeply and has great affection for the people he cares about, but just sucks at expressing it because he's never had anyone teach him that it's fine to be vulnerable
he's not really touch averse, and he's more sensory hyposensitive than anything. he's just awkward about touch from people because, again.. he just doesn't know how to handle it from a social aspect, especially with judas who is very intense. he likes to let eve lay on him though for that good sensory feedback 👌
kinda a cain fact...hellhound infodump. hounds/jackals aren't from heaven or hell; they're completely neutral entities with associations of both life and death, used by both sides. they have human-like intelligence, although they can't speak since they're meant to remain neutral. they don't always take the form of canids, but usually do just to blend into society better. their appearances vary wildly, but the large, white eyes are a constant. they're always mentally bound to a specific person and exhibit the emotions and loyalties of their master. they can also be used as vessels for guardian angels.

Maier’s book offers a new solution to this enigma. In his view, all the classical categories used to describe the twentieth-century state miss its central feature: its orientation around the notion of a project, which could weld business interests, the general population, and state bureaucrats under a single, long-term time horizon. What united Roosevelt’s America, Stalin’s Russia, Attlee’s Britain, Hitler’s Germany, Mao’s China, and Nkrumah’s Ghana, then, was not a diffuse totalitarianism or developmental ideology. Rather, it was their status as project states, which all “had a transformative agenda . . . based on authoritarian and even totalitarian as well as liberal and democratic coalitions seeking to reform sclerotic institutions or societies that seemed unacceptably unequal.” Project states thereby tended to “see society as a plasmic whole, sometimes in terms of elites and masses, knowable and controllable through statistical science, biological and legal interventions.” The specimen did not come without ancestors, of course—in Maier’s view, Napoleonic France and the wartime organization of the U.S. federal government in 1861 already exhibited embryonic signs of a later project state—yet “as a continuing and nonexceptional form of polity,” the new creature only “came into its own in the twentieth century.” Maier’s category thereby demarcates and unifies. The notion of a “project state” allows us to understand what Mao, Hitler, De Gaulle, Attlee, and Nkrumah had in common. Yet it also clearly separates the twentieth-century state from its pre-1914 antecedents. Although Maier’s state never fully abolished capital, it did have a productively agonistic relationship with it: it was able to both discipline and repel those that controlled investment and to direct or claim those resources for itself. It was a state made for and by warfare, yet not exclusively so. To the disgust of neoliberals and New Leftists, it had an eternally uneasy relationship with the public-private divide, both on the social and on the economic front, encouraging higher birth rates while compiling calorific tables. Above all, it was pitted against the nineteenth-century nightwatchman state, both as a reality and as a metaphor; public authority was to turn itself from a mere facilitator of economic commerce into an active choreographer of social movements. As Maier notes, the hustle and bustle of the traffic jam was replaced by the “ordered direction of the Riefenstahlian march”; under its baldaquin, masses would gather for coordination and instruction, in a rage for order that ran across the whole interwar period. Maier’s concept does not rule out internal differentiation, of course: “creating the fascist man who would live as a lion and not as a jackal was a different project than raising out of poverty ‘one third of a nation ill-housed, ill-clad, ill-nourished,’” and Stalin was surprised to see Churchill switch office with Attlee when negotiating the postwar order. Still, all its forms took an energetic, even invasive interest in the populations that fell under their control: the project state built the National Health Service, transported prisoners to Kolyma, incinerated Dresden and Nagasaki, birthed cybernetics and nuclear power, reduced infant mortality, and cartelized the coal industries. Here was an entity “addicted to transformative agendas,” with a lifespan as short as it was eventful: born somewhere between 1914 and 1929, gone between 1973 and 1991. By the close of the 1980s, Maier admits, the project state had given up on its project and was no longer capable of controlling the forces of private capital. It slowly gave up the role of sculpting society, instead leaving the field open to self-experimentation and the emerging entrepreneurs of the self. In the historian’s view, its “audacity repelled many at the time and certainly social historians in the century since, but the ambitions constituted a major historical force and deserve empathetic understanding.”

And now for the huge 1988 retcon from Spectacular Spider-Man Annual #8 that itself got retconned just a few years later in the clone saga of the 90s.
See, at the end of the original clone saga in 1975, the Gwen Stacy clone is allowed to walk off never to be seen again. The idea was just to placate angry readers by bringing her back but also keeping her dead.
Tumblr media
That didn't sit well with everybody so in 1988's nonsensical crossover "The Evolutionary War" it's revealed that the clone Gwen was never a clone, but actually another woman who was modified with a genetic virus to turn her into Gwen. Why would they do this? How does this fix anything? What does this mean about Carrion, the clone of Miles Warren, or the thought dead Peter clone? No answers to be found!
"This woman is not and NEVER WAS, Gwen Stacy's clone."
That's all that mattered at the time. Then one of the "Young Gods" (don't ask) uses her powers to restore her memories and appearance. She walks off also never to be seen again. Pete doesn't even know her name!
Tumblr media
Who would write this mess of a retcon? Who would change the ending of the classic if screwy original clone saga? Gerry Conway himself! He wrote the original and seemingly always regretted the ending.
A year later we get some more answers in Spectacular Spider-Man #149. Pete finds The Jackal's journal that reveals the mystery blonde's name was "Joyce Delaney"
Tumblr media
It also reveals that Carrion and the Spider-Clone were created with Warren's "replicator virus". As The High Evolutionary said in the annual this is supposedly more believable than Warren inventing fast cloning. *shrug*
So then the Clone Saga happens. It quickly reveals that uh obviously the replicator virus explanation is a lie because there are clones. So goddamn many clones. If that's true then we need to find Joyce Delaney and explain what she really is.
Tumblr media
Pete (dressed as Scarlet Spider but trust me it's Pete) finds out that Joyce really is the Gwen clone and she's been living with "Warren Miles" in New Jersey for years. By the end of the issue Warren is dead and "Gwen Stacy Miles" walks off never to be seen again. They even do quick story where High Evolutionary apologizes to Ben Reilly for lying to him you can see why that's a mess.
You've started to notice the pattern right? Well at the start of the Spider-Island 2011 event we catch up to the Gwen Clone in London and she's MURDERED!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Murdered by who? ABBY-L the heretofore never seen first Gwen clone that came out hideous and evil!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
She dies at the end of the story never to be seen again. We'll see how long that lasts.

Thanks for hanging out with me in the stream tonight, @the-explorers-journal @neuropterida @ciabatta27 ! It was a blast chatting and working. As suggested, I am going to try to YouTube live stream more often because that is the more common streaming platform now. Plus, streama are archived so that viewers can still join in after the fact and see what happened last time.
I'll definitely have to utilize OBS more for that, but that is something I'll learn along the way.
A question for you all:
